2017 Reader Survey

Good morning, I hope this weekend is treating you well so far. I woke up this morning to a light dusting of snow. It’s so pretty.

Today, I want to share my 2017 Reader Survey. Yep, I’m slipping this in right under the wire!

2016 reader survey

While this is a personal blog, I also want to be a resource for you. Without you, I could not be doing this as a job, so I want very much to hear what you think I’m doing well, what I can do better, and what you’d like to see from me going into the new year.

UPDATE: It appears that some are having trouble doing the survey on mobile devices. To make it as fast and easy and non-frustrating as possible, it is probably best to take it on a computer or laptop. I apologize for any inconvenience. xo

All questions in the survey are optional, so that allows you to skip over those that don’t necessarily resonate with you, although I’d very much appreciate your thoughtful response to each one that applies. That said, this is not a place to vent. If you don’t like the direction I’ve taken the blog or you think I’m a sell-out or have other negative and unhelpful thoughts, I ask that you don’t share those. I have a pretty thick skin and I know how to take unkind comments with a grain of salt, but I’m not interested in providing a place to vent anonymously. However, if you have advice or constructive criticism, I’m glad to hear it. Most questions are multiple choice or checkboxes to keep it as simple as possible, but there are a few spots where you can write out your thoughts and opinions, and I do encourage you to use those opportunities to let me know how I can be a better resource for you.

To encourage participation and in appreciation of your time and thoughtfulness, I’m giving away a $100 Nordstrom Gift Card to one random survey participant. It’s simple to enter. When you finish the survey, you will see the option to enter your email address. I will select a random winner on Monday, January 8th, 2018, and the winner will be contacted via email and announced on the Survey Results post. I like to share the results of my surveys and address any questions or concerns that come up, so you can look for that post towards the end of next week!

CLICK THIS LINK to take the survey.

I truly cannot thank you enough for taking the time to participate. I hope it helps me better serve you going forward. Of course, you can always email me at any time with questions or thoughts or constructive advice.

Thank you for being here!

  1. Jolynne- I just did your survey and wanted to comment my appreciation and respect for your blog which I look forward to daily.  Quick question – I know you’ve recommended the perfect pair of jeans before.  I am a short waisted straight and looking for a classic pair of high waisted (or mid) skinny jeans.  Darker wash.  Not too skinny .  I am generally a size 27 or 28 in jeans.  What would you recommend?  Do you have a few options and a few price points?

    1. Hey Shari. Thank you! it is hard to find a higher rise. My favorites are the AG Farrah. https://rstyle.me/n/cv8fhkgthw

You could also try DL1961 Florence. https://rstyle.me/n/cv8fhtgthw

Pay attention to inseam length and leg opening. They vary some within each of these styles.

I like a 10″ leg opening, but you may prefer 11″ for a straighter look. AG The Stilt has 11″ or 12″ leg opening – https://rstyle.me/n/cv8fi9gthw

Paige Skyline skinny is another one to look at – with a slightly wider leg opening and a mid to high rise – https://rstyle.me/n/cv8fkigthw

For lower priced jeans, check Wit & Wisdom and Articles of Society. Nordstrom carries those. Again, compare those measurements. It’s a lot of trial and error to find the right jeans, but once you know the rise and inseam and leg opening measurements you like best, it gets a lot easier! 🙂 I have some readers who also like Ann Taylor and White House Black Market for jeans. Some don’t offer those measurements online tho.

Good luck! Let me know what you find!

    2. I prefer a mid-rise jean that is at least 8 3/4”. My faves are AG Prima (found via this blog; they run a size big), Joe’s, 7 for all Mankind b(air), Hudson, and Paige. I just search on Nordstrom’s site for mid and high rise and then I look in the specs. I end up ordering several pairs online and try them on at home. The stores just don’t carry a big selection. I return what I don’t like or what doesn’t fit.

  2. Every time I click on the survey (from my iPhone) it sends me further down in the survey and I have to scroll back up. Don’t know if there is branching set up in your survey that is causing that. Your response rate might be impacted. I’ll try again later.

    1. Oh, no, weird. I didn’t try looking at it on a mobile device. I think it’s supposed to save your answers… is it redirecting you to where you left off? (I never had any of these issues in years past; I always use Google Docs for these.)

      1. Hi Jo-Lynne, It seems to send me to the “I’d like to know more about where you shop” question. Then each question takes me further notice down from that question and I have to keep scrolling up.

        1. Okay, I just went in and tried it. If you were taking the one embedded in my post, I think my blog is messing it up. If you click the link and go to google docs, it should work fine. At least, it did for me. (Crossing my fingers!) I deleted the embedded one from my blog so no one else gets frustrated with it. SO SORRY ABOUT THAT! 🙂 🙂

      1. I’m sorry for that inconvenience. I hear that it may be due to not having Google docs app on the phone? I had no idea… I will update my post and recommend people use the computer. Thanks for the feedback, and I appreciate your perseverance! 🙂

  3. I enjoy your humor and style !thanks for helping me get one ????I would’ve never started shopping at Nordstrom without you !

  4. It’s be a pleasure following you!  No need to read other blogs, everything I need and enjoy is right here.  Looking forward to the coming year as you tweak but seriously, no need to fix what isn’t broken!

God bless you and your family!

  5. I love following you, and have received so much outfit inspiration! You have changed the way I shop and put outfits together….thanks for all of your hard work!

  6. I enjoy your sense of style and the fact that you show that we can use items from multiple price points to come up with a smashing outfit.
Thanks so much and Happy New Year to you and your family.

  7. Hi Jo Lynne,
Just finished your survey and I hope it was received. I did not see anything that confirmed it was received. Thanks for all of your hard work and making my life easier. You rock. Have a great New Year.

  8. Thank you for all the hard work and dedication you put into your blog to the benefit of all us readers. Love your style!

  9. Love you and your work! Thank you for all you do!
I took the survey on a tablet and also was directed to the comment section after each answer- also not sure my survey went through as some other people have indicated .

    1. If you were taking the one embedded in my post, I think it is my blog messing it up. I just went and tried it and I see what you mean. If you click the link and go to google docs, it should work fine. At least, it did for me. I deleted the embedded one from my blog so no one else gets frustrated with it. SO SORRY ABOUT THAT! 🙂 🙂

  10. You do a fantastic job, and your blog is always interesting to read. There wasn’t really room on the survey to say that. After reading your blog for so long, I can hold my own when discussing fashion with my 21 year old daughter. ????

  11. Question for ya.  On some bloggers feeds I notice jean wash is of no concern.  Since I still think old school ( darker washes and nail polish), I am curious what your thoughts are in regards to those 2 topics.  Thanks for the fashions suggestions and sharing your life in general.  I truly enjoy your blog!!

    1. Hi LaVena. I’m not sure what you mean about jean wash being of no concern. I prefer different denim washes with different colors so I usually choose my denim wash intentionally.

I also like all different colors of nail polish, from dark to light to bright to bold to pastel. I never get the same color two weeks in a row. 🙂 It’s my “rule”. Ha!

I’m not sure if that answers your question or not. 🙂

      1. I enjoy different washes in jeans. I love having variety in my wardrobe. Also, I’m pale with cool coloring. Medium to light washes are very flattering to me, and go well with the light to medium colors in tops that I wear.

I do have and wear dark jeans on occasion. They tend to give a dressier look. I love that about them.
But I also like the lower-contrast look of other shades of denim.

  12. Hi Jo-Lynne, I finished your survey but I just need to add a few thoughts. I really like the direction you took this year with adding more detail and thoughts about outfits….as I said earlier this week, that has helped me immensely. I also want to know from your readers….anyone else have to remind themselves that they aren’t actually friends with you and know you in real life? LOL! In other words, your down-to-earth nature is wonderful and so relatable. Your hard work is appreciated!

    1. I agree!! I too feel like both Jo-Lynne and Cyndi are good friends of mine and when they were in dallas I was super sad I couldn’t meet up and hang out!!! ????????????.   And we totally have the same style!! ????????????

    2. Hahah! Yes Bev, I feel the same way about
Jo-Lynn & Cyndi too! In fact sometimes I say to my daughter, “my friend Jo-Lynn said…” or “my friend Cyndi said…”.  I think that’s a real testament to both these beautiful ladies that they’re keeping it real and relational with their readers!

    3. I feel the same way about this blog, Bev. I feel as if my friend Jo-Lynne sends me a personal email every morning! So, thank you not only for improving my clothing choices, Jo-Lynne, but for sharing your life with us.

  13. Hello!  I did the survey but didn’t see anything about entering my email?  It kept jumping to the bottom of the page.  I’d like to enter into the drawing.

  14. Just completed the survey and submitted it……fingers crossed for that Nordstrom GC!! ????

Cheers ???? and Happy New Year to you and your family!

PS- I just bought a pair of white loafers! They’re soooo cute but I need some styling ideas! The salesgirl said they look good with ankle jeans and “boyfriend” jeans and even skirts. I’d love ???? to see how you would style them.

      1. The brand is “Me Too” – Audra Loafer Flat – $89.95 in cream white @ Nordstrom.
They are really comfortable & apparently selling quite well according to the salesman who helped me. ????

  15. Hi Jo Lynne,
Just wanted to know how to find the link to google docs? I just can’t seem to find it.

    Thanks,
    Nancy

    1. Nancy-
She has it as a “hot link” embedded in her narrative text. It says: “click this link to begin survey” and the “click this link” is underlined. You need to have the Google Docs app on your mobile device for it to open up. Otherwise you can open it on your computer without having a Google account.

      Hope this helps! ????

  16. I just finished attempting to fill out the survey.  I was at the step where you submit your email address to enter the giveaway, when I noticed that on the bottom of the survey form on the left side, it said “Never submit email addresses through Google documents.”  Is this correct?  I didn’t finish the survey, as I wanted to ask about this.
    Love your blog!
    Happy New Year!!

    1. Hey Judy, I don’t know about that message about the email. It’s the only way I know to contact a winner, but if you’re not comfortable, you can just leave a first and last name and I’ll announce on the Survey Results. 🙂

  17. This was a really fun survey! (Yes, I know I am weird lol)
I love your blog and supporting it any way I can makes me feel like I am supporting an actual friend…

  18. I enjoyed doing the survey, I actually cannot find anything wrong with your blog post , I really like the way you style the clothes and explain about them , I like the different price points also . I have been so enjoying your Facebook live talks too .
Thanks for all of your hard work !!!
    Have a great evening!!!
    Diana

  19. Done! I know I said it yesterday but I love your blog. You style clothes that suit my lifestyle and our tastes are very similar. I love your honesty about what works and your sense of humour. I know you put a lot of time and effort into each and every post and it shows. Thank you!

  20. Hello,
Now the google doc survey says never submit passwords.  So when it said email, I am guessing that was an error.  So that is good!  I will fill the survey out now.
I like your blog a lot. You and I have the same coloring so it’s fun to see what colors you wear.  Also, I like that you feature higher end items from time to time with the advice to wait for a sale.  This is what I do as well.
I see that you did not publish my comment asking about the google doc saying never submit emails through google doc.  That is fine, and better.  It would probably be better not to publish this one as well.
Thanks so much, and have a happy and blessed New Year.

  21. Survey accomplished – thanks for the thought of chocolates!!

I like many others think of you as a friend – a good one, and so appreciate you helping me with fashion do’s and suggesting don’ts. I don’t think we can have enough good, kind and honest girlfriends.

Thank you so much for being you.

  22. When is the cut off to complete the survey?  I was having issues on my phone every time and I can’t get to my computer until tomorrow night.
