Try-On Haul + 4th of July Sales

Happy Saturday, friends, and happy Independence Day to my friends here in the USA!

This weekend probably looks different to many of us, but hopefully we can all do something festive today. We’re having some friends and family over for a cookout and pool party later on, and I’m looking forward to that.

Today I’ve got a small try-on haul for you, plus I rounded up a bunch of things I’ve worn that are on sale this weekend.

Try-On Haul: CALIA by Carrie Underwood, Amazon Fashion, Everlane, Anthro & Dr. Scholl’s

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and 135 pounds-ish, with a slight hourglass shape. Unless I say otherwise, I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe.

Everlane The Pima Micro Rib Funnel-Neck Tank

Pardon the 3-day hair and no makeup, and thank goodness for the skin smoothing tool in Lightroom! #keepingitreal

I don’t have good up-close pix of this top because I was really trying to figure out an outfit to wear for my birthday dinner out with friends last night.

It ended up being too hot for pants, so I had to bag it, but I thought the all-black look was fun for a change. I sometimes forget about an all-black outfit in the summer, but I thought this top lended itself well to the idea.

I always take a rear view shot when trying out something new, but for some reason, my rear view shots are always a bit blurry. I think it’s b/c I’m using the front-facing camera, and the quality just isn’t as good.

I can get the general idea, though, and I like how the top emphasizes my waist, and the crop flares help offset my wide hips.

Here’s the best shot I have of the top… it’s the same material as the pima micro rib cap sleeve tee I have and love.

I think the mockneck/sleeveless combo is super chic. It’s cut nicely around the armholes, not too deep or set in too far. It has a body con fit, so I sized up to the medium.

If I’d worn this to dinner, I would have worn a statement earring, maybe these in the silver.

And isn’t my Victoria Emerson Manarola boho cuff perfect with this?

I also love and adore these sandals!!! They’re comfortable too. Hopefully I’ll get to wear this outfit at some point.

VERDICT: Keeping

also wearing: Mother The Insider Crop Jeans and Ann Taylor Ilaria Suede Sandals

CALIA by Carrie Underwood Women’s Crossed Back Tank Top

Okay, we’re taking it down a few notches with this one.

Someone tipped me off to this workout wear line by Carrie Underwood, and I ordered a few things. I love this tank.

For one thing, the color is gorgeous, but it’s also soft and stretchy with a nice fit that’s not too relaxed or too body-con.

And the back is super cute, with the criss cross straps. I just don’t like how long the top is; it looks sloppy to me. But it might be worth having hemmed.

I actually wore this exact outfit a few nights ago to hang out by the lake with friends at a nearby state park. I was cool and comfortable, and I felt like I still looked pulled together and stylish… not that anyone cared.

It was a very casual get-together with friends who have seen me at my worst on plenty of occasions, and I could have easily worn my usual jean shorts and a tank, but I thought it might be fun to wear a skort for a change.

VERDICT: Keeping!

also wearing: Cole Haan Anica sandals (TTS; 40% off) and Athleta Soho Skort (not on sale, BUT Athleta is doing a Spend More, Save More sale, and you can take $25 off a $150+ order, or $50 off a $250+ order! See more of my Athleta favorites.)

CALIA by Carrie Underwood Women’s Anywhere Woven Skirt

I ordered this woven skirt, thinking it was a skort, but it turned out to be a skirt. I still like it a lot, though.

The best thing about it is the length. Most skorts are much shorter. I also like how it has pockets, and it’s a little longer in the back.

The woven material is very lightweight and feels like it would dry easily if it got wet.

The only reason I didn’t wear it to the lake was because I wanted the comfort of the shorts, and I couldn’t find my Jockey slipshorts. I guess I need to order a new pair.

This skirt also comes in black, and it runs true to size; I have the small. And good news! Dick’s offers free shipping and free returns on CALIA products.

Here’s a few more shots, this time with the Everlane The Air Cami.

I was trying to see if I would like this skirt better if I tucked in my top all the way around. I just think it looks weird to do the front tuck with the elastic waist skirt.

I’ve never cared much for the full tuck on me because I have a very high waist and low hips, if that makes any sense.

Usually tucking in a top gives me the dreaded “long butt” — LOL! But this combination seems to work somehow.

I think it helps that I can set the skirt where I want it — not right up high on my actual waist, but not too low, the way most are meant to fit.

I think I like it! This would certainly open up a lot more skirt options for me in the future. I usually steer clear because I don’t like most tops with them.

VERDICT: Keeping!

also wearing: Everlane The Air Cami and Cole Haan Anica sandals

Daily Ritual Women’s Cozy Knit Dolman-Sleeve Boat-Neck Dress

I’m really impressed with this casual t-shirt dress. It’s actually a bit heavier than a typical t-shirt dress, and very soft with a brushed surface and just enough stretch.

It also has some nice shaping through the waist, so it isn’t as boxy as some. Here’s a back view.

The boat neck and dolman sleeves elevate it above a classic t-shirt design, and the shirttail hem is another nice touch.

I love this heather grey for summertime, but it also comes in black marl and a solid black as well. It runs true to size; I have the small.

VERDICT: Keeping!

Paige Rayvn Dress

I thought this dress looked cute on the Shopbop website, but I was underwhelmed when it came in the mail.

I struggle with these tie waist dresses because the tie is usually placed a couple inches below my natural waist, where I’m not as small, so it makes my “waist” look bigger than it is. But if I remove the tie from the loops and place it where my actual waist is, it looks silly because it’s sitting right under my chest.

I also don’t like how far in it’s cut around the arms. This seems to be a trend these days with these ruffle sleeves, and I am not a fan. You have to be very thin and have no flab in that area to make this style look good.

I do like the slit on the side, and the material is very good quality (it’s the Paige brand, as in the jeans) but overall, it’s just not for me.

VERDICT: returning

Dr. Scholl’s Original Collection Sandals

I was instantly drawn to these throwback sandals when I saw them online. I really wanted them to wear with my Paige Cindy chewed hem straight ankle jeans, but they’re cute with dresses and shorts too.

They’re more comfortable than you’d think, and they do adjust if you want to make them bigger or smaller.

They fit true to size, and they only come in whole sizes. You can also find them at Nordstrom, but they’re on sale right now at DSW. (Use code VAYDAYS20 at checkout for 20% off!)

VERDICT: Returning. I like the styling a lot, but I wore them around the house on the carpet for a bit, and they seemed to aggravate the tendon behind my right ankle bone that often gives me fits with certain shoes. #finickyfeet

Mariela Cut-Out Tee By T.La

Anthropologie ran a sale on graphic tees a while back, and I ordered a few. For some reason, this was included, even though I don’t really consider it a graphic tee.

This tee actually comes in a ton of solid colors and prints, so if camo isn’t your thing, there are a lot of other options to choose from.

Anyway, the material is substantial yet soft, and it’s definitely on the boxy side. I really like the cut-out detail on the neck, although it’s hard to see in these pictures.

It also has a double raw edge on the hem and sleeves, which is a nice touch.

Here’s a back view — there’s nothing exceptional about the back, but I think it’s nice to see things from all angles.

The length of this top is 24.5″, and it runs true to size. I have the small.

VERDICT: Keeping.

Also wearing: J.Crew denim shorts in white and Dr. Scholl’s sandals

Carmen Saguer Sunshine Graphic Tee

I like this one a lot better online than I did in person. It has a weird fit.

It doesn’t sit quite right on the shoulders, and it’s boxy and short, but with a shirttail hem, so the sides are really too short for my comfort level.

Here’s a back view — you can see how the neckline is sitting up high. It’s odd.

The graphic is more visible in person than in these pictures. I was using a ring light because it was a dark, cloudy day, but it’s making everything look overly bright.

Anyway, it’s cute in theory, but it’s not really made for me.

VERDICT: Returning.

also wearing: Gap 3″ shorts and Marc Fisher Fianna sandals

Sunset Graphic Tee

I think the design on this one is so fun, but the slub fabric feels a little rough against the skin, and it’s quite see-through.

I was wearing a black bra, and you can definitely see it through the shirt, as well as the tag, lol.

It also just barely fits. I would probably want to size up to a medium, if I were to keep it.

It’s cute, but I don’t know that I really need it. Plus, I would need to order the next size up, and it’s no longer on sale. So….

VERDICT: Returning.

also wearing: Kut from the Kloth Catheriene boyfriend shorts and Caslon Oskar flat slide sandals

Madewell Whisper Cotton V-Neck Pocket Tank in Fieldgate Stripe

This tank was reduced to $5 and pretty much sold out, but there are a couple left, so I’ll share it anyway.

I think the color palette is so fun for summer, and I don’t have anything like this in my closet. I’ve actually worn it a few times already.

It has the same fit as my solid black Madewell whisper cotton v-neck pocket tank, that I shared in last week’s Try-On Haul. It’s TTS; I have the small.

VERDICT: Keeping!

also wearing: Gap 3″ shorts and Marc Fisher Fianna sandals

Things I’ve Worn On Sale

There are SO many sales this weekend… pretty much every store is having one! So I thought rather than provide a list (which I do each weekend in my email newsletter — SIGN UP HERE!), I would round up some of the more popular items I’ve worn that are on sale right now.

In the interest of time, I’m not going to review each one because I’ve shared them all several times before. But if you have questions, drop them in the comments, and I’ll do my best to get back to you in a timely manner. Links, sizing notes, and sale prices are beneath each picture.

And again, for size reference: I’m 5’5″ and 135 pounds, and I typically wear a 6 or 28 in pants and jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe. If I say TTS, that means the item is true to size, and I’m wearing my typical size.

How to Instantly Level Up a Casual Outfit

Happy Friday, my friends! So much to celebrate right now. Not only is it my birthday week and a long holiday weekend, but Victoria Emerson is running a sitewide BOGO sale, and she sent me a few new boho cuffs to style.

I love her boho cuffs because they have so many interesting elements, and they’re one and done. So easy!

You can certainly layer them with other bracelets if you want, but they’re substantial enough to stand on their own.

In fact, I had one on the night we went out for my birthday, and my 14-year-old daughter noticed it and said, Wow, that’s a lot of bracelets!

She was really intrigued when I showed her how they’re all hooked together with one easy clasp.

If you see something you like, act fast, because they don’t stay around for long.

I actually kind of like that there’s a high turnover rate on her site because you rarely see someone else wearing the exact same bracelet. It’s almost like having a unique piece of jewelry that was custom made for you!

My first look features this boho bracelet with shades of beige and white.

This is actually the Cairo worn backwards. You can turn it around for more of an earthy color palette, but I like how the white beads, beige leather strap, and the shell give the bracelet a beachy vibe — perfect for summertime.

The Tuscan would also be a good choice with this outfit. It has the same square crystal beads and marbled stones, and I really like how the brown textured leather strap echos the deeper brown tones from the snake print sandals.

For my second outfit, I wore a grey tee and white shorts with a boho cuff with shades of grey and white.

Unfortunately this one has sold out, but the Giorna has a similar vibe to the one I’m wearing.

The Colima boho cuff with its twinkling crystals and silver details would also be a nice choice for this outfit, or the Toluca with its animal print strap and dark crystals would give it a more edgy vibe.

And there’s always the Attica, which I’ve styled before. This is one of her classic pieces that is usually well-stocked.

For my final look, I wore a black tee with my white shorts, and I added the Manarola boho cuff with shades of black and silver. The combination of the gunmetal chain, shiny coins, and glittery black crystals is edgy yet delicate, perfect for date night.

I love how the boho cuff adds texture and sparkle and shine, and levels up this simple outfit for a look that is effortlessly chic.

All Victoria Emerson bracelets come with a linen drawstring bag for easy storage, or you can add a gift box for just $1.97 if you want to give one as a gift.

The BOGO deal is only good through Saturday, and styles do sell out quickly, so don’t wait around if you have your eye on one (or two!)

White Bermuda Shorts 3 Ways

Today I’m styling white Bermuda shorts three ways!

White Bermuda Shorts 3 Ways

I usually gravitate to shorts with a 4″ or 5″ inseam, but Bermuda shorts can be a classy, sophisticated option. The challenge is finding the right pair.

These white Paige cuffed Bermuda shorts have a classic fit with a 10″ inseam, and they’re made of an ultrasoft stretch denim.

They fit snug through the hips and thighs, and the leg opening is narrower than most, which is what keeps them from looking frumpy.

My first look pairs these white shorts with a pink linen henley tee.

Jo-Lynne Shane styles white Bermuda shorts 3 ways.

I think the rose shade of this top is so pretty, and I wore snake print sandals to add even more pattern and texture to the look.

I also added this Victoria Emerson boho cuff. I like how the white beads, beige leather strap, and the shell give the bracelet a beachy vibe — perfect for summertime.

My tote is from Everlane, and my oversized square sunnies are rag & bone.

For my second outfit, I paired the same white shorts with a grey linen tee.

A neutral outfit is always chic and sophisticated, and grey and white is one of my favorite combinations for summertime.

This time, I wore white leather slides with clean lines to keep a chic, minimalist feel.

I added a different Victoria Emerson boho cuff with shades of grey, silver, and white; and I wore my black tortoise cat eye Maui Jim sunnies.

For my final look, I dressed up these white Bermuda shorts for date night with a form-fitting black ribbed tee and silver wedge sandals.

White Bermuda Shorts 3 Ways

This time, I wore the Manarola boho cuff with shades of black and silver. The combination of the gunmetal chain, shiny coins, and glittery black crystals is edgy yet delicate, perfect for date night.

I love how the boho cuff adds texture and sparkle and shine, and levels up this simple outfit for a look that is effortlessly chic.

Outfit Details:

white Bermuda shorts // pink henley tee // snake print sandals // Cairo boho cuff // grey linen tee // similar white slides // similar grey bracelet // black ribbed tee // silver wedges // Manarola boho cuff // hoop earrings

FOR THE PINNERS…

If you liked this post on 3 ways to wear white Bermuda shorts, I would be honored if you’d save it to Pinterest so others can find it!

Top Ten in June 2020

Greetings on this fine Thursday morning! Thanks so much for all the birthday wishes yesterday. I didn’t have time to reply to everybody, but please know that I read and appreciate them all.

It’s time for my Top Ten in June. This is when I round up the most popular blog posts and retail products among JLS readers during the previous month.

My monthly Top Ten is a regular feature on the blog, and I always find it interesting to see what resonated most with you all.

TOP 10 POSTS IN JUNE 2020

Based on Google Analytics, these were my top 10 posts during the month of June — but not necessarily the posts I published last month.

Sometimes older posts still get a lot of traffic from Pinterest or Google, so they continue to rank in the top 10, even through they were written earlier. I figure they deserve a mention if they’re still getting ranked.

10. Black Tank Dress + Gold Sandals

This dress is from Everlane, and I styled it early on during our 22 Days of Summer Fashion style series last month. I actually wore this out to dinner last night!

The material is lightweight and breathable, and the dress skims the body without clinging. The seaming is really nice, and the straps perfectly cover my favorite bra. It also comes in 3 other colors, and it retails for just $58. It’s TTS; I have the small.

9. Two Stylish Ways to Wear White Shorts

This post was a collab with Nordstrom, and I styled these white twill shorts two ways. Unfortunately, the white ones are selling out, but they do come in other colors.

Also, this stripe sweater is really fun for mild summer days or evenings by the pool. It’s fully stocked, and also comes in ivory and black. Both pieces run true to size.

8. Short Sleeve Sweater Outfit

Jo-Lynne Shane wearing a cap sleeve sweater with white jeans nude sandals and Clare V. leopard clutch

I was kind of surprised this post ranked, although I’m not sure why. I do like the outfit a lot.

I kept the sweater, but I haven’t worn it yet. After looking at these pictures, I realized it’s rather boobalicious, lol! Maybe it’s the camera angle, I don’t know, but suddenly I feel a bit reticent to wear it.

At any rate, if you like it, it’s now on sale for $18!

7. What I Wore Lately + A Few Try-Ons

These posts always rank in my monthly Top Ten, and this time I combined the two regular features since my weekday slots were full with 22 Days of Summer Fashion.

This one contains a bunch of try-ons from LOFT and Boden that are still available and on sale this weekend, so it’s worth looking at if you missed it, or if you want a refresher.

6. Jeans and a Tee

Straight Ankle Jeans and a Tee

This might be my personal favorite outfit from the month. I just love the simplicity of it, and the updated version of a simple jeans and white tee outfit.

Unfortunately, all of the pieces are on the pricier side of the spectrum, although I was able to score the three key pieces — jeans, tee, and sandals — when they were on sale.

Right now, the t-shirt is 30% off, and if you are in the market for a high quality white tee, I highly recommend it. It’s also available in grey and black, and I recommend sizing up; I have the medium.

5. Summer Color Crush: Hot Pink

Hot Pink Linen Tank with Crop Straight Jeans

This outfit is another one of my favorites, plus I just love the backdrop of the photos. When Alison and I saw these flowers, we immediately wanted to photograph this outfit with them.

And I have good news! These gold sandals have been restocked, and the price is AMAZING! They come down to just $32.38 with code SPRING60.

They’re very comfortable for a slide, and I love the design of the strap across the foot. They have just a slightly molded footbed, too, so there’s a wee bit of support.

The gold is highly versatile, but they also come in a few other neutral colors as well as leopard. They run TTS; I have the 8.

Also, these jeans are on sale at Evereve. I really like the 25″ length. Definitely size down, though. I’m in the 4.

4. Try-On Haul: LOFT, Old Navy, Talbots, Ann Taylor & Nordstrom

This was my biggest try-on haul of the month, and there are so many goodies in here. Many are still available, so definitely check it out if you’re doing some shopping this weekend.

3. Do’s and Don’ts for Wearing Shorts

This post from May still gets a lot of Google and Pinterest traffic. It’s worth a re-read if you struggle with shorts.

2. Are Skinny Jeans Out of Style?

And this post was written back in March, but it’s been really popular on Pinterest, so it was actually my 2nd most popular post last month!

The answer, of course, is no. But I explain how to select skinny jeans that are on trend and how to style them in a way that keeps them fresh and modern.

1. Utility Shorts + Leopard Face Mask

It seems appropriate that the post that launched 22 Days of Summer Fashion was the most popular.

I couldn’t resist putting on a mask for my first outfit of the series, since they are definitely going to be a symbol of this crazy year when we look back on it after Covid is under control and this is all behind us. Plus, this one goes so well with my outfit!

As an aside, I don’t think I’ve ever styled so many flat shoes in a month! That’s definitely another sign of the times… flat shoes and face masks. (At least I’m not styling loungewear!)

Okay, moving on to popular products…

TOP 10 PRODUCTS IN JUNE 2020

These were the 10 most popular products across my blog and social channels last month. They’re listed in typical Top Ten order, with the most popular one last.

10. Athleta Soho Skort

I’ve never been much of a skort girl, but I’m really loving this one. It has such a nice fit, it’s very comfortable, and it also comes in some other pretty colors if the plain black isn’t for you. It’s TTS; I’m in the 6.

9. Paige Cindy High Waist Destroyed Hem Straight Leg Jeans

I’ve been loving these jeans lately, and it looks like some of you have too! They do go on sale from time to time, so I recommend holding out if you aren’t dying to have them right away.

8. LOFT Tie Front Sweater

This lightweight tie front sweater is such a gorgeous shade of coral. Even though it’s summer, we get some cool evenings, and I sometimes like to wear a long-sleeve sweater with shorts.

7. Madewell Tomboy V-Neck Tank

This is one of my favorite casual tops to throw on with shorts or this skort. The fabric is a little more substantial than most, and the cut is perfection.

I love the width of the straps and the shape of the v-neck, the straight split hem and the trim around the neck and armholes. It’s also the right length (24″) for wearing tucked or untucked.

6. Halogen x Atlantic-Pacific Ribbed Tank

Sorry to say, this one is selling out. It’s really cute with jeans and jean shorts. It also comes in a navy and white stripe, as well as a solid pink and solid neon yellow/green.

5. Lou & Grey Tweedknit Drawstring Dress

This popular dress keeps going in and out of stock. It’s TTS, and if you can snag your size, you should! It’s currently 40% off with HBDUSA.

4. Sanctuary 5 Pack Fashion PPE Masks

Sometimes I just wear the disposable kind, but when I want to be cute (if it is possible to be cute wearing a mask) I wear one of these. Sanctuary has recently released some new patterns that are really fun for summer, and Anthropologie carries some other patterns.

They also make masks for men and kids. See them all HERE.

also wearing: Everlane cap sleeve tee and WHBM utility shorts

3. Old Navy Loose Linen-Blend Jersey Henley Top

This linen henley is lightweight and breathable with an easy, relaxed fit, and it has some nice details. It’s true to size and comes in some other colors as well. Right now it’s marked down to $24 + an additional 20% off at checkout.

also wearing: Kut from the Kloth Catherine boyfriend shorts

2. Leith Ruched Body-Con Tank Dress

This dress probably needs no introduction. It’s been one of the most popular dresses in the blogosphere for going on 4 years, now! I do recommend sizing up. I have the medium.

And in first place! Drum roll please . . .  🥁

1. Sanctuary Laura V-Neck Linen Tee

It cracks me up that this top is in first place, as it’s been almost sold out ever since I first shared it at the beginning of June. I guess y’all are buying other items once you click through, but it clearly got a lot of traction.

I have looked and looked for it on other sites — usually Sanctuary tops can be found at multiple retailers — but I haven’t had any luck.

And that’s a wrap! Which posts from June were your favorites, and did you score any of these Top 10 products?

I love getting feedback from you all when you purchase from my site. It’s good to know what resonates, and I always want to be sure my recommendations are spot-on. It makes me so happy to hear when you’re pleased with a purchase; and of course if you aren’t, that’s helpful to know too.

What I Wore Lately Vol. 16

Hello and happy July 1st!

Not only is it a new month, but it’s also my birthday! #thisis48🎂 I also want to wish a happy Canada Day to my friends to the north! 💥🧨

Now that we’ve wrapped up 22 Days of Summer Fashion, I’m bringing What I Wore Lately back to Wednesdays. These posts are the answer to the question I get a lot, “But what do you really wear?”

In my outfit posts and try-on hauls, I challenge myself to include a variety of budgets and trends and outfits for an assortment of occasions, whereas What I Wore Lately is all about my personal style.

I’ve gotten into the habit of snapping a picture of what I’m wearing almost every time I exit my bedroom. I save them up to share then every other week on Wednesdays, and here we are!

What I Wore Lately: Everyday Summer Outfit Inspo

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and 135 pounds-ish, with a slight hourglass shape. Unless I say otherwise, I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe. If you have any questions about fit and sizing, don’t hesitate to ask!

This first look is one that I wore on a Saturday evening to have friends over for dinner on the deck.

You’ve seen this ruffle neck top before with the winter white linen sailor shorts, but this time I paired it with these crisp white raw hem cuffed denim shorts for a more casual look.

I added a necklace at the last minute, and I also wore these pearl hoop earrings.

I’m not sure why I have a picture of the back of this outfit, but I’ll go ahead and post it. I think I was taking it for my own use — sometimes I take a picture to see what I look like from behind. I feel like I can tell better in a picture than just looking in the mirror.

These shorts have a 4″ inseam, so they’re on the shorter side, but they still give enough coverage to be decent, and the pocket placement is good.

They’re thick and soft and not see-through, and they’re comfortable to wear. They don’t ride up or crease in awkward places, if you know what I mean…

FYI, these sailor shorts are fully stocked and 40% off. In fact, this entire outfit is 40% off now. This is what I’m planning to wear out to dinner tonight for my birthday.

The next day was Father’s Day, and we had reservations for outdoor dining at one of our favorite restaurants. It was HOT and our reservations were for mid-afternoon, so I was trying to find something cute and comfortable. I didn’t even bother to style my hair down because I knew I’d be wanting to put it in a ponytail.

I first tried on this sandwash dress. It’s very cool and comfortable, and I think it’s cute. I tried to jazz it up with jewelry, but my daughter told me I looked like I was wearing a swimsuit coverup.

Once she said that, it’s all I could see. I think it’s because I have this dress that I wear as a swimsuit coverup, and they’re similar in style, but the ponytail probably didn’t help matters either.

So then I switched into this floral jersey midi dress. I forget what her analogy was for this one, but she wasn’t terribly impressed. Plus, as I moved around, I could see that it’s just too low-cut. It needs to be altered if I’m going to keep it.

Finally, I tried on that Lou & Grey drawstring dress, but it seemed heavy for such a hot day.

By that time, I was running late, so decided to call it quits on trying to wear a dress. I threw on this pink linen tee and white cuffed shorts with my new cork sandals instead. There’s something to be said for the tried and true.

Here’s a picture of Paul and the girls at lunch… D was at camp.

Speaking of that pool coverup… this is what I ended up wearing after we got home.

I was planning to go in the pool (I did have my bathing suit on underneath), but it was so pleasant on the deck in the shade with a gentle breeze that I ended up just sitting there while Paul swam.

The next day, I had PT and then a strength training appointment, and I never changed out of my workout gear for the rest of the day.

I absolutely adore each one of these pieces. The cloudlight stratus tee is the softest thing, and it has such a good drape, plus the neckline and sleeves are super flattering.

And the joggers are also very soft, and fit so nicely without clinging. I did size up in these, by the way. I have them in the medium.

The Nikes are very padded and comfortable, and the gold emblem against the black shoe is kind of chic… or as chic as a running sneaker gets.

The day after that is when I had my x-ray, MRI, and bloodwork appointments. I wore this casual jeans and t-shirt outfit.

My graphic tee is sold out, but these are the Paige destroyed hem straight leg jeans that I was debating about a few weeks ago. Now that I’ve started wearing them, I really like them. They were on sale, but they’re back to full price now.

Later in the day, a friend came over with her kids to swim in the pool, and I ended up getting in too. Afterwards, I threw on this comfy t-shirt and shorts to make dinner.

This tee is so good. I mean, it’s as plain as it gets, but it’s soooo soft, and it washes up well and maintains its shape, and it never needs an iron or a steamer. It does run small, though. I have it in the medium.

Oh, and guess what!?! These jean shorts have just been restocked in a couple of sizes. They’re TTS, or size down if in between. They do tend to stretch out some with wear.

I’m losing track of days, but I guess this is the day R and I went to Kohl’s because that’s what the picture is named. It sure is helpful that I do that!

It’s just simple jeans and a tank, but I pulled out these Agolde crop straight leg jeans that I haven’t worn in a while.

When I bought those jeans, I thought I’d wear them a lot once the weather warmed up, but I don’t find myself reaching for them very often. I guess I still struggle with the crop straight tend. My long legs are one of my best features, and I feel like these make me look stumpy. I liked them better with the sock booties in the wintertime.

You guys… look how short my hair was back in January before Covid, lol!!!

Okay, back to this outfit… I went with black sandals to bookend the look, and because these are sooo comfortable for doing a lot of walking.

I added some casual jewelry, and then I’m not sure why, because I have no problem with plain outfits, but this one just seemed to need a little something something, so I threw on a leopard belt.

I guess I was on a black and denim kick, because I wore this on Friday for my microblading appointment. (I don’t have a picture of what I wore on Thursday; I had PT and strength training again on the same day.)

Definitely size up at least a half size in these Sam Edelman sandals. I have the 8.5 and they just fit.

And I guess you can see here that I had the microblading done. My eyebrows look really harsh right now, but they will lighten up over the next month or so.

I wore this next outfit to the spa on Saturday to get my nails done. After that, I hung out at home for the afternoon and did some work, and we ended up having friends over on the patio that night. I think I kept this on all day, but I can’t remember for sure.

This tank is $5, you guys. FIVE DOLLARS. And free shipping for Madewell Insiders. It’s really cute on, too. I love the colors.

This was Sunday, and we had a few families over for a going away party. It was another really hot day, so I kept it casual in jean shorts and another Madewell tank. I love these tanks, can you tell?

I started to wear the tank front-tucked, and then I realized this one is short enough to leave out. Plus, the shorts are longer than what I typically wear, so that helps keep a good balance.

And then on Monday, I wore this comfy dress to hang out at home after my early morning PT appointment.

Here’s a view of the back. It’s really flattering for a t-shirt dress. It has some shaping through the waist, and the curved hemline is a nice feature.

We ended up going to a local state park for a picnic with friends for dinner, and I changed into my skort. I know the dress is super casual and would have been appropriate, but I just cannot get comfortable in a dress. I always feel like everything’s hanging out, and I wasn’t about to wear shapewear to sit outside in the summer heat.

The instant I pulled on this skort, I felt so much better. I just like to have something over my belly. It helps me feel like something is holding it in. Plus, it has the built-in shorts for modesty so I didn’t have to futz with an extra piece of clothing.

One of you tipped me off to the CALIA By Carrie Underwood line at Dick’s Sporting Goods, and I ordered this tank. It’s it a great color?

And cute is the back with the criss cross straps? It’s very soft and comfortable too. I just wish it wasn’t quite so long. I did a front-tuck but let it hang out in the back.

And yesterday was pretty much a wash. I just wore an old tank top and the 3″ Gap jean shorts with my Birks. No makeup, 3-day hair… It wasn’t picture worthy, trust me!

So, that’s it! I have a photo shoot with Alison this morning, and then I’m excited to be going out out dinner for my birthday tonight at one of my favorite restaurants.

Even though restaurants are now allowed to have indoor seating, we still opted for the outdoor dining. I feel safer that way. I just hope the weather holds out.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!
