What To Buy on Cyber Monday

I’m doing something a little different this year. I still updated my Black Friday Sale Guide, as there are LOTS of updates and a few new sales for Cyber Monday.

But for this post, I rounded up the items that I believe are most worth buying on Cyber Monday, organized by topic. I hope it’s helpful!

In general, when retailers are offering their deepest discounts, you want to use the opportunity to purchase those investment pieces and the higher ticket items that rarely go on sale, because your savings will be far more significant it you purchase items at a higher price point.

Of course, it’s also a great time to finish up your holiday shopping because it all adds up, and if you’re getting the best deals, you might as well knock it out all at once!

But if you’re shopping to get the most bang fr your buck, these are the items I would focus on.

Boots

If you live in an area with much of a winter, quality boots are a must, and they don’t come cheap, so this is a great time to make that investment.

Sorel has one of the best sales going this weekend, with 40% off throughout the site, and a 50% off special deal each day.

I have several pairs of Sorel boots, and you just can’t find boots that are a better marriage of style and quality. If you’re looking for practical, stylish winter boots, this is a sale you will not want to miss!

Sorel Slimpack II Lace Duck Boots // My most worn pair is definitely these duck boots. I keep them in my mudroom and pull them on to go to my fall/winter workouts (I change into sneakers once I get there) and they also look great with jeans and leggings outfits.

I also have and love the Joan of Arctic wedges and the Joan of Arctic snow boots, and I recently ordered the Explorer Joan Boots to try.

Sporto Minor Waterproof Suede Mid-Calf Boot with Faux Fur Trim // For a lower priced boot that is still on trend and very practical, check out the Sporto Minor from HSN.

I ordered a pair when they were on a special sale last week, and I really like them. They’re super warm and comfortable, and the styling is on point. While the special deal is over, they’re still a great price at $67.40.

For fashion boots, Nordstrom has a great sale going right now on popular styles.

Vince Henderson Chelsea Boots // As you know, I’ve struggled a bit with styling these, but they are gorgeous boots — waterproof, super comfortable, and very high quality. The price right now is amazing for this brand.

Cashmere

Cyber Monday is a great time to snag luxury designer cashmere like Vince, Equipment, and Theory; and the store brands like Halogen, Aqua, and Nordstrom Signature are also on deep discounts. This is pretty much as good as it ever gets!

I took a bunch of pictures yesterday, and I want to write a post to compare the different cashmere brands, but for now, here are my favorites:

Vince Cashmere Weekend V-Neck // This cashmere v-neck is by Vince, and it’s one of my go-to fall/winter wardrobe staples. It has a relaxed fit, generous sleeve length and overall body length, and you can wear it either half-tucked or untucked.

It’s currently 30% off at the Vince website, and it’s also included in the Bloomingdale’s Cyber Sale. This sweater comes in other colors too, and it’s TTS; I have the small.

Equipment Turtleneck // Speaking of luxury cashmere, this Equipment turtleneck is another one of those luxury purchases I snagged on an end of season sale, and I’m so glad I did because it’s such a great winter wardrobe staple.

The one I have was the Oscar, and this year’s version is the Delafine, which is currently 30% off at Bloomindale’s and 20% off at Shopbop. I assume they’re the same or very similar. It has a more relaxed fit, and mine is definitely longer than most, so I always give it a front-tuck, as shown above.

Naadam Cashmere Scoop Sweater // I also want to call out Naadam in the luxury cashmere category because their Cyber Monday Sale is seriously insane. Don’t let this one pass you by. They are truly the softest, thickest, most sumptuous cashmere sweaters I’ve tried.

My favorite is no longer available, but the is scoop sweater (above) is a nice one too. It’s just a tad low-cut for my comfort level, so I don’t wear it a lot. I’ve ordered a few more to try, but they aren’t in yet.

Halogen V-Neck Cashmere Sweater // For under-$100 cashmere, Halogen is one of my favorites.

It’s thinner and less dense than the higher end luxury brands, but it’s still super soft and comfortable. Plus, they usually have some nice details that make them a little more special than your most basic sweater styles.

Right now, they are all 41% off at Nordstrom!

Halogen Crewneck Cashmere Sweater

I have this v-neck in the black and the oatmeal, and this crewneck in the grey (shown above). I’ve had the turtleneck, as well, and it’s very nice with a relaxed fit.

Aqua Cashmere Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater // The Bloomingdale’s Aqua brand is also really good for a store-brand cashmere. It’s a little more dense than the Halogen, but not quite as soft. I like the details on this turtleneck — the extra long ribbed cuffs and exposed side seams. It also has a seam up the back for added interest.

These do fit a little more snugly than the Halogen brand, and you may want to size up for some extra wiggle room. I’m wearing a small here, but I’ve purchased mediums in the past. I’m wearing the wheat color above.

Everlane The Cashmere V-Neck // Another good under-$100 option for cashmere is Everlane.  Their Cashmere Crew is on sale for $75 today. I don’t find their cashmere to be as soft as Halogen, but it’s nice and dense and fairly thick, and it doesn’t pill quickly.

Coats

Coats are another item worth buying on Cyber Monday, as they tend to be higher ticket items that don’t go on sale all that often. See my Winter Coat Guide for lots of suggestions. Here are a few of my top picks from this year’s Cyber Monday sales.

The North Face Westborough Insulated Quilted Jacket // I picked up this quilted jacket a few weeks ago, and I’ve been wearing it a lot lately, especially since we’re having such a mild fall. I can’t believe it is still in stock, especially now that it’s 30% off!

It also comes in black and navy, but I’ve been surprised by how much I’m enjoying the white. I especially love the yellow and black accents.

Ralph Lauren Wool Blend Reefer // A classic wool blend coat in grey, camel, or black is another winter wardrobe essential that you can score for a great deal on Cyber Monday sales.

I have this Ralph Lauren Reefer Coat in black, and it’s my go-to for dressy outfits this time of year. It’s also a great way to level up more casual looks. It’s currently 35% off and fully stocked! (I have the 6.)

AllSaints Dalby Biker Jacket // If a high quality leather moto jacket has been on your wish list, AllSaints is the gold standard, and this weekend they’re 30% off!

They have other styles too, but the Dalby is one of their most popular. My oxblood color is almost sold out, but they have sizes from 00 – 10 in the black. (For size reference, I take an 8 in this jacket; and I recommend sizing up if in between.)

Nordstrom also has a lot of choices for quality leather jackets on sale this weekend. You can drill down by color and size after you click on THIS LINK to see all the options.

Halogen Drape Collar Faux Leather Jacket // And if you’d rather not make a huge investment in genuine leather, take a look at these faux leather options.

The one I’m wearing above is NOT on sale, but it is under $100 and looks really good on. It comes in coffee brown (shown above) as well as black.

Holiday Photo Cards

Minted Holiday Photo Cards // Minted always has their best sale of the year on Cyber Monday, and this is when I order my holiday photo cards. They just went 25% off everything, plus, FREE shipping! (The code is CM2020.)

Pajamas

Okay, admittedly not a big ticket item, but good quality pajamas still aren’t cheap, and they’re popular for gift-giving at Christmastime, so this is a good day to buy them!

Soma just went 40% off for Cyber Monday, and some select styles of their Cool Nights Pajama Sets are marked $29. They also have their Embraceable Pajamas for more options.

Nordstrom also has some good Cyber Monday deals on quality pajamas today, and I’m sure there are others. Chime in if you have a favorite brand!

Denim

You can find good prices on denim all year-round if you pay attention, but this is still a good day to find good deals.

One of the best denim sales I’ve found is at Bloomingdale’s — save up to 50% off premium denim, and select styles are $99!!!

AG Farrah

There is lots of AG on sale, Paige, rag & bone, and more. Nordstrom has some good prices on denim as well.

rag & bone Cate ankle skinny jeans

Also, if you go right to the designer websites, you can often find good deals. Like, Rag & Bone has 25% off a lot of their jeans, prices as marked. The Cate is one of my favorite skinny styles, and their Dre is good for a straight boyfriend, but size down at least one in the Dre.

And Paige is doing 30% off with Promo Code: Cyber30. Shop their denim here.

Skincare

Skincare can be pricey, and the major brands rarely go on sale. I’ve actually bought quite a bit of skincare this weekend!

Elemis has 35% off, which again, is kind of unheard of! I know I keep saying this, but it is Cyber Monday, after all.

Their cleansing balm is amazing, and I’ve been wanting to try some of their skincare, but I have other products I’m enjoying right now so I haven’t invested in those. I hear great things, though!

Colleen Rothschild Beauty is another skincare brand I use a lot, and she has 30% off this weekend.

It’s a great time to stock up on any of your favorites. I love her Face Oil N°9 and Retinol Supreme Eye Serum. Also, her hand cream is really good and makes a nice gift.

Timeless Skin Care has 50% off a $75 purchase with code BLACKFRIDAY50, and shipping is always free. I just started using their Coenzyme Q10 Serum and Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum every morning, and I love the results. I also just ordered the Matrixyl Synthe’6 to add to my nighttime regimen.

At 50% off, it pays to get the larger sizes, and that will easily get you to the $75 minimum purchase to enjoy the savings.

Also, Tarte Cosmetics is doing 40% off and my new favorite eye shadow palette is included!

Winter Workout Gear

If you exercise outside in cold winter climates, winter workout great can be quite an expense, so I always ask for winter running gear for Christmas.

Jo-Lynne Shane wearing a stylish all-black workout outfit with Sweaty Betty merino hoodie and 7/8 technical leggings, Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 running shoes, and Adidas Trefoil Baseball Cap.

Sweaty Betty All Sport Backpack // Sweaty Betty 7/8 Power Workout Leggings

Sweaty Betty is doing up to 70% off select items, and 30% off everything else. I discovered this brand last spring, when lockdown went into effect, and they make some really nice quality and extremely flattering workout wear. Their leggings are uber flattering, and they have some really cute tops/sweatshirts as well.

I have and love these Zero Gravity Cropped Running Leggings and these 7/8 Power Workout Leggings — both are 30% off, but these Power Mesh 7/8 Leggings are similar and currently 50% off!

I also have this Luxe Fleece Hoodie, but only small sizes are currently available, and I just ordered this running tank and warmup hoodie.

Athleta almost never runs a site-wide sale, but they have 20% off for Cyber Monday, and I asked Santa for these Polartec Power Tights, Balaclava, and Insulated Primaloft Jacket.

Good deals on workout wear can also be found right now at Lululemon and Nike.

Electronics

I know I usually focus on fashion, but this is also a great time to purchase hot electronic items, so I rounded up a few of those here too.

Apple AirPods are at their lowest price ever at Amazon for $109. (The lowest price elsewhere seems to be $119.) My kids and I all got these last year for Christmas, and we all use them daily. One of the best $120 investments ever!

This year a few of us are jonesing for an Apple Watch. Good deals can be had on those at Amazon and Target.

I’m sure there are so many more I could mention, but these are the ones on my radar at the moment.

What I’m Buying on Cyber Monday

People always want to know what I’m buying! Well, I ordered the Soma Embraceable Long Sleeve Notch Collar Pajama Top and Embraceable Pajama Pants in Soft Snowfall Grand Black. At 40% off, I couldn’t resist!

I splurged on the Elemis cleansing balm since my Colleen Rothschild cleansing balm is almost gone. Both are really good, and I can never decide which I like better so I kind of go back and forth.

I also went ahead and got the larger sizes of the Coenzyme Q10 Serum and Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum at Timeless Skincare, since I know I love them. And I ordered the Matrixyl Synthe’6 in the smaller size to try out.

I’m intrigued by cashmere sweatpants, so I ordered the Quince cashmere sweatpants for $89.90 to try. And I just ordered this running tank and warmup hoodie from Sweaty Betty.

And I will definitely be ordering my holiday photo cards today from Minted!

Oh, and I snagged the Nordstrom Signature v-neck in the olive a few days ago. It’s such a classic and such good quality, and for $97, it seemed wrong not to get another color.

And I almost forgot Sorel!!!

I ordered the Lennox Shearling Booties in Sandy Tan at Bloomies (it won’t link directly to them.) I really wanted the Lennox version (no shearling) at Evereve, but they sold out in my size and they are not included in the sale at Sorel.

I like them, but they’re a tad small so I’m exchanging for the 8.5. I also ordered the Explorer Joan Boots in Ash Brown directly from Sorel for 40% off, but I don’t have them yet. I won’t keep both pairs — I will have to choose one.

That’s enough for me. Now I need to finish up my Christmas shopping!

Let me know what good deals you scored this weekend. I love to hear!

Coffee Talk 11.29.20

Good morning on this last Sunday of November! I hope you had a good holiday week.

Even though we were alone, our Thanksgiving Day was oddly comforting. Maybe it was because I had very low expectations, but it turned out to be a really nice day. Everyone was in a good mood and hung out downstairs for a good portion of the day.

That may sound like an odd thing to be thankful for, but my kids are the ages at which they would generally prefer to be in their rooms… if they’re not out with friends, that is. And I know they were disappointed that we were’t spending time with any of our extended family, so I was pleasantly surprised when they treated the day like the holiday it is and hung out down here with us.

As for me, I did some early morning computer work while everyone was sleeping in, and then I went out for a run. I usually run a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, but of course there were none of those this year because #covid.

So I ran my own. I set my Runkeeper for 3.1 miles and set out on a route that takes me over to my old neighborhood. It’s familiar and comforting in that way, but also hilly. Yikes!

I didn’t stop my Runkeeper app except when I had to cross a busy road or hop aside and wait for a passing car, so I was absolutely amazed when I got finished and realized I had averaged a 10:09 min mile.

These days, I can barely get it under 11 on most of my 3 mile runs, so that was thrilling! Maybe I will get my old mojo back eventually…

After that, I came back and got myself all gussied up, even though we were just having dinner with the 5 of us, and then it was time to start the food prep. Even though I did the Whole Foods thing, I still ended up spending quite a while in the kitchen.

I made French Onion Dip and set out snacks and apps to enjoy before dinner, and then I made that sweet potato casserole I keep talking about. (recipe below) Even though I reheated mostly everything else, it’s amazing how much time and orchestration it takes to reheat a Thanksgiving meal!

The verdict? The food was rather underwhelming, but I was still grateful I didn’t make every single one of those dishes. We ended the day by having another family over for dessert, so at least that felt somewhat festive.

When Friday dawned, we were up bright and early because I like to get my Black Friday Sale Guide updated first thing in the morning and the girls actually got up at 6AM to go shopping.

They got back around lunchtime, and we drug D out of bed and all went to a tree farm to get our Christmas tree.

That was a bit of a disappointment, as the trees had all been cut and were just propped up in a sad little arrangement designed to look like a field of trees. There were probably 10 families milling around and about 30 trees to choose from.

Okay, I’m sure there were more than 30, but that’s about what it felt like.

We made the best of it, though, and picked a tree that we brought home and put in the family room. We finally got around to decorating it last night, and I suppose it will do. It’s not the best tree we’ve ever had, but it’s not the worst either.

Hey, it’s 2020! What did we expect?

Okay, I have to say, the 2020 jokes are getting old. Sometimes things don’t work out perfectly. That’s just life.

Speaking of things not working out perfectly, I’ve jacked up my shoulder again. It’s the same spot I had the trouble with a couple months ago, and this time it’s even worse.

I felt it coming on earlier in the week, and stupidly ignored it. This time, I don’t know what I did to aggravate it, but I don’t think it was related to a workout because I didn’t work out this week.

My gut tells me it’s the same thing that caused that stupid hip/butt issue I struggled with for the first half of the 2020 — the ridiculous amount of hours I spend sitting at my desk during this time of year.

That issue started during holiday time last year, and I didn’t get around to seeking treatment for it until February or March, so it took a long time to resolve.

Sitting definitely makes this shoulder issue worse, and in a cruel twist of fate, so does lying down, so I get no relief when I lie down in bed and try to rest or sleep.

It occurred to me when it started to bother me on Monday or Tuesday that I should call the chiropractor who helped me before and see if I could get in, but I was “too busy.”

I didn’t have any idea it would escalate like this, but the next thing I knew, I was in the middle of a long holiday weekend with the situation intensifying and no one to call. I keep telling myself I just have to make it till Monday, but every day (and night) it gets worse.

By some stroke of good fortune, I just so happened to have a massage scheduled for yesterday morning, so I told my massage therapist about it, and she worked on it. I don’t think it helped much in the grand scheme of things, but it felt good.

She did confirm that I carry all my stress in my shoulders — she said I had like 4 or 5 knots in that area. Grand.

I’m just hoping the chiropractor can fit me in tomorrow, and that he can fix me again, so I don’t end up needing an injection or something dreadful like that.

Meanwhile, I did notice that it felt a lot better after running on Thursday, so you better believe I’m getting out there this morning for a good, long run. I’ve also been taking Aleve and having Paul rub an anti-inflammatory cream into the area a couple times a day.

I’m currently standing at the island in my kitchen, typing on my laptop, as this position seems to offer some relief. I guess this is how I’ll be working for the time being! I know the real solution is to stop spending so much time at the computer, and to move more… But that’s easier said than done.

Speaking of which…

I updated my Black Friday Shopping Guide this morning, with the latest promos and a few new sales too.

I listed the sales that are new to the page at the top, so you can see if there are any you want to check out in more depth. (Then scroll down where they are listed alphabetically with product picks and more commentary.)

Also, I wanted to tell you that Victoria Emerson has added a bunch of new styles, just this morning!

Two of the bracelets I couldn’t find on their website when I created yesterday’s post are NOW IN STOCK! (Sorry, for yelling, but I was so excited to discover this. I guess they sent me a few that weren’t online yet. #jobperks)

This is actually the Talca boho cuff… I had linked to the Bonn as a similar style. Both are gorgeous, but I know sometimes y’all want the exact one I’m showing.

And this one — the Bree is now in stock! I think this one is so different and pretty, with the animal print strap, and how the beads have a hint of pink.

Okay, and one more random thing I wanted to mention — this is a great weekend to order holiday photo cards.

I always order my holiday cards from Minted. I love the quality and the designs they have to choose from.

Right now, they’re doing 15% off everything or 20% off orders $150+ with free shipping; but historically, this sale does get better on Cyber Monday. It usually goes to 25% off, so I plan to order mine tomorrow.

You can get your design all set and ready to go today, save it, and place your order tomorrow. That’s what I plan to do.

Okay, so that’s about it for me. It’s in the low 30s here right now, so I’ll have to get bundled up, but I’m not missing my run today. I’m praying it helps me get through today and tonight, and that I can get into my chiropractor tomorrow.

Have a blessed Sunday!

Oh, and as promised, here is that Sweet Potato Pudding recipe… I wanted to get some pretty pictures and make a post about it, but that didn’t happen. So! Here it is…

Sweet Potato Pudding Recipe

  • 4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • marshmallows for topping

Boil sweet potatoes until fork tender; drain and mash. Beat eggs until fully mixed; add brown sugar and beat together. Add cooked sweet potatoes to egg/sugar mixture; then add cream, vanilla, baking powder, and cinnamon. Beat till smooth. Pour into buttered casserole dish and bake 400 for 15 min. Reduce heat to 375 and continue to cook for 30 min. Add marshmallows for last 15. Enjoy!

Add A Little Bling to Your Holiday Looks

Thank you to Victoria Emerson for sponsoring this post!

Happy Saturday, friends! Did you score any great deals yesterday? I purchased… ahem, way too much. I always have a hard time passing up Black Friday prices!

Speaking of Black Friday prices, Victoria Emerson is running a BOGO Free Sale this weekend on all her bracelets — no code needed.

Whether your holiday looks are dressy or casual this year, Victoria Emerson bracelets are a great way to add a little bling to your look without breaking the budget… especially when they’re buy one, get one free!

I love how this  silver and rhinestone cuff makes even a casual outfit look dressed-up and edgy. This is the Talca and it was just released!

In fact, she has released a ton of new styles, just in time for Cyber Monday!

Unfortunately, my smokey silver crystals with long silver beads on grey — that I styled with this blouse and coated denim combo — has sold out, but I am in love with so many of her new styles.

How gorgeous is this chocolate mocha on black wrap, and the grey stones with silver chain on grey?

These wrap bracelets have 3 settings, so they fit just about any size wrist. I usually use the smallest setting and cut off the excess.

I wore the Warwick Cuff with my leather jacket and rust scarf outfit last week.

The rose gold metallic leather, square cut crystals, silvery chains, and dainty champagne crystals are the perfect complement to the rust in the scarf and other neutral tones in the outfit.

And how fun is this Bree cuff with the soft leather, coins, crystal beads, and animal print strap?

Victoria Emerson’s boho cuffs all have a magnetic clasp engraved with her logo. They’re very easy to put on and off one-handed.

Sometimes they’re a little bit of a challenge to get off at first, but they loosen up in time. The trick is to tilt it to break the magnetic bond.

Here are some more of my Victoria Emerson favorites that are in stock…

Freshwater Pearls on Grey

Milan Cuff

Sunrise Orange on Natural Leather

Cairo Cuff

Alicante Cuff

With the BOGO promotion right now, this is a great way to add some bling to your everyday looks and also treat a friend, teacher, sister, daughter for the holidays!

Holiday Outfit with Coated Maroon Skinny Jeans

We may not have a lot of outings and get-togethers this year, but when I have the chance, I plan to dress up.

Even if all that means is coated jeans instead of regular everyday denim, pumps instead of flats, or an embellished blouse instead of your favorite pullover sweater.

Bonus points when you do all three!

You can up the ante even more with a piece of statement jewelry like this Victoria Emerson wrap bracelet.

In fact, all of her bracelets are BOGO free today; see more in THIS POST!

This blouse is the Cece brand from Nordstrom, and it’s 40% off this weekend!

I love how the cheer lace embellished sleeves add subtle texture and dimension to the simple blouse. It runs true to size; I have the small.

I paired it with these high waist coated maroon skinny jeans from Express.

These jeans are extremely comfortable, and not stiff like some coated denim can be.

They’re on a special offer right now, marked down to $35 from $98!!! They run true to size; I have the 6.

I finished the look with black suede pumps and a metallic clutch.

Shop the Post:

Cece blouse // Express jeans // Marc Fisher pumps // Victoria Emerson bracelet (c/o) // Rebecca Minkoff clutch // Kendra Scott earrings

What I Wore Lately Vol. 35

Hi friends! It’s Wednesday and Thanksgiving Eve, if you’re here in the States, and that means it’s time for What I Wore Lately.

I feel like I JUST wrote one of these posts. Seriously, like three days ago. Life is so weird sometimes.

Any-who. Let’s just dive right in.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and 135 pounds, with an hourglass shape. Unless I say otherwise, I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe.

What I Wore Lately

Starting back last Wednesday… I don’t know why these first two pictures look so weird, the light was odd that day or something.

I must have run an errand or something, I’ve got my purse on my shoulder for a reason. I threw on this relaxed rust-red “ex-boyfriend” sweater with a pair of my trusty skinnies and P448 sneakers.

Madewell sweater (S) // AG jeans (28) // P448 sneakers (38) // LV Neverfull

On Thursday, I went for a run and then got showered and dressed down to my shoes, even though I didn’t go anywhere. Some days it just feels good to get dressed.

I had a Zoom meeting, so I put on some fun jewelry to jazz up the look.

Leith dolman (S) // Good American jeans (28) // AGL flats (8 1/2; size up!) // Halogen earrings // Stella & Dot necklace

I had a nail appointment on Friday, but I had a workout before that.

Zella jacket (S) // Athleta tank (S) // Vuori leggings (M; size up) // Brooks Ghost (size 9)

I just changed from leggings to joggers and added some makeup before going to the nail salon, and I stayed in this for the rest of the day. Of course, I had to switch to flip-flops after I had my pedicure.

Zella jacket (S) // Athleta tank (S) // Lululemon Align joggers (6) // P448 sneakers (39) // Anna Beck pendant // Lagos earrings

By the way, I keep meaning to buy more of these Athleta momentum tanks. I was hoping they’d go on sale this weekend because I’d like to get rid of my other workout tanks and replace them with these. I love how this one fits and stays put.

Saturday was the day I had the house all to myself for the afternoon while Paul took the kids to see his mom. After my run, I took my time with hair and makeup and threw on one of my favorite casual outfits.

It was kind of a waste of time, since I literally went nowhere and saw no one besides my family (unless you count the several thousand people who saw my Insta Story… lol!) But again, some days I just need the pick-me-up of getting fully dressed and made up. It starts to get depressing when I don’t for a few days in a row.

Anyway, this sweater is probably my favorite Anni Sale purchase of all time. (I got it last year, at the 2019 #NSale.)

It’s a Vince, but it’s not cashmere. It’s a textured cotton/polyamide/elastane, so machine washable, and I cannot believe how good it still looks, considering how many times I’ve worn and washed it. It never loses its shape or shrinks.

It must be very under-whelming to everyone else, considering it’s still fully stocked at Nordstrom Rack, but I love it and reach for it a couple times a week during fall and winter.

Vince sweater (S)// similar rag & bone skinnies (28) // P448 sneakers (38) // Anna Beck pendant // Lagos earrings

I stayed home on Sunday because I wasn’t feeling quite right — although it turned out to be allergies, I think. I wore my sherpa with leggings, but I didn’t take a picture. This is an old one.

FYI, these leggings are one of my favorites, and they’re finally on sale at 30% off! I have never seen these on sale before. They’re incredibly soft, and the ones I reach for when I’m going to be staying at home and want to be super comfortable.

Not that I wouldn’t work out in them, I just never have.

Abercrombi sherpa (S)// Beyond Yoga leggings (M) // UGG Quincy boots (9 but wish I had 8 1/2; size up half) // Pandora necklace

I went to the mall on Monday to pick up a few things for my photo shoot yesterday, and I wanted to wear my new Paige Cindy straight ankle jeans. I also grabbed this Nordstrom Signature cashmere sweater, which is back on sale at 35% off! (It was an #NSale purchase this year.)

And I added my AllSaints jacket, which is on sale but limited in sizes. Size up in this, if ordering. I have the 8.

(There is one size 6 at Bloomies, but my link redirects to the blue one. The oxblood should show on the sidebar, though, under You Might Also Love.)

I thought these jeans were going to work with the Vince Henderson boots I’ve been struggling with… which are also on sale again — 50% off!!!

But as I was walking around the house, getting ready to go, I noticed my jeans kept getting caught on the back of the boots. I asked my 17-y/o daughter if that would bother her, or if I should get over it.

Now, mind you, the child is wired exactly the same as I am, and maybe we should both get over it. But she agreed it was annoying and didn’t look very good when they did that, so I decided to switch to my Aquatalia boots with the higher shaft.

I actually think I like these boots better with the look overall; they’re a tad dressier, which seems to suit the rest of the outfit.

AllSaints jacket (size 8; similar for less) // Nordstrom Signature cashmere v-neck (S) // Paige Cindy straight ankle jeans (28) // sorta similar Aquatalia boots // belt (M) // Lagos earrings & necklace

When I got home, I took off the jacket and switched from boots to mules for the rest of the day.

Now, a word about this sweater. I’ve been asked how it compares to the Halogen. Both are Nordstrom made brands, but Nordstrom Signature labels are generally higher quality than Halogen, and priced to match the luxury brands.

Like all the Nordstrom made brands, you get a lot of bang for your buck because you aren’t paying for a designer label… especially when they go on sale.

This Nordstrom Signature sweater is definitely a step up in quality from the similar Halogen v-neck, but in some ways, I like the Halogen better.

The Halogen has slightly longer sleeves, which I always appreciate, with a really pretty detail around the v-neck. I also prefer the 25″ body length.

Halogen cashmere v-neck (S)

I like the ribbed crossover detail on the Nordstrom Signature v-neck as well, but it has a slightly more casual vibe. (You probably need to click through and look at the pictures online to see the details I’m referring to; it’s hard to photograph with the black.)

The Nordstrom Signature is also an inch longer and has the split hem, which I find a little more awkward to front-tuck… but because of the 26″ length, it needs a front-tuck. At least for me, at 5’5″ and short-waisted.

Nordstrom Signature cashmere v-neck (S)

And while the Nordstrom Signature sweater is definitely made of a more dense, finely woven knit — a sign of higher quality — the Halogen is softer.

So yeah, it’s a toss-up for me. I have both, and I wear them both depending on what I’m going for.

I will say this, however: I expect the Nordstrom Signature sweater will far outlive the Halogen one. I may get one or maybe two seasons out of the Halogen before it starts to pill and look worn, but I expect to have the Nordstrom Signature sweater five years from now.

Okay, then!

Movingrightalong…

I had a photoshoot on Tuesday morning, and afterwards I threw on this mock neck sweater from Express with my favorite washed black Good American jeans.

This sweater is 50% off, by the way! (It’s the Beige 2557.) It looks so nice on and feels really soft — there is no wool content.

It also washes up really well. With less expensive sweaters, I’m never sure what to expect, but I got makeup on the neck and had to wash it. I put it in with other light colors on a normal cycle, and then I laid it out to dry, and it kept its shape beautifully.

I was a bit chilly, though, and I wanted to throw on a leather jacket to run some errands, so I changed to a more traditional turtleneck.

I was going to put on my black leather jacket, and then I saw my new oxblood one hanging there, and I put it on instead. Gotta get my cost per wear out of this baby, right!?!

I love this look, but at the last second, I wondered what it would look like with the Vince Henderson boots. I know I’ve tried them with these jeans before and didn’t love the combo, but with the whole outfit together, I thought they just might work this time, and they do!

The chunky turtleneck with the jacket helps off-set the chunky boot, and the black jeans and boot combo creates a long, lean leg line.

I was also wearing these Smartwool socks, which I think helps add some extra bulk around the ankle area, inside of the jeans, so they look better with the boots.

I was thrilled when I liked the whole look together because this is an outfit I can see wearing a lot this fall and winter. It’s chic but still warm and comfortable enough to wear running errands and things.

Here’s a close-up of the jeans and boot combo.

When I got home, I took off my jacket and kept this on for the rest of the day. (I eventually kicked off my boots and wore my socks, but I kept them on for a while. They are that comfortable.)

Okay, so that’s a wrap for what I wore this week! But I do want to call your attention to a few select items on sale.

There are so many sales this weekend, I can hardly keep track of them all, but these are the ones that stand out to me.

Things I’ve Worn On Sale

Evidently the Everlane loafer mules are at Nordstrom Rack. Not sure what’s up with that, but the price is great!

These are my favorite mules, and they also have the red. Size up half; I wear the 8H. And here’s a link to all the Everlane at Nordstrom Rack, if you’re interested.

Everlane The Day Loafer Mules (size up half; wearing 8H)

The coveted Abercrombie sherpas are all 50% off for myA&F members, and they make really great gifts… or a little pick-me-up if you’re looking for one.

I’m wearing the light brown animal print, and R has this one in the mauve brown. It runs TTS (I have the S and R has the XS.)

Abercrombie & Fitch Half Zip Faux Leather Trim Sweatshirt (S)

It’s also long enough to wear with leggings, which is nice. And P.S. These leggings are 30% off too!

Abercrombi sherpa (S) // Beyond Yoga leggings (M) // UGG Quincy boots (9, but wish I had 8 1/2; size up half) // Pandora necklace

I’m also eyeing up the Asymmetrical Zip-Up Fleece in the white or blush pink, or maybe the faux leather trim jacket in the white. Both are perfect for outdoor gatherings or just walking the neighborhood on a chilly day.

Okay, I know I’ve featured these sweaters a hundred times, but they’re such a good price right now. I’m surprised they’re still so well-stocked. These are the Halogen cashmere sweaters that are 40% off now at Nordstrom — they have a turtleneck, a v-neck, and a crew.

turtleneck (S) // v-neck (S) // crew (S)

I get asked all the time about toppers for special occasion dresses and jumpsuits, and I’ve been coming up short this year. I kept lookin for this Eliza J faux fur capelet, which I have and love, but it was nowhere to be found, and I was afraid they had discontinued it.

Well, it’s back!!!!! Someone in my JLS Insiders FB Group shared it (thanks, Larissa!) and I was thrilled to find that it’s not only well stocked, but on sale as well!!!

Sam Edelman faux fur capelet

Shopbop is doing 20% off $200+ purchases (for Loyalty members only; as with most of these, it is free to join.)

The Mother Superior Tomcat ankle jeans in the Hitting the Pavement wash are included. They’re still quite pricey, but a lot of you liked them, so I wanted to point that out.

There’s a lot of other good premium denim included too, as well as luxury cashmere brands like Equipment, Vince, and the like.

Equipment cashmere turtleneck

And this is sort of random, but Sorel has 40% off all their wedge boots right now.

I have this pair, which I haven’t worn yet this season because it just got cold here, but I will definitely be wearing them a lot! They run true to size, are waterproof, and very lightweight and comfortable to wear all day.

The Must-Have Scarf for Fall/Winter 2020

Cooler temperatures are setting in, scarf weather is officially here! I’ve been asked a few times if scarves are still in style.

Scarves as an accessory category never go out of style, but scarf styles do go in and out of vogue. Right now we’re definitely seeing a shift away from infinity scarves and those big square plaid blanket scarves that were all the rage a few years ago. But scarves are most certainly being worn as an appropriate outerwear accessory.

My go-to fall/winter scarf for the past few seasons has been my grey Everlane cashmere scarf.

In my opinion, it’s the perfect size and weight. It’s a more traditional style, not the super long wrap-up-in-it kind of scarves that are trending right now, but a scarf you can have in your wardrobe forever.

I wear it often — with my leather jacket, with my quilted coat, with a puffer vest, and sometimes just with a sweater when I want a little extra warmth without a jacket. The especially nice thing is, it rolls up and easily stows away in a tote when you don’t need it.

Jo-Lynne Shane wearing VEJA Esplar with AG Raw Hem The Legging Ankle Jeans, black Bernardo leather moto jacket, and Everlane cashmere scarf

This year, Everlane came back with this scarf in a bunch of new colors, and on a whim, I ordered three of them — the cinnamon, oatmeal, and black.

I wish I’d taken a picture of all three together because it was actually the three of those scarves laying together that inspired me to put this outfit together.

(I ended up returning the oatmeal and black, and I kept this cinnamon color.)

I think this picture was probably taken right after the one above it — that piece of hair kept flying my face and driving me nuts, lol!

Anyway, I think this combination of colors is so pleasing, especially for this time of year.

My leather jacket is old, and for some reason, there just aren’t a lot of good similar options out there at the moment. I really like how mine has some moto details, but it’s rather understated without a lot of metal. It’s very versatile.

Here are a few to check out, if you’re in the market for one.

Underneath, I’m wearing the Halogen cashmere v-neck sweater in the oatmeal color, and I added a Victoria Emerson boho cuff.

This sweater just went on sale, and the price is fantastic. It’s definitely the time to stock up!

These are the Express luxe comfort knit black skinny jeans that I styled last week with the pink coat. They have that faded “washed black” look to them that’s very much on trend right now. I like how it makes them a little more casual than an inky black wash.

They run true to size, and they’re also on sale — 50% off!

To complete the look, I wore my Marc Fisher Yale Chelsea boots. They definitely have a bit of an edge to them, but they’re still pretty classic, and also very comfortable.

I often get asked how I tie my scarf. I just wrap it around and put one end through the loop. That’s it! There’s actually a quick “scarf demo” on my Insta Story, if you need to see it in action. I saved it to my highlights.

When I ran out to the mall yesterday, it was windy but not terribly cold, and I wore practically this exact same outfit.

The leather jacket provided a nice barrier while the scarf kept my neck warm, and I didn’t have to futz with a coat. Easy, comfortable, and chic! It doesn’t get any better than that.

Holiday Gift Ideas for Teen Girls

Greetings, friends! It’s time for another holiday gift guide — this one for teen girls! (See all of my 2020 holiday gift guides here!)

one // two // three // four // five // six // seven // eight // nine // ten // eleven // twelve // thirteen // fourteen // fifteen // sixteen // seventeen

If I know about anything, it’s teen girls. (Mine are 15 and almost 18.) I actually went through their personal holiday wish lists to come up with some of these ideas, some are from Amy (she has a teenage daughter as well), and others are just things I thought were fun. Let’s get started!

Holiday Gift Ideas for Teen Girls

#1. American Eagle Fleece Oversized Side Slit Hoodie // My 15-y/o loves her AE hoodies and sweatshirts, and this one is long enough to wear with leggings.

#2. Hello Kitty Hello Tray // A cute way to help them stay organized.

#3. Apple Watch Series 6 // A splurge gift for sure, but I’ve been told tons of the kids at the high school have an Apple Watch… Hmmmmm. We will have to wait and see if Santa is feeling this generous this year, but I thought I would include it in case anyone is looking for a big ticket item to spoil their kids with this year.

#4. Clinque Mini Chubby Stick Lip Color Set // If she likes to experiment with makeup, she’ll love they soft, sheer look of this lipstick. And one thing’s for sure, she won’t have a problem finding the perfect color with all these options!

#5. Slip Pure Silk Rose Gold Skinny Hair Ties // The best hair ties that don’t cause breakage… bonus points for cute packaging!

#6. EZBASICS Sonic Face Cleansing Brush // This is on my 15-y/o’s wish list. If your teens have issues with blackheads and breakouts, this could be a nice idea for them.

#7. American Eagle Oversized Plaid Button Up Jacket // The “shacket is all the rage” with the teens as well as the adults. I like the practicality of it too. Since they don’t like to wear coats, this is the next best thing.

#8. Anker Powercore 10000 Portable Charger // Everyone needs a portable charger, especial teen girls. This makes a great stocking stuffer.

#9. Ugg Ansley Waterproof Slipper // These are the best slippers under the sun. They’re on my 18-y/o’s wish list… and maybe mine too!

#10. Ugg Wanna Checked Fleece Lined Socks // How amazing do these look! Especially while we are all home-bound, cozy socks are a must-have.

#11. Marcy McKenna 2-in-1 Beauty Case // A place to store all of her beauty products… and they won’t be on the counter! I think this would also make a nice gift for a girl heading off to college… ahem.

#12. Hoverboard // I misspoke when I mentioned the Ripstick in my Teen Boys Gift Guide… although they are awesome fun too! We have that as well.

But it was a hoverboard that we gave to R last year that our family had so much fun with. The nice thing about it is, you can use it in the house, so they got to play with it right away, even though it was cold outside.

#13. BP Fleece Short Robe // The perfect short robe – this looks SO cozy, and it comes in a bunch of colors and a leopard print.

#14. Light Up Mirror with Bluetooth // This light-up makeup mirror comes with a Bluetooth speaker so she can listen to her favorite tunes while experimenting with the latest makeup. What could be better!?!

#15. 3-in-1 Charging Stand // How fun is this!? If she has an Apple Watch, iPhone, and AirPods, this charging station is the perfect accessory.

#16. BP 55 mm Blue Light Blocking Glasses // Hours of staring at the computer screen can be hard on the eyes… these blue light blocking glasses will help.

#17. Drybar Double Shot Blow-Dryer Brush // This brush combines the benefits of a blow-dryer with the structure of a round brush for a smooth, shiny, voluminous blowout in one step.

#18. Mr. Coffee Mug Warmer // Perfect for dorm rooms or even their bedrooms if they’re doing remote learning.

#19. 26 Colors Tie Dye Kit with Spray Nozzles // R asked for this kit so she can do some tie dyeing projects. Anything to get them off the screens, am I right!?!

#20. Fuji Film Instamax Camera Bundle // R got this last year, and she has so much fun with it. It’s a great price right now at HSN.

#21. Cannon Selphy Compact Printer // If your child is tired running downstairs to grab a paper out of the printer… or if she is headed off to college, this compact printer is a great solution.

#22. Lemon Furry Earmuffs // My girls always get earaches from walking the dog in cold, windy weather, so earmuffs are a must. These are super cute too.

#23. Pink Acrylic Makeup Organizer // If your teen has as much makeup as mine does, this will help keep it organized.

#24. Pink Acrylic Jewelry Stand // This is a beautiful way to display some of their favorite pieces.

I hope this was helpful! Be sure to check out the rest of our 2020 Holiday Gift Guides, and if you have any amazing gift ideas for teens, feel free to drop them in the comments.

2 Cozy Chic Looks With The Zella Live-In Joggers

This post is sponsored by Nordstrom and ShopStyle.

Greetings, and hello Monday! The countdown is ON. I can’t believe it’s Thanksgiving week already!

Today I’ve got two cozy-chic looks with the Zella Live-In Pocket Joggers. I’m calling it now — one of these will be my Black Friday shopping outfit. They’re both perfect for a day of online shopping with Christmas music playing in the background.

I plan to make myself a giant latte, get Paul to build a fire in the fireplace, and knock out all of my holiday shopping from the comfort of my couch. Who’s with me?

Everyone loves these Zella Live-In Pocket Joggers, and they’re a really good value for the price point. They have a 27″ inseam with a comfortable 11″ front rise and a wide elastic/drawstring waist.

Plus, there are generous front slant pockets that will hold a smartphone, and a small zipper pocket that makes a great place to stash a car key or credit card.

The material is soft yet substantial, and they wash and dry up nicely. I’ve washed and worn mine many times since purchasing them last spring, and they still look like new.

In this first look, I’m wearing these joggers with the Zella Furry Fleece Funnel Neck Pullover.

I love Nordstrom’s Zella brand for stylish activewear at prices that don’t break the budget. This plush fleece pullover is sooooo soft and cozy. I seriously did not want to take it off after we shot this look… in fact, I didn’t. I wore it for a good portion of the day.

It comes in several solid colors and a trendy camo print, but this black/grey sheldon print caught my eye. I love how it pairs with the black pants, and I’ve also worn it with black jeans and sneakers.

I really like the cut of this pullover too, with the traditional shoulder seams and a straight, boxy fit; and the funnel neck helps keep you warm without feeling constricting.

It’s 24″ long in the front and 26″ long in the back, with a split hem. You can layer it over a tank or tee, or wear it right against the skin.

For some reason, this print appears to be suddenly gone from the website! I don’t know what’s up with that. The camo is really fun too, and the solids are nice as well.

I also picked up the Zella Carey Funnel Neck Pullover, intending to keep one of these tops and return the other, but I couldn’t resist keeping both. While they have similar features, they’re still quite different.

This one has more of an oversized/crop fit, with a 22 1/2″ front length and 26″ back length; and I love the horizontal rib texture and the relaxed funnel neck.

I’m wearing the Brown Terrain, but I would call it more of a mauve. It also comes in grey, ivory, navy, and a very pale pink.

Don’t you love how I switched from coffee to wine? Clearly I’m planning to shop alllllll day long on Black Friday. Ha!

Also, pardon the empty box in the background… Seriously, how do I not see these things? #thisishowwereallylive

This top also pairs perfectly with the Zella joggers, or you can wear it with jeans for a casual mom-about-town vibe.

It’s thick and cozy, but not quite as fuzzy-soft as the fleece pullover, and it also fits a little looser, so I like to wear it over a tank top or tee so I don’t feel a draft.

Both tops and the joggers run true to size; I wear a small in all three.

If you’re in need of a loungewear refresh, be sure to take a look at the Zella line at Nordstrom.

As always, when you shop at Nordstrom, you get their free shipping and free returns. And don’t forget about their BOPUS (Buy Online Pick Up in Store) and contactless curbside pickup options.

If you aren’t already a Nordy Club member, be sure to sign up so you can start earning points toward Nordstrom Notes when you shop, and enjoy exclusive perks like members-only access to sales, offers, and events.

I’ll link up these and more of my Zella favorites below.

Coffee Talk 11.22.20

Greetings, friends! I hope you’ve had a good week, and if you’re celebrating, that you’re getting excited for Thanksgiving.

Ours is going to look quite different this year. I will be cooking for the first time ever. That’s right, I have never cooked a Thanksgiving dinner. I’ve always gone to my mom’s or my mother-in-law’s or my brother-in-law’s… anywhere but here. Haha!

I don’t know why, but the idea of cooking a turkey and making the whole Thanksgiving feast intimidates me, which is dumb because I cook all the time, and I’ve roasted a chicken more times than I can count.

Although, now that I think about it, I have a really bad way of undercooking a roast chicken… it seems like it never comes out quite right. Maybe that is why the idea of cooking a turkey makes me want to run to the nearest Boston Market and pick up Thanksgiving dinner takeout.

And truthfully, takeout sounds like a great idea to me, but the kids really want the traditional meal with all the fixin’s, and since we canceled their trip to Grammie’s house, I guess I owe them that much.

Yes, up until last week, we were planning to go home to my parents’ house for Thanksgiving, but due to the way the Covid situation is escalating both here and there, we decided to stay put. So it will just be the 5 of us, for the first time ever.

I have to say, it really seems like the Covid situation is closing in on us. It’s not that I didn’t take it seriously before, but our area was in pretty good shape for much of the summer, and we felt comfortable dining out and socializing with a select group of friends and family members.

But as predicted, it’s getting worse as we head into fall and winter, and more people we know locally are getting it. I’m starting to feel like a ticking time bomb.

For us (I know the situation is different for everyone, depending on where you are located and your personal risk factors) that means it’s time to hunker down and start taking more precautions, both in hopes of avoiding the virus ourselves, and also to help mitigate the spread and keep our hospitals from reaching capacity… which sounds like a very real possibility.

I keep telling my kids, we just have to sit tight and be patient and get through the next few months. Next year will look a lot different… I truly believe that.

We will have big family gatherings again, and travel again, and worship and sing hymns without being muffled by a paper mask… This will end. I even see a teeny-tiny light at the end of the tunnel. We just have to make it through a few more months of this, so I’m trying to do that with as much joy and patience as possible.

In a way, it’s easy for me to say. I have my work to keep me busy, and I’m a homebody by nature. But it’s hard on the kids. They are missing so much, and they don’t have the longterm perspective we do as adults.

And then I think, there are much greater trials than kids being stuck home with their families for a year of their life. I try to gently remind mine of that every once in a while, without totally disregarding their feelings of isolation and disappointment about how many things they’ve missed.

Those feelings are legit, and so I try to help them find a healthy balance between mourning their losses and counting their blessings. All in all, I think they’re handling it pretty well, at least from what I can tell. It’s hard to know sometimes.

On a lighter note… I had the house to myself yesterday, and it was sublime!

Paul took the girls to see his mom (they wore masks and stayed mostly outside…thank goodness for mild weather!) and I stayed back to catch up on things around the house and enjoy some solitude.

I went for a long run in my old stomping grounds. Well, it was long to me these days… 3½ miles. That half matters, too. It’s the first time I’ve run farther than 3 miles since I had to stop running due to that hip/back problem that plagued me for the first half of 2020.

Then I got home and did the whole shower/hair/makeup thing. Even though I wasn’t going anywhere or seeing anyone beyond my immediate family, it felt really good, and I took some time to experiment with that Tarte eye shadow palette I’ve ben using lately.

I got caught up on laundry throughout the day, and I was thinking of wrapping a few presents, but I didn’t have wrapping paper so I ended up doing some work. I said I wasn’t going to do that, but it was so nice to have a quiet house to think and write. I get so tired of hearing voices droning on and on while I’m trying to work.

Other than that, I really kind of enjoy having everyone together at home. We have a big house, and there’s plenty of room for us all to spread out and do our own things, but sometimes I just can’t escape the sound of voices, and it drives me a little bit batty.

And yes, I realize if that is my biggest complaint from this situation, I have it pretty good.

On that note, I need to sign off here and get ready for the day. Even though I ran yesterday, I want to get back out there this morning and take advantage of these mild temperatures while we have them. It’s a little chilly right now, but there’s no wind, so it feels really nice. I’ll probably just walk the neighborhood and listen to a podcast. I haven’t done that in a while.

As many of us head into a holiday week that may look a lot different than usual, I hope you get a chance to take some time off, relax, eat some good food, and enjoy your friends and family… even if it’s via Zoom or FaceTime. Meanwhile, have a restful and blessed Sunday!

Try On Haul: Mostly Denim, Sweaters, and A Few Cute Holiday Tops!

Good morning! Today is my usual Try On Haul day, and I have a lot of pictures saved up!

I also really want to get my Black Friday Sale Guide out to you because sales are starting early, so rather than posting ALL my try-ons, I’ve pulled out my favorites and the ones that are still well stocked, and hopefully I can get my Black Friday post up after that.

I will also call out the sales on the items I’m trying on, so that will give you a preview of some of the great deals out there right now.

I’m hoping to spend some time with my family today, so we’ll see how it all goes. These try-on hauls always take longer than I expect. I would say I’ll try to keep my descriptions brief today, but we all know that never happens! 😂

SIZING NOTES:I’m 5’5″ and 135 pounds, with an hourglass shape. Unless I say otherwise, I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe.

J.Crew Try-Ons

J.Crew is currently doing up to 60% off gift guide ideas, plus an extra 20% off your purchase with code SHOPSALE.

J.Crew Turtleneck sweater in leopard supersoft yarn $128.00 $69.50 (45% Off) + 20% off with SHOPSALE

This sweater is that super soft, stretchy knit, but it’s thick and feels good quality. (Sometimes that type of knit feels really cheap to me.)

The fabric is polyamide/merino wool/alpaca/elastane, so beware if you are sensitive to wool.

I really like the leopard print. Again, some leopard prints look chinzy, but they did a great job with this one, and the shade of the camel color. I also appreciate the generous arm length and the way the turtleneck is soft and not at all constricting.

It definitely has a slightly oversized fit, but it has on-shoulder seams, so it doesn’t add a lot of visual weight to the shoulder/chest area. It’s really good for a relaxed, cozy sweater that looks a little nicer than your typical solid pullover. It runs true to size; I have the small.

VERDICT: Keeping!

also wearing: Good American Good Legs Cropped Skinnies with AGL flats

Turtleneck sweater in multistriped supersoft yarn $118.00 $69.50 (41% Off) + 20% off with SHOPSALE

This is pretty much the same sweater as the one above, but in a stripe.

I think these colors are so cheerful and fun, but I think I like the way the leopard looks better, given the oversized/generous fit.

VERDICT: returning.; I prefer the leopard and I don’t need both.

Also, my AG Farrah skinnies are $50 off and TTS, and these Vince Camuto booties are 50% off, but size up half.

J.Crew Mockneck sweater in supersoft yarn $89.50 $39.50 (55% Off) + 20% off with SHOPSALE

I’ve shared this one before, but I wanted to call it out because it’s also included in this sale.

I kept this evergreen color, and I really love it, especially going into holiday season. It looks Christmassy without being too literal. When everyone else is wearing red, I think it’s fun to wear green!

It comes in TONS of colors, though, and the fit is TTS.

J.Crew Alpaca-blend crewneck sweater $89.50 $49.50 (44% Off) + 20% off with SHOPSALE

I thought this sweater would be nice for layering under vests because of its close fit, and I was also thinking it might work well with the straight crop jeans that I’ve been playing around with.

I also really like the subtle details like extra thick ribbed collar/cuffs/hem, and I was drawn to the gorgeous color choices, so much so that I ordered this wisteria as well as the fuchsia.

It’s definitely soft and comfortable, but it’s just a tad short and snug through the body — and not in a good way. Even with high rise jeans, I feel like it throws off my proportions and looks skimpy. It’s 22″ long in the body, for anyone who pays attention to such matters.

Here it is with a straight cropped style of denim. I definitely like it a little better with these than with the skinnies above… I dunno, it still looks uncomfortably short to me. I think I’d feel like pulling it down all day long.

The color and quality of knit is beautiful, but I think it would be more flattering on someone who is petite with a smaller chest.

VERDICT: returning. I am trying too hard to like it. I really love this color, though. I hope they offer it in a different style.

J.Crew Factory Try-Ons

J.Crew Factory is doing 50-75% off everything, plus Very Merry Deals all week long.

J.Crew Factory Vintage straight jean with cut hem in asphalt wash $22.50 (71% off)

These jeans are sooo soft and comfortable right out of the box. I was really surprised because this style usually comes in that stiffer traditional denim. I didn’t want to take these off.

I also think they’re fairly flattering for the straight crop silhouette. As you all know, it’s not my favorite, but I don’t mind these.

I did feel them starting to stretch out, even in the short time I had them on, so while they are true to size, and fit perfectly in the size 28, I do wonder if I should size down.

Of course, I had to try them with some different shoes and boots. With my P448s

With the Marc Fisher Chelsea boots

And the Vince Henderson boots…. These are on sale again, you guys!

VERDICT: I’m probably going to keep these because the price is so ridiculously good, and they are comfortable as all get out. I’ll let you know if they bag out with wear…

also wearing: Vince wool & cashmere sweater (40% off; size S)

J.Crew Factory Cotton Fair Isle crewneck sweater $39.50 (50% off)

I absolutely love this sweater, and for the price, you really can’t beat it. The quality feels nice — not quite as nice as the “real” J.Crew sweaters above, but close enough.

This print is so cute, and the acorn brown color is perfect for Thanksgiving!

It just has a really easy, comfortable fit, if that makes sense. It fits close to the body without clinging anywhere, the sleeve and body lengths are both very nice — just long enough to be comfortable, but not so long as to look oversized of schlumpy. Perfection!

I’m wearing the small, and it fits perfectly, so I’d say it’s TTS.

VERDICT: Keeping!

also wearing: AG Farrah skinnies ($50 off; TTS) with Vince Camuto booties (50% off; size up half)

Amazon Fashion Try-Ons

Amazon is already running their Black Friday Deals. I doubt any of the items I ordered are included, but if you’re doing your holiday shopping, it’s a good time to check out their current promotions.

Jouica Lightweight V Neck Batwing Sleeve Knit Top $27.99

This sweater comes in tons of colors and patterns, and this is the Wine Red. (The color is more true on the website, everything looks brighter on my iPhone camera, for some reason.)

It’s a nice, soft knit with a relaxed fit, and a little longer than some, which I know a lot of you like. I like the seaming detail down the front, and it has a flattering v-neckline.

The fabric is viscose/poly/nylon so it’s nice for those who can’t wear wool, or if you live in a warmer climate and don’t need heavy sweaters this time of year.

I feel like this sweater is a good value for the price point, and it ships free with Prime. It’s TTS; I’m wearing the small.

I also ordered this sweater in the Khaki Leopard. Again, it has an easy, relaxed fit and it feels soft against the skin. I don’t hate it, but the quality is obviously not on par with the Ann Taylor and J.Crew sweaters in this post.

Still, for the price, it’s a decent value, and it ships free with Prime. Again, it’s true to size, and I’m in the small.

Daily Ritual 100% Cotton Boxy Crewneck Pullover Sweater $29

I ordered this sweater after a few ladies in our FB Group mentioned how much they love it. It’s nice that it’s 100% cotton, but I don’t love the swingy fit on me personally.

This color is really pretty, though, and I like the extra wide ribbing at the collar/cuffs/hem.

I would say, if you want a relaxed cotton sweater at a really good price point, this one is worth a try. It ships free with Prime, and I’m wearing the small.

VERDICT: returning; I have others I like better.

Saodimallsu Turtleneck Oversized Sweater $35.88

I ordered this after a blogger friend recommended it so highly. I wanted to see how I liked it, and if I could recommend it to you all. This is the Khaki — and I thought it was going to be a pretty camel color, but it’s a lot more yellow in person than what is shown on the website.

If you like the oversized/slouchy look, I think this is cute. I like the popcorn knit (I’m not even sure if that’s a thing… I just made it up) with the chunky rolled/ribbed mockneck, cuffs, and hem.

It’s definitely longer than I like, but I know some of you like that, and it can be front-tucked.

The quality is meh, in my opinion. I can’t find the fabric content listed on the website, and it came with no tags or anything. It’s not itchy or super thin or anything, but it doesn’t impress me either.

VERDICT: returning; the quality just isn’t there for me.

Daily Ritual Supersoft Terry Long-Sleeve Hooded Pullover $28

This top is more along the lines of the quality I’ve come to expect from Daily Ritual. It is verrrrry soft on the inside, but on the thinner side, so nice for mild weather.

I really like the design, the way it’s fitted through the body, the curved hemline, long enough to cover the assets… it’s definitely made for leggings.

It runs TTS, or you could size up for a more relaxed fit; and it ships free with Prime.

VERDICT: keeping! Very cute and comfy, nice for stay-at-home days.

also wearing: P448 sneakers and Lululemon leggings

Nordstrom Try-Ons

Nordstrom just started their Cyber Deals, where you can save up to 50% off store-wide. Also, Nordy Club members can earn up to $60 in extra Bonus Notes, depending on the size of your order.

SO MUCH is on sale, I can’t even begin to call it all out, but I do want to draw your attention to the Halogen cashmere — specifically, the v-neck sweater I have in oatmeal and black, as well as the turtleneck and the crewneck versions. They’re all good, and a great value for the price point at 40% off!

Okay, as for my try-ons…

Madewell Donegal Jason Ex-Boyfriend Pullover $78.00 $54.60 (30% off)

I’ve worn this before, but I wanted to give it a full review. It’s a longer fit, with a more slouchy silhouette, thus the “ex-boyfriend” thing, but I like the soft, stretchy knit and the low v-neck. It’s just easy and comfortable.

The color is a little deeper of a rust-burgundy than shown here; the color on the website is accurate. It’s really nice for fall and pairs well with black and blue denim.

It runs TTS; I’m wearing a small.

VERDICT: Keeping! I will probably wear this for Thanksgiving.

CECE Festive Ditsy Ruffle Trim V-Neck Blouse $69

This is not on sale, and it is low inventory, so I’m just giving it a quick mention, but it’s cute, and this brand has a lot of nice, festive tops at decent prices.

VERDICT: probably returning… don’t think I’ll need it. I like it tho!

Michael Stars Elena Boxy Mixed Media Top $98

There is something I really love about this top, and I can’t quite pinpoint it because it is so simple. But I think that’s exactly it. And the fabric is just luxe enough to look fancy without being extra.

(Pardon the dirty mirror!)

It has a satin front and a jersey back, so it’s comfortable to wear all day. It’s the perfect top for entertaining, when you may get overheated… you know how that goes!

The boatneck is perfect — so flattering, but not at all revealing, and the way the sleeves hang… I just love it.

VERDICT: Keeping!

also wearing: Kut from the Kloth Donna black skinnies with Marc Fisher pumps (15% off), Victoria Emerson bracelet, and Pandora necklace and earrings

Kut from the Kloth Carina Faux Suede Drape Moto Jacket $98

This jacket came from Trunk Club, and I thought I’d show it to you in case you’re looking for a lower priced alternative to the BlankNYC suede moto I wear so much. This is the Brandy color.

It has a nice fit and feel, and it seems like good quality. Because it’s the faux suede, it has stretch to it, which is nice. (The fabric is 95% polyester, 5% spandex faux suede.)

It runs true to size; I’m wearing the small.

VERDICT: I returned it; I didn’t love the color on me, but it does come in a few other options, if you like the style but not the color.

also wearing: Boden turtleneck with Mother Looker crop skinnies and Marc Fisher boots (ON SALE!)

Side Note: I cannot believe these booties aren’t sold out yet. I love them, and they’re 50% off! (I kept the Cloud Suede, but I had the Natural Suede at one point, and they’re really good too.)

Reformation Cashmere Blend Sweater $148

Reformation is a sustainable brand that is gaining popularity, and this pullover caught my eye when I was shopping in Nordstrom a few weeks ago.

It’s another one of those tops that is so simple, it almost seems too plain and basic, but there’s just something about the fabrication and the cut…  I couldn’t resist bringing it home with me.

I sized up to a medium for a little more length and a slouchy fit, but maybe I should have stuck with the small. I dunno, though, sometimes it’s nice to throw on something a wee bit oversized.

I will say, this fabric is thinner than some, but again, sometimes that’s nice. You don’t always want a super chunky sweater.

If you live in a warmer climate, this might be a good option for the colder days.

It also layers easily under jackets. I wore it under my AllSaints leather jacket for our family photo shoot.

I’m wearing the grey, but it comes in camel as well as a few stripe patterns. I tried on this pretty Serenade Stripe in the store…

VERDICT: Kept the grey. I like the stripe, but I know I’ll get more wear out of the grey.

also wearing: rag & bone Dre slim boyfriend jeans (size down; 25% off — see more below)

Straight Leg Jeans Try-Ons

Okay, so… back to the straight ankle jeans experimentation. I really don’t have time to deep dive into this today, and really, I should probably just save them all for a dedicated post. But it’s the holidays, and I’m swamped and don’t know when I’d get to that. So! Real quick…

You will notice these are all black/grey. That’s because I find myself gravitating to that denim wash SO much right now, and I was hoping to find a straighter style that I like as much as my skinnies.

rag & bone Dre slim boyfriend jeans in Night Ride $225.00 $168.75 (25% off)

Since I like my rag & bone Dres from the #NSale, I thought I might like the grey for fall/winter. These have the following measurements: 27″ inseam; 13″ leg opening; 9 1/2″ front rise; and I’m wearing the size 27.

You definitely need to size down in these.

They’re very comfortable, I will say that for sure. And the length seems to work with the Marc Fisher Chelsea boots, although they do get caught on them sometimes as I move around. I think I just need to get over that.

I swear, I thought I had more pictures of these… I’m sure I did. Oh, well! I can’t find them now.

VERDICT: Undecided. I think they work, I need to play with them more. I’m just not sure I like that lower rise, especially with the straight crop look.

Madewell Slim Demi-Boot Jeans in Barnsbury Wash $128 + 30% off for Madewell Icons

I fell for these after seeing a (much taller) fashion blogger style them and look amazing in them. When will I learn…

They are very stiff and rigid, which I realize is supposed to be “part of the charm” but I don’t feel like I would grab them as much as, say, the J.Crew Factory ones above that are sooo soft and comfy and already feel worn in. The rag & bone Dre are also a lot more comfortable than these.

The measurements are 27″ cropped inseam, 10 3/4″ high rise, fitted through hip and thigh, 14 1/2″ kick out leg opening. So they are similar in inseam length and leg opening to the others in this section.

I mean, in pictures, they aren’t bad. They do get caught on the back of the Marc Fisher booties, though…

And here they are with the Vince Henderson… not bad!

Again, I thought I had more picture with other sweaters/shoes, but I don’t see them now.

VERDICT: Returned, if I’m going to wear these a lot, they need to be more comfortable.

MOTHER The Tomcat Cropped Ankle Jeans $288

The price on these is ridiculous, I know, but I saw some chatter about the Tomcat style, so I ordered a couple of pairs for experimentation purposes.

While I still don’t love this silhouette on me personally, I feel like these work better with the Vince Henderson boots than anything else I’ve tried. Take a look…

I tried them first with the Leith ribbed dolman. I think the shorter length of this top works well with this style of jean.

I also threw them on with the Sanctuary camo sweater.

Then I wanted to see how they would look with a puffer vest/turtleneck combo… yeah, I dunno. I mean, it works, I guess. It’s all just a bit too masculine or rugged or something.

Also, I’m confused about the measurements. These are supposedly 27″ inseam, 10.75″ rise, 12.5″ leg opening… but the rag & bone Dre (above) look a lot shorter, and also list a 27″ inseam. Also, these same jeans at Anthro list a 14″ leg opening, so I dunno… they do seem a tad slimmer than the Madewell, which I like.

I actually bought these twice, from two different retailers, not realizing they were the same jeans. D’oh! So I have some other pictures from a different day.

I kind of like them with the pink Vince

So far these are the only jeans that don’t catch on these boots or make them look really weird around the ankle area.

I also tried them with my slimmer Aquatalia booties, for the sake of comparison…

They actually kind of work with a cuff too… these booties have a very tall, slim shaft.

VERDICT: I still have these, so I’ll play around with them some more. Not sure I’m keeping… at least not unless they go on sale. But at least it gives me some measurements to work from.

A Few More Random Try-Ons

Banana Republic Relaxed Chunky Turtleneck Sweater $98 +50% off and add’l 10% off with EXTRA10

Banana Republic is doing 50% off everything + 10% off with EXTRA10.

This turtleneck is exactly what it says it is — chunky and relaxed. It’s cozy and cute — not exactly what I’d call figure flattering, but sometimes that’s not the point.

It’s 55% cotton, 23% recycled polyester, 22% polyester — so no wool content, if that’s what you need. For a chunky, cozy sweater, that’s kind of hard to find. I’d say this runs TTS; I’m in the small.

Ann Taylor Fair Isle Sweater $109 (50% off + free ship for cardholders)

Ann Taylor is doing 50% off plus free shipping for cardmembers, and 50% off select styles for everyone else with code SOFESTIVE.

This sweater caught my eye because I thought it looked so festive and fun for the holidays, and it’s a slightly classier take on your average fair isle sweater.

The colors are black and gold, in case you can’t tell… a lot of times people tell me blacks look blue in my pictures.

I will have to say, I wasn’t as thrilled with this sweater as I’d hoped to be. It fits kind of small all over, and it’s also quite short. I guess I should have realized that, as the length is listed as 22 1/2″ on the website.

Anyway, I would want to size up if I were to keep it. Otherwise, it’s a beautiful knit and really nice quality.

VERDICT: returning; I don’t love it on me.

also wearing: Kut from the Kloth Donna skinnies and Everlane loafer mules

And I think that’s a wrap! Whew! And I’m even done by 10am. SCORE!

I always have a time that’s my end goal when I start one of these posts, but they usually take twice as long as I plan for.

Pastel Holiday Look with Express

A big thanks to Express and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post!

Happy Friday, friends, and cheers to another weekend! One more week till Turkey Day… it’s hard to believe it’s already here. Of course, we’ve been decorated for Christmas for a week, so in a way, it’s almost weird that we still have Thanksgiving ahead of us.

Speaking of Christmas, today I’ve got a pastel holiday look from Express. Who says holiday outfits have to be red and green? Plus, it’s currently 50% off during their Black Friday Sale that launched today!

This look was actually inspired by this cozy plaid brushed fringe scarf. I just love these shades of blush, ivory, grey, and taupe.

I also appreciate that this scarf is long and narrow. There’s plenty of material to wrap around your neck, or you can let it hang, depending on the look you’re going for and how cold it is outside.

The wool blend car coat I’m wearing is the cocoon style that’s so popular at the moment, and it’s fully lined, with a one button closure and flap hand pockets.

I think this dusty pink is so fresh and fun for winter, and it pairs perfectly with all my favorite neutrals. This coat also comes in grey, and it runs true to size; I have the small.

Underneath, I’m wearing a monochromatic look with a cozy mock neck dolman sleeve sweater and high-waisted washed black skinny jeans.

I can’t get enough of neutrals lately, and I really like the mix of tones and textures in this look.

This ribbed dolman sweater is soooo cozy. It’s a nice, thick knit with some really nice details, and it looks good untucked or with a half tuck.

It comes in four luscious neutral shades. I’m wearing the beige, but I’d say it reads more as an oatmeal grey. The knit is a polyester/nylon/spandex blend, so it’s perfect for those who can’t wear wool, and it runs true to size. I’m in the small.

I’m also wearing the Express luxe comfort knit skinny jeans. These jeans feel amazing against the skin. They’re made of an innovative knit material that’s super soft and stretchy, but they hold their shape really well and are extremely flattering.

In fact, when I got out of the car for our photo shoot, Alison immediately asked where I got them and commented on how much she liked them.

You know what a denim snob I am, and I’m seriously impressed by these jeans. I knew Express had a good reputation for affordable denim, but these far exceeded my expectations.

They have a 28” inseam and about a 10 1/2″ rise, and they run true to size. I have the 6 regular.

These block heel sock booties keep the look event-ready with their pointed toe and 3 1/2″ heels, but they’re also remarkably comfortable.

They have a padded footbed, and the stretchy fabric has a lot of give so they don’t rub or constrict. They run true to size, as well.

Finally, I added a little bling to this polished meets cozy look with these twisted rope chain hoop earrings.

You can also see the details on the sweater a little better in this shot.

We may not have as many events and occasions this year as we usually do, but an outfit like this can work just as well for casual stay-at-home gatherings as it does for dinner out on the town.

The sweater and jeans are so comfortable, you might as well be wearing sweats, but you still look chic and put together for whatever may come up.

And if you do have an occasion to go out, throw on this gorgeous pink coat and add the plaid scarf for an effortless date night or holiday party look.

Pandora Jewelry for Holiday Gifting

A big thank you to Pandora Jewelry and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post!

Continuing with my week of holiday gift ideas, today I want to tell you about the Timeless Jewelry Collection from Pandora.

Also, every Friday this month is Black Friday at Pandora, so today (and also from 11/24 – 12/1) you can save 35% off your entire purchase, excluding Star Wars products.

You may know Pandora for their iconic charm bracelets, but they offer so much more.

They have necklaces, earrings, and rings, as well as a variety of bracelet styles with unique stone cuts and classic lines to add a little bit of sparkle to the everyday… and who couldn’t use a little bit of sparkle right about now??

I particularly love their collection of stackable rings. You can wear them all on one finger, or across multiple fingers to create a look that’s uniquely you.

Here, I’m wearing the Sparkling Snowflake Double Ring with the Princess Wishbone Ring, the Sparkling Wishbone Ring, and the Sparkle & Hearts Ring.

I also layered their Snake Chain Bracelet with this delicate Sparkling Pavé Bars Bracelet. It has rigid bars decorated with smaller clear stones set between larger blue ones, and I chose some charms for the snake bracelet with the same blue stones to coordinate.

I love how all these pieces work together to create a jewelry look that’s timeless and sophisticated without being too matchy-matchy.

Pandora also has gift sets that come boxed and ready for gift giving.

I’m wearing the Sparkling Snowflake Stud Earrings and Sparkling Snowflake Collier Necklace. Both pieces feature sparkling clear cubic zirconia set in the shape of a star-like snowflake, and are hand-finished in sterling silver. Aren’t they lovely?

Of course, you can also wear them separately and mix and match with other jewelry in your collection if you’d rather not wear them as a matching set.

Whether you’re looking for the perfect pieces for your own holiday styling needs or a thoughtful gift for a special loved one on your list, be sure to check out Pandora’s Timeless Jewelry Collection. Shop these and more of my favorites below.
