21 Days of Summer Fashion: Pink Tiered Hem Linen Tee

Greetings, happy Friday and happy first day of JUNE! I’m so excited to launch 21 Days of Summer Fashion with my good friend and partner-in-style, Cyndi Spivey! Over the next month, we will each post a new outfit every weekday for your summer style inspiration.

Nothing says summer quite like pink and white, so I’m kicking off our summer style series with a casual pink and white outfit that is the type of thing I like to wear when I’m going out to run errands or to meet a friend for coffee on a warm summer day.

This tiered hem linen tee is as easy to throw on with a pair of jeans as a plain t-shirt, but the details level up your look and make it more sophisticated and interesting than a basic tee.

The puffed sleeves and a ruffled woven inset at the hem give this top a feminine touch, and I also like how the split neck and side slit hem add interest.

This top runs true to size; I am wearing the small, and the fit is perfect. If pink isn’t your thing, it comes in a ton of great summer colors, and it retails for less than $50.

These deconstructed crop jeans are some of my summer favorites. Yes, they’re spendy, but I’m going on my third summer season with them, and I wear them at least once a week in the warmer months. On a cost per wear basis, I’ve definitely gotten my money’s worth.

I know not everyone loves the distressed look, but I think these have the perfect amount — there are no gaping holes, but the texture adds interest and keeps the look casual as white jeans tend to lend a dressier vibe. I also like the released hem on these for the same reasons.

SALE ALERT >> Buy more, save more on a large selection of items at Bloomingdale’s with code SAVEMORE. Take $25 off when you spend $150-$249, take $50 off when you spend $250-$399, take $100 off when you spend $400-$699, or take $200 off when you spend $700 or more on a large selection of items. Offer valid online only, June 1, 2018.

These jeans occasionally go on sale, and right now you can get $25 off at Bloomingdale’s. I realize that’s not a HUGE discount, but it helps. I recommend sizing up one from your largest “normal” size in these jeans. For reference, I’m 5’5″ and 140# and wearing size 30.

Then there is this bag. I fell in love with this woven straw clutch during the Shopbop sale last month, and I knew it would make the perfect going-out bag to pop my summer outfits.

You certainly don’t have to be wearing pink to carry it — it would be lovely with neutral outfits as well — but when I saw how well it matched this top, I knew they belonged together.

I kept my sandals neutral. I like how they work with the colors in the bag, and also how they fade into the background and allow the pink and white in the rest of the outfit to pop. Also, neutral shoes will always elongate the leg and give you a longer, leaner appearance.

FYI, Bloomingdale’s does not carry the Makeup color, but the Miller sandals they do carry are included in their BUY MORE, SAVE MORE sale.

Finally, I repeated the white from the jeans with these white hoop earrings. These were a J.Crew sale purchase at the end of last summer, and I don’t wear them often, but every once in a while, they’re the perfect accessory to level up an outfit.

Also, the eye typically goes to the lightest color in an outfit, which in this case is the white jeans. Repeating the white with the earrings helps to draw the eye up to my face so it doesn’t remain glued to the widest part of my body — my hips. #methodtothemadness

I think this outfit is a good example of high-low fashion. The shoes and jeans are quality summer wardrobe basics that I can wear so many ways, and they will stand the test of time — I expect them to be in my closet for three to five years.

The top and bag will definitely be a part of my summer wardrobe for several seasons, but they won’t get as much wear as the jeans and shoes. They are memorable pieces that I will add to my rotation to keep my looks fresh, and after a couple seasons, I’ll probably pass them on to make room for newer purchases.

They all come together to create a fun summer look that is both modern and classic and can be worn for a variety of purposes.

  1. Love this outfit, Jo-Lynne, partially because I love wearing pink.  I think this is one of the tops I bought from Nordstrom Rack, but I chose the blue.  Even though it said to hand wash, I laundered on the delicate cycle then line dried it.  Sure hope it still fits!  We are actually starting off with sun today & a nice breeze, but the humidity will make it feel like the upper 90’s later, and the chance of storms returns.  Have a beautiful Friday!  I hope that Paul is feeling better!

  2. I love this outfit. Love the bright pink, which seems even brighter because of the white jeans. Purse is adorable too. That has inspired me to add some bright colored tassels or pompons to my basic straw purse!

  3. Perfect outfit to brighten up this otherwise gloomy PA day!   Loving that straw clutch, what a great pop of color & pattern.  I just happened to purchase a pink t a few weeks ago!  I rarely use a clutch, but after seeing this outfit, maybe I’ll look for a budget friendly one!  Will you be starting a Pinterest board for the 21 Days Of Summer Fashion?  Have a great weekend!

  4. Jolynne! Help, I’m not getting your daily emails anymore, yikes!! Have missed you all week. Maybe has something to do with the new ‘rules’ you talked about. I did following those links and updated?? Oh well, can you add me back on to your daily email, LOVE reading your posts every day. Great summer outfit, love the pink! I found your link thru Cyndi this morning, yay. 🙂

    1. I am having the same problem I have went in and checked the boxes and submitted over and over … still not getting emails

      1. Hey Rhonda, I just checked your profile in MailChimp, and it says you’re opted in and subscribed. That said, it has not sent you any emails since 5/24, which is odd, so please let me know if you do NOT get my email today. Hopefully you got it fixed yesterday after that email went out, and it will come to you today.

    2. Hi Nancy, I checked your profile in MailChimp, and it says you submitted the form to subscribe but did NOT check the Opt-In box. I am so incredibly sorry for this hassle. I hate these stupid new rules. I am not allowed to have it pre-checked. Everyone has to check it off themselves.

      Here is what to do.

      1. Click this link to my original email notice about the opt-in: https://bit.ly/GDPR_opt_in

      2. Click the big red button at the end.

      3. On the next page, make sure the newsletters you want to receive are checked (daily or weekly), and then you ALSO need to check the box under Marketing Permissions that says, “Yes, I want to receive your emails!”

      4. Then click UPDATE PROFILE at the very bottom.

I hope that works for you, and I am so sorry, again, for the inconvenience.

  5. I tried that tee on back in the spring. It’s so cute. I should probably just go on and buy it. I love the hot pink and have been looking to add some to my closet. Happy weekend! XO

  6. Love the outfit. I’ll have to find some earrings like those to wear with my white jeans. One of the downfalls of my hair is that earrings get lost, those won’t!

  7. Thank you so much for your shoe advice😄 I’m sticking with neutral snakeskin slides!! I love pink and white together. The white earring advice is so helpful, I never thought of that before but I’m buying some asap. I carry my weight in my hips and thighs but love white shorts😍

  8. Love the pink and the clutch is adorable and matches perfectly.  Nice way to start the summer series. Have a great weekend:)

  9. I need that clutch!  You always look so put together and I love it when you and Cindy team up for the seasons. Really like your outfit today and looking forward to the rest of the series!

  10. Love this outfit and have the less expensive pair of white jeans in my cart now 😊
And I found a very similar white Sanctuary top at TJMaxx but can’t decide if I’m keeping it because the material is kind of thin and a bit see through but it was only $24.99.

  11. Such a cute and fun outfit! I love how much the clutch adds to it too. I should have snagged this top last month when it was on such a great sale at L&T. Love it.

  12. This outfit looks great on you! Thank you for explaining the high/lows and how to keep it fresh.

  13. I wear a lot of white bottoms (jeans, shorts, skirt) in the summer and I love your white earrings trick. Thanks for teaching us something new!
