21 Summer Outfits for Women Over 40

Greetings and hello Monday! I love a new week with all of its possibilities. Today I’m sharing the 21 summer outfits from my 21 Days of Summer Fashion style series so you have them all in one place if you care to access them.

This series was a fun one for me — partly because the weather was cooperative. Even though we had a rather cool start to summer, that was actually nice when I was shooting multiple outfits at a time and changing my clothes in the car!

This is also the first fashion series I’ve done where Alison took all of my pictures. I like the consistency of style, but it was also great not to have to edit my own pictures! That saved me a lot of time in a busy season of life.

Looking over these pictures is really telling. At a quick glance, I can see which outfits are the most flattering and which ones fall a little flat — and some of the less flattering outfits are ones I thought I liked. Of course, sometimes it has to do with my stance and the angle of the picture, but I still think it’s a pretty interesting comparison.

Let’s break it down.

I’d love to hear which ones were your favorites. I always find that interesting.

Thank you for all of your sweet comments about my new house yesterday. I read through them all this morning, and that was fun. I love your ideas too!

I’m heading over there shortly to meet with the painting crew — they’re going to be painting the first floor and up the stairs into the upstairs hallway. Then we’ll tackle the bedrooms and bathrooms on our own. I cannot WAIT to see the space transformed.

Have a great day!

  1. Favorites: 1, 12,13, & 18! Overall, I think this was my all-time favorite series, Jolynne! Thank you for all this effort during this busy time! And your new house is beautiful! Congratulations! Can’t wait to see what color paint you chose!

  2. Great series !!,,
Love them all and could recreate with
    many I already owned!
    Closing today and movers soon…
    We are in this together
    God is so good!
Can’t wait to see transformation of your
    House!

  3. I’d be interested in which ones you ended up not liking as much once you saw them all together, and the why’s behind that. I like the variety (even if you did forget a work pant look!)

  4. I really enjoyed this series and how you mixed it up with pants, dresses and shorts.
    My favorites are 1, 7, 14 and 19.
I love your whole house but  especially the kitchen island, the entryway and the backyard space! Can’t wait to see the difference some fresh paint on the walls makes!
I love painting interior walls and did  all of the rooms in our current home that needed painting  myself. The main challenges were painting over  a red master bedroom wall and a black guest room wall!

    1. Yeah, I don’t mind painting, but there was too much here to do myself… if I want it to be done before I retire. Ha! We will be doing the bathrooms and bedrooms, although hopefully my brother in law will be coming to visit and helping with some of that. 🙂

  5. This was a great series, Jo-Lynne. I liked so many of your outfits. I know a lot of bloggers and women in general love shopping for fall and winter the most, but i really like and prefer summer clothes. They’re so colorful, light and fun!

Have a great time with your house. I know you’re glad to have some major cleaning out of the way and be on to the decorating. How fun! Blessings to you!!

  6. My overall favorite is #7. That dress is gorgeous! I wish I had something to buy it for. I also like #12 but more for the fall for weather in my neck of the woods. And although not “you”, I like #21. You really helped to make Bermuda’s look great! Thanks for a great series. How do these go by so quickly!?

  7. 7 and 9 were my favorites but I really liked them all. That dress on you is just perfect!!!

  8. This was my favorite series that you’ve done so far–it was really good! My faves were: 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 14, 15, and 19. Good luck with everything today–I enjoyed in your Instastories that kitchen progress was a clean kitchen w/the Keurig ready for use! Have a good one!

  9.  Great series !  I love all the black and white! Enjoy your new transformation. Its so exciting!

  10.  All really great outfits!  I think my favorites are 1,5,7,8, and 21.  Enjoy the painting process today!

  11. This was a fantastic series. Reading the other subscribers posts, I noticed no one commented on #10, the pedal pushers. I did not even know these could be purchased, but I will certainly be adding some into my summer wardrobe. I would also be interested in which outfits you didn’t like as much when you saw them all together and the why’s behind that.

  12. LOVE number 15!  (Waiting for it to go on sale!!). Also love 7, 8, and 9.   They are all great though. Thank you for the inspiration!

  13. I love #7 and #13 but don’t rule out the peddle pushers. You look great in then. I prefer them to shorts in the city.

  14. Thank you Jo-Lynne for all your ideas, and the time and effort you put into this series. You always provide so much detail about your outfits and of course reply to our comments:). My favorites were #5, #8, #12. It’s not that I didn’t necessarily like the others I just related better to these. I also really liked the stripe maxi dress , and the SEA sweater with denim shorts and the coffee t-shirt ( they may have been more Instagram though) but I still really liked them. Have fun with the painting. So exciting to see things begin to transform before your eyes.

  15. Great outfits as always! My favorites are 7, 8, 10, 14, and 15. You look gorgeous in the black and white TH flared dress. I also really like the pedal pusher outfit with the red wedges. It’s perfect for a casual day paired with the wedges.  I also think the pedal pushers are versatile where you can dress them up with stilettos, a silky tank top, necklace, and a fitted blazer for a date night or a girls night out.  I am not really seeing how some people see them as frumpy but maybe it’s because my image of a pedal pusher is a relaxed/loose fitted pair of pants while yours are fitted presenting a polished casual look.

  16. My favs are 1, 4, 7, 13, 15 & 20. I’m not a big fan of short, shorts anymore and feel more comfortable in longer ones or a dress. Of course, my white, cropped jeans are in regular rotation.
I enjoy seeing them all together.
Let us know which ones you like the best, as you look back on them. Interesting to know.
