26 Days of Fall Fashion: LOFT Chunky Two-In-One Sweater

Happy September, friends!

It’s here!!! The 2nd annual 26 Days of Fall Fashion has arrived!

I’m teaming up with Cyndi Spivey over at Grace+Beauty once again to bring you a new outfit every day this month (except Sundays) for your fall style inspiration! To celebrate, Cyndi and I are giving away a $100 LOFT gift card, so be sure to read to the end for details on how to enter!

Fashion Over 40: Kicking off fall fashion with this LOFT Chunky Two-In-One Sweater, AG Super Skinny Jeans, and Tory Burch Heidi ballet flats!

To kick off this year’s 26 Days of Fall Fashion, I’m styling this Chunky Two-In-One Sweater from LOFT. It also comes in a gorgeous Adobe Rose, but I was drawn to this Dark Smokey Blue for some reason.

When I went to style the sweater, I was wishing I had khaki colored jeans or skinny pants. I think they’d look fabulous with this, but I can’t even find any to link to so I guess they’re not in style at the moment. I ended up wearing dark wash skinnies, but I also like how it looks with the lighter wash jeans on the LOFT website.

It has that built-in woven shirttail hem for the layered look without the bulk of layers. I’m a huge fan of this trend because I hate bulky layers.

Nothing says fall fashion like a chunky sweater!

Here’s a look at the back. Also, for size reference, I’m wearing the small. The medium was a little roomy and seemed to add extra bulk, but the small is a little snug in the shoulders… so it was a hard call. I hope it doesn’t shrink!

I almost wore ankle boots, but I really liked how the TB Heidi Flats in Pewter Snake complimented my silver necklace, so I ended up going that route instead.

These flats were a Nordstrom Sale purchase, and for some reason, they’re back down to 33% off. If you missed them the first time around, here’s your chance! I do recommend sizing up a half size in these.

For a lower-priced leather ballet flat that is incredibly soft and comfortable, I highly recommend the Sam Edelman Felicia Flats. I swear, they’re like wearing slippers. I have them in Classic Nude, and I wear them a ton during the spring and fall. I also have the leopard version. LOVE!!!

This Tory Burch Convertible Leather Crossbody Bag in French Grey goes so well with these shoes that I find myself always wearing them together. I like how they don’t match exactly but they are complimentary shades of grey.

This Tory Burch Convertible Leather Crossbody Bag is 50% off at Nordstrom!!!

This bag was another Nordstrom Anniversary Sale purchase. It went back to full price for a while, but yesterday it got marked 50% off… and it promptly sold out. Womp, womp!

There are other Tory bags in the French Grey pebbled leather, though. It really is stunning and goes with so much. Plus grey is supposed to be the trendy neutral to have this fall. This Pebbled Leather Tote (pictured below) is 50% off. And the Thea Tassel Tote isn’t on sale, but it is a stunner. I’m also a huge fan of this Thea Foldover Crossbody. Yes, these bags are spendy, but they are the kind of bags you will carry for years. Plus, Christmas is coming… just sayin’!

(I am really shocked to see all these #NSale items on sale again. I wonder if they were expecting them to sell out and they didn’t? Anyway, lucky you! If you regretted missing them the first time around, here’s your chance!)

These are my AG Ankle Super Skinny Jeans that came from Trunk Club. I’m a huge fan of AG. They are slowly replacing DL1961 as my favorite premium denim brand. I really like how they flatter the rear view.

For a similar pair for less, these Joe’s Ankle Skinny Jeans are on sale for $99. I have tried them on, and they’re very similar to the AG, but the leg opening is slightly wider. If you have bigger calves, you might like the Joe’s better. For an even more budget-friendly version, take a look at these Articles of Society ‘Sarah’ Skinny Jeans for $59.

I accessorized with this layered Tiburon Necklace from Stella & Dot. It can be worn three ways. Gotta love that! Next time I wear this sweater, I’ll put a cami under it so my necklace lays better in front. I hate it when long necklaces sink to the middle.

This is the perfect throw-on-and-go outfit. It’s super easy and comfortable, but it looks put together and chic.

  1. I also hate bulky layers an am a huge fan of this look! I love the blue on you and think it would even look good with grey denim. Thanks to you and Cyndi for kicking off another season of outfits!

  2. I loved this outfit the moment you put it on Instagram. The colors are gorgeous and pair so beautifully together. You happen to look fantastic too! Love your hair and those jeans look amazing on you. This is definitely a favorite of mine. 🙂

  3. Great colors on you and perfect for early fall weather….if it ever gets here 😉 Looking forward to seeing what you and Cyndi style throughout the month. Love that you give so many other price-point options!

  4. Love this classic and simple outfit. And I enjoyed your intro!
Some days are like that- if you didn’t laugh, you’d cry! Hope today is better.

  5. Love this! I love your attitude about Thursday, I had an equally awful Wednesday and will adopt your Thursday philosophy!

  6. Eyed this sweater just Monday when I stopped in at LOFT during my lunch hour. May need to go back and purchase it! Thanks for your comment on the bag/shoe combo! Appreciate it!!

    1. I had written this post already when I read your comment on the OTHER post, so I thought you were talking about this purse/shoes combo. LOL. So if you got 2 emails from me with 2 slightly different comments, that is why. 🙂

  7. So sorry your Wednesday was such a stressful day! Good for you for choosing to laugh instead of cry!!
Love that sweater….such a stunning shade of blue! I wonder how it would look with burgundy or rose colored skinny jeans??? I bet it would look amazing with white skinny jeans, too. I’m with you – I do not like bulky layers, but I like the look of layering so this sweater is a perfect option to get that look.
I’d love to see you style some cute/casual fall dresses with boots during the 26 days of Fall Fashion!
Hope all of your kiddos are feeling better soon so you can go enjoy that spa day treat!

  8. Love this color blue and do keep in my closet always. I have definitely had those crazy days like your Wednesday when my three children were at home. They are now grown and have children of their own and go through the same. Life goes on ????????????. All we can do is Pray and Laugh. B
Oh looking forward to you and Cyndi’s fall fashion.

  9. I love shopping at Loft. Love the blue top you styled today. I am petite 5′ 28″inseam. Which would look better the straight leg jean, skinny or boot cut? Love your blog! Have a great day!”

  10. So glad to see the fall clothes. It has been so hot in Atlanta. I am ready for a cool down! The sweater looks great on you….love that shade of blue. Hope you have a better Thursday. I was one of those 80…just deleted them and went on about my day. Figured you had some sort of a glitch!

  11. Wow, what a day! Glad you got your problem figured out. Hope the rest of the week is smooth for you! Love this sweater.

  12. Glad you got all the email issues solved! I’ve been getting 2/day, the same one, for awhile. Love your outfit today! Looking forward to seeing some low heeled booties and how to style! Hope today is better!!

  13. Thank you for the fashion tips! I’m looking forward to your fall and winter style advice as I am moving from sunny Savannah, GA to Nashville, TN in November. Obviously, flip-flop weather nine months out of the year has led to my wardrobe being pretty sparse for cooler/cold temperatures.

  14. Hoping today is much better! That reminds me of a Mother’s Day one year when I was up all night with sick kids and one thing happened after another. All I could do was realize with a sense of humor how ironic and very true “my Mother’s Day” was that year.

  15. I love the ballet flats. Must have. Hopefully they will go on sale. I’m looking forward to seeing on trend colors for the fall.

  16. I bought a couple of really cute roll-up type twill pants at SAMS yesterday. I bought the grey and army green color, but they also had khaki. They’re made my Woolrich. They fit great and are very comfort. $20 each.

  17. Thanks for bringing your readers tasteful and yet fashionable outfit ideas. I love reading your posts for updated outfits. And I like learning about your family! I am also a runner and can relate with the over 40 injuries that can literally pop up! Thanks for continuing to keep us in style❤️

  18. I love the sweater! It caught my eye as well the other day at Loft. You do such a great job showing us how to wear the trends! I am looking forward to seeing OTK boots styled.

  19. I love this look and cannot wait to see all the fall styles you and Cyndi share! I am hoping that blanket scarves will be back again this year and would love to see one styled by you this season. I have a couple that still have the tags attached as I just haven’t felt confident enough to go out in one yet. They always seem too bulky and awkward on me…I just don’t think I have the styling quite right yet!

  20. I have loved this sweater on you from the first time you posted it on Instagram! Such a great fall look. I also hate the bulkiness of layering so this is a perfect solution. I do wonder if the knit of the sweater is even a bit too chunky for me. I find that (being large chested) chunky knits add a lot of bulk. Looking forward to all your September fall outfits!

  21. I love, love, love the sweater. My favorite time of the year is fall because it begins sweater weather. Sooooo tired of the long, hot summer here in the south.

  22. What a great attitude you have about your stressful day. My kids are grown now but I do remember THOSE days! God Bless!

  23. So excited to see the 26 Days of Fall from you and Cyndi! Love this sweater – and the color! Maybe a ‘boho’ inspired look? 🙂

  24. I love that smoky blue, and the layered look as well! I’m really looking forward to seeing what you and Cyndi have in store for this fall collab.

  25. That color is stunning on you. And I agree… I think khaki would look fabulous with it!!! MY hAve to get this for myself!!

  26. Thanks for giving us a bit of your personal life, too. Makes me feel like there’s someone out there that can relate….& you look good doing it, to boot! You’re inspiring. 🙂 Hope the kids feel better soon!

  27. Thanks for recommending the Sam Edelman flats. I have had them recommended to me by 2 other bloggers, so your recommendation finally made me order them!

  28. Love the color of the sweater, have you tried it with either white skinnies or maybe even off white/cream? And a tan bootie for fall? Looking forward to all 26 days (:

  29. I absolutely love this look! I actually have a very similar sweater/shirt…even in this color. This look will be so simple to duplicate. Thanks!

  30. Cute outfit! I’m so ready for fall, but unfortunately I think it will be a while before it reaches us here in the deep south. I’d love to see how you style boots with dresses or skirts for fall and winter.

  31. The sweater is such a pretty color! I would wear it with black jeans also. Love to see some fall workout wear styled this month

  32. I am loving this layer look trend too! Wearing another version today, actually. I would LOVE to see fall dress options!

  33. Very cute! Does the shirt tail have to be ironed? I find I don’t wear my combo sweaters, if I have to iron the shirt tail every time it’s washed.

  34. I can recreate this outfit from similar items in my closet. Thanks for the inspiration! I have a few items I would like to my fall wardrobe (just purchased a moot jacket at Penney today) so will definitely check out Nordstrom sales!

  35. Yesterday sounded pretty awful. But the way you wrote about it made me laugh!
Yesterday afternoon, I looked up one of your posts from earlier in the month. So when I started receiving posts from several years ago, I thought that was why. I did enjoy seeing pictures of your children when they were very young! ( I opened one,not realizing they were older posts.)
I hope your kids are on the mend. You look beautiful as always!

  36. Lovely color on you and I love the gunmetal gray accessories. I’m looking forward to being inspired by your Fall Fashion picks!

  37. Glad things are getting back to normal (kids, computer, school). But good to know nothing was majorly serious. Your day reminded me of what we just read in our bible study group – James 1:2 “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.” And love the blue on you – it’s not the same color we see all the time. Fresh!

  38. I am new to your website and am loving the practical clothing. I have decided to makeover my wardrobe. I am looking forward to the rest of the 26 days of fall fashion!

  39. I love the Sam Edelman Felicia Flats and have had my eye on them for some time, but they are a bit spendy for me! Do they ever go on sale?! Thanks!

  40. I love day 1 of the fall series…such a cute sweater! I will have to order that one. I really like less layers an you look so cute in it. Would you say it’s pretty loosely woven or more on the tighter side? I hope today is a better day for you and that your kids feel better soon!

  41. Looking forward to some new fall fashion ideas to change it up a bit! Love this Loft sweater – for the exact reason you said – the built-in woven shirttail hem for the layered look without the bulk of layers!

Hope the kids are feeling better soon!

  42. Beautiful outfit! Love the two in one top idea. Except when I have a hot flash, I will have to be careful not to forget and strip… but then again maybe with it being lighter… I won’t have the hot flash!

  43. Love those shoes! Looking to all of the fall looks this month from you and Cyndi! I’d love to see cute ankle boots and scarves!

  44. I am excited for the 26 days! Although it is still so hot here in the south. Certainly ready for some fall temps!

  45. I just ordered this sweater in rose. I think it will go great with olive green pants. I’m loving these colors for fall.

  46. Thank you so much for including Loft purchases. I wear petite sizes and The Loft has the best petite styles. I always struggle with accessories. I am such a minimalist. I have a hard time wearing earrings and a necklace at the same time! It’s a big day for me when I do. I would love to see accessory choices for someone who would like to step out and add a little more. Jazz myself up a bit!

    1. I am the same. I love my diamond earrings for wearing with larger necklaces. (Any studs will do, or fake diamonds… whatever.) I don’t ever go without earrings, but I don’t like them to compete with my necklace.

  47. Hoping the rest of your week improves and you and your family can enjoy the long weekend. Love the sweater – and the necklace. Looking forward to the rest of the 26 days of Fall Fashion from you and Cyndi! Thanks!

  48. I like the layered look without the bulk as well. Thanks for the tip on wearing a cami to make the necklaces lay better!

  49. I have been looking forward to the fall fashion preview and was not disappointed with today’s blog post! Thank you for the inspiration!

  50. The color of the sweater is beautiful! You look great! Always like to see a military jacket styled since I wear mine all through the fall season.

  51. Hi, this color looks great on you! I would love to see ideas how to style a black moto jacket for fall. Hope your kids feel better and your household gets back to normal!

  52. You’ve had quite the week so far! Hope the rest of it is less eventful for you. It’s hard to think about fall in this heat. I may be interested in different ways you wear rain boots, I think they’re high on my list of things to buy since I have a 3 year old 🙂

  53. I love that sweater! Thanks for the inspiration! I’m looking forward to seeing how to incorporate some fall jewelry trends (like tassels) into my wardrobe. I haven’t been able to pull off the tassel trend yet but I haven’t given up!

  54. Best blog post ever! Made me remember some crazy days when I had kids at home and I wondered what else could go sidewise in a single day. Thanks for sharing. Keeping it real and looking cute in that outfit!

  55. I’ve been loving your blog! I just hit my one year anniversary of following you (and Cyndi). I feel like I’ve gained so much confidence with your help. Thank you, thank you! Tomorrow can only get better–right? Get a rain check on your spa day!

  56. I still struggle sometimes with what outfits look best with booties – and it seems those are everywhere these days! I look forward to seeing what type of outfits you style with booties throughout the month.

  57. I like the idea of the chunky sweater with the built in shirt, but I don’t really like this one. I like all of your accessories and the outfit as a whole, but just felt the cropped bottom of the sweater with the 3/4 sleeves made it look out of proportion….sort of like the top was too small.
It’s not your figure, or your styling, I think the top is just off!

  58. I would like to see some cute fall dresses styled. So sorry to hear about your Wednesday; I hope the rest of your week has been better.

  59. Excited for the Fall Fashions. I always love to see the looks you are wearing. This outfit is darling on you! Bummed the TB handbag sold out!

  60. I am so looking forward to the fall series from both you and Cyndi! Love this time of year. Thanks for the inspiration and great looks.

  61. Not sure how I missed this post the first time around since I check in daily! I was looking forward to seeing booties styled for fall and you did that today!????Thanks!
