3 Fall Looks from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Greetings, friends, and cheers to the weekend! In case you’ve been living under a rock and hadn’t heard, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is now open to the public! If you’ve been waiting to shop, now is the time. You can see all my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale coverage here, but for today’s post, I’ve put together 3 fall looks from the sale to whet your shopping appetite.

In case you haven’t been following along, Nordstrom hosts their best sale of the year every July in honor of their anniversary, and you can get outstanding savings on new fall merchandise along with plenty of things for summer. This sale is unique because it’s the only time when you can shop brand new arrivals at discounted prices (for a limited time). After the sale ends on August 5th, the prices go up!

I’m not wishing summer away, but I always think it’s helpful to see the clothing you’re shopping for on real people, so I got together with Alison last week and shot a few looks to share with you.

Mad About Plaid

Rails plaid shirts and AG jeans are almost always included in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and they’re usually among some of the first items to sell out because they’re so good. Unfortunately that happened again this year and both of these pieces are low inventory, but keep an eye on the website for restocks. I’ve seen sizes popping back up here and there as I’ve been working on this post.

This shirt is soft as butter, and it feels so good against the skin. It comes in a variety of colors, but I love the feminine pop of pink with the more grunge look of the plaid flannel. Rails shirts typically run small, so I recommend sizing up. For reference, I’m wearing the medium.

AG jeans are my all time favorites, and this pair with the darker wash and split ankle is really fun, but they seem to run a tad small. If in doubt, you may want to size up or order two pairs to compare.

I’m also wearing one of my favorite shoe purchases from the sale. These booties are super comfortable with their padded footbed and 3″ stacked heel. For the price, you can’t beat these booties. They also come in a khaki snake print that’s really fun.

Mom Uniform

I love this combination of olive, white and black for fall. I typically prefer cardigans that are more fitted, but I fell in love with the laidback vibe of this swingy cardi. It’s a nylon blend with a hint of cashmere so it’s extremely soft and lightweight. It comes in 5 great fall colors, and you’ll definitely want to size down in this one. I’m wearing the small, for reference.

These jeans were on my wish list from the moment I saw them in the sale catalog, and I was excited that I liked the fit when I tried them on in-store. They work great tucked into boots because they fit snug to the leg, but I also love the raw hem, which I wish you could see in these pictures. I’ll be sure to style them again soon with loafers or ankle boots.

I have to keep stopping myself from dubbing every item one of my favorites, but these knee-high suede boots are so on point. I just love everything about them — the shape, the fact that they’re waterproof, the comfortable memory foam-cushion footbed, and the rich black suede against the wood stacked heel.

I’m seeing a lot of knee-high boots in the Nordstrom Sale this year, and that makes me happy. I love a good OTK boot, but I think knee-high boots are easier to wear, and they flatter practically everyone.

Ladies Who Lunch

cardigan // v-neck tee // utility skirt // booties // satchel

I shared another version of this outfit last week, but this time I wore a pink cardigan and swapped my sandals for ankle boots.

I was immediately impressed with this BP. sweater — in fact, I first took it for the pricier Leith ribbed cocoon cardigan. You’re definitely getting a lot of bang for your buck with this piece. It comes in 6 colors, and I like them all, but I was particularly drawn to this pink cedar. It runs fairly true to size, but if in doubt, size down.

I wore it over a white v-neck tee (not on the sale, but this one is, and it’s good too) and with this green utility skirt. This skirt is a great wear now and later piece, and it also comes in camo and grey. I like how the booties give the look more of a fall feel.

This satchel is also a part of the sale, and I’ve been carrying it constantly. It’s a great everyday size, and the texture is sophisticated and adds interest to any basic outfit.

  1. Jo-Lynne, all three of these amazing looks have made me yearn for Fall!  It is my favorite time of year when the weather just begins to cool off and we can get out our cozy cardigans, and football is on, and the kids are back in school, and the smell outside is all crisp and fresh!  Seriously, that is the image that these outfits just conjured in my head!  I love all of them!

  2. You look great in all three outfits, but my favorite is the one with you wearing the plaid shirt.  I may have to look into it, since that definitely fits my lifestyle and where we live.  I hope that your back is feeling better today!

  3. All 3 outfits are a hit! You look fabulous. I bought the flannel. The colors are so flattering and uplifting. Love the cardigans too, but I have too many already.

  4. Love, love all three outfits!  My stylist put me in this same Rails look two years ago and I’m so happy to see it remain a fall staple!  Hope you’re feeling better!

  5. I got that BP cardi too and it.is.good. I think I like it better than the Leith one I got last year since the pockets aren’t right at my hips. (and I loved the Leith one) That plaid shirt is so cute, but I just can’t bring myself to spend that much on one. I do love it though and it looks great on you!!!!

  6. I love all these looks, but the olive and black combo is my favorite! I wouldn’t have thought to pair the black knee boots with the black skinny jeans and it looks really fantastic!

  7. Oh I loveee the plaid outfit so much! It’s not often we see you in these, but they are some of my faves from you! Aren’t those AG jeans fantastic? I ordered them along with several others, and there is no question which ones I’m keeping (so far – I have one more on the way to try).
Y’all have a blast at the beach!

  8. ha! I laughed at your comment on lol and emoji. My kids always know it’s me texting by the emojis. My husband wouldn’t dream of adding one. Well.. I like them!
Fall is my favourite time of the year. The kids go back to school and parents to work and the world settles into place. Everything seems less busy. I can put my bikini away (not) and put on cute booties and a jean jacket or cozy sweater. Fresh, comes to mind.
Love you in the first pic! I’ve never worn a plaid shirt but love it on you. My girlfriend is the master of plaid. But, I always feel like I should be chopping wood or bringing in the hay when
    I put one on.

  9. All 3 looks are fantastic! My favorite is the second outfit, I can see myself recreating it.

I hope you have a great time at the beach!

  10. I love all three outfits on you, and you look gorgeous in each.  But, you totally rock in those AG jeans and flannel shirt!  I swear you look like you’re in your 20’s!

  11. I like all three outfits but the first one with the blue plaid shirt is my favourite. I hope that your back is feeling better today. Have a fun beach holiday!

  12. Love the plaid shirt and olive with black color combo. However, I don’t care for that olive green skirt. It seems so very dated. I’m really surprised to see you in this. I don’t think it flatters your shape. The outfit doesn’t look sharp and put together. Maybe it’s just me…..

  13. I had to laugh when you said no one says “ANYWHO” anymore…..cuz I’m guilty! 😂 Along with using tons of emojis and using LOL! My 22 year old told me recently that “selfies” are out now too….uh, doesn’t look like it when you open Instagram!
Love the Rails plaids! Can’t have too many IMO.

  14. Love the outfits, although the Rails shirt/jeans is my favorite. I finally bought a Rails shirt when we went into Nordstrom last weekend. I’d decided I wanted to try one on rather than just ordering. Sadly, as soon as I touched it, I knew it was going home with me. 😉 I’ve returned three of the items that I ordered online, and now am debating about ordering another Rails shirt in a different plaid. 😀 (Btw, also guilty of using too many emojis, lol.)

  15. Love the outfits-you always look great!
Maybe you could pre-order your groceries and have them delivered to you when you get to the beach.  Just a thought—have a wonderful vacation!

  16. Hi!  Totally not fashion oriented question…but here goes.  I was in Amsterdam the last 2 weeks.  I saw your insta story about your guest room.  Love the bed!  Can you post the link for the bed please?
Have an awesome time at the beach…make lots of memories!

  17. Hi Jo-Lynne,   Love all these looks.  For the jeans and plaid shirt look, the Booties that you are wearing are so cute!  Do they have a pattern on them?  It doesn’t look like it, but the ones they link to have scale like pattern.

    1. Hey Jackie. Mine do not but the other color had a snake pattern. Both are really cute. The ones with the snake pattern are more of a khaki, and mine are more grey.
