3 Ways to Style Burgundy Jeans: Black Cowl Neck Sweater

Happy hump day! I’m back today with the second post of three ways to style burgundy jeans.

I mentioned before that I’m a huge fan of a sleeveless cowl neck sweater for fall, and I picked this one up during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. It also comes in grey, ivory, and pale pink, but I was drawn to the black.

This sweater is nice for warmer fall days because it’s lightweight and breathable, and I suppose you could wear it over a long-sleeve tee when it gets cooler. For size reference, I have the small and it fits perfectly. I love that the armholes aren’t too low.

It will obviously go with just about any color denim, but I always like black paired with burgundy for fall. These 7 For All Mankind raw hem ankle skinny jeans are another #NSale purchase. They have a really comfortable fit, and they wear well throughout the day. They’re back on sale too, for 33% off.

I’m having trouble finding a lot of similar options for less. The Caslon pair I was linking to is almost sold out, but Old Navy has a pair of their mid-rise rockstar skinnies in a pretty shade of burgundy. If you have any other recommendations, feel free to let us know.

I finished the look with these peep-toe stacked heel booties. I love these for a transition shoe. I’ve worn them a couple of times lately.

I don’t love how the hem of my jeans gets caught on the high shaft of the bootie, but there’s really no other good option. The jeans didn’t look right when I tried cuffing them so I just let them fall where they may.

I carried a black shoulder bag and accessorized with gold to coordinate with the hardware on the bag. I don’t always feel the need to match my jewelry with the hardware on my handbag, but with this one I usually do because there’s so much gold going on and it’s a large part of the reason I love the bag. I wish it weren’t sold out. As usual, I’ll ink to some other options I like in the shopping widget at the end of the post.

These are my Maui Jim Moonbow sunnies in the White Tokyo/Black Gloss/Grey. I love how they compliment the black top.

I should have worn a black bra under this sweater. Ooops! Otherwise, I love how this outfit came together. This is the sort of thing I like to wear to church or to go out to dinner with friends, and I’ll dress it down with black ballet flats or loafers for an everyday look.

  1. Very cute outfit and I love the color combination. You might consider cutting an inch off the jeans since they are already frayed lol. Cindy has those same boots in taupe and I don’t know how she does it to get all her pants and jeans to fit just right over the top of them?

    1. I really like the length, though, with just about every other shoe. 🙂 I really like they way they look with skinnies. Cyndi is an inch taller than I am, and sometimes she cuffs hers. These boots are extra tall, and it does create a bit of a challenge.

  2. I think Articles of Society had a burgundy pair of skinny jeans during the NSale. They may have been raw hem too.

  3. Glad I’m not the only one who struggles w/ where the hem/cuff should go in relation to the shoe! (Oh, problems!) You did great, as usual. Have a great day! 🙂

  4. Great job as usual Jo-Lynne.  I never have purchased a sweater tank, as just didn’t seem practical, as in Fall here its either too hot or once it cools down my arms get too cold.  But, always looks great on you.

  5. I love the color of the jeans. They will look beautiful for casual Holiday parties. The sleeveless sweater is great for me as my body temp is variable. I can always grab a black shawl or cardigan.
    Love this look.
