5 Wearable Spring 2014 Fashion Trends

Despite the snow on the ground and the sub-freezing temperatures, spring is on its way. I am sure of it. I HEREBY DECLARE IT TO BE SO.

Spring always seems to take FOREVER to arrive here in the northeast, but for some of you, spring will show itself shortly so let’s talk about spring 2104 fashion trends.

I’ve been feeling the winter wardrobe rut setting in lately. As much as I love boots and layers, I’m anxious for springtime and ballet flats and sandals and short sleeves. I’ve been perusing the fashion mags this week, and here are a few of the trends I’m excited about this spring.

5 Hot Spring 2014 Fashion Trends

Pastels

It’s been quite a few years since pastels have been in vogue, but this year pastels are about the hottest trend going. Pair icy blue, blush, violet and mint with white or black for a classic but updated look.

Wide Leg Trousers

After a few years of skinny jeans and cropped pants, the wide leg trouser is back. This ladylike style is universally flattering, just make sure you wear the right height of heel. Your pants should fall exactly a quarter inch off the floor. If your trousers are dragging on the floor, you will look sloppy, but if they’re too short, you’ll look frumpy so your tailor is your friend.

Midi Skirts

Think Marilyn Monroe circa 1955, but keep it modern by pairing it with a cropped top to offset the length. With fuller skirts, always tuck in your top so you don’t “lose” your waist.

Florals

Florals are here to stay, at least for another season. Keep it from being too sweet by pairing with a slightly more edgy jacket or shoe.

Bucket Bags and Structured Satchels

Always my favorite topic . . . handbags! This year it’s all about the bucket bag. But structured satchels are still hot too. I always prefer a structured bag for ease of use.

  1. So excited that spring is finally here, I LOVE spring! I haven’t ever really been a pastel wearer before so I’m looking forward to experimenting with some pastel colours this season – particularly baby pinks and maybe some mint and soft blues too! Thanks for the great tips. The wide leg trouser look is very chic too so will give that a go too 🙂

  2. I look hideous in wide leg trousers. And winter is crippling me. I sit at my desk every day huddled over a cup of coffee wrapped in a Snuggie. My style is being stifled by the fact that we can’t break 35 degrees around this joint. I miss California passionately.
