5 Under $50

Good morning! I got back from Nashville after dark last night, and I’m feeling a bit sluggish this morning, but it’s good to be home.

The kids and I watched the pre-show to the Oscars and about the first half hour of the awards before I turned in for the night. I haven’t seen any movies up for nomination (except for Zootopia, lol) so the show really didn’t hold much interest to me apart from the fashion. I always love seeing what the actresses are wearing. Who was your fave?

I absolutely loved Emma Stone’s dress, her hair, makeup, everything. She was the epitome of old Hollywood glamour. Should I see La La Land? I’ve heard mixed reactions.

My other favorite was Nicole Kidman. She always rocks it on the red carpet, and last night was no exception. I also thought Laura Dern looked amazing. I love her dress.

So today I’m kind of scrambling for a post. I’m trying to save the outfits I’ve photographed for my spring series that starts on Wednesday, so I thought I’d put together a 5 Under $50 post today.

5 Under $50

These are all products I’ve ordered recently that I love and recommend, and each is less than $50 including shipping. They’ve all been personally vetted, and I think you’ll like them too!

5 Under $50 // Spring Favorites Under $50

#1. Twist Front Cozy Fleece Pullover $44 // This is a great little number for these early spring days when you want to ditch the heavy sweaters but it’s too cold for short sleeves and sandals. It comes in three colors — the blue I’m showing here, as well as grey and lavender. It’s fleecy and cozy, but the 3/4 sleeves keep it from being too wintry, and the little twist detail in the front adds interest and so it’s not a basic sweatshirt. I recommend wearing a casual, longer pendant with this top to elongate the upper body and break up the plain front. This top runs true to size.

#2. Pewter Leather Flats $43 // I was thrilled to see these comfy leather flats marked down to $43!! They’re also available at Amazon for $47, and there are some other color choices there.

#3. Pink Lipstick // In the spring and summer, I like to go with a more pink lipstick shade, so I just ordered this one in Pink Nouveau at the recommendation of another blogger. I’m a huge fan of MAC lipsticks, so I know I’ll love how it goes on and feels on my lips. I’ll let you know how this color works out. I realize not everyone can wear pink lipstick, so bear that in mind, but for me and my coloring, I feel like going with a pink lipstick this time of year looks fresh and youthful.

#4. Flat Cross Body Handbag $29 // I ordered this from Target because some of you have asked for more affordable handbag options, and I’m really impressed. It almost feels and looks like leather, and it’s a nice size for everyday. The style is on trend, and it comes in a lovely cognac (the one pictured above) as well as black, mustard, and grey. I’ll be styling it with an outfit soon!

#5. Ruffle Sleeve Tee $35 // I ordered this last week, and then when I was shopping with Cyndi over the weekend, I saw it in the store and tried it on. It is super cute and on trend. I LOVE those sleeves. For size reference, I have the medium. According to the size chart, a M=4-6 in this brand. It will be so cute front-tucked with a pair of jeans and ballet flats (like the pewter ones here!) or Converse for a more casual look.

And that’s a wrap! I’m off to unpack and get myself organized for a new week.

I hope you have a happy and productive Monday!

  1. I just put that ruffle sleeve top in my cart, oops! 😉 I’m not huge on ruffles or frilly details, but this one isn’t too over the top. Did you by chance see the white in the store? Wondering how sheer it is…

Those are great flats too! I managed to snatch them up from a huge LB sale last month for $24! I love that they don’t tie but still resemble a lace up. Not too bad on comfort either!

  2. I’m glad you and Cyndi had a great weekend, again this year! This is a great post for those of us on a fixed budget. Because I have another order on its way from Belk, I have to refrain from ordering any of the items in your post. One of the items I got is a pair of palazzo pants in a b&w vertical pattern. I’ve ordered a white top to wear with them, but am wondering if I should also try a top in another solid color, like red or royal blue. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

  3. Ordered the shoes. Dangerous way to start a Monday morning, but couldn’t resist! 🙂 Thanks for helping to keep me out of the frump zone.

  4. Look forward to March 1. Even though in Savannah we have not had a real winter I am still excited about spring fashions. Always like to see how you put things together. You and Cyndi are the best.

  5. Looking forward to the Spring Style series! You and Cindy are my favorite fashion bloggers- love both of you and your work. I like this concept post of five under fifty- it’s a cool format to again deliver ideas for an entire outfit. Have a great day!

  6. Hi,
I was going to buy the ruffle sleeve tee but I was confused b/c I’m a med. but that is usually size 8 and this top said that it was 4/6, and I’m def. not a 4! LOL So does it fit tight or loose? Do u think I should go up to a Large? Thanks.

    1. You may want the large. I do think it has an odd sizing. I tried on the large in the store and it was okay, but maybe a little large. The medium came in the mail and it fits well, but I tend to wear a small if in between sizes, so all that to say, maybe try a large? It is the type of top that doesn’t have to be exact, but you don’t want it too tight. I’d err on the side of going bigger. It looks good with a front tuck b/c it is kind of long.

  7. Jolynne! So glad you and Cyndi were able to have a great weekend and do what you love!
I enjoyed the post today, too! I LOVE that ruffle T from Nordstrom, but I am also wondering how sheer it is? Which color did you choose?
I like the white but I have a gazillion white tops! But I love the white!
I also love the shoes. I am off to find the other colors on Amazon ???? I love shopping in my PJs! Thanks again for the ideas, today!

    1. Hey Cary. That tee is thin. I saw it in the store and picked up the red b/c I thought the white would be too thin. If you don’t mind wearing a tank under it, you’ll be fine, but that kind of bugs me. I hate the feeling of layers.

  8. Great post! Thanks for the suggestions. While I love the designer and higher end brands, for trends I don’t like spending a whole lot of money.
I didn’t and don’t usually watch the Oscars but I highly recommend Hidden Figures. It’s a wonderful movie! I suggest you take your daughters as it’s very empowering for girls and women.

  9. Thanks to my personal shopper, Jo -Lynne! Who needs Trunk Club when I have you? I snagged the pewter shoes and red ruffle top (ordered both the xs and small to see which one fits best.
Have fun unpacking new clothes today. ????

  10. So glad you and Cindy had a great time and can’t wait until Wednesday for spring fashion! I do have a question. I snagged a pair of suede, open toe, booties for $8 last summer (yes-$8). They are close to the color of the CND nail polish “denim patch” – maybe a little darker but they are not navy. I don’t have a clue what to wear them with! Any ideas? I appreciate your help! Have a blessed day!

    1. Hey Susan, I just got a pair in a similar color. I think I will wear them mostly with white jeans… I’m not even sure what on top – maybe grey or beige? I know you don’t only have to wear them with blue and neutrals, but it’s tempting. I’m such a plain jane.

  11. I’m glad you gals had fun in Nashville. I love meeting up with people who do what I do! Not many people get it; and I’m sure you run into that same feeling. So when you can get together and speak the same language…bliss!

I loved La La Land and would have liked to have seen it a second time, but missed my opportunity. You do have to go into it realizing it’s a musical and different. But once you get that, it’s just a lot of fun! Pure fun!

I didn’t watch the Oscars last night because I’m tired of the politicizing and such, but I’m taking a peek at the dresses today! 🙂

  12. Glad you had a good trip. Your picks on the blog are great. I almost ordered the white t shirt with ruffle, but wasn’t sure how sheer it is and decided I didn’t need another shirt. 🙂 BUT…..I can see ordering it later. 🙂 As for the Oscars, I usually never watch them from start to finish. I’m with the other lady….I get tired of the politicizing. I wish they could just let it go and have an enjoyable evening of fashion and movies. I highly recommend HIdden Figures. It was a really good movie. My husband really liked it too. 🙂 I want to see La La Land, but now its only playing at a theatre an hour from me. I’ve heard its really good. I also want to see the movie Lion, it looks good. Anyone see that one? If you like a pinkish tone lipstick, but not over the top pink, I have worn MAC lipstick in the “Syrup” color for years. I really like it. I sometimes put a sheer lipgloss over it too. Enjoy your day and we all are excited for Wed. with you and Cyndi. 🙂

  13. I love the red carpet. It’s the best part of any awards show, IMO! Matt Damon’s wife looked amazing. Of course, she doesn’t get much shine since she’s not an actress but her dress was my favorite. Also, love the twist top. I’m thinking that could be good to help camouflage my “still look 5 months pregnant” postpartum belly! The bag is really cute too for a budget piece.

  14. I like this post! Budget friendly with several items to choose from and your personal opinion. I would like to try pink lipstick but need help with the best shade for me. Glad you had a nice trip!

  15. Really enjoyed this post. I ended up buying the ballet flats on Amazon in a different color. I had a gift card to use! I really like the ruffle sleeve shirt too, very cute.

  16. I am with you on Emma Stone. She was gorgeous. Happy that you and Cyndi were together for the weekend. Jealous. Love both of you. Love the purse. May have to make a stop at Target tomorrow.

  17. I highly recommend La La Land, Lion, Hidden Figures and Manchester by the Sea. The 4 are totally different, but captivating movies! Just go into Manchester knowing it is sad continually and yet has great acting and shows the needs of every human. La La seemed goofy at the beginning, but was very fun and entertaining!! Hidden Figures and Lion are true stories and inspiring and great drama!
Love the purse and twist top! I’ve never tried Mac lipstick, but may have to soon!

    1. Thanks for all the input! I can’t wait to check them out. I went to college 5 MINUTES from Manchester By The Sea, and we used to go to the beach there. 🙂 I have been wanting to see that movie for that reason alone.

  18. I ordered the ruffle sleeve top and got it today. What great service for my first Nordstrom order!! It shipped from the next state over lol. I got the large, it pulls a teensy bit across the front, but I really like it overall. I got a different brand top in an XL and found it to be too loose, so I think the size chart on their site is pretty good! Hoping my new top fits even better once I get myself off the couch and back on the exercise wagon.

    1. FUN! I hope you enjoy it. With a top like that that’s a little snug thru the chest, I find if I put my fists up inside my shirt (while it is on) right where the, ahem, girls go, and push it out a bit to stretch in that area, it usually stretches out enough that it lays better and doesn’t look like it’s tugging. I do that when a shirt is just a little snug – especially after washing if I feel it shrunk up a bit. Hope that helps! 🙂

  19. Ordered the ruffle shirt, the twist top and the shoes with the thought that something would not work. The ruffle shirt is adorable (ordered the large usually a small), the twist top is like wearing pajamas (ordered the lavender…hint of springy), the shoes are adorable and so comfortable. Your blog is dangerous. I love Nashville so glad you guys had a nice time. Where did you guys shop there. My daughter just moved down there so it will probably be a regular destination.
