6 Beauty Products You MUST Try Right Now

I’ve been wanting to write this post for an age. I have actually been wanting to write a post on each of these products, but I can never seem to find the time. I don’t know what it is about beauty topics. It’s like I have a mental block about posting them. I think it’s because I want to have gorgeous creative photography to go along with them, and I just don’t really have the eye for it. If you follow any beauty bloggers on Instagram, you know what I mean. This is my best attempt.

Beauty Buzz: My favorite new beauty products 2015

That’s my daughter’s bedroom throw rug. I really need to get some props so I don’t have to pilfer my 9-year-old’s stuff!

So let’s just get down to brass tacks. Because what you really want is the information, right?

These are some of my recent beauty product discoveries that I think you should know about.

6 Beauty Products You MUST Try

1. It Cosmetics No-Tug Waterproof Gel Eyeliner

Best of Beauty: It Cosmetics No-Tug Waterproof Gel Eyeliner

A few months ago, I noticed my eyeliner was starting to rub off on my eyelid, and after a few hours I would have an awful smudgy crease going on. My 12-year-old daughter even mentioned it and suggested I do something about it. (She’s nothing if not blunt.) I also noticed that my eyeliner would disappear over the course of the day, and by the end of the day, I looked like I was barely wearing any makeup. I really dislike liquid eyeliner, so when I read about this It Cosmetics No-Tug Waterproof Gel Eyeliner on another blog, I ordered it on the spot.

Problem. Solved.

It’s a gel, but it looks and acts like a pencil. It glides on easily, and because it rolls up, you don’t need a sharpener. This stuff is my new BFF. It doesn’t transfer onto my eyelid, and it doesn’t disappear over the course of the day.

2. Sumita Cosmetics Brow Pencil

Best of Beauty: Sumita Cosmetics Brow Pencil

This is another retractable pencil (yay for no sharpeners!) but this one is for your brows. The folks at Sumita sent me several products to try out, and this one is my favorite. It goes on easily and stays on all day long and doesn’t smudge at all. It’s a bit thicker than the brow pencil I’m used to, but overall I really like it. It is an oval shape, so you can turn it to get a finer line when you want that, or a thicker line if you’re filling in sparser brows. I also really like their Brow Wax for keeping your eyebrows in place.

3. Gillette Venus Swirl

Gillette Venus Swirl Razor

I’ve never been picky about my razor. I always bought the cheapest disposable razors I could find, but when I read about the Gillette Venus Swirl on another blog, I decided to order it. You guys. This is a game changer.

Before I discovered this razor, no matter how carefully I tried to shave, it would never fail that I’d get out into the sunlight and notice a few stray hairs I’d missed — usually around my knees. Drove me nuts. The Gillette Venus Swirl has a FlexiBall that moves in multiple directions and contours to tricky areas like the knees and ankles for a flawless shave. It is amazing. No more stray hairs. Hallelujah!

4. Dove Dry Shampoo

Dove Dry Shampoo

This is another “where have you been all my life?” kind of product! My daughter has been asking for dry shampoo for ages. She has super thick, curly hair, and it’s a real pain to wash it. She’s been wanting to try dry shampoo to give new life to her hair on days 2 and 3 so she doesn’t have to wash it as often, so we picked up this bottle of Dove Dry Shampoo at CVS last week.

The other day, I didn’t want to wash my hair, but it was looking really flat, so I went in to her room and grabbed her dry shampoo to give it a try. I AM IMPRESSED. I was able to blow out my hair again and wear it another day. I’ve never been able to do that. I am sold. I will have to buy her another, because I’m never giving this one back.

5. Pür Minerals Lip Lure

Pür Minerals Lip Lure Hydrating Lip Lacquer

I’ve been getting into a bit of a lipstick rut, so when the folks at Pür Minerals asked if I wanted to try their new Lip Lure Hydrating Lip Lacquer, I was all about it. They sent me several colors to try. These are designed to achieve bold color with flawless shine, and I’d say they deliver. You have to click it 15-20 times the first time you use it to get the color into the applicator tip, but once you do, you only have to click it once or twice each time you use it. It goes on smoothly and easily, it feels moisturizing, and it stays put for hours. It’s my new favorite.

6.  CND SolarOil

CND Solar Oil

I wrote about this before, but I wanted to include it in this roundup in case you missed it. I apply this stuff morning and night to my cuticles, and my nails have never been healthier.

So how about you? Have you made any new beauty product discoveries lately that I should know about?!? Dish!

Disclosure: Sumita Cosmetics and Pür Minerals sent me some product samples to try with no strings attached. All other products were purchased by me. As always, all opinions are my own!

  1. I purchased the Solar Oil the last time you mentioned it. I have horribly dry cuticles and I love the way this product is absorbed into my skin. It is a keeper! Thanks Jo-Lynne.

  2. I love these kinds of posts. There are so many new products out there to sift through, but it’s nice to get some tried-and-true opinions from someone in my age group! We’re not all about wrinkle creams! (But if you find one that works…..)
    😉

  3. I use the CND Solar oil the same as you–morning and night. I will NEVER be without it. The Sumita eyebrow pencil sounds exactly like one I have from Smashbox, which I love. Do you use eyelid primer? I find it really helps with the eyeliner problem. There are many good ones from prestige cosmetic brands but I also like Elf brand which I buy in Target for $1.00. One product I was really disappointed in is a self sharpening lip liner from Smashbox. At first I thought it was so great because it was always sharp and came in several good colors but 2 out of the 3 broke and were unusable in a month. Big waste of money.

    1. I have used eyelid primer off and on. It does seem to help with creasing, but I still didn’t have any luck with it for the eyeliner copying onto my lid. I think I have been extra greasy this summer or something. I haven’t tried the lip liners from Smashbox. I do have one I like from It Cosmetics, though. I probably should have listed it here. https://bit.ly/1Jh8RDN

  4. I like Covergirl Lashblast Lengthening Mascara (yellow tube) for my bottom lashes. I have long lower lashes, and I don’t want to leave them bare (which is what I used to do because: raccoon eyes), but I just want to slightly accent them. This does the trick for me. The brush gets right to the lash-line, and puts just enough product on to color my lashes. I haven’t had any difficulty with flaking or transferring. I don’t mind using volumizing mascaras on my top lashes, but usually find them too clumpy for my bottom ones.

    1. Interesting! I also have long lower lashes, and I try to do one light layer of mascara (with the volumizing kind that I use on the upper lashes) but I totally know what you mean. I’ll have to pick up that Covergirl and give it a try.
