A Dressed-Up Summer Kimono Outfit for Work or Church

Remember when I posted this fern kimono with shorts a few weeks ago, and I told you it would be back styled in a dressier summer kimono outfit for work or church? Well, it’s back. And bonus, it’s 30% off today!

This time I decided to wear the kimono over a white-on-white base. I love wearing a cardigan over a white top with white jeans, so why not a kimono? After all, a kimono is sort of like a summer cardigan.

This kimono is super lightweight and flowy, and the muted color palette is perfect with white.

When I shared it before, I was asked if it slips off the shoulders. I’m not sure how to answer that. I mean, it is sort of supposed to…that’s part of the charm!

It may slide back some, but it doesn’t fall off because it has armholes. Also, if you wear a t-shirt with sleeves (as opposed to a tank) the material of the kimono sort of sticks to the shoulder area of the tee, which helps it stay in place.

I’m wearing a white tank and white jeans underneath, and my ankle strap sandals are the perfect neutral to coordinate with this muted color palette.

These sandals are 30% off and come in 4 colors. I love this blush leather, but the ivory and tan are really nice too, and the snakeskin is fun and on trend. They run a little big; I recommend sizing down half in these. I have a 7.5.

Otherwise, they are verrrrry comfortable and walkable, especially considering the heel height. The straps are soft against the foot, and the block heel provides plenty of stability.

For size reference, I’m wearing a medium in the tank and a 29 in the jeans.

And isn’t this beaded stretch bracelet perfect with this kimono? It’s like they were made to go together.

I’m also wearing the gold stone station bracelet I wore with this kimono last time.

I bought them together, and I think they work together beautifully so I just kept the pairing in tact.

    1. LOL, I don’t know. It does look weird in these pix. I think it just needs an iron — they had just been washed. It’s a regular zipper and looks fine in person. 🙂

  1. Love this look. I have two kimonos and I love them both but don’t wear them as much as I should. I tend to save them for special more dress up occasions. (I live a pretty relaxed laid back lifestyle). But I need to just get them out and put them on. This outfit really inspired me to do that. I’ve already thought of two times this coming weekend I’m gonna just go for it.

    1. Me too Sharon……I don’t know why I keep saving to wear it. I have one almost exactly like this one Jo-Lynne is styling. I’m expired now too.

  2. Very pretty! I really like the kimono over the white tee and jeans. And the painted wall in the background coordinates really well with your outfit!

  3. This is something I have and would wear except with flats. I have 2 kimonos from loft . Thx for the idea of wearing a short sleeve shirt underneath so that it doesn’t fall off your shoulders. That might help. I think I feel sloppy in them.

  4. I bought this kimono through your site and love it. I wore it out with a white short sleeve tee (had no trouble with slipping) and gauzy wider leg pants in a very light beige. Also wore cork wedges to give the outfit a little more height. Definitely would be office appropriate. It would also look great with a white knit midi or maxi dress and wedges. Love how you can have a second layer with this in the summer.

  5. I love the white on white and the touch of soft color in the kimono to top it off:) I really need to try a kimono as my daughter wears them a lot. They can really dress up just a simple plain outfit. By the way the backdrop for this post was perfect 👌. I’ll send some sunshine your way. Our June has been great so far  ( sunny and warm) very much unlike our May where we saw very few nice days.
    Have a good one

    1. Yes please!!! We need it. We’re going on day 5 of gloom and doom. It’s so depressing. I wish it would just go ahead and RAIN. We could use it, and if it’s going to be cloudy and humid, it might as well water my plants. Ha!

  6. I really like the canvas of white top and white jeans! It helps me see what I will look like when I choose to wear my topper. I have a light weight “safari” looking top by G by Guilliani. I just bought the mirror you mentioned on QVC. Thanks again for the shopping widget! I got the Leopard mirror!

  7. What a beautiful background for your pictures today! I love the colors in the kimono. I have one in navy and white colors I bought at LOFT a couple months ago, but maybe I need this lighter one too?! 😉
Btw, I bought the blue side tie top you styled from Lord and Taylor and while I love the color and style, it is super short on me (fell right below my belly button). In fact when I tried it on my 23 year old son said it “looked like a kid’s top” 😂 I’m debating reordering it in the size medium. What size were you wearing? Maybe I’m just too long waisted for it.

      1. So I realized yesterday that I shouldn’t order from Lord & Taylor anymore. The cost of returning that $28 top is $10.00! And there aren’t any stores here in CA to return in the store so I’m out of luck. I’m going to offer it to a petite friend of mine.

          1. I’ll have to read up on shop runner. I see their ads but don’t know much about it. Does it offer free shipping and returns from all stores? It seems everyone but Nordstrom has really tightened up return policies (30days at most stores now and not always free to return).

          2. I know, I have to be really careful so I don’t go past that 30 days with some stores.

So ShopRunner only works with stores that are ShopRunner eligible — the ones that come to mind are Ann Taylor, Bloomies, L+T, and American Eagle. I already get free shipping and returns as a Bloomies Loyallist, but ShopRunner’s free shipping is faster – it comes in 2 days.

The store’s return window still applies, so still 30 days at AT, but it does give you free returns as well as that super fast 2 day shipping.

Here’s the link – https://members.shoprunner.com/home. (I don’t benefit in any way from sharing about it… except that people might shop more readily from my links if they have free shipping and returns, ha!)

  8. Count me in for Happy Hour!!  It’s Day 2 of entertaining a 10, 8 & 6 year old on a very rainy day…..#grammyproblems.  On a bright note, that is yet another fabulous outfit. Your hair color compliments so many colors you model!  Plus you’re always spot on when it comes to stylish but simple outfits!

  9. You look beautiful in these pictures. Perfect outfit. You’ve inspired me to get out my LOFT kimono from last year, almost the same color. I need to do more white on white…..great idea.  I LOVE the background you chose to do your photos. 🙂

  10. I liked this kimono when you styled it the first time and now I love it. My office is always cold even in the summer so I like wearing kimono’s because they are light weight and easy for laying. You did a great job styling it with the white on white. I would totally wear this to work. But I know the minute I order it, they will have a 40% off sale, like they always do.
