A Modern Way to Wear Red Jeans

Happy Monday, my sweet friends! Let’s take a break from the heaviness in the news, and talk about spring fashion! Today I have a modern way to wear red jeans.

While bright colored jeans aren’t super trendy right now, they don’t look dated if you style them in a modern way, and they’re fun for a change. You just want to be sure your colored jeans are a current style.

YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE: Are Skinny Jeans Out of Style?

These Mother The Stunner high rise ankle fray skinny jeans have a 10.25″ rise (low-rise jeans can look dated) and a modern 27.5″ inseam (be sure to show some ankle!)

I’m actually thinking of chopping off an inch so they’re closer to a 26.5″ inseam for more of a cropped look. That’s the nice thing about a raw hem — you can cut them to get the length you want, no need to pay a tailor!

These jeans are made of 94% cotton, 4% polyester, 2% elastane; and they run true to size. They’re also made in the USA, which is awesome!

Unfortunately they did not photograph the true color. I actually would call these more of a bright coral, although they call them Tomato. Definitely reference the website for a more accurate hue.

I got these jeans on sale at Anthro a while back, but they are no longer discounted. Yes, they’re pricey, so I recommend waiting for a sale unless you’re dying to get them right away. Or maybe you have a pair in your closet you can style a similar way.

If you want a more modern straight crop style, Mother makes their popular Tomcat relaxed straight crop jeans in this same Tomato color, and I also like the Dazzler slim crop straight in the Fruit Punch color.

I always think red jeans are begging to be paired with a white tee and denim jacket, so I kept the top half of my outfit classic.

This denim jacket is my go-to. I’ve had it for a few years, and it just gets better with age. I love the versatile mid-indigo wash, the classic 23″ length, and the figure-flattering structure through the waist.

The fabric content is 92% cotton, 6% polyester, 2% spandex; so it’s soft and stretchy and very comfortable to wear all day. I would say it runs true to size, or size down if in between. I have this jacket in the small.

My tee is the Banana Republic slub cotton-modal scoop-neck t-shirt in a size medium. I love the neckline — it’s low enough to be flattering but not low enough to be revealing, even on a larger chest.

Footwear is key to keeping a red jeans outfit modern, especially with a classic look like this one. These white mules are right on trend, and they are so comfortable!

Everlane is fast becoming one of my top 5 brands to shop, and these shoes have been on constant repeat lately. If I’m not wearing sneakers this spring, I’m probably wearing Everlane mules or loafers.

These loafer mules are incredibly lightweight, and the leather is soft and supple. They are surprisingly easy to walk in, and even stay on my narrow feet.

They do run small, though. I agree with the website, which says to size up a half size for narrow or normal widths and a whole size for wider widths.

If white shoes aren’t your thing, they also come in a gorgeous caramel (I actually just got these in the mail!) as well as a classic black, deep red, and trendy embossed snake.

My bag is a bargain buy at $55, and the stone is such a great color for spring and summer. I love the contrast stitching, and it has a removable shoulder strap if you prefer a longer length.

This updated classic look is a modern way to wear red jeans that you can easily recreate or tweak by shopping your closet or your favorite retailer.

I have some other styling ideas for these red jeans, so I’ll try to shoot another look with them sometime soon — maybe I’ll even get a 3 or 5 ways series out of them.

  1. Ooh, I loved that color when you first posted a pic awhile back. (Maybe on a try-on session?) The rise seems high for me though. I’m short @ 5’0″. I like the measurements of the Fruit Punch pair better, but I don’t like the color as much. 🙁 Those are on sale, though, which is another point in their favor. 😉

One thing I noticed about the sizing of the Everlane loafers (as opposed to the mules), is that depending on the size, there are different recommendations. Sizes 5-6.5 run large, the next few sizes run true to size, and sizes 9-11 run small. I’m still debating. I’m not really a loafer person, but these look so comfortable, I think I could be a convert.

  2. Thanks you SO much for a fun lighthearted fashion post!  Think we definitely need more “normal” right now so please keep these posts coming!  Love this outfit combo,  I also like to see red jeans with a bright floral top.  Or a striped tee!

  3. I really like how this outfit went together. I had red jeans years ago but I’m glad I parted with them as looking at yours they were in deed dated… by the way I ordered that purse last week from our department store on line as I’ve been looking for a go to spring and summer bag ( when I want a little more room) and I had my VIP 25 % discount to use.. I’m super excited to get it now🤗. Enjoy your sunny day.. it’s sunny here but still quite cool in the mornings so to the treadmill I go 😉

  4. This outfit looks great on you. What other ways can you wear red pants? With a flowered top that doesn’t have too much red in it?

  5. So happy you posted these today…   I feel like life could use a little color!

I have red jeans that I loooove.  They’re currently packed up from last year, and although I can’t remember what the rise is, I have my fingers crossed (since my shape is best suited to high rise anyway).

SO….Yes!  More red, please!   Enjoy the sun…we have it here too in Buffalo lately, along with hints of an early spring (and girl, could I use that!).

  6. Yay for fray hem pants and jeans, especially for us petite ladies. I love that I can take a pair of pants and were a bit to long or to skinny at the ankle and cut and fray them. Not only does it help the length but it also gives them a more trendy and spring vide. I just hope I don’t end up with too many like this when the style goes out. I really liked the white Made Well jeans on you. You look amazing (have you lost weight?) on your instagram stories. Just one question, do you feel the button up jeans are more youthful? I just think they might be too much for someone in their fifties so I haven’t purchased any.

  7. Love that bag! Question on spring bags: I have the Kate Spade pale pink that you featured a couple (?) of years ago. It’s my go-to spring bag. Are pale colors dated this year, or not? I also have a very pale lavender bag. Thanks for all you do. And yes, please keep the fashion diversion coming!

  8. Thanks so much for continuing to post every day and for giving us something else to focus on, even for a few minutes. You’re a bright spot in my inbox full of Corona Virus updates!!

  9. Cute outfit!! And, your hair looks great as well. It’s been looking thicker to me lately…I struggle with thin hair so I was wondering if you’re doing anything different that has helped. I’ll take any hair advice from a fellow fine hair friend that I can get lol. 🙂

  10. Thanks for such a fun post! You look great! We all need posts like this in our lives everyday. Keep them coming! My hubby and I just returned from a walk in beautiful sunshine and at least we can appreciate our spring weather. Stay safe❣️

  11. Very cute and spring-like! I agree that you should chop off just a touch at the hem for more of a cropped length; they’re just a tad too long on you.  But….I love the color! ❤️ I’m planning to do some organizing of my kitchen cupboards and drawers today and maybe make some homemade chicken noodle soup. My son and I started a 2,000 piece puzzle yesterday which is so relaxing, and I have a new book to start. Still can’t find toilet paper at ANY store however! 😬

  12. Any tips on how to do an evenly-cut raw hem yourself? Despite measuring and pinning, mine always end up a bit uneven (both front-to-back evenness on the same leg, and overall evenness between the two legs, are issues for me whenever I attempt it).

  13. I like how you made the colored jeans look current and stylish.  If those mules had arch support I would consider them.  I hope you and Allison had a good photo shoot today.  I’ll be interested to read about it in tomorrow’s post.  Enjoy the rest of your day!

  14. Have you been doing Live on Tuesdays??? That would be nice in this time we are in. You look great. I didn’t know colored jeans would be in. I have older coral pair but probably outdated.

  15. Cute outfit! Something a little bit different from what I’ve been seeing for spring. I do have some coral capris – may have to see if those would work. Thanks for the inspiration.

  16. What is your opinion on floral jeans? I bought a couple of pairs a couple of years ago, but will they look real dated if I wear them now?
