A Possible Thanksgiving Outfit?

I know, it’s not even Halloween yet, but Thanksgiving is early this year, and it’s going to be here before we know it! This outfit with its warm fall colors just made me think of Thanksgiving dinner, but of course it’s a great casual outfit to wear anytime this fall.

I’ve got this sweater in lavender, and I liked it so much I decided to order the ivory. I know, I know, I always say I don’t buy duplicates, but some pieces are worth making the exception, and I’m a sucker for a good ivory sweater.

They call it supersoft for a reason — it is soooo soft and stretchy and cozy. It’s one of those items I can wear all day and don’t even want to take it off when it’s time to change into pajamas at the end of the day. I love the extra long sleeves and the knit detail on the cuffs.

The v-neckline is flattering, and the raglan sleeves are another pretty detail. I don’t love the high-low hem, but it does make it so that it’s the perfect length for the front, while also allowing me to bend over and not worry about exposing my backside, so that’s a plus.

This sweater is 30% off today with code FRIENDS, and I’m wearing the natural color. It’s TTS; I have it in a small.

I find the cognac boots with the olive pants and ivory sweater to be a pleasing combination. You could do black or taupe or even burgundy, but this tan/cognac color really ramps up the outfit, in my opinion.

Since there is no completer piece in this outfit, as far as a jacket or vest is concerned, I feel like it needed a little extra bling, so I accessorized with this layered necklace — one of my favorites.

I like the mixed metals, and I feel like it reads more casual than some, but it also makes a nice statement. It does tend to get tangled, so I have to be careful with it, but usually it’s fine unless I try to pack it for travel.

These jeans are true to size, or if in doubt, size down. They’re very stretchy and tend to be a little big in the waist area after wearing for a while. I’m in the 29, but I would prefer the 28. They’re also on sale right now on the 7FAM website, although sizes are getting picked over. You can also find them at Lord & Taylor and Bloomingdale’s.

If you’re cooking Thanksgiving dinner, this is probably not going to be your ideal Thanksgiving outfit, but I’ll be working some ideas for you guys too, so stay tuned!

I’m usually a guest for Thanksgiving, so I like to dress up a bit while still being comfortable, and this outfit allows me to do that. The sweater is cozy, and the jeans are stretchy and super comfortable, allowing me to eat plenty of turkey and stuffing if I choose to wear this outfit for Thanksgiving Day.

I can stand around in these block heels for a few hours, but depending on the venue, I would suggest bringing flats to change into after dinner. Leopard flats would be adorable with this outfit.

  1. I kind of have the same rule about duplicates (only because my 21 yr old daughter shames me. HA) about buying multiples of one item, but sometimes it’s just that good. This is totally something I’d wear and have pretty much the same pieces in my closet. You’re right, Thanksgiving is early this year. I kind of like that, because I can go ahead a get my Christmas decorating done early without feeling rushed. I like to wait til’ after Thanksgiving to do it. Have a great weekend!! XO

  2. Love this outfit! It’s a great combo of neutrals with a lot of style infused by adding the multi-layered necklace.

Wow I can’t believe it’s time for the winter fashion series already! Then there will be a long drought until the spring series rolls around…yes, already dreaming of spring despite how icky it usually is here lol!

One trend I would like to see is layering jackets, it seems to be a thing and I’d like to see how it’s done effectively. I’ve found different combos online but not sure they are me. I would love to see how you would do it. It seems to be a form fitting layer with one or two more over it. But I also found a few that had more thicker layers together.

Another trend would be to style a poncho for indoors, wondering if you would just accessorize with jewelry or could a scarf be added too?

Hoping to see through your outfits what colors and sweater styles will be trending as well.

    1. Good ideas! And yes, it will be a long time between winter and spring. Cyndi and I decided to start winter early this year so we can dedicate Dec to holiday events and gift guides. 🙂

  3. I always have a problem with footwear for the holidays. When I am the host, I usually wear nice heels (which are not always comfortable when doing all the cooking and a lighter top since it can get warm inside), and it is fun to dress up a bit. At my daughter’s I wear flats (since her in-laws are all shorter in stature (and I don’t want to tower over them haha!) I would love to wear boots, but I think of them as outside footwear (we don’t wear shoes in our house, just slippers or barefoot.) I love this outfit for work. I have similar pieces in my closet already. Thanks!

    1. Interesting about boots in the house. I never think about that, but I do often wear pumps to Thanksgiving. I’m not sure why — I guess I feel like they make any basic jeans and sweater look festive. 🙂

  4. Love this outfit!! One thing I would like some inspiration with are cute and festive outfits I can’t wear when I am helping with my children’s holiday events.  Thanks!!

  5. Nice one. I love J. Crew (when they’re good) and your post just made me want to order that sweater in every color. Although I’d probably be better served by buying the necklace. I really could use a few more long necklaces for outfits like this. Have a great day!

  6. Love this look! I pretty much have similar pieces to this, but never thought to wear them together – thanks for the inspiration!

  7. I like this outfit!  I was going to suggest leopard flats or booties (then I saw you did that), or a scarf to get some color/pattern going, but that’s a matter of personal preference as much as anything.  I like those green pants as a “not too formal but more formal than jeans” look.  I have to admit I’d for sure drag those sleeves in my food if I wore a white sweater, but that’s me.  I’m cooking anyway, so I’ll be wearing something more gravy colored…:P

  8. Well I started my day with errands wearing gloves and black puffer coat as it was only 1 degree Celsius but sunny and bright. The weekend is going back to double degits again so yeah got to keep all the coats on hand lol… I love what you’ve styled today and would like the leopard print shoes in my case. I have been stocking up on sweaters as you and Cyndi keep giving me ideas . Looking forward to the winter fashion days. Our thanksgiving is long over and I’ll be starting  my Christmas decorating November 11 weekend:)  also like that lounge wear outfit it says me🤗

  9. Thanksgiving has already passed for me,but I think this is the perfect outfit for a brunch potluck I am going to with the girls from church. I love the color combination.

  10. Cute outfit- Beautiful color combination! I’m kind of stagnant right now with clothing as it’s still summer type temps during the day here in So CA, so I still have all my hot weather clothes front and center in my closet. And my sandals are my go-to shoes these days. It doesn’t look like we’re getting below 80 anytime soon, so we’ll probably have a warm Thanksgiving. It’s nice though that it cools down to the low 60s at night which makes it easier to sleep and keep the windows open. 🤩😎

      1. Usually our days start getting cooler in November (low to mid 70s). We got a little tease last month with a couple weeks of low 70s everyday and even one day of cool rain. It’s 8:15 am right now and it’s only 60 degrees out so I’m in my cozy joggers and sweater drinking my coffee. But by 11:00 it’ll be closer to 80 with the high predicted to be 83 today. There’s absolutely no humidity so I have to lather up with my Josie Maran whipped Argan oil everyday. 😊

  11. Isn’t Thanksgiving always the third Thursday of November every year?  Didn’t seem early to me?  But I guess it has been close to my daughters bday the 28 th before. In fact, I went into have her on Thanksgiving. No turkey for me years ago. 🙂 lol. How do
You manage to get out of hosting? 🙂 Love your outfit. So cute and cozy.

    1. Thanksgiving is actually the 4th Thursday. That’s why it’s so early this year. The first of November was a Thursday.

  12. Nice outfit!!  That necklace has become one of my favorites also.  I liked the way it looked when you first showed it awhile ago.  And for the same reasons you say here.  It does tangle but the look is worth the effort to take care of it.  BTW, each of the individual chains is detachable on mine.  That helps with the untangle factor.  I bought and enjoy the matching earrings and bracelet also.

  13. The boots really make this outfit!  This necklace is one of my favorites, too.  I wear it a lot and sometimes take it apart and wear just two or three of the layers at time.  I live in California where it’s mostly 60 degrees and above year round, so I like the idea of the leopard flats as another option.

  14. Love it! Do you have an alternative suggestion for the Ivory Sweater? It sold out! Happy Early Thanksgiving Everyone!
