About Jo-Lynne_old

Hi, I’m Jo-Lynne. I’m a 40-something mom of three, chronic over-thinker, recovering runner, and accidental fashion blogger with a weakness for skinny jeans and Sauvignon Blanc.

I’ve been writing in this little corner of the internet for over 14 years, and I love this space and the community of women who visit on a regular basis.

Over time, my site has evolved into a destination for women looking to reclaim or maintain their sense of style but without a lot of time to devote to it. That’s where I come in! I’m the girlfriend who keeps you in the know with the latest trends, the best sales, and wearable everyday outfits for the modern woman.

I live and work from home in the suburbs of Philadelphia with my husband of 25 years and three children ages 14, 17 and 20.

My style is what I like to call “casual chic.”

I’m a sucker for a pair of designer jeans and a fabulous handbag, but I enjoy mixing in more budget-friendly pieces for a look that is effortless, sophisticated, and approachable. While I enjoy trying new trends, my goal is to be stylish, not trendy.

Being a work at home mom, most of my outfits are on the more casual end of the spectrum, but I also style date night looks, and occasionally work wear. I try to share a variety of price points, and I hope my outfit ideas inspire you to shop your closet or your favorite retailers.

Who takes your outfit photos?
For a long time, my husband took my pictures, but for the past feat years, I’ve been working almsot exclusively with Allison Cornell. Besides being a talented photographer, she’s a great help with tweaking my looks and choosing amazing backdrops. She also does a lot of family photography and newborn sessions, so if you’re local, be sure to check out her portfolio!

Do you keep all of the clothes you feature?
Goodness, no! I try to keep my personal wardrobe pared down because I get overwhelmed with too many choices. I return what hasn’t been worn, I pass some things on to friends and family, I take a couple trips a year to stores like Clothes Mentor and Style Encore, and I donate the rest to a local thrift shop.

What sizes do you wear? (Yes, I actually get asked that question a lot!)
I’m 5’5″, and I weigh around 135, depending on how much pizza I consumed over the weekend. I usually wear a small in tops and sweaters, an 8 in dresses, and a 6/28 in pants/jeans. If you ever have a question about how a featured item is sized, please don’t hesitate to ask.

What is your fitness routine?
I walk/run 5-10 miles a week (it used to be a lot more), and I lift weights 2x a week. Regular exercise is key to my sanity. Running is my outlet, my me-time, and my only regular hobby. I was injured for a while and couldn’t run, and I thought I was going to climb the walls. I don’t enjoy the weight lifting as much, but I do like the results.

What do you eat?
I practice intermittent fasting, and I try to eat clean as much as possible without being legalistic about it. I eat a lot of meat, eggs, and veggies, and I buy local and organic as much as possible. I try to avoid gluten and sugar, but I’m a sucker for a bag of potato chips!

What do you do for fun?
I love good food and wine and enjoy dining out with my husband and friends at farm to table restaurants and BYOBs. I’m really quite a homebody, so cozying up on the couch with a good book is pretty much my favorite way to relax. Running and participating in local races is fun, especially when I can meet up with friends. I love to travel, but with three kids, I don’t get to do as much of that as I’d like. Honestly, I have more fun with blogging than I do with any of my hobbies. I absolutely love what I do, and I admit that my blog takes up most of my time outside of friend and family commitments.

What advice do you have for new bloggers?
Blogging takes a tremendous amount of time and patience and determination. When you start out, I think you have to have realistic expectations. I always tell people to be consistent, be yourself, and be patient. I wrote a post on how to start a blog, which you might find helpful if you’re thinking of starting a blog.

How did you get started blogging and why do you blog?
I started Musings of a Housewife in March of 2006, and it was completely spontaneous and without any strategy whatsoever. I thought blogging might be a fun way to keep in touch with friends and family, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover a supportive, encouraging community here in the blogosphere.

Eventually opportunities started coming along to work with brands and make a little extra spending money, and gradually my fun side gig became a full-time job with a full-time income and some great perks.

Besides the fact that I have no unspoken thoughts and the incessant need to over-share, blogging gives me the flexibility of a work-at-home mom, and it has opened up many exciting doors of opportunity. I’ve been able to work with some fabulous brands, I’ve traveled to places I never imagined I would get to go, and I’ve even been featured in a magazine or two!

But most of all, I just love the community of women who have gathered here. Whether you’re new here or you’ve been reading for years, I appreciate you more than you know!
