Affordable Work Wear Pants from Dress Barn

Greetings on this fine Tuesday! The sun is shining, the air is cool and crisp, and I’m excited to bring you some affordable work wear pants today. The folks at Dress Barn reached out to me and invited me to try their two best selling pants – the Super Stretch and the Secret Agent. I know many of you like to see work wear outfits, so I figured this was a good opportunity to give them another shot.

I styled both looks with the same sweater, but I changed up my shoes and jewelry. This first look features these classic fit pull-on pants in charcoal. I was pleasantly surprised to see how these fit. Finally, a dress pant that is slim through the legs without being skin-tight!

I really like the shape of these, and the 1″ split hem is a really nice detail. I feel like that makes them look more expensive than they are. They have a 30″ inseam, so they’re perfect for wearing with heels or flats. I wore suede pumps with a 3 1/2″ heel, but you could definitely wear a lower heel or even flats with these.

You may recognize the sweater I’m wearing — I styled it with bootcut jeans during 25 Days of Fall Fashion. It’s soft and comfortable with a flattering scoop neck and a shirttail hem. I wore it untucked with these pants, but you’ll see it tucked in with the next pair.

I chose this hematite and silver station necklace to bring in the grey tones from the pants, and I think it’s so pretty on the purple.

In this next look, I’m wearing the Secret Agent pull-on trousers with a wider leg. These have a hidden mesh tummy-control panel that secretly slims the middle, and I am all for that!

These pants are lightweight and stretchy and very comfortable. They’re not lined, but they aren’t see-through at all, and they’re machine washable, which is a nice bonus!

I decided to tuck in my sweater because it didn’t look so great untucked with these wider leg pants. I don’t usually tuck things in, but in this case, it’s a long sweater, so I let a couple inches blouse out over the pants so it doesn’t look too short. That also keeps it from being too bulky where the material is tucked in.

These pants have a 31″ inseam, so for me that means they require a heel (or they would be easy to hem.) I like heels with wide legged pants, though, and this time I changed them out for burgundy suede pumps. Mine are no longer available in this color, but I’ll link up some similar options below. I love the 2 1/2″ heel on these because it makes them easy to walk in but still gives me a nice lift.

If you’re looking for versatile work wear pants, you can’t beat these pants for the price. I also love these shades of grey, but they come in black as well.

What a great looking outfit. I don’t need work clothes but like to wear pants to church instead of jeans. I am giving these a try. I have not shopped Dress Barn in ages. Will put that on the list to consider.
    Thank you!

  2. These dress slacks look so nice!  It’s great to have some affordable options out there that don’t look cheap.  I love the color of your sweater!  It seems so versatile.

  3. Every time we go to the US, I always go to Dress Barn! I love their stuff for work and have gotten a number of really nice dresses from there that are still standing the test of time. I even found one to wear to my sons graduation last year! Thanks for styling these – I really like the look of this grey color, it would go with a lot of my fall colors. 🙂

  4. I sometime go to Dress Barn because sometimes with a sale and a coupon, it feels like they are paying You to take the clothes home.  I don’t find their clothing to be good quality and last very long, but the price is definitely right.  I was in there the other day and thought of you. I said to myself that I wonder if Jo-Lynne would ever do a super budget post with Dress Barn.  Now here it is.  I love the first pair of pants in the post and may try a pair. Thanks for posting something very budget friendly.

  5. I like the look of both trousers on you. I looked at the slimmer pair, but they were sold out in my size. I have to say I like them better on you than the model. When are we going to be done with the ankle length trousers? A girl only needs a certain number of them for wearing when it’s warm! Ugh. Heaven forbid a person looks better in full-length trousers with a heel. Thanks for finding me some though!

    1. Paige, I so agree! I prefer non-skinny, non-ankle length pants. The past few years have been such a challenge to find flattering clothes as I feel the fashion industry is styling for my exact opposite.

  6. Yes I have a couple pairs of those super stretch pull on pants. I work with 3 and 4 year olds and need to comfortably be on the floor at times. With a cute top or sweater I always feel very comfortable and semi professional(no heels here). I can throw them right in the wash after a messy day of finger painting or glue stick gone mad.

  7. Jo-Lynne, I love both looks, though the second one would work better on me to balance out my broad shoulders. What size are you wearing in that second pair of pants (the Secret Agent one)? Thanks for being willing to experiment with looks that are not so firmly in your comfort zone as skinny jeans 🙂
