And ten pounds later, she returns home.

I’ve been going to the Jersey shore for vacation every summer since I married into the husband’s family.  This is our 15th year.  Eight adults and eight kids cram into a 4-bedroom/2-bathroom condo on the beach.  And believe it or not, it works.  For the most part.  It helps that we’re all pretty easy going.

If you have a place you go time and time again, you know how you get into certain habits, or traditions.  One tradition we have is meeting up at the boardwalk one evening and going to the amusement park and then gorging on fried dough and ice cream.

Last night was our boardwalk night.  Now tell me, dontcha wish you were here?  Behold the glory of the funnel cake.  Notice how my 5-year-old can’t
be bothered to stop eating long enough to smile for the picture.  Now
that’s commitment, y’all.

Bumper cars are always the highlight of the night.  Almost everyone gets in on the fun.

The little girls aren’t quite so adventurous, but they had fun.

The perfect end to a perfect night — ice cream cones at dusk.

Mine was chocolate peanut butter.  There were huge ribbons of peanut
butter throughout the rich chocolate.  My only regret is that I didn’t
get it in a waffle cone.  Perhaps another ice cream run is in order.  We have one night left.

AND.  In completely unrelated news, we had some, er, success on the potty this morning.  I’m not confident enough to declare that we have mastered the task, but we certainly made some progress.  WOOT!!

  1. Hi, it looks like you are having a great time down the shore. Yes the combo of peanut butter and ice creawm is really good. Potty training in my house is a bit better no screaming battles anymore, so we are progressing slowly. Have fun on your last day of vacation.

  2. Funnel cake. Peanut butter ice cream. Evenings that merit only a lightweight jacket. Being flanked by smiling, happy children. Sounds like a slice of heaven!

Enjoy your last night! (10 pounds is a small — and temporary — price to pay! 😉 )

  3. Don’t know what funnel cake is, but looks delicious, judging my the happy faces. Hungry just looking at these.

We head off to the beach tomorrow – although it is 2 adults, 3 kids – 3 bedrooms – a bit more room 🙂

The local delicacies near our cottage are dulse and yellowman (dried seaweed Uugh!!!!) and honeycome sweets (yummy but a dentist’s nightmare). But we stick with ice-cream for our traditional family treats. Pooh Bear (vanilla icecream with big chunks of honeycomb) is my fav.

  4. I’m so excited that we’re going down the shore this weekend! First time with the wee ones… bring on the sand castles.

  5. Sounds fun, can’t wait to get to the beach this weekend. My goal is not to eat the funnel cake, I’ll keep you posted on how that goes.

  6. Ooooh, chocoloate peanut butter…makes me want to get some ice cream right now! Looks like you had a lot of fun 🙂

  7. I’m jealous that you have jackets on in the pictures. We will not see jackets in Arizona until probably around late October. Enjoy your last night!

  8. This reminds me of our vacation we just took! There was an ice cream stand right across the street from our condo and that was a nightly tradition. I love summer vacays!

  9. A delicious vacation is a perfect vacation. My mouth is watering just thinking about all the wonderfulness you guys are indulging in. Can we come next year?

  10. Ahhhh…. Our vacation is not til Aug and I want it to be now. We used to do the shore but now we do the bay. The rides and boards are good for a night out of fun. The bay does not have all the food and fun to offer but it is super relaxing and some how the kids sleep better for that week than ever before. We have no schedule and just eat when hunger hits. For my 2 that would be every hour. Hope you enjoy you vacation. I think We might need to do a day or short weekend trip to the beach. Thanks for bringing fond memories back to the surface.

  11. Love the pics and love your descriptions. Sounds like a great time. Glad you are all home safe and sound.

  12. Thanks for sharing the vacation pics — I especially like the one with the boardwalk in the background. We used to go to Wildwood, NJ when I was really little. Seeing the boardwalk in your picture brought back some memories!

  13. That’s one of my favorite flavors, Haagen Dazs makes one that is decadent.
All of your kids have great smiles, but R really has a gigantic beaming smile.
Hope things keep going well in the potty training.
