And The Onslaught of End-of-Year Papers Begins

I love going through the end of the year papers.  I always make two separate piles — one to toss and one to keep.  I have a box in my closet where I stash all my kids’ school memorabilia.

This year, as my son is older, there is more writing and less artwork.  I love reading my son’s writing.  It’s always full of video games and baseball.  Here are a few of my favorites.  (Any writing prompts from the teacher are in italics.  Spelling and punctuation errors are intentional.  At least, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.)

I got a new robot today.  These are the things I’m going to have it do for me.  It will do my homework.  It will get me snacks and drinks.  It will get me stuff from the store.  It will let me do anything I want.  It will do my chores.  It will block me when people try to do somthing that is mean.

Write about what you want to be when you grow up.

I want to be a professional baseball player when I grow up.  I want to play baseball because I like baseball and it looks like fun.  I want to play for the phillies.

My name is D.  I would like to become the president of the United States of America.  I was born in Pennsylvania.  I live with my mom, dad and two sisters.  I am in second grade.  My favorite subject is math.  I like math games.  If I became president of the United States in 2042, I would say that on every Friday and Monday school students would get a lollipop at their bus stop.

If I was given $100 I would buy stuff to make a big fort.  Next I would save it up till Christmas.  then I would buy Christmas gifts.  Then I would put the rest in the bank if I had anymore.

  1. How adorable! We’ve only seen a few papers come home (school ends Friday), but one thing I did notice is Doodle was writing better at the beginning of the year. It’s like she got worse as time went on. It’s been a very long year, and frankly, I’m thrilled to get 3rd grade out of the way — especially with all the freaking testing they do!!

Enjoy your treasures! I still have piles to separate into keep and trash from Kindergarten 😀

  2. Oh how I love, and yet am challenged by, the onslaught! At Ikea a couple of weeks ago I saw some acid-free storage boxes (I think they were called “Florts”—I love Ikea names), and when I told my husband I thought we needed to get some for the twins’ pending year-end deluge of drawings et al, his advice? Edit. You’re an editor.
(Not so easy when it’s your children’s handiwork!) I need that robot… 😉

  3. That was so cute. He is a good little writer.
….I would say that on every Friday and Monday school students would get a lollipop at their bus stop….

  4. I didn’t know he wants to be The President! There is hope for us after all. But wait, how old will I be in 2042 — hmmm— a Very BIG number! Go Little D!
