Another Fun Way to Wear Red Jeans

Last week I posted a casual way to wear red jeans, and I wanted to follow that up with another red jeans outfit that’s a little dressier.

You may not have anywhere to wear this type of outfit right now, but these are all wardrobe basics that can be mixed and matched in various ways, and classic pieces that you can have in your closet for many years.

I’m actually most excited about this black blazer.

I’ve been on the hunt for a versatile black blazer for ages… years, really. I’ve had a couple that I eventually passed on because they weren’t quite right, but I think I finally found that elusive unicorn!

This is the J.Crew “Going Out Blazer” in a stretch twill, and the quality is excellent. Read the reviews — they are fantastic.

It’s fully lined, and the lining is done right. The last blazer I thought I loved had a wonky lining that showed below the hem of the blazer. Friends, that’s a #nobueno.

I love how this blazer has no lapels, and the 3/4 sleeves are fun. You can cuff them, as I did here, or wear them plain.

It has a slim fit and a clean, open front (no buttons.) This keeps it from being too businesslike, and you can dress it up or down. Wear it with a dress or blue jeans or anything in between… like red jeans and a leopard sweater!

Best of all, this blazer is currently 40% off with code SHOPNOW, and shipping is free for J.Crew Rewards members.

It also comes in navy, red, and grey; and I have the 6, for reference.

These high rise ankle fray skinny jeans are 25% off at Bloomingdale’s, and they run true to size. They’re also made in the USA, which is awesome!

They have a 10.25″ rise and a 27.5″ inseam, and I keep meaning to chop off about an inch so they’re closer to a 26.5″ inseam, which looks more modern to my eye. This length works fine with these shoes, though.

I realize they’re still pretty spendy for red jeans, so I rounded up some other options at the end of this post.

This leopard sweater is the same one I paired with black jeans and loafers earlier this week. I just love the fit, the shape of the v-neck, and the elbow-length sleeves. So flattering!

It’s made of a super soft fine gauge cotton/rayon knit, and it feels really nice on.

I’m wearing the small, but I almost could use an XS. I’m actually hoping it takes up a little bit in the wash.

And these sandals are a new addition this spring. I like them so much, I have them in snake print as well. They’re very comfortable to walk in, and actually stay on my foot really well.

I did size down half for my narrow feet, but they’re TTS if you have medium or wide feet.

I kept my jewelry classic and understated. I figure the red jeans are loud enough, so I wanted the rest of the outfit to support them, rather than compete.

A 3/4 sleeve definitely calls for a bracelet or two, so I wore this textured gold bangle.

I also wore my Anna Beck pendant and mixed metal charm hoop earrings, and my taupe Everlane tote is almost a perfect match for these croc embossed wedge sandals!

This outfit is definitely one you can play around with. Swap out the blazer for a cardigan for a more relaxed look, or a denim jacket would dress it down even more.

You can wear loafers or sneakers in lieu of the wedge sandals; and if the red jeans are outside of your comfort zone, black would be super chic, and blue jeans could totally work too.

  1. So great that you are featuring some items from Talbots. I love their fashion and they have a wide range of sizes. Look forward to more….

  2. This is one of my most favorite outfits you’ve styled this year. As you mentioned all of the pieces can be worn so many different ways. I must find some petite red jeans now. Thanks for sharing alternative price options, although those look amazing on you. Definitely stay away from too much news, it does start to have a negative effect on our own well-being. I only watch at noon or early evening otherwise I go to bed worried about when this will all end.

    1. Yes, I am the same. I read a lot about it first. I want to be informed, but now that I feel like I understand the situation, I’m trying to stay away from the hour by hour updates. I know it’s getting bad in certain areas, and I’m afraid it’s coming here eventually. For now I’m just trying to live day by day and not borrow trouble, as my mother used to say. 😬

      1. I love that saying!  I’m not overly worried about getting sick, but my husband is retired and watching that stock market is frightening.  I trust in the Lord, though.  Regardless of what happens in this earthly life, we will spend eternity with Him!

  3. Many think that yoga is not “strenuous”, but I often have felt sore from doing it (in a good way). Yoga can be very good for toning, as well as stretching. I have scheduled myself (haha) to do yoga today from the video you suggested. I had heard of Adrianne and yoga before, so it was nice to see your recommendation.
The red jeans at Old Navy (your link) are only available in size 20. The ones on amazon, when I selected my size (6) went up to $60. Amazon seems to have that happen a lot: I choose an item of clothing, price seems good, then I choose my size, and the price jumps. I had considered the Loft pair you suggested, but I don’t like the fray bottoms. Just my personal preference.

    1. Hey Arna. Make sure you click on the regular sizes at Old Navy for those red jeans. For some reason, it is defaulting to the petite or plus sizes… I can’t remember which. But I think the regular is pretty much fully stocked. Also, I totally agree about those loft jeans. I almost didn’t include them because of that hem, but you can just cut it right off.

      1. Great! Yes, it went directly to tall, and I didn’t even look. Thank you! I am going to try these. I will order in two sizes, just in case. Let me see what else they have haha!

  4. Hi – fabulous outfit!
Just to say my yoga lady says to stretch but always ‘without strain’. It sounds wimpish but believe me if you are doing yoga every day your stretching capacity will increase without causing problems.
    All the best

  5. I received my Marc Fisher sandals from Nordstrom (in “chic cream”) yesterday & I love them! They’re the perfect casual sandal with a little edge. Thank you so much for recommending them, Jo-Lynne!

  6. What a sharp looking outfit!  I do see the versatility in every piece of this outfit.  I hope that you are having nice weather today.  It was 46 here when I got up and it’s made to 81, and the sun is out!

  7. Hi Jo-Lynne,
Not sure why, but my mail from you keeps going in my spam file.
Anyway I was looking at cargo pants to buy. Nordstroms has a cute pair by Wit & Wisdom. Flex-ellent hight waist cargo pants. What’s a girl to do while stuck home these days……besides cleaning closets and reorganizing things. Ugh. If you read the reviews one customer mentions you by name that you had bought these pants! I was curious how you liked them (I ordered them yesterday) and did size down one size like customers recommended. I picked the blue ones and it sounds like some ladies have them in different  colors than listed on the Nordstom website at this time. What color do you have?
