August Favorites {2020}

Happy Monday, friends! It’s time for my August Favorites, a roundup of new finds and old favorites I’m particularly loving right now. Cleary, I’m feeling drawn to dark, moody colors and camo at the moment…

August Favorites {2020}

I had a hard time coming up with things that are still in stock, since a lot of my new favorite things are #NSale finds, but I did find similar options for most of the sold-out items.

one // These are my favorite white shorts this year, and they’re 50% off at the moment! They’re a good shorter length option, and you can wear them cuffed or un-cuffed because they aren’t sewn in the cuffed position.

two // I’m so excited about these pants. They are so flattering and versatile. I’ve already sung their praises several times, but if you missed it, I styled them 5 ways in this post.

They also come in petite and tall sizes, and they run true to size per the sizing charts. I have the medium.

three // These leather slip-on sneakers are such good quality and soooo comfortable. You can’t go wrong with the Sofft brand if you’re searching for both comfort and style. I like this camo a lot, but they also come in some solid neutral colors.

four // I keep feeling drawn to the darker colors, camo and animal prints right now, but I’ve been trying to remind myself that it’s still summer so I should wear my summery clothes while I can… like this floral ruffle top!

This top is so cute on, and I love the floral print and ruffle neck. I can rarely do ruffles, but these don’t add visual weight, and I like the feminine touch. Also, it’s marked down to like $12 right now! It’s TTS; I have the small.

five // This sweater is finally on sale! It’s such a good one for transition season because it’s super lightweight, but the colors give a nod to fall. It’s TTS; I have the small.

six // I always like to include a nail color in these posts, and the one I’m currently wearing is this fun shade of blue. It’s not quite denim, not quite navy… something in between.

seven // I love this camo tee, and I did from the moment I first laid eyes on it on the Nordstrom website. Unfortunately it sold out super fast and hasn’t been restocked very often. I did, however, find two that are similar — this Splendid crew in camo is very close, and it also comes in a v-neck for those who prefer.

eight // These boyfriend jeans are really fun for a change. I like them cuffed with sandals and sneakers right now, and I will pair them with ankle boots this fall.

You can find more of this style on the Rag & Bone website, and some are even on sale. I recommend sizing down at least one size. I’m in the 27, and I sort of wish I’d tried the 26. (I’m a solid 28 in all other Rag & Bone styles, and most other jeans as well.)

nine // I still think I like the Madrid style best, but I recently picked up the Mayari, and I’m enjoying having another pair of Birks to alternate. This antique lace is such a pretty neutral — it’s not stark white, more of a bone, and it has a bit of a sheen to it. It goes with ev-er-y-thing.

ten // Finally, these shortie pajamas are still fully stocked, and I love how soft and lightweight they are. All of the sudden, I’m finding myself often hot at night, so I’ve been stocking up on pajama shorts sets this year.

Hope your week gets off to a good start! I’m meeting with Alison this morning to shoot some looks for my fall series with Cyndi, which starts on September 1st!!!

  1. You have some great favorites this month!  I hope the photo shoot went well and that you enjoy the rest of your day!

  2. All great items, Jo-Lynne! I love the R&B boyfriend jeans! I wanted something with that silhouette and these are perfect. I ordered one size down from my usual size. I did wonder if they would grow. They look amazing with my Vince Chelsea boots which are so comfortable. I’m just trying to decide whether or not to keep the black suede or the leather. I also bought the light-colored Mother jeans with the ripped knees– I’ve never worn Mother jeans and I love how they fit. The pockets are the best part. I wished I’d order the dark Mother jeans before they sold out. I like them that much. I’m still waiting for my camo T to ship, though I have to admit, I prefer a V-neck. I may have to order the Splendid one.

    I love the color of your new Birks, Jo-Lynne. I never found Birks particularly comfortable, but Mephisto makes several styles that are nearly identical. I feel like they fit better and are more streamlined while amazingly comfy. I may have to look for a similar color next spring. I’ve cut myself off for warm weather clothes.

    1. I decided to keep the suede Vince boots. The leather looked cheap to me, unfortunately, b/c that’s what caught my eye at first. I’m glad I tried both. And YAY for Mother jeans! They really are so comfortable and flattering.

  3. Hi Jo-Lynne!
      I have the Spanx black pants in my cart.  They look great, but I’m wondering how they wash. Have you washed yours yet and if so, how? They seem like the type of pants that you wash inside out, hang to dry and then iron, but I’m not sure with the seam on the back. Thanks!

    1. I haven’t washed them, but I can’t imagine they’ll need an iron.

      Actually, they say NOT to iron. I just looked up the washing instructions on the website: Machine wash cold, gentle cycle. With like colors. Inside out. Only non-chlorine bleach when needed. Lay flat to dry. Do not iron.

  4. I want to let you know I so appreciate how much info you give for each piece. It really helps me. I don’t usually order online because I like to try things on but during COVID that’s not even an option some places. I have branched out to ordering more online, thanks to your help.

  5. Wanting to order the Spanx pants but unclear on size. Can you remind me what size you generally wear in Loft jeans just as a reference point? Do the Spanx pants give a lot as you wear them? Thanks!

  6. Hey Jo-Lynne!! For the life of me, I can’t seem to find the email in which you were asking for suggested topics for 21 days of fashion.
    I always seem to struggle with finding low heel as in 2 inch or lower shoes (That are also comfortable to stand in )to pair with dresses and dress pants or simply to dress up a pair of jeans. I do have some dressy or low heeled booties but I’m talking shoes.
    When I find low heeled dressy shoes and try to put them on with the dress I feel like the look then becomes more matronly (on me anyway).
    It’s easier to find options in the summertime because you can use the platform sandal wedges but the fall and winter months are harder unless I’m wearing boots or booties.
    Would you consider doing a post on how to elevate a fall/winter dress/dressy look with lower heeled dressy shoes?
    Thanks!

    1. It doesn’t matter – they all come to the same inbox. 🙂 I will see what I can find. I agree, it is hard to find low heels that don’t come off as matronly with a dress, but it seems like they are offering more variety lately, so I’ll see what I can find.
