My parents are in town this weekend, and my kids know that means homemade waffles for breakfast! This recipe is our old standby; we’ve been using it for as long as I can remember. The secret is the stiff egg whites.

Fluffy, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, these are the ultimate Belgian waffles.
Ingredients
- 2 egg whites, stiffly beaten
- 2 egg yolks
- 1-1/2 cups milk
- 2 cups flour
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp vanilla
- 1/3 cup oil
Instructions
- Beat egg whites until stiff. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, mix remaining ingredients well. Gently fold whites into batter with a large metal spoon until just blended. When blended, the batter will still be lumpy.
- Spoon batter into preheated Belgian waffle iron. Cook until golden brown. Serve hot with butter and REAL maple syrup.
Ohh, I was just dreaming about breakfast food! Will it work without the secret of stiff egg whites? We use egg beaters…
I love belgian waffles. We usually use the Krusteaz mix and it’s (almost) as good as homemade. 🙂
Serves 4? You meant one, right?
We had to switch to pancakes to keep up with the kiddos. They are heavy eaters, but on pancake day, my husband and I have a glimpse of the money pit that will be their teens.
mmmmm….those look so good!
Yum. Definitely going to try those out!
Those look divine. Mmmmmm….
