Beyond A Basic Tee

Hey there! Happy Tuesday, and dare I say it… happy first day of Spring! Ironically, we’re expecting 6-10 inches of snow over the next 24 hours. Good times!

Despite that recent turn of events, 22 Days of Spring Fashion carries on, and today I’m styling this knot front tee.

22 Days of Spring Fashion: Spring outfit featuring TROUVÉ Knot Front Tee, PAIGE Verdugo Ankle Skinny Jeans, SAM EDELMAN Hazel Pumps, STELLA&DOT Cece Earrings, and KSNY shoulder bag.

You know I’m a sucker for a tee with a twist (haha… see what I did there?) and this may be my favorite one yet! For one thing, it has a really flattering fit to it, and it drapes rather than ballooning out when you move around.

Also, I’ve had tie front tops that show some skin where the knot forms, but this one doesn’t do that. For size reference, I have the small.

TROUVÉ Knot Front Tee

This top comes in three bold colors — red poppy, teal balsam, and yellow nugget. I love all three, but I was particularly drawn to the teal. I love to wear teal with white in the spring and summer.

I tried on a bunch of different shoes with this outfit including tan wedge espadrilles, blush loafers, and leopard mules, and and they all worked, but I decided to feature my white pumps for a change. I know they call this top a tee, but the material looks and feels dressier than that, and I like how the pumps elevate the outfit.

White pumps are trending this spring — actually, white shoes of all types are trending!

I love a good pair of pumps, and this Sam Edelman style is a great marriage of style and comfort. They actually have cushioning in the footbed. They aren’t cheap but they aren’t crazy spendy either, and if you keep an eye on them, you can snag them on sale from time to time.

These white jeans are my go-to favorites that you’ve seen plenty of times before, and the bag is a few years old. I picked it up during a Kate Spade surprise sale, and I carry it a lot in the spring and summer when I want something small and dressy but large enough to hold my wallet and a few other essentials.

In lieu of my typical long pendant or monogram necklace, I decided to try out a pair of statement earrings. These are new from Stella & Dot, and I think they’re so fun.

Usually I would wear them with a contrasting color or with a neutral outfit, but I really like how they look with the darker teal top. They look heavy, but they’re actually very lightweight and easy to wear.

I realize my spring outfits have been featuring a ton of jeans, maybe even more than normal, but I’ve spent so much time trying out the high rise straight crop styles that I sort of forgot to look for pants alternatives that could be work appropriate.

Work wear isn’t my thing, but I do try to include a few office-friendly looks in each style series. You could pair this top with white or light grey pants if you wanted to wear it to work, and if you prefer a bootcut style of white jeans, this pair by Citizens looks great.

Facebook Live Chat and Q&A

Don’t forget, my weekly Facebook Live chat and Q&A is today at 1PM EST!

I have every intention of having the chat, but I may be dealing with early dismissal and kids arriving home during that time because of the impending snowstorm, so if I have to cancel, I will announce it on my Facebook Page. Be sure you’re following me over there so you get all the alerts!

I tried something new this week, and I created a Facebook Event to advertise today’s chat. If you have anything you want to chat about, or any questions for me, feel free to comment either here on the blog or on that Event post.

  1. The teal top looks great against the white jeans. Love the earrings as well, a different but good look on you.

Is there an FB Live today, didn’t see a reminder in the newsletter or in your blog post.

  2. I noticed that you did not have on a necklace and wondered if was because you didn’t want to take away from the tie knot.  This is a very nice and versatile outfit.  Good luck with the snow!  So many people will be cleaning up today from the storms and tornadoes that hit yesterday and last night.  Fortunately, it did not get as bad in our general area.  Have a blessed day!

      1. It appears there were tornadoes in AL & GA that caused lots of damage.  Of course, they still need to be confirmed.

  3. Love the outfit… what a cute top. The tie makes it and such a nice bright color.., I still can’t get into pumps with jeans lol so I’d probably pair it with a nude wedge or flat. You look beautiful in that color by the way.
    Have a great day

Ps we are watching for a storm tomorrow night into Thursday but I’m hoping for rain😉 haven’t seen alot of snow where I am in Canada this winter so now  that’s its spring no thanks:) I also love your location it really works well in making that top jump off the page… hats off to hubby

  4. Stunning color on you!  Such a simple outfit but that is really eye catching!  Question on handbags for spring summer.  Are you adding anything new, what color style, etc.?   I’ve purged my handbags a few weeks ago, looking to keep it simple for spring/summer with the addition of only one more bag!  During the Vera Bradly sale, I purchased a white quilted leather one that can be worn either crossbody or without the strap.  (If you haven’t seen one of their leather bags, check them out, the leather is amazing, soft and smells wonderful).  Do I want a blush color?  Your suggestions/thoughts?  Oh, and enjoy that snow!!

  5. Ha ha, you’re funny this morning!  These colors look so pretty on you, and the heels look great.   I wish my feet would allow me to wear heels that height.  They are so flattering.  Do you know of any platform espadrilles with a low-ish arch?  I can manage the higher platform, just not the high arch.  Happy first day of Spring!  I hope your kids get plenty of snow and that it’s the last one this season.

  6. Wow I love this outfit on you. The fit and colour are just beautiful! Hopefully this is your last snowfall. It is cold but sunny here and Spring is in the air. Happy first day of Spring. My favourite season

  7. Wow, I really love this top in every color! I’ve seen so many lately that have the tie in the middle. I just don’t think I could handle that. This one is gorgeous though. The color, the fabric, the drape are all different than most I’ve seen.

  8. Where do you go to buy bright color sandals.? I want a yellow pair that I can get some wear out of. But something with a little more support then O.Navy.
    Plus I want yellow.

  9. What a pretty top.  And I love how you can dress it up with pumps or make it casual with espadrilles or sandals.

I don’t recall you wearing much of that color but it really looks good on you!

Hope you get just enough snow to be able to enjoy it. 😁

  10. Beautifully styled, Jo-Lynne! I love the shirt, and the color is beautiful on you. I’m so tickled by the return of the white shoe to the style scene! I’m going shopping today, and I think I’ll look at some and try them on.

I hope you have a wonderful First Day of Spring, even with the snow! And maybe you’ll get enough for your kids to actually enjoy. 🙂

  11. You look amazing. These photos are beautiful. This is one of my favorite kinds of looks for myself (heels, jeans and a great quality t-shirt that’s a little “beyond basic”, as you stated) so it’s also my favorite look of the spring series thus far.
I also want to add that your blog is so well written. You have a gift for expressing your personality and info about the outfits in a way that is funny, informative, and you use grammar, punctuation and sentence structure in a manner that is so pleasant to read!

  12. Love, love, LOVE this look. That teal colour looks fabulous on you and it is one of my favourite colours to wear. I’m really enjoying your new email format including the question and answer portion. Here is a topic I always wonder about. Yesterday you mentioned that you like when your top extends below your jacket. My question is: how MUCH material should show beneath a jacket or sweater? Thanks for all the work you put into your blog.

  13. Feel your pain with the snow….
    Thirty in Chicago!
    Come on Spring!
Love the shirt and bright color!
Excited to get to our white and beige shoes!
Thank you for keeping the spirit of
    Spring going!!!!

  14. I love this outfit, especially the teal color.  Sadly Mediums are not available in Teal.  Do you know of any similar tops? Thanks so much, JoLynne, you keep me “stylish” acorrding to my 8yr, old my granddaughter!

  15. Hi Jo Lynne, you look pretty in this as always! Love the teal on you. Such a cute top. In regards to nice versatile work/ nicer pants I have good luck with the Hampshire ankle pant at Talbots. They can be a work ( I no longer work but used to wear for a healthcare sales job) OR they can be dressed down for a nice dinner outfit or church etc. The quality is very nice. Thanks for the spring outfit ideas every day! So helpful!

  16. Love the teal top contrast against white jeans. The teal looks terrific on you.

Stay sane with more snow. Its getting tiresome. Spring is coming, right?!? 😂
