Blossom Wrap Top + High Waist Skinnies

Happy Thursday, friends! I’m back today with an outfit I might wear out to dinner or to a casual fall event where dressed-up denim is appropriate. This floral wrap top is a great little transition piece for those of us who are still experiencing unusually warm fall weather.

I’ve always loved a peplum top for the way it enhances a woman’s curves, but I also struggle to find wrap tops that actually close over the girls… usually I end up having to adhere it to my body with fashion tape. When I saw this wrap top on the Loft website, I was skeptical, but I ordered it and hoped for the best.

I was super excited when it came in the mail and I discovered that it has a clever little snap placed right where you need it. (Why don’t all wrap tops and dresses have that???) It’s also right on trend with the fall floral print.

Since we’re having such a warm fall, I love the short sleeves, but you could always add a cardigan or jacket when it gets cold out.

Here’s a look at the back of the top. It has a adjustable pull-through waist ties so you can make it fit your waist perfectly, and I think the flutter sleeves are so feminine and pretty.

I paired this top with dark wash skinnies, but it would also be cute with white or pink — although that would be more of a summer look. Not that I’m opposed to wearing white jeans this time of year, but I usually pair them with heavier fabrics to make them look intentional for fall.

I added my grey suede peep-toe booties that I’ve been wearing so much this fall. They go with so many outfits and they’re really comfortable. They’re on the pricier side, but I got them during the Nordstrom sale when they were 40% off. If you like them, remember you can Favorite them from my shopping widget below, and then you’ll get notified when they go on sale!

I carried my taupe crossbody with gold hardware. I’ve been carrying the same few purses over and over and over in this fall style series… that’s real life, right??? I’ve just been going to my closet and picking out whatever I would carry if I were going somewhere in these outfits.

But I wonder, how do you guys feel about that? Would you prefer I pick up a few new bags in a wider variety of price points to add to my outfits do make them more interesting and current? Or is it better to use what I have, since that’s more realistic. I mean, nothing about these styles series are realistic. No one buys 25 new fall outfits each season… ha! So maybe I should work harder to incorporate a wider variety of bags and accessories, rather than reaching for the same ones over and over?

Speaking of accessories, I filled the neckline of the top with this 3-layer necklace, but unfortunately it’s sold out. Then I added gold hoops (also old) and a delicate cuff. I love this cuff bracelet — you’ve seen it a lot, but it is still available. I wear it a lot with my dressier looks.

  1. I love this top! I’m going to TRY not to order it since I have too many tops, ha. But I’m such a sucker for a wrap top. I noticed they have it in a pretty blue solid too and also a wrap peplum  tee in several pretty colors.

    1. Oh, and I am really not a bag person… I tend to wear the same few over and over myself (despite the fact that I own dozens; many were gifts, and they seem to last a very long time compared to clothing and shoes so they tend to accumulate.) I’d rather spend the money on a new clothing piece than a new bag, and i’d rather coordinate my bag with my outfit than vice versa… so really my goal with bags tends to just be to make sure they complement what I’m wearing. SO… what you do works fine for me!

  2. Well I think I better get on the band wagon and pick up at lest one floral top that’s not a blouse for this fall.., our weather has been nuts too. We had an extremely hot and humid summer with little to no rain.. the most rain we had was the other evening ( our lakes are looking low)… any how we had fall for a few days nice 70 degree weather now the heat has returned( high 90’s) and will be here until next week.. guess we are going to have a short fall . I’ve been wearing my white denim jeans but trying to wear a top that’s fall colors but light weight however many are still sporting their shorts. Boy do I need denim shorts if I can find some… thanks for the heads up on the Kate Spade sale I was actually looking last night as I need two everyday handbags and can’t find anything in store… have you ever bought from Sole Society? Looking at a little black and leopard crossbody.
    Have a good one😀

  3. What a fabulous outfit, and you look so nice in it!  When I wear a top with flowy sleeves I have one heck of a time getting the sleeves to lay down nicely when I add a sweater or jacket.  Do you have any suggestions?  I really like that you are keeping it real with your accessories.  Most of us can’t have the perfect handbag, necklace, etc., to go with every outfit in our closet, so we have to work with what we have.  I hope that you had a good 🏃‍♀️!

  4. Terrific outfit! There’s been so much versatility in this series so far. You rock!
In regard to handbags, I like it when you show new ones because even if I can’t get every bag it is so fun to see how they work with an outfit. But I am torn because one of the things I love about your blog is that it’s real.. you share what you really want and wear, not just what is going to sell. So, I guess what I am saying is basically you can do no wrong in my books lol😍

  5. Look forward to reading your blog daily! Wonder if you have a suggestion for a handbag, crossbody, in the brown family, soft leather, similiar to the size and style of Coach Chelsea, in the $300 range. I have the Chelsea in black but dislike the firm pebble leather.

  6. Can’t wait to see the kitchen updates and hear what the designer has to say!! Such a cute top today!! Looks great on you!!

  7. Love it. This is a flattering look for 40+. Gives some shape in the center (when often that’s where we carry extra padding) and offers forgiveness/distractions on the arms.

  8. You nailed it with this outfit! All the pieces are so flattering on you. Especially the top! I’m not one for wearing those type of sleeves but I would definitely try this one. The dark jeans and grey booties are a perfect compliment to the top. I tend to stay with neutral colored purses because they are more economically and I just like the basic colors. Good luck with your FWTWl journey but I really don’t think you need to loose weight at all. But as we age it does creep up on us and it’s harder to get off.

    1. Thanks, you’re sweet, and I do appreciate that. This is more about staying in the range I’m accustomed to than it is about losing a noticeable amount. I just share because I know a lot of women our age struggle with the pounds creeping up on us, and if this works, I want to let people know. Plus having some accountability helps. 🙂

  9. Jo-Lynne, I have a question concerning the fashion tape…does it leave a sticky residue on your tops?   Would it be ok to use on all fabrics like silk?
    Thank you in advance!

  10. You have shared in the past that a quality bag is a wise investment because you can carry it for years and the right style/color can be carried with a variety of outfits. I enjoy seeing that play out in your posts. It’s been great to see that, yes, one bag can be versatile enough to pick up every day for a week, month, or season. Much like AYW has helped me narrow my shopping field to what looks fabulous on me, seeing the same bag usd many ways has helped me think through hand bag purchases and go for quality over quantity. If that is your personal philosophy, I see nothing wrong with sticking with it on your blog. Either way, your blog is the first I read in the morning.

  11. You nailed it! I love the high waisted skinnies on you! And, that peplum top is darling. Now I wish
I hadn’t given my solid navy one to my daughter.
I like the looks of the tortoise shell handled tote you’re buying. Let us know if it looks like leather.
I read on WhoWhatWear that peep toe booties are out. Do you think that trend is fading?

  12. I’m rather surprised that you posted this top with skinny jeans–I think it would look cute with the straight or bootcut pants to balance the volume on the top.  I always worry about looking like an ice cream cone with skinny jeans and larger/flowing tops.  I don’t mind the same accessories–it is “real” that way in that there are pieces we love and “go-to” when we open our closets.  OTOH, as a blogger you are seen as an inspiration and maybe give us new ideas to aspire to?  Either way, I’m fine with it.  Would like to see that top with a different silhouette of pants tho.  Maybe that’s just me. 🙂

    1. I don’t consider this a voluminous top because it has shape through the waist, but the flutter sleeves and the peplum do give it some extra width that a bootcut jean might help balance out… I like it with skinnies too tho, especially with these shoes. I think a more delicate shoe – like pumps – could put it over the edge, though. I can see bootcut jeans with this top and pumps. I might try that and see…

You pretty much summed up my conundrum on the accessories issue. 🙂 Maybe a mix of both is ideal.

  13. Hey Jo-Lynne! I like that you keep it real but I also know your post is to give us ideas and not just completely ‘copy-cat’ each and every outfit you post although it is tempting! One thing I would LOVE to see you do is take an outfit that wasn’t exactly perfect, for example the work wear pieces that you featured last week, the black pants and blouse and even the yellow chinos from yesterday, and I think they could have been tweaked by substituting different shoes, a blazer or cardigan, different top, etc. It would be nice to see how to update and improve outfits we may already have in our closets. Thanks for putting yourself out there and for all the information!

  14. You look absolutely stunning JoLynne! I do believe this is one of my favorite outfits of all time that you’ve styled.  Gorgeous! Just absolutely gorgeous!

  15. So, so cute.  Love the whole look.  I just have a hard time buying these type of blouses this time of year, as I don’t get much use out of them before the colder/rainy days hit and I want something more cozy and Fall looking.  Its 60’s here now with clouds and sprinkles.  We had a dry, hot summer.  (NW Oregon). But…love the look of this blouse.

  16. Love this outfit. Great choice for you and many others. Savannah escaped this hurricane. We are so fortunate but prayers for NC and others in the path.

  17. I just got the LOFT sleeveless gray cowl neck you styled a couple weeks ago in the mail yesterday, and it is SO cute! I promptly wore it last night to a function with a black maxi skirt and my Tory Burch black patent miller sandals and lots of silver jewelry; got tons of compliments! Thanks for styling it!! Next time I will pair it with skinny jeans and flats. 😍
The coral print on your blouse today is very pretty, but being  long waisted I can’t wear LOFT wrap tops like that because they hit me too high and then the peplum would flare out at the wrong place too. Unfortunate but it’s cute on you!

  18. What do you think about a footwear update post?  Trends change so quickly it’s hard to stay on top of what’s In and what’s Out.
