Blush + Black

Greetings, friends, and welcome to 20 Days of Winter Fashion! I’m excited to launch my winter style series with my sweet friend, Cyndi Spivey. We will each be styling a new winter outfit every weekday during the month of November, taking a break over Thanksgiving weekend.

Pastels are usually thought of as spring and summer colors, but I also love wearing these pretty hues during the fall and winter when the weather can be so drab and grey.

Today I’m partnering with Kohl’s to style two sweaters in a gorgeous shade of pink. I almost called this post Blush & Bashful, haha! #namethatmovie

This SONOMA supersoft hoodie truly lives up to its name. It is sooo soft and cozy, and it has the prettiest knit pattern on the front. The hood is also a fun detail and gives it a sporty flair.

This is the Pink Blush color, and it runs true to size; I’m wearing a small for reference.

I often find myself wearing blush with grey, but I also like the contrast of pairing blush and black — especially for winter. Both of these outfits feature black jeans — one pair is a legging jean, and the other is more of a straight leg style.

These are the Levi’s 710 Super Skinny jeans. They fit great, but they run verrry small. I needed to size up to the 30, and I went with the short to get an ankle length, which is what I prefer with booties. They come in short, regular, and tall sizes, and I love how the Kohl’s website provides inseam lengths for each.

This SONOMA cable knit sweater caught my eye on the website weeks ago, and I linked it in a 5 Under $50 feature in one of my daily emails. When I was asked to do this post with Kohl’s, it was the first piece I put in my shopping cart.

Isn’t the pattern in the knit so pretty? It comes in a slew of gorgeous colors, but I was especially drawn to this Chic Mauve.

I paired this sweater with the Levi’s classic mid rise skinnies, and in this case, I wish I’d gone with the regular length.

These fit more like a straight leg jean, which is nice for a change, but I would like them better if they were a couple inches longer so they come down over the top of the bootie. I think they would look fabulous in that length, but I didn’t have time to order another pair before this shoot.

I’m planning to experiment with more straight leg styles during this winter style series, so stay tuned!

Speaking of these booties, these are a great choice for those of you looking for budget-friendly low-heeled booties. They’re amazingly comfortable and supportive with the Easy Motion ultralight insole, and the insides have a tricot lining that makes them so soft to slip your feet into.

I could totally walk all day in these boots, and I like how the back harness detail plays into the western-inspired trend that is popular right now.

I accessorized with these pretty silver circle drop earrings and a beaded stretch bracelet, and this grey satchel is the perfect everyday bag to take you from the carpool line to a dinner date with your family in style. The price is right too, it is actually under $30 on sale today!

  1. I think leaving yourself open to being more flexible during the holidays is a wonderful idea, Jo-Lynne. We all need to cut ourselves a break more often. And I think that especially applies to the holidays. Happy Thursday!

  2. I love your youngest daughters comment!  I don’t guess you want to know that we are just about done decorating for Christmas 🎄!  It’s our very favorite holiday, so we like to stretch out the length of time we have to enjoy the lights, etc.  So, Larry is going to be so mad at you for telling me about the big sale at Kohl’s today.  Ha!!😉 That is one of my top five stores to shop, even online.  I want the sweaters, if they are lightweight and that handbag.  I hope the severe weather impacting so many of us today and tomorrow doesn’t hit y’all.  Have a great day!

    1. I never decorate before the Thanksgiving turkey is put away, but I think one year I made an exception, and I actually really enjoyed it. This year, I’m not feeling it at all. At least not yet. It’s been such a late fall, weather-wise, and Thanksgiving is early this year, so I think I’ll wait till the weekend after. That said, my older daughter already has her room decked out for Christmas, and she’s been playing Christmas music for weeks.🤣

  3. Wow! Awesome deals on this stuff. Can’t wait to share this post with all my thrift store shopping friends…these sales on brand new are better than some of the consignment shop prices around here!

  4. I’d like to order Rodan + Fields lash boost , please provide link. I think you said you are a rep. The link I found just says to go to site and sign in but want to give you the credit. Please advise. Thanks!

  5. I was just thinking of that movie last night! It must be due for a re-watch. Love the mauve sweater. I have gotten spoiled with free shipping and returns that I don’t think to order from Kohl’s. At these prices, it would be worth a few dollars on shipping!

    1. Or you can do the online order with store pickup, if you have a Kohl’s close by. I actually can usually find enough things to add on to get to the free shipping threshold — I think it’s $75. They have a great housewares department, so I often add on a couple of new hand towels for the powder room or dish towels for the kitchen, or socks/underwear for one of the kids, etc. It adds up fast!

  6. Too funny to see this post today. I was in Kohl’s yesterday and saw the hooded sweater. I thought it was so cute and soft but was relieved they didn’t have it in my size on the rack. And, now your posting it. Hmmm, I’ll have to continue thinking about it.

  7. I think doing the 20 days of Winter Fashion now is a good idea. November is the time when we start wearing winter fashion as the days get chillier. Plus, things don’t sell out before you post. Good for us. On your side, you’re not scrambling to fit everything into December, which is a busy, busy month. Win/wn!
Far too early for me to decorate for Christmas but I think it’s sweet that your daughter is in the spirit already. perhaps, she can help you with the rest of the house.😉

  8. Love both sweaters ,especially the one with the hoodie and it’s in my cart but may have to stop by Kohl’s and try it on since the sleeves look long and I wear petite. I don’t mind pulling up the sleeves for that price 😃. Thanks for sharing.

  9. I think I need a grey or greige handbag… I am so excited you and Cyndi are starting the Winter session early. I am ready to start getting set for Christmas. Of course our Thanksgiving was the first weekend in October and I will be starting to decorate for Christmas next weekend… I have found that if I start early I have longer to enjoy all the work that goes into it, and run to the store for anything new or what needs replacing. I have already purchased a few new things. I think this may also be the first year for shall I say it an artificial tree, never thought I would go there but however. Change can be good and less messy. so we shall see.

  10. I’m so glad that you and Cindy are doing your winter series this month! I think more about buying clothes for winter in November. I turn my focus to Christmas shopping, baking and decorating in December and it’s nice to not have to worry about buying clothes.

  11. Thank you for featuring Kohl’s!  Love both of those sweaters!  I wanted the blush in the hoodie, but they don’t have it in petite.  I’m thinking about the barley heather instead.

  12. Love how you have paired the sweater with black. I have a creamy blush sweater that looks good with my blue jeans but does that color ever pop with the black! A must try!!

  13. I’m happy you kicked off your winter fashion series featuring head to toe looks from Kohl’s!  Love the sweaters and the prices are crazy good! Thank you and I’m looking forward to seeing more featured outfits from Kohl’s in the future 🙂

  14. Well, I had to go see the $8 sweater . I spent a ridiculous time at Kohl’s deciding what colors I should get. ( I ended up getting green and blue) For some reason, I liked the darker ones on me and rarely buy green. At that price, maybe I should have gotten one of each. 🤣🤣 I stopped at two, but they are cute and comfy! Thanks for the great tip!

  15. Love the two sweaters you’re styling. Actually bought the second one in an aqua shade, which helped score some Kohl’s cash I used today, along with 20% off and free shipping. For $125.00 I snagged a red London Fog pea coat, black leather jacket and two more sweaters. Such s deal!

  16. I’d love to see you do a gift ideas post for girls the ages of your daughters in the next few weeks (I have two daughters, too)! (And I love the Steel Magnolia’s reference…I still cry.)

  17. Love the Kohl’s posts!! Always great ideas. I’ve seen you with these jeans before, how is the recovery?  That’s my biggest pet peeve is when they bag/stretch out under the butt. Lol it looks sloppy. I’ve even sized down and still have that problem.   Thank you!!!

  18. I ordered this in the petite size. It is the perfect fit & length and doesn’t bunch at the hips like some sweaters do on me. The detail is beautiful and the teal marl is a gorgeous color! Love that Kohl’s features a great selection of petite sizes!

    1. Oops…I didn’t mention which one I ordered…it was the second one like your mauve! Some sweaters from Kohl’s don’t seem the best quality but this one is so soft and seems to be well made!
