Boho Chic: Pimento Red Floral Maxi Skirt

Welcome back to 27 Days of Spring Fashion! Today I’m going boho chic with this pimento red Free People floral maxi skirt and a denim jacket.

This skirt came in my last Trunk Club, and I love it! It’s flirty and fun, and it will be perfect for the conferences I have coming up next month and for dinners out this summer.

As the reviews suggest, this skirt runs a bit on the small side. I’m wearing my usual 8, but there is no room to spare. Since I don’t tuck my shirts in, it is fine, but if you like to tuck in, you will probably want to size up.

This black tee is the best I could do from my current closet, but I’m on the lookout for something with a scoop or V-neckline to wear with this skirt.

The denim jacket is the perfect topper for cooler spring days and draws the blues from the skirt to pull the look together. I accessorized with my Alila Lace Chandeliers and some gold bracelets, although I think I’ll add my Dalton Pendant with this in the future. It could use something on the front, don’t you think?.

Boho Chic: Put a Denim Jacket On It

I grabbed this black Baggallini clutch that I have from waaaaaay back. I felt like the outfit needed something that wasn’t too structured.

The shoes are also super duper old. They were always a summer favorite, but it’s been a few years since I’ve been able to wear heels. I’m going to have fun getting reacquainted with them this year! (THESE are quite similar.)

The skirt has a front slit, but it’s so full that you don’t really see much leg. I probably wouldn’t wear it to church, but it will be fun for going out with friends or my husband. (And yes, I promise to iron it before I wear it in public! HA!)

Here’s a back view.

This is why I love Trunk Club. I probably wouldn’t have picked this skirt off the website, and I’ve never considered boho chic my go-to style, but it’s definitely going to be a favorite this summer!

Trunk Club is a personal shopping service owned by and sourced from Nordstrom. You don’t pay a penny more than you would if you ordered online, and you have a personal stylist at your beck and call. She will send you a box with 15 carefully hand-picked items, and you only pay for what you keep. Shipping is free both ways, and you have 10 days to decide what stays and what goes back. There’s nothing to lose by trying it!

In case you’re wondering, I do not have a working relationship with Trunk Club. Like all Trunk Club customers, I get a referral link to share when I recommend it, and I earn credit to spend at Trunk Club when anyone signs up through my link. If you sign up with Trunk Club, you get your own referral link to share with your friends. It’s a win-win!

  1. That skirt is absolutely gorgeous!!! It looks amazing on you too. I would definitely wear it to my church. I love maxi skirts more than a maxi dress. They seem to work and fit my body better. I think having the shirt separate helps me.

    1. Yeah, I’d wear it to church except my daughter is mortified by the slit. I swear you hardly see any leg b/c the skirt is so full, but she was like, “Yeah, no.” Teenagers!!! LOL!

      1. So funny about your daughter! I think the slit is what sells the skirt for me. I love the look of maxi skirts, but sometimes I feel a like “Little House on the Prairie” in them.

  2. I just love this look! I’ve never really thought of bo-ho as a style that would fit my aesthetic, but you’ve inspired me to give it a try. Thank you!

  3. Wow, I wouldn’t have ever pictured you in this either! But it looks awesome on you! Love that bold color too!

  4. Maxi skirts are great- they flatter ALL women. I think everyone should have one. 🙂 Glad to see that we can still wear black in spring–saves me some $$
    xx-S

  5. What a flattering look on you! I’m surprised you chose this look but you look beautiful. We are supposed to have a cold Easter and this would be perfect! Keep stepping out of your comfort zone. You look amazing!

    1. I’m surprised too! Haha. I was going to return it, and then I decided to try it on with shoes and everything and see how it worked, and I decided I love it. It’s fun to venture out of my comfort zone a bit. The jean jacket and black tee keep it familiar enough.

  6. It is funny how we’re drawn to the same items over and over, yet there are other interesting ones out there that can be perfect too!! I think that’s what this blog has done for me—really made me try things I never would have otherwise!
Like that skirt—it’s gorgeous and quite a statement….and I’d totally wear it now—but not 2 years ago!! jodie

  7. Love this! Looks great on you! I like the black top & denim jacket you chose with it too. I can see this being dressed down a bit with some flat sandals or flip flops too. The colors are amazing on you! Pretty as always!

  8. I’m loving that skirt! It looks awesome on you. Fantastic colors! Might be my older age, but think I would have trouble wearing it to church with the slit as high as it is. But one could alway put some snaps below the last button to keep it from opening quite so high! I think maxi’s are wonderful and adding the jean jacket makes it more your style. Enjoy it!

  9. What a timely post! I was just wondering if maxi skirts are still in? I’ve never owned one but just recently saw a very cute one (didn’t buy it though).
The outfit looks great on you!

  10. I love the skirt and the overall look on you, Jo-Lynne! Question: When you sit, is the slit too high? I do love the skirt! I have a few maxi dresses I love wearing because they are so comfortable and giving.

    Have a blessed day!

    1. It depends on your comfort level. I mean, I wear short shorts in the summer, so to me, no biggie. BUT I also don’t want to be irreverent or inappropriate in church. For me, I think it’s fine b/c the skirt is so full, it is easily folded over to cover the legs. I would be aware of that and would just pull it together when I sit down. 🙂

      1. It’s good that the skirt is full enough to keep you covered when in public. It is a beautiful skirt! You’re lucky you can still wear short shorts.

  11. I love that skirt, and it looks great on you. 🙂 That’s the type of thing that I would wear all the time. I need to find something different to stretch my style. 🙂

  12. WOWto the whole outfit! I love Free People because it usually has a twist on new styles. Really love the whole kit and caboodle! Nice to see you step out of your comfort zone; you look fantastic! I would wear to church, work plus I have a conference coming up soon in Atlanta. The jacket would work for those air conditioned rooms and the outfit would b good for day or nite. Thanks for showing these pieces! Again, you look fantastic!

    1. Just had to comment. You have hit it “out of the park” with this skirt and shoes! Think of what you can do with this! A new bomber jacket or a mexican inspired top or a black tank. SO versatile and stunning. Definitely gets you out of the (great) rut of skinnies and tops. LOVE LOVE LOVE. You look amazing!

  13. Cute, Cute, Cute!! The whole outfit is just great and it looks perfect on you. I love the split on the front and I would wear it to church 😉

  14. That skirt is really snazzy, I like it! I had a wonderful experience with Trunk Club and added 7 pieces to my wardrobe. I will definitely try it again after my credit card cools off :-). It really helped me to add some important pieces and now I probably could say I have enough with just a couple of exceptions. I don’t want to go back to that crowded closet look! Thanks for the referral!

  15. Sorry, I don’t like this on you. I would totally see you in a stripy or unicoloured maxi skirt that gives a more classic look. This is too much pattern. But have fun with it, the most important thing is that you like it.

  16. Di like the idea of it and you could still look good wearing a paper bag ???? But I find the whole outfit a bit heavy looking. I think it’s the colours and the black accessories. It’s just me though everyone else loves it. You will always be a great inspiration to me. Thank you

  17. I love the whole outfit! Those sandals are cool, too, and look comfortable. I like that you didn’t wear a necklace since the earrings make a statement. When I wear bigger earrings I can get away with a bracelet, since it’s farther away from the face, but a necklace is just too much. And, since there is metal on the jacket, a necklace might have been distracting.

  18. I think you need a different jean jacket. It looks to short in a lot of your outfits. But that is my opinion.

      1. The cropped jacket is perfect. A longer jacket might make that gorgeous skirt look hausfrau-ish, and what a shame that would be!
