Boho Chic Summer Style

Happy Friday, friends! Cheers to another weekend! 🥂 I’m getting in touch with my boho side today.

Okay, let’s be honest. I don’t have much of a boho side, but sometimes it’s fun to change it up a bit, and there are ways to make boho look a little more refined and classic.

I found this floral peasant-style tassel tie top at Old Navy, and I thought the print was fresh and fun. It’s also a great price — it comes down to $18 in cart!

A voluminous top like this can add visual weight to those of us who are larger on top; but in this case, the V-neck helps de-emphasize the chest, and a front-tuck helps define my waist.

The flutter sleeves are feminine and flirty, and the armholes don’t gape or show your bra. You can tie the tassels, but I prefer to leave them open so they create a flattering V-neckline.

If personal your style leans more towards the boho side, you might wear this top with a pair of flares and Birks, but I paired it with crisp white denim shorts.

These shorts are casual enough to keep the look carefree and easy, but still clean and classic.

If you like the look but not the price tag, J.Crew has a similar pair for less, and J.Crew Factory has this pair at an even lower price.

I had fun with my shoes and accessories.

This rattan crossbody adds an earthy touch and is perfect for casual summer looks. It’s more playful and fun than my usual leather tote or structured crossbody.

And I like how the cork layer on these platform sandals ties in the brown from my rattan bag, and the white leather keeps the look crisp and clean. They also come in blush, cognac, and black.

These sandals are very comfortable, and they have good support for finicky feet. They run true to size, and they’re 40% off right now!

For jewelry, I wore a Lucky Brand bracelet and earrings, along with my initial pendant necklace.

Lucky Brand is my go-to for casual fashion jewelry that won’t break the budget, and it works particularly well with the boho chic vibe I’m going for here.

I borrowed my sunglasses from Alison, so I don’t have a link, but I like how the dark wire frames complement this look.

If you’re looking for a few more Old Navy items to get to that $50 free shipping minimum, this slub-knit tee is super cute in the pink camo and indigo tie dye, this linen blend henley has been popular among JLS readers this summer, and I just got these shorts in the floral camo, and they’re really good!

Also, my 16-y/o daughter has this smocked slub knit maxi dress, and it’s super cute on her. Size up, she has it in the small.

  1. I purchased the J. Crew outlet white denim shorts you had posted about, and they arrived yesterday (that was fast!) They fit great! My husband kept complimenting me in them when I tried them on. I also bought a pair of sunglasses and a t-shirt (graphic with a New England theme.) I rarely wear t-shirts, but this one was cute. Makes me look a bit like a tourist, even though I live here haha!
I just ordered some items from Old Navy (work out capris, sports bra, tank top), and I hope they all fit. Great sale prices!
Have a great weekend! I think the weather is supposed to warm up, a lot!

  2. I just love your writing style.  You have a way of showing different styles and high/low price points while making all of us feel right at home.  Here’s a potential post idea:  I’m wanting to level up my casual wear for fall and winter, with long sleeve tees, light sweaters (I live in a warm climate), and sweatshirts…comfy but still current.  I know where to look (thanks to you) but a post on this could be popular with many readers.

  3. You look so pretty in the close-up photo!!
I am pretty sure you are aging backwards!
    👍🏼☺️
What a fun outfit; I looked at the other patterns in that top and they’re all really cute, and versatile-I would never think to tuck it in but it works!

  4. You can wear the boho style well! I love the top. I’ve got some old navy cash so I may have to add this to a few other finds! It would be a good transition top by the looks of it for early September with a denim jacket.. We are away as a family for a few days at a cottage for a change of scenery in a neighboring province. It’s going to start getting hot again looks like we will be in  the high 90’s to 100 Again.. that’s ok because this past week was cooler…
    Have a great weekend

  5. What about the sunglasses?  That is my favorite part!  Could you tell me where those are from?  Thank you.

  6. Oh, how pretty that top is and how great you look in this outfit!  I am crushing over those sandals, but I do not need another pair of sandals in my closet.  But, I guess I could donate a few pairs then I could use these.  It looks like they might have decent arch support, and I think my very weak ankles would be supported enough since they are wedge sandals.  Boy, I sure am justifying buying them, aren’t I. 🤣 It’s dangerously hot and humid down here and will be for the next 10 days.  It’s miserable even at 7:30 a.m.  Poor David!  I guess spraining one ankle just wasn’t enough.  Have a fabulous Friday!

  7. I love a little bit of boho and I think the top is the perfect piece, also like it paired with white shorts. This is something I could go to my closet now and replicate. Thank you! Also love your longer hair, very pretty and feminine 🙂

  8. I never think about my sunglasses as an accessory but rather, a necessity. Looking at these pictures sure have convinced me otherwise. I can’t believe how great they look with your outfit!

  9. You look very cute, but I wouldn’t describe this as a boho look. Are you thinking that because of the tassels? This floral blouse reminds me a lot of the Sanctuary top you styled in the spring (which I ended up buying and I love it….although I have no where to wear it. 🙃 Life here is so upside down.) You look great though and this is a perfect summer outfit!
We’ve been having my favorite weather this week: 75, breezy, warm in the sunshine but cool in the shade. I cherish our June and July in CA because once August hits it usually becomes hot, dry, and miserable through September. We don’t get the humidity that you guys do so I put a humidifier in the bedroom in those months otherwise my skin turns to lizard-like!

  10. How will you wash that shirt so the tassels won’t get ratty looking after a few machine cycles? That’s always my problem.

    1. I’ll wash on delicate and hang dry, and try to smooth them out when I hang it, just with my fingers. It usually works okay. I had a shirt with these tassels that I loved and kept it nice for several years.

  11. You look beautiful — love your outfit and your hair! For a post idea, would you consider writing about how you style your hair different ways and what products you’re using right now? I’m having a terrible time getting my hair to behave in the extreme heat and humidity Nebraska is experiencing right now. I would enjoy hearing about any tips you might have and products you are using that help you maintain your hair styling efforts once you head out the door.
