Leopard Print: Now & Later

Greetings, friends. I have a special treat for you today! I’m teaming up with Kay Harms from Dressed for My Day to style a leopard print top for now and later.

I actually got to meet Kay when she was in my area for work a few years ago. We met for breakfast and chatted for hours as if we were old friends. At the time, she was reading my blog, but soon after that, she started her own. It has really taken off, and a lot of you probably know her already.

If you’re here visiting from Kay’s blog, welcome! I’m a 48-year-old mom of three, retired schoolteacher, and accidental fashion blogger. I started this blog almost 15 years ago, back before blogging was a business, but I’ve enjoyed being part of the evolution of the industry. It was definitely a happy accident!

I live with my husband and kids in the suburbs of Philly, and my style is what I call casual chic. You will usually find me in jeans and a simple top, but I enjoy playing around with shoes and accessories to elevate these basic looks.

Kay and I thought it would be fun to partner up for a Now & Later style collab, and we both ended up styling a leopard print top, although I’m in a tee and she’s in a blouse. I’m also wearing the rag & bone boyfriend jeans I picked up at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.

rag & bone is one of my favorite premium denim brands, and the Dre has been around for years, but I’ve never had a pair until now. I typically gravitate to skinny jeans, but I like the slim, straight fit of these boyfriend jeans for a change.

I particularly like this medium wash with subtle whiskering and fading for a broken-in look and feel. They have a 27″ inseam, and I gave them a single cuff for more of a cropped fit, which I like with ankle boots.

FYI, this style runs very big. I typically wear a 28, and I sized down to the 27 in these.

Speaking of the ankle boots, I love the details, and the low shaft makes them easy to pair with ankle-length jeans of all leg styles.

Here’s a closeup with a different pair of jeans. These booties run small; I recommend sizing up half.

On top, I wore this fun leopard print tee, which is now sold out.

I’ve found a few other options for you, though. As luck would have it, leopard tees are pretty easy to find right now. I’ll link up the other options in the shopping widget below.

Finally, I carried this fun stripe crossbody.

Unfortunately, it sold out too, but hopefully it shows how a great bag can complete an outfit — especially one as simple as jeans and a t-shirt.

I can start wearing this outfit right now, and I’ll throw on a cardigan and change out the boots for an entirely different look when it gets cold in a few months.

This open front cardigan is another #NSale purchase. It’s a luxe 100% cashmere with a relaxed shawl collar and extra-long ribbed trim on the cuffs and hem.

I don’t like it when my cardigans are too voluminous, so I sized down to an XS for a closer fit. I feel like it’s more slimming this way.

I love the length — right below the hips. It’s long enough to be cozy, but not so long as to be awkward to move around in. It’s also short enough to fit under my long puffer coat on super cold days.

I also changed my boots for this later look.

These black suede Chelsea boots with the lug sole are heavier than the taupe boots shown above, both in color and in volume. They help balance out the chunky black cardigan, and they also allow me to wear socks for added warmth.

In fact, if it was really cold, I would wear knee-socks, and un-cuff the jeans so they fall over the shaft of the boots.

Or I might leave the cuff and let the socks show. I’d need to play around with it and see which I prefer, but both are good options that would keep my legs warm.

Either way, this look will definitely take me well into fall and even winter here in PA.

I hope you enjoyed this Now & Later style collab! Be sure visit Kay and see how she styled a leopard blouse for now and later.

    1. Suede – I had to decide before taking these pictures because once I wear them outside, I would never return them. 🙂 I think b/c they’re weather proof, they will be find for drizzly, messy weather. If it’s a big snow or rain event, I would just wear rain boots or snow boots.

  1. I really like the look of leopard print shirts, until I try one on.😟 For some reason they always look like too much or too loud or something. I tried the Amazon option you have linked with long sleeves but plan to return it. I’m 5’2″ with dark hair and the right skin tone with some extra weight in my mid-section. In theory leopard print should look fine! Any advice/ thoughts?

    1. Jennifer,

I am 5,2 as well with a little fluff in the middle , too. I find that sometimes smaller patterns work better but also it depends on where the colors are placed when I have it on.  It’s usually hit or miss , so you just have to try different ones to see what works. I know that’s not very helpful but wanted to let you know my experience.

    2. I’m not sure, although Julie may have a point about the size of pattern or placement. Also, sometimes I love something on others, but every time I put it on, I don’t feel good in it. So maybe it’s just not your thing?

The other thing I would suggest is try layering a jacket or cardigan on top. I have a few tops that I only wear with a jacket on top. I feel like they’re too much on their own, but the jacket covers up most of it and allows them to just be an accent to the outfit.

  2. Cute pre fall outfit. I really like the tee but didn’t get it before it sold out but I have the Talbots short sleeve leopard sweater you styled in the spring and never got to wear it because of the virus lockdown then, and now it’s too warm but when our weather turns cooler it is a good outfit inspiration. Unfortunately we’ve had temps over 100 degrees in south Texas for weeks now.
I also tried to get that TB handbag but it sold out quickly. What do you think if the quality? I read a few reviews and some thought the gold chain looked or felt cheap?

  3. Those jeans are SUPER flattering on you!!!  Either you have lost more weight or they are just very slimming and  I need to run and get them!! 😉

  4. I love that you and Kay teamed up for today’s post!  What great outfits that you look so nice in.  I have ordered the leopard print tee from Amazon; hopefully it will fit and I will like it.  As of today our highs are supposed to be in the 80’s thru most of next week.  And now, with the tropics heating up, GA is closely watching the paths because some models show us being impacted mid next week.  Make it a great day!

  5. I love those black booties!! How do they look with skinny jeans, I tend to wear a lot of that style.
I have a pair of Steven Madden Chelsea boots that I love, but these are so cute too!

  6. Great post. I love the outfit on you.  Your hair coloring etc. look so great with the black.  The jeans really look nice on you.  My eye is slowly getting adjusted to the non skinny jeans. Did I say that?????? LOL  Yesterday I found a fairly new pair of LOFT jeans in the back of my closet that have the wider leg at the bottom and were just to long and I never wore them anymore. I decided to try them on and see what they’d look like hemmed. I turned them up 4 1/2″ and they looked really cute as the crop, wider leg jean. So, yesterday I was off the the alteration lady and to have her hem them with the nice hem.  I’m excited to get them. I was thinking they’d be too low waisted but actually they fit at good spot.  I found other jeans I had saved in the back of  my closet, just incase they came back in and the bootcut weren’t bad either. 🙂 LOL

  7. Wow!!! I love this entire outfit!!! I see you got the Tory handbag! Love it!!

I am getting some deliveries today!! Yay!!

    Have a Blessed day!

    Cindy

  8. I found this so inspiring I physically got out of my chair and styled the “now” version for tomorrow and hung it on the back of my closet door. It won’t look EXACTLY the same as yours of course, but pretty darn close if I do say so myself for a closet-shopped version. Thanks! It’s so hard to find outfits I actually want to wear in this time period every year. The weather says summer but my brain’s on to fall.

  9. Great outfit… of course I’m a leopard print fan😉. Checked out the Nordstrom Canada sale on line today,  what a flop!!! They must of had everything in store, as there was very little on line. Really disappointed. Plus we have no stores here or even close. Oh well 🤷‍♀️ life goes on.

    1. Well it’s weird but I just spent the last 2 hours on the Nordstrom Canada website and they had a whole bunch of items that they didn’t have this morning 🤷‍♀️. Got some Christmas shopping done 🤗

  10. Hi Jo-Lynne. What fun this was. And crazy how we both ended up in animal print. Well, ‘it’s the season! Ha! Thanks so much for collaborating with me on this. I appreciate the opportunity to meet so many of your readers today. 🥰
