Budget-Friendly Date Night Look

Happy Friday Eve, my friends! This week has been a bit of a doozie, and I’m definitely ready for the weekend. Today I’m teaming up with Walmart to bring you a budget-friendly date night look featuring one of fall’s biggest trends — animal print.

I set out to put together the type of look I like to wear when going out with my husband or girlfriends on the weekends. You know me, I’m all about pairing a fun top with jeans, and when it’s cool enough, I like to top it off with a fitted jacket.

This leopard print cami creates the perfect focal point for this outfit. It does require a strapless bra, or you can just leave your jacket on and not worry about that (which is what I do.)

This open front blazer is a great little completer piece that can take you from the office to dinner. It’s lightweight enough to keep on when you’re inside, and it has a really flattering shape to it.

I also like that ruching detail on the 3/4 length sleeves. For size reference, I’m wearing the small in both the cami and blazer.

These black skinny jeans are by Levi’s, and I wanted the 8 Short so they would be ankle length, but only the 8 Regular was available, so I actually cut them off to make them the right length.

My photographer, Alison, even showed me how to roughen up the edge a bit so they didn’t look just cut clean off. With raw hem jeans being on trend right now, this is a great little “tailoring” hack if you don’t want to spend the money or time on alternations.

I’m always a sucker for an open toe bootie this time of year, and this vegan suede pair is a nice alternative to pricier leather and suede booties.

With a 3″ stacked heel, these shoes are very comfortable to walk in, and the top of the shaft is soft against my leg.

I accessorized with a Lucky Brand bracelet and earrings, and I carried this O-ring clutch. This clutch also comes in snake print, by the way!

This outfit is perfect for a night out on the town, and each piece is easily mix and matchable with other components in your wardrobe.

If you’re looking for stylish and budget-friendly clothing options, don’t forget to check out Walmart. You just might be surprised by how much they have to offer, and they also have free 2-day shipping on eligible orders over $35.

Outfit Details:

leopard cami // open front blazer // black Levi’s skinnies // vegan booties // double drop earrings // two-tone bracelet // convertible crossbody

  1. I’m wearing a version of this at work today, with blue jeans, a chocolate-colored cardigan, loafers and a silky leopard print tank from TK Maxx (got it for just 12 euros). And just so no one points out a typing mistake, in Europe it’s TK Maxx, not TJ. 😉

  2. I’m curious if you actually keep the pieces you feature from Walmart or if you just style them for the readers that are looking for more budget friendly pieces?

    1. It depends on the item, but my collabs with Walmart are largely an answer to the call for more budget-friendly outfit ideas, and because I always get a lot of positive feedback when I do them.

    1. She basically took scissors and kind of “roughed them up” — not more cutting just kind of frayed them some more. I expect there are YouTube videos. It’s a great way to shorten jeans without spending time or money on tailoring.

      1. Using a fine toothed comb works really well too and is a little easier to handle than a scissors. After “roughing them up” with the comb and running through the laundry you get s really nice finish.

  3. Great outfit and price points. You and Cyndi were both on the same track today with a great fall outfit that incorporated the animal print.
    Have a great day
Also thanks for the tip on cutting the jeans. I tried all my jeans on yesterday to see where I was in what I wear the most and I have a pair I find too long and don’t want to roll up.. do you just lay flat and cut equal amounts off? Or do you use a marking technique?

    1. Yes, I noticed that when I got Cyndi’s email. 🤣

I just laid the jeans on the floor and lined them up and cut. I do have nice fabric scissors from like 20 years ago when I used to do quilting.

  4. Okay, so you need to share how you cut the jeans off to make them shorter and on trend!  The cami is so pretty!  Is the jacket made shorter in the back?  I love how Wal-Mart has upped their game.  And I agree, David sure is maturing in his appearance!  Have a great day!

  5. What a great look! Love the blazer, may have to check it out next time I’m at Walmart. I have a pair of jeans I’ve been planning on cutting off too, great idea to roughen them up a bit.

  6. Good morning! Cute outfit. Love the cami. When I clicked on the link I realized it is a Walmart.com item (Maurices). Just for clarity for everyone, these items (except the jeans) will not be available in the Walmart store. Have a great day and keep bringing us great fashion ideas. And your son is a cutie!

  7. Love the look. You mentioned that the outfit is from Walmart but when I look at the items you tagged it states Maurice’s. Is the entire outfit from Walmart or only a portion? Thanks for the budget friendly outfits. I wear a huge range of brands. Basically, if it looks good I really don’t care about the cost. LOL

  8. Love this outfit – I also like that you have a bit of ankle showing between your pant bottom and bootie.  It looks so much better to have it broken up …your hair is looking really great these days….are you trying any new products?

  9. I can recreate this outfit with items already in my closet!  I love when that happens!  I’m thinking of wearing it to church on Sunday. Even if it’s still hot, the 3/4 sleeves will make it feel fine. Thank you for the post!

  10. This is such a cute outfit!  Love the jacket with it.  I cut off a pair of jeans a couple of weeks ago, too.  I figured if the trend changes before I’m ready to give up the jeans, I can just cuff them up for crops later.  But it sure beats having to hem them!  Loved your post from yesterday with your son.  I agree with all the rest that he is looking so handsome and mature.  It is eye opening to watch our sons become men!

  11. Love the look! Great for a night out or pieces could be used for workwear. When I saw the blazer, I thought wow that looks like a couple of blazers I have from Maurices. It is strange that Walmart is selling premium brands and other brands. I guess for Maurices clothes, I would rather shop at a Maurices store or their website rather than purchasing through Walmart.

  12. Sorry Jo-Lynne, but I have to add on to my comment from earlier. As I said before, this outfit is great and you look awesome in it. My issue is that the two prominent pieces, the cami and blazer are from Maurices. I think for a Walmart sponsored post, you should have went with Walmart brands. I have read comments from other people on the post and social media who think these pieces are Walmart’s. I don’t have an issue with Walmart selling items from other retailers, just the misconception of these items. Should have done a Maurices sponsored post.

  13. I love how you just cut off the black jeans to make them the right length and they look great with the shoe you chose!  The fray look is in too.

  14. Pretty outfit all the way around. Hey, can you share how to rough up the hem of your jeans as Alison showed you? Would be a great tip to know. Thanks, and love your blog!!

  15. Can you tell me how to cut and roughen the hem?  haha maybe a quick little tutorial?  I have some Ive been wanting to do also!  You look great!  Love your blog!

  16. Hi. The “tailoring” that you did on the Levi jeans from Walmart to get the frayed edges…. how did you do it?
