But the day is young.

The wedding rehearsal went seamlessly last night, at least it did from my perspective.  Of course I had the luxury of being one of the family members who got to sit back and watch — all the fun and none of the stress, JUST the way I like it!  Both kids did their parts beautifully, and I think they are ready for tonight!  I WISH I had pictures.  This seems to be a recurring theme in my posts lately.  I’m always too lazy to haul along my camera, and then I bemoan the fact that I have no photos.  I’m the worst kind of annoying.

The rehearsal dinner was lovely.  Hats off to my sister-in-law, who hosted it at her house.  I have two words for anyone hosting a rehearsal dinner in the near future, so listen carefully.  Heavy hors d’oeuvres. I suppose that’s three words, isn’t it?  Whatever.  Rather than a formal meal, she had the party catered with lots and lots of heavy hors d’oeuvres, and even better, she had them served by wandering waiters (is there a formal term for that?) so you didn’t have clusters of people hovering around the serving table.  There was more food than you could shake a stick at, although I don’t know why anyone would shake a stick at food.  Where do these sayings come from?

Of course I ate too much and felt like I’d swallowed a balloon for the last half of the night, but it was SO worth it.  (And I wonder why I have digestive issues.)

But enough about the food.  Let’s talk about the weather.  What IS it with this spring/summer?  Spring felt like winter, and now summer feels like spring.  I shouldn’t complain.  We have had a succession of gorgeous, sunny, 82-degree days.  We haven’t even had to turn on the air conditioner except for 2 days back in May when ironically, the outside temperature didn’t even break 80, but the humidity was so ridiculous we couldn’t stand it another minute.  But since then it’s been utterly delightful, and this weekend is no different.  I can’t imagine anything worse than rain on your wedding day, so I’m thrilled that our happy little couple has such nice weather for their wedding weekend.

And listen to me with the happy little couple, like I’m old Aunt Bertha or someone.  Speaking of being the old aunt, I did feel really old last night.  My other sisters-in-law and I were commiserating that exact fact.  We were clearly the older crowd at the party.  When did that happen?  Can someone enlighten me?  Just you wait, you young’uns.  It happens overnight, with absolutely no warning.  One day you’re one of the young beautiful people, and the next day you’re the old aunt crowing over how cute all the young people are.

I have too much to do today to be sitting here, and if you’re one of my design clients that I’ve been putting off for the past week and a half, I’m afraid the wait ain’t over.  My sincerest and humblest of apologies.  This summer is kicking my trash, and there’s just no getting around it.

And now it’s time to Shred.  TTFN.

  1. This whole getting older thing is strange. I don’t feel like I’m older. Reality hit this week when one of the little fellas I taught in kindergarten Sunday School just enlisted into the Marines and went off to bootcamp. How did he go from 4 years old to manhood in such a short time? Scary!

  2. I know what you mean about the weather. We JUST turned our a/c on today for the first time in about a month. I’m a ways west of you, but I think you probably get our weather a day or so after we have it. So next week, get ready!

  3. i am sticking my tongue out at you….it has been over one hundred here for so many days I can’t remember how many….heat index at 105. My air conditioner runs all day long. but really, i love texas!!

  4. I laughed aloud when I read this post…and then I laughed some more. You have some fantastic one-liners in this piece. You must have been feeling really inspired.
