Casual Spring Work Wear Look

I get a lot of requests for work wear looks, and while that’s not exactly in my wheelhouse, I try to stretch myself a few times each season and see what I can come up with.

I had fun putting this look together from Lord + Taylor. You’ll have to let me know how I did!

Spring Work Wear Look with Lord & Taylor

Lord + Taylor has a nice selection of wardrobe essentials and work wear basics, and right now you can save up to 30% off anything in-store or online through Monday, March 25th! It’s a great opportunity to stock up on basics or add a fun, trendy piece to your spring wardrobe.

This 3/4 sleeve knit sweater is a great spring basic, and it’s a L+T Fave — a collection of high quality customer favorites exclusive to Lord + Taylor.

It comes in a bunch of fresh colors for spring, and it has a classic fit with a slightly relaxed styling that makes it perfect for dressing up or down. It runs TTS (true to size); I’m wearing the small, for reference.

This Lucky Brand 3 chain necklace is a beautiful compliment to the crew neckline.

On the bottom, I’m wearing another L+T Fave — these high rise plaid ankle pants.

Plaid pants are trending this spring, and I like this subtle grey-on-blush print. They make a nice work wear piece, but they’re also practical enough for daily wear if you want an alternative to denim.

For size reference, I’m wearing the 8, but I think the 6 would look better.

These patent peep-toe wedges are great for ladies who can’t wear heels but want a little extra height, and the light natural color is super versatile. I like how it complements the pink and grey without being too matchy.

For a more casual weekend look, my white woven mules would be a nice alternative.

A denim jacket may not be appropriate for every workplace, but I think it makes a nice contrast against the light neutrals in this outfit.

This one is a cropped style, and it has a nice mid-indigo wash that goes with just about anything. I have the medium, for reference.

I’m thinking this look would be nice for teachers or those who work in more casual office environments, or even for church or conference type of venues. Let me know what you think!

And if you’re in the market for some spring wardrobe essentials, be sure to take a look through all of the L+T Faves while they’re up to 30% off!

  1. Very pretty color combo! I especially like the outfit with the cropped jean jacket! I love the layered necklaces that are so popular right now but has anyone found a solution to keeping them from tangling in an hour of wearing them? I find I spend way to much time re-adjusting them throughout the day.

    1. Nancy, I too have a terrible time with tangling. I am looking for a solution. I purchased one that was featured and I still have issues with it. GRRRR!

      1. My daughter showed me a jewelry gadget on Etsy called a jewelry spacer for layering necklaces. But it’s designed to assemble your own layered look using three separate necklaces. It’s supposed to prevent tangling but this doesn’t resolve the issue with all ready made layered necklaces.

    2. I don’t know, I get this question a lot, but I don’t have such a hard time with tangling — not that it doesn’t happen, but not terribly. Maybe because I don’t mind if they’re not perfect. I think it looks better if they’re crossed over each other a bit. But if they get really tangled, I just hold them out and separate them. It only takes a second. My bigger issues is storage. That is when I get them really tangled sometimes. I try to be careful and hang them up right away, and I do avoid traveling with them.

      1. I have this problem too with long layered necklaces. I thought it was just maybe my work atmosphere (a teacher) and I’m always on the move, bending over, lifting arms up, walking around quickly, teaching PE 😂 etc…..So I tend to avoid the long necklaces at work (although today I wore a single pendant necklace and it worked fine)

  2. Jo-Lynne, while workwear is not your thing, you did a very nice job putting this outfit together.  I can see the sweater as being a piece that can be worn by those that are no longer in the working world.  Have a great day!

  3. Love that outfit on u. One day can u style some floral pants. I’ve seen a few out. I’m not a dress person so thought an alternative for Easter. Our church is casual.

  4. This is another great outfit!  You asked for feedback, so, I think a gray sweater might look a tad better.  The overall effect here is a little “pale”.  Every week when you do your recap, I’m amazed at all you’ve shown us in such a short time.  Thank you!

  5. I love this look!! I would need to wear a blazer instead of the denim jacket, otherwise it’s a perfect Workwear outfit. Loving those shoes!!

  6. Love this outfit and could totally wear it to my office! 🙂 Thanks for stepping outside your comfort zone for us! I do agree that you could go down a size in the pants. These would also look great in the fall with a black or grey sweater.

  7. This outfit looks great. It’s work appropriate but it’s still got a lot of personality. If I were to see this in an actual office setting, I’d think that lady looks like she really has it together. Lord and Taylor is really bringing it lately, and good sales, too!

  8. Loved the Outfit! If I still worked in an office instead of at home, this outfit would be perfect. I agree, you could size down in the pants. I used to find I would have to size down in quality work pants.

  9. Love the pants! What size pants do you normally wear? I’m usually a size 8 and want to order them…not sure if I should go with the 6 or 8. Thanks!

  10. Very cute! That sweater is a great basic! I agree with you that the pants are too big. You’ll definitely look sleeker with a closer fit. Would you consider a partial tuck since the pants are high waisted?  I think your legs would look really long and it would give you some structure, especially with the jean jacket.

All in all these are super smart choices for someone who works since the pieces can all be worn so many ways!

  11. Hi Jo-Lynne-  I love this look! Thank you for putting a work wear look together as part of your spring series!   You did a great job !  Are the shoes comfortable ?   Do your feet slide forward at all ?  I ask because I have bony feet  and I am always looking for workwear shoes that look classy . 😬

  12. I love the outfit and the shoes!!! I am a preschool teacher and l would wear this outfit!!! It’s perfect!!
