Daily Mom Style: Casual Weekend Outfit

Good morning from Disney World! We flew down yesterday, got settled in at the Grand Floridian, and made it over to the Magic Kingdom in time for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. I thought it was going to be hard to get into the Christmas spirit when it’s 85 degrees in November, but the magic is contagious once you’re here.  I’ll be sharing the highlights from our trip on Instagram and Facebook, if you want to follow along.

Meanwhile, it’s Day 3 of 25 Days of Fall Fashion!

I’ve been wanting a pair of slip-on sneakers to wear with my more casual outfits, and I’m always drawn to outfits with Converse on Pinterest. But I swear, I’ve tried on Converse about 158 times in the past several years, and every time, I feel like I’m wearing clown shoes. Whenever I confess my Converse issues to someone who has them, they always swear they felt the same way at first, and then they promise me that I will get over it and I’ll love them.

So last weekend, I finally decided to bite the bullet. I was at Nordstrom for their anniversary sale, and I started trying on ALL the Converse. (I also tried on Superga, Keds, and Vans. I’m nothing if not thorough.)

I debated the new Converse II with the cushioned footbed (much more comfy), but they weren’t on sale and they didn’t have my size in stock. I debated white or grey or blue, and I debated which size I should get. There was a lot of debating going on, as my 10-year-old can attest. She was bored out of her gourd.

In the end, I came home with these white Converse Chuck Taylor® ‘Shoreline’ Sneakers that are on sale for $39.98.

I couldn’t wait to wear them so when I realized I had nursery duty on Sunday morning, I decided try an outfit I’d seen on Pinterest — blue jeans, white graphic tee, black moto jacket, and white Converse. I really of wanted to wear a graphic tee, but I don’t currently have a white one. (Hmmm… Must remedy.)

Let’s discuss these jeans for a minute. I’ve had these AG Stilt Cigarette Leg jeans for a few years now, and they used to get a lot of wear. This fall, the DL1961 Emma has become my go-to casual jeans, but for this outfit, I wanted the looser fit of the AG. They retail for $215, but they are currently 25% off at Bloomingdales with the code HOLIDAY. In fact, I got mine a couple years ago at the Bloomies Friends & Family event!

These Mykita Bernhard Willhelm Franz F8 sunglasses are on loan from Eye Heart Shades. They have provided me with an exclusive discount code — JLSHANE15 — that you can use to get 15% off any Eye Heart Shades purchase. I thought the oversized white aviator style was especially cute with this outfit.

The leather cord on the pendant makes it the perfect mix of tough and casual for this outfit. And yes, I realize that I have now worn this necklace for 3 posts in a row. That is exactly how versatile it is! I find myself going for it to complete an outfit time and time again. I really wish I could find something similar to link you to. If you know of something, please let me know!

Isn’t this the perfect Saturday outfit!? I love it.

  1. Dahling, you look Mahvelous!! A sharp looking outfit for a lot of occasions! I think I’m going to add a black jacket of similar style to my wardrobe. As a 60 year old active “stay at home Grandma”, I think this would give me an updated look that is versatile. I’m so thanking you for all your casual looks! I’m a curvey 5’4″ gal, so I need to watch my proportions in clothing. I’ve been able to adapt many of your looks for my height and size.
Enjoy your time at Disney! Back in the day, we took our daughters every 2 years until they graduated from high school. And our favorite time to go was the Sunday after Thanksgiving and stay a week. And we never missed a Mickeys Very Merry Christmas party. It really puts you in the mood for the holidays!
Prayers going out to all those who have been affected by the events in Paris. Our son-in-law has been in transit since Wednesday from his 6 month tour in Afghanistan, with an expected arrival in the States on Monday. We’ve been praying for a safe journey…..

  2. Well I’m so glad you finally bit the bullet and got them (and not just because I’m eager to get new ideas from you, lol)! This is a super cute look, and you pull them off like you’ve been wearing them forever!
I’ve had the classic style for years, but it wasn’t until I got the shoreline that I was able to really wear them with anything. The daintier profile really helps with the clown shoe fear, lol.

  3. I felt the same way about Converse. So cute but felt I couldn’t pull them off until I found the ones that you have. Mine are in blue and I absolutely love them!!!!

  4. Love the whole outfit! My kind of style. The Converse look great on you. I have a pair of white Converse that I love but when I look down at my feet, I feel like I’m wearing boats. I bought a pair at TJMax a couple of months ago – they are periwinkle blue and are specifically for women and my feet Don’t look like bosts any more????! And they were a great buy ($29)!

  5. You look awesome in that outfit Jo-Lynne! Do the Converse sneakers have good arch support? Playing Christmas music is really helping me to get in the Christmas spirit even more. In a way I feel a bit guilty going about my normal life smiling with what others in Paris are dealing with, but, we are meant to live life. No keep saying mini prayers for Paris and that’s the best thing I can do for them right now. Have a blast at Disney! God bless!

  6. Ahhh… Those were my first pair of Converse… now I have a pair in red, blue and gray! The red and blue come in handy for all of the UofA games here in Tucson, wearing my red ones today!! BTW I do love your outfit’ I’ll be copying you 🙂

  7. Love, love, love those Converse sneakers! Adding them to my “must get” list now. Since I already own similar pieces of this outfit, I have a feeling I’ll be wearing my own copycat version of this outfit often. Thanks for all the great inspiration Jo-Lynne!

  8. LOVE the shoreline although I bought the white with elastic at the back and lace overlay although you can’t really see the lace when you are standing so they just look plain white (which is really what I wanted but the only one my size in white was this style).

  9. I’m getting a pair of these Converse as well. It looks so wonderful on you and finishes off that younger casual look. I’ve never worn sneakers with the laces untied. Great effect.

  10. I haven’t stopped by in too long! I’m so glad I googled Thanksgiving outfit ideas! I plan on being a regular once more. I love the 25 days of Winter Fashion. You are killing it!

Okay, I had the same issue with Converse, but grew to love them! Then, my preteen took them over! Ha. Now, my go-to are Vans Classic Slip Ons. They look even more like clown shoes at first, but I found them to be so much more comfortable! I actually bought them the day we left for Disney World last February. They were awesome!

Looking forward to looking back through posts I’ve missed!
