Classic Camel & Black Outfit for Fall

Happy Friday, friends! I’m taking the easy way out again today and styling a simple pullover outfit, but this time I’m wearing pants instead of jeans.

I like this sophisticated look, but there’s one thing I would change if I could go back and shoot this outfit again. I’ll get to that in a minute.

Meanwhile, you may remember these Spanx pants from the #NSale. I styled them 5 ways a few weeks ago. They’re also available at Spanx.com, and they also come in petite and tall sizes. I have the medium in the regular length.

These pants are super flattering, but they’re definitely a legging fit. I love the elongating seam up the back of the leg and the small slit in the hem.

I’m also wearing my Marc Fisher Zala pumps. These are so comfortable, and I think the pointy toe with the chunky 3″ covered heel is a nice combination.

They run true to size, and you can find them at Bloomingdale’s or Nordstrom.

On top, I’m wearing the Weekend V-Neck Sweater from White House Black Market, and right now they’re doing a VIP Event with 30% off your full price purchase plus free shipping!

If you aren’t a WHBM Rewards member, it’s free to join, and it’s well worth it. There are perks for all levels, but once you reach Silver, which is only a $500 annual spend, you get 5% off every purchase at WHBM, in stores and online, plus free shipping on all orders. You also qualify for rewards and exclusive offers like this one.

This sweater is a rich camel color, and it has such pretty details, with a flattering v-neck and 3/4 length sleeves. It runs true to size; I have the small.

Because the outfit is rather plain, I added a few bold accessories. This Victoria Emerson Midnight Mist five wrap adds some sparkle to the look.

And these sleek, sculptural Geo Earrings from Ann Taylor make a nice complement to the camel sweater.

I went without a necklace, but I’m wishing I’d added one. Because the v-neck is fairly deep, I think I would prefer a statement necklace and smaller earrings.

This red tiger eye necklace would be stunning with it, or maybe this pendant.

Finally, I added a leopard hair calf clutch for pattern and texture. This clutch was a bit of an investment, but I’ve had it for years, and it’s still every bit as gorgeous as it was the day I got it. It really elevates the look and keeps it sophisticated and classy.

If I could shoot this look again, I would definitely add a statement necklace. Otherwise, I love how it turned out. I will definitely be wearing this out to dinner sometime soon!

  1. Beautiful outfit. I have to agree – a necklace would look great. I love camel and black. Either you or Cyndi styled a column of black with a camel cardigan last year, and I wear that often (black leggings, black camisole). Do you think leopard flats would also work with this outfit or it is better to keep the shoes the same color as the pants?
Can’t believe it is Friday again! Have a great weekend! Arna

  2. What a beautiful outfit that you look fantastic in!  I agree on wearing a statement necklace and smaller earrings. I hope that you did some reading and relaxation in this weekend.  We are about to have lows in the 50’s and highs in the 70’s, so we can turn off the AC and open the windows.  I can’t wait!  Make it a good day!

  3. What size sweater did you get? Some of the reviews say it runs small…also don’t know if you noticed that your link with the widget says Chico’s not WHBM

  4. I have been on the lookout for a pretty camel sweater and I adore this one! Thanks so much for the heads up! And it is even on a great sale. You made my day! Hope you have a lovely weekend. 😊

  5. Great outfit. About the necklace: what you have now is a perfect wear-to-work outfit. Adding a statement necklace would make the outfit much dressier – more appropriate for going out to dinner? I can see someone wearing this to work the way you have it and then adding the necklace (and probably changing out the earrings and clutch) to go out after work.

I can also see this with booties, a jean jacket and a scarf for a casual look in the cooler weather.

  6. Great look– so classic. My first impulse would be to add a longer necklace to this look. Are longer necklaces not in style anymore if they’re not used in layers?

    1. Yeah, I guess I just don’t care for a long necklace with a v-neck. I still see long necklaces being sold, but they can be awkward with a large chest, and I kind of like the simplicity of shorter necklaces or none at all.

  7. I don’t think you even need a big statement necklace. I wore a costume jewelry version of this with a camel top and black pants recently and received tons of compliments https://stephaniegottlieb.com/products/black-diamond-small-heart-necklace?variant=21178645774419 ( with a gold chain…my version was under $50)

  8. Beautiful classic outfit, great for fall, I bought the Spanx pants at the Nsale. The petite fit me perfectly. Have you washed them yet? because if they shrink, they’ll be too short on me.

  9. I love the camel and black. So classy. One of my favorite looks. Our weather is getting cooler too and I can see some of the trees already starting to change.

  10. You had me at 3/4 sleeve sweater. Love this outfit and I have those pants and love them. They’re a little thick so I’m waiting for it to cool down just a bit before wearing them  more. I’ve worn them already but know they will be my good to pants in the fall and winter.

  11. You look so pretty! Love the outfit! I have the midnight mist VE bracelet and love it – So sparkly! Have a wonderful weekend.

  12. I love this look it’s very classic and French looking. I really like it without the necklace and would wear a beautiful pair of earrings. Very very sophisticated.

  13. Did you get a small in the sweater? Sometimes WHBM runs big on the tops. I have those snake print Hazel pumps you wore the other day. I’m thinking they would be fun with this sweater and a pair of jeans for a night out…. ?

  14. Loving the 22 days of Fall. But would love to see what Paul is wearing too. His Nordstrom picks for men was so nice. Your idea of once a month would be terrific. It is great when they look good too!

  15. You look so pretty in this classic outfit! I’m definitely going to be trying a similar look this fall; I think this would look good on almost any age or size woman looking for a simple but classy look. I also love it when you analyze your photos and tell us what you might do differently next time. Have a wonderful weekend!

  16. Love this look, so simple, so classic. I was in a Talbots outlet store yesterday and they were clearing out summer wear in a big way. I found a classic camel sweater in the mix and instantly thought of this outfit. So fun to find fall and winter possibilities in end of summer sales.

  17. That clutch makes the outfit IMO. Every time you feature it, I want one! I did find a leopard cross body at TJMax, but it just isn’t the one!! Nice outfit! Have a great weekend and enjoy this beautiful weather!
