Classic Winter Wardrobe Staples with Talbots

Happy Monday, friends! Only 10 days till Christmas Eve… who’s ready? #notme

What I am ready for is this lockdown to be over. I know, I know… This too shall pass. And when it does, I’ll be all set to resume my daily activities with these classic winter wardrobe staples from Talbots.

I’m loving this gold vest with the removable fur collar for layering over all my favorite pullover sweaters.

It has a bit of a cinched waist in the back and two snap back vents — such nice details. It’s also down-filled with a fleece lining, so it’s warm as well as chic!

Unfortunately, it is low inventory… I’m so sorry! It was fully stocked when I ordered. It is well stocked in a lot of the other colors, though.

Underneath, I’m wearing this fair isle sweater in a combination of ivory and gold. It has a festive flair for the holiday season, but it can be worn all winter long.

This crewneck sweater is soft and comfortable with a classic fit, and I’m wearing my usual small. It also comes in petite, plus, and plus petite sizes.

These jeggings are another classic wardrobe piece, and the fit is very flattering. They do run big, though; I sized down to a 4.

And I’ve shown these chocolate brown suede booties before. I’m so glad they’re still in stock! Because they have a higher shaft, I wore them over my jeggings, and the side zippers make them easy to get on and off.

I’m very pleased with the comfort and quality of these boots. They’re a classic style that you should be able to wear for years, and they also come in black. They run true to size; the 8 is the perfect fit for me.

Finally. these gold twist hoop earrings are so classy and timeless, and they complement this look perfectly.

This outfit is perfect for casual outings, Christmas shopping, lunch with friends… I hope we’ll be back to doing all of those things very soon!

And speaking of classic winter wardrobe staples, I love this button cuff ribbed turtleneck sweater. The black and white stripes are so Parisian chic!

I kept this look simple with black denim jeggings and black mules. In this case, I’m wearing the jeans in a 6 petite.

I love the button detail on the sleeve, and it’s a soft cotton blend (no wool) so very comfortable against the skin. It runs true to size; I’m in the small.

And this little pebbled leather wristlet is an easy piece to carry with casual or dressy looks. It’s just big enough to hold a smartphone, card holder, lipstick, and facial tissues.

If you need gifts for Christmas, or just a few new winter pieces to brighten your day, it’s a great time to stock up because Talbots is doing their Cyber Santa Event where you can get 50% off your entire purchase through end of day today.

  1. This is such a cute look! It’s casual chic, which is my favourite style to wear. It’s perfect for the times we’re living in, right now. I found it interesting you said buying gifts is stressful for you. I figured you were a pro at it. I too find it stressful. I always feel like I don’t know what people really want & really don’t want to buy something they dislike.

  2. Girl you gotta get on the straight leg jean bandwagon.  All your boot problems will be solved.  I know you are struggling with it. But it makes all taller shaft boots look perfectly kewl.  🙂

  3. You look fabulous in both outfits. I love Talbots jeggings and jeans, and they carry my size and the quality and fit are always spot on. I am trying not to buy anything else for myself for awhile, but you’re making it hard, girl!

  4. Love the metallic color puffer vest with fur trim!  That is so casual yet chic and functional.  Talbots is upping their A  game.  I always thought of Talbots as a place where my mother, mother in law and their friends shop (no offense to anyone)…. can see now I was wrong!  The black and white striped sweater is a classic.  Will have to consider Talbots as another option.  Good luck at your photo shoot!  How do you decide where to do photo shoots?  Do people ever approach you and ask what you are doing?  Just curious…… says the introvert! Love the Christmas tree background at the outlet/ outdoor mall in this post.

    1. I actually used to shop at Talbots all the time in college and my early 20s. I loved their dresses, and I wore a lot of their sweaters and shoes too. I had a more preppy style back then, and I also don’t think they had the reputation for being for matronly at the time. I’m not sure when that happened, but it seems like they’re trying to appeal to a wider audience these days. They do modern classic, preppy styles well.

    2. Oh, I meant to say, we shoot at a lot of the same places — there are a few pretty, new outdoor shopping malls that have a lot of nice backdrops, sometimes we go into one of the small towns around here, and there are lots of great spots at Valley Forge National Park for outdoorsy shoots. Or here at my house, in the yard, etc. No one usually asks what we are doing, and if I get a strange look, I just smile and act confident, like I’m supposed to be there, and what I’m doing is totally normal. Ha!

  5. First off love the background for the pics.. beautiful tree. I’m like Yelena and felt Talbots was more for the more mature lady.(even though I have bought from there in the past) . I think I need to revisit that idea…really like that vest although it’s bitter cold here today feels like -6 but by 6 pm it will feel like -13 with the windchill and  yes finally having flurries and watching for a storm that might hit us mid to late week. Have a good one!

  6. I too thought Talbots was more matronly. But you and Cyndi have styled some cute things. Their prices are alittle high. I’ve never tried their brand to know quality. You look so cute in this outfit. One person said you should get on the straight leg bandwagon. I disagree. You look great in skinnies. I think straight leg can look matronly. But, I do know jean styles are changing so much. I just can’t get into the crop flare. I just don’t like anything flare on me.

    1. Talbots quality is excellent, I think you’d be pleased. And they do run some great sales too. I agree, a straight leg can be hard to pull off, especially a classic full-length straight. But boots and booties are starting to come out in styles that work better with straight, so it will probably start to look more modern in time. 🙂

  7. I have been a big fan of Talbots for years because of their quality and classic designs. you may pay a little more but these classics are wardrobe builders. love the pieces you have styled and always find something that I just can’t do without! haha!
