Coffee Talk + Adore Your Wardrobe Registration Info

Has this weekend flown for anyone else? I can’t believe it’s already Sunday. For not having much going on, my weekend really did fly by.

So I started watching the new Marie Kondo show on Netflix, and I’m full-on addicted. My husband and kids want to throttle whoever told me about it, haha! The production is a little cheesy, but I love watching people dump all of their crap in a big pile and then clean out every nook and cranny of their houses over the course of a month.

I wish they would spend less time on the person’s story and more time showing techniques for organizing, but I also get that they can’t give away all her secrets in the first show… or even the first season. So they seem to draw out a lot of the emotional stuff and spend less time on the actual process, but the more shows I watch, the more I understand why they do that. Purging is truly an emotional journey, especially if you’ve never really done it before, and I still pick up a cool new organizing tip in just about every show.

I’d been saying I wanted to clean out my closet again, so I did that yesterday. I didn’t try things on because I pretty much know how everything fits, but I did go through and handle each item and get rid of some things I haven’t been wearing, and I reorganized the space to work better for me. I’ll have Alison get a couple of pictures when she’s here this week because my iPhone pictures never turn out very good.

I also folded everything in my drawers the KonMari way, which I don’t usually do, but after watching her teach her clients on the show, I could see that I wasn’t doing it quite right before, and it works out so much better now. I have to admit. It really is very satisfying!!!

Here’s a link to her book, if you haven’t seen it. It’s not just about clothing, either. That is just the first step of the process. She goes through every area of the house and tackles things in a specific order that makes sense when you read the book (or watch the show.)

I definitely have some areas in my kitchen that need an overhaul. I’m looking at you, pantry!!! So I’m planning to work on that this afternoon.

And speaking of getting our lives organized, registration for the next round of Adore Your Wardrobe starts today!

For the uninitiated, this is an online course designed by Kelly Snyder to help you demystify fashion with the principles of math and science. Kelly teaches the science and math, formulas and rules behind creating an amazing looking silhouette on your individual body.

Adore Your Wardrobe made SUCH a difference in how I view my body and how I dress myself. Don’t believe me? Look back through my blog archives, and see the outfits I was wearing 3 and 4 and 5 years ago. YIKES!!!

I don’t always get it perfect now, but I’ve come a long way, and AYW was a big part of that evolution.

In this course, you start by determining your unique body type, and then you learn what styles and colors look best on you and how to put outfits together that create proper balance and proportion.

I’ve had people ask me to address these topics on the blog, and I try to slip some tips in here and there, but there is no substitute for the personal attention you get in a course like this. Plus I’d never want to compromise Kelly’s course by sharing information here that is for paid members only. I do always try to be mindful of that, but honestly, there is so much about this course that is personalized to your individual body type that it’s impossible to convey even a fraction of it in blog post format. You really need to take the course to learn how to apply the information.

Adore Your Wardrobe‘s Signature Course will be open for registration from January 6th through January 13th, with classes starting on January 14th. The price is $219 for the Designer Membership, and that is the one I’d recommend taking.

Yes, it is an investment, but as Kelly says, “for the cost of one bad outfit” you can learn how to dress for your unique body and quit wasting money on styles that don’t work for you. CLICK HERE to learn more or sign up through my referral link.

So with that, I need to get myself geared up to run! It’s in the 40s this morning, which is absolutely perfect running weather, and the rain moved out so I have no excuses.

Have a blessed Sunday!

  1. Good morning! Can you explain a little more how AYW works? I get the gist of what it helps you with but it’s the logistics I’m concerned with. I work Mon – Fri and adding in family time, gym time and just normal domestic housekeeping etc I don’t know that I would have time to actually do the course. Is there a specific time each day/week that participants log on? Thank you in advance!

    1. Sure, it’s very flexible. She releases a new lesson every 3 or 4 days. It goes to your email, and then you can watch the video at your leisure and there is usually a worksheet. Then you can go into the Facebook Group and ask any questions, share your progress, and answer any of their prompts. You can be as active as you want, but it isn’t a huge time commitment. You can always catch up later if you get busy, but it is best if you keep up with the lessons as they’re delivered because you’ll get more out of the group if you do the lessons with everyone else. I hope that helps!

  2. I get up at 6:30 on Sunday mornings, shower, eat breakfast, read my devotion, (then your blog😊) and have to be at church at 9:30.  I barely make it!  How do you run, type your blog, eat, dress, get to church on time AND with 3 kids in the house??????  Of course I think you get up earlier.

    1. LOL! Well, I do get up at 5:30 or 6:00 on most days. I’m also always running late and usually forget to eat breakfast. Our church starts at 10:30 and is about 15 min away. Oh, and I do nothing with my girls. Sometimes Paul has to nag them to get up. If David is home, I call him once or twice. They take care of themselves. It’s still a crunch to fit it all in. 🙂

  3. I’m someone who probably knows and understands more about clothes than the average person – worked selling it for years- but I still found the Adore Your Wardrobe so worth it!!! If you’re on the fence about taking the class – do it!! You won’t regret it.

  4. Happy Sunday! Whew, we made it through another family celebration yesterday. Don’t get me wrong I love family gatherings, but. I am ready to settle in with life. I took Jolynne recommendation for Kelly Snyder’s Adore Your Wardrobe course about 2 years ago and can’t tell you how much I learned about fashion, style, trends, etc. more than anything I learned to accept and love the body I have. I’ve completed all the courses and continue in a small group of women who are my friends. In fact, many of us traveled to Dallas last August, met Kelly and one another in person. Thanks Jolynne for your blog and recommendation about this course.

  5. I am looking forward to getting my hunting clothes out of my closet because of the space they take up.  Deer season ends on 1/14.  I do need to work on my handbags shelves because a couple of recent purchases has scrunched them up.  When my closet isn’t organized, I get cranky.  This will be another do nothing day for me since I’m still dealing with another nasty allergy infection.  Can’t wait to start seeing an allergist and get my body back in good shape, allergy wise, like I used to be.  Have a fabulous day!

  6. My husband and I tackled the pantry over the holidays while we were off. Something about starting a new year with some organization, is just refreshing. I am definitely going to start watching this show. Thanks for sharing.

  7. I have the book and will have to check out the show. I love stuff like that to get you motivated. I really like the idea of not only purging but decluttering and minimizing. My 20 yr old moved out recently. That forces you to look through a lot of stuff you’d been hanging onto and sort of rearrange and declutter. Anyway, thanks for the coffee talk. Always relevant!

  8. Good morning!  Funny, I came across that Marie Kondo show last night on Netflix, too!  I haven’t watched it yet, I think my daughter might like it and thought we could watch it together.  I do have a hidden agenda there…  🙂  (She’s 14 and her room is always soooo messy!)  I have been wanting to sign up for the Adore Your Wardrobe class and I think this is the year I’ll do it!  Thanks for the nudge!  Happy Sunday!

  9. Ha perfect post toda. I’ve been purging and organizing since the first of the new year. I like to take January as the month to do this. I’ve gone through all our Christmas stuff and if I haven’t used it in years and it’s outdated then be gone..I cleaned out all the kitchen cupboards as I got new dishes for Christmas so good excuse so figured may as well do them all, including the pantry. Let’s just say I was surprised as to what I  found. My china cabinet is next. Then that should be it. My husband and I have been working on the basement the biggest undertaking and there is a lot of stuff being thrown out there.
    Enjoy your run…

  10. I too have been cleaning out started with the kitchen cabinets and pantry then on to master bath vanity ( so much better even hubby noticed! Ha ) now I have tackled spare bedroom closet  that has been a black hole of catch all’s! Off to an excellent start for new year

  11. Hate to be the Debi Downer in the bunch, but for anybody considering Adore Your Wardrobe,  it’s probably good to hear both sides.  I was honestly disappointed.  A lot of what was taught was basic stuff that you could find in any other lesson on body types.  Much of it was stuff I’d already heard,  or just basic common sense.  I will say there was a lot I learned that I didn’t already know,  however I did not feel it was worth the cost.  What I got out of it was maybe worth $50,  possibly $100,  but definitely not worth $300!  (Even more if you take the second one!)  While I did enjoy it,  I feel that I could’ve done some research of my own on body types,  outfit formulas, etc for significantly less money.
Again not to be negative,  but just my two cents.  Hope this helps anyone who is considering it.

    1. I’ve been on the fence the past two years. I understand the gist but does one ‘meet’ w her once a day/week via FaceTime/other or is it courses online via live feed? I’m not sure I have  time – I work M-F, gym/exercise, regular domestic stuff, family and grandkids. We hv out of town family we visit regularly also in the mix.

      1. It is very flexible!  There are weekly lessons that appear almost as a blog post with a video at the end.  There is a scheduled date for each (the day it’s mafe available) but you don’t have to do it then.  It took me longer bc I was in the process of moving and renovating a new house, so I got behind!  (Maybe I wasn’t too focused and didn’t get the full benefit, idk).  I will say this though,  her free 2-week class was a total game changer for me,  it really helps you match your closet to your lifestyle.  (You know,  stop keeping and buying tons of cocktail dresses if you never wear them, meanwhile realize hey it’s ok to invest in quality athleisure bc I wear it way more than I realize!).  I definitely recommend that course,  whether you take AYW or not.  And I would recommend AYW too,  I did learn a lot.  It just wasn’t as life changing as all the hype lead me to believe.  And it’s definitely worth taking,  just not worth the cost IMO.  Hope this helps!

    2. I am glad to hear your side of this story because I was actually disappointed in the course also. I took the more basic, less expensive course and found the teaching to be stock/ common sense information that I had already read in a fashion book before. The customer service was also lacking. I e-mailed a question that I had about how to do one of the assignments of the course and I got a reply back just stating to do the exercise instead of answering the question that I was having a problem with. The more expensive version of the course may be better, but I did not feel that the course that I took was worth the money that it cost.

      1. Sorry you had a bad experience Gretchen!  Although it makes me feel better to know I’m not the only one who wasn’t 100% satisfied.  My experience wasn’t bad per se,  just not what I expected.  I’d also taken an in-person class on dressing for your body type and finding your vest colors,  so a lot of it was stuff I’d heard before.  Maybe if I was completely new to that concept it would’ve been more earth-shattering.  I took the basic class too.  Maybe the more expensive one is better?  Although I think the only difference between the two is access to the FB group.  I think the content is about the same for both.

        1. I think it is definitely different when you’re in the Facebook Group. It’s that personal attention that I found to set this course apart from anything else I’ve seen. To see the principles worked out on real people along with the feedback by Kelly and her staff was so eye opening to me.

I also was surprised to discover my body type. I had been wrong all these years, and that was a game changer for me. I had always focused on my problem areas and thought maybe I was an apple (I tend to hold weight in my belly) or a pear (I’ve developed saddle bags with age, ugh!) and at one point even thought I might be a carrot (big chest, broad shoulders.)

When I discovered I am actually an hourglass (a curvy in AYW terms), I was shocked, and then the rules that apply to that body type totally made sense with what I intuitively knew about what works and doesn’t work for me. To be able to rule out other styles at first glance helps make picking clothes and creating outfits so much simpler, and then the round 2 and the color course was a whole other revelation.

I get that everyone has a different experience and different prior knowledge, but the Facebook Group and getting individual feedback really makes a world of difference. Just my 2 cents. 🙂

          1. That actually makes a ton of sense! I’m sure the FB group helps, but I bet the biggest game changer for you was finding out your correct body type!  I can totally see how that would change so much of how you dress!  For me,  the type I always thought I had was correct,  so while there were some things I found I’d been doing wrong (or could do better),  it wasn’t like everything I thought about my body type had to change.  That definitely would make a huge difference!

          2. I will add this as well.  The biggest thing I probably took away from AYW was not so much anything I learned specific to dressing my body,  but rather to quit buying (or keeping) clothes that just look “OK” on me.  I used to buy stuff that I felt kind of “eh” about,  but I need a black dress, white tee, dark skinnies etc.  AYW did help me realize I should only have stuff in my closet that I absolutely love!  (Even basics).  So I am glad for that perspective!  And also the concept (from the 14 day class) that your closet should match your current real lifestyle!  (Not the one you want!). These two principles prob helped me more than anything!

    3. I also took the AYW course and was very disappointed. Before the course I loved clothes and shopping and thought I was fashionable. The things I was told to wear for my body type were (in my eyes) aging and outdated. When I saw the selfies we were supposed to post all I saw were my hips!  I’m sorry I spent the money.

      1. Ha older and hippy definitely is not the look you’re going for!  Maybe it’s geared for a more mature audience??

  12. I took AYW and wasn’t as committed as I should have been… that’s just how I am and I knew that going in. It has saved me several times the money because I put more thought into my purchases as she teaches. I also am watching Marie Kondo. Read the book as well. I want to be more organized but never quite happens.

  13. Well winter has arrived in Southern California and we are cold! It’s been around 58-62 degrees DURING THE DAY! 🤣 I’m trying to stay warm in my leggings, a couple of long sleeved tees and a zip-front hooded sweatshirt. Nothing “fashionable” at the moment!
Have to figure out what to wear to work tomorrow though!
I just saw a preview for Marie Kondo ‘s show and can’t  wait to watch!! I read her book last year and tried some of the techniques. I have been in such a mood lately to clean, purge, and organize in my house. I also am wanting to sell and get rid of extra furniture. I mentioned my desire to sell my dining room table, buffet, and china cabinet to my mother though and she was horrified (where would I put all my crystal and China? To which I replied “You mean the the stuff I never use?” 😉) It’s just so formal and at this moment I’m wanting a change. IDK- I’ll have to think more on that one.

    1. Haha, I hear ya. I was talking to my SIL about it when she was here over Christmas, and she was basically like, Yeah, I keep it b/c it looks good in my china cabinet. I feel the same. It’s not really worth the trouble to use it, but I don’t think I could part with it either.

    2. Heather, I had to smile at you and Jo-Lynne on maybe dumping the china b/c I never used my china either and often thought about selling or donating it until a few years. Now that I have grown kids and grandchildren, plus more opportunities to host groups of friends, I’m finding I’m thankful to have my china and other hosting items available to use for certain occasions. I inherited my MIL’s crystal several years ago, which at the time, I really didn’t appreciate until she passed away a few years ago. Now, it’s a treasure to occasionally bring out one or all of her crystal heirloom pieces. I will sometimes mix just a crystal bowl in with a more casual setting to bring just a little more specialness to the table. It’s a nice way to honor her life and also show respect to my husband’s heritage. Funny how we change over time! Having said this, I really need to go through my china cabinet and drawers because there are a few items that really do need to go!

      1. Nancy,
My mom told me the same thing and that I’ll regret selling it. She’s definitely more formal than I am with entertaining, but I like your idea of using the crystal glasses or a crystal bowl mixed in with my more casual dinnerware to add sparkle to the table. My husband actually took out our crystal champagne glasses on New Year’s Eve (which surprised me because it was just the two of us this year – my sons were gone and we didn’t feel like going out.) It was fun using our beautiful champagne flutes! 😊 We drank champagne and ate chocolate ice cream watching the  ball drop! 😂

        1. We also pull out our fancy glasses sometimes. And my china can actually go in the dishwasher, so I really should use it more. We just rarely eat in the dining room, and when we do, we usually have more people than I have place settings, so I use my everyday stuff even then.
