Coffee Talk 02.03.19

Good morning! I hope you all are having a good weekend and surviving the cold. It’s finally starting to let up around here… and by let up, I mean it’s no longer in the single digits. Hey, it’s progress!!!

I’m about to see what running in 16° feels like. When I looked at the forecast yesterday, it seemed like it would be in the 20s this morning, but now it looks like it won’t get there till I’m in church, so I’m going to see if I can hack it.

There is no wind and some sun, so hopefully it won’t be too bad. I don’t have time to get to the gym and back before church, and I don’t think I can’t take another treadmill run anyway.

Any-who. That’s probably more than you care to know about my exercise conundrums.

We got a surprise visit with my son this weekend. We were planning to visit my in-laws to celebrate my father-in-law’s birthday, so I texted him to see if he would want us to pick him and bring him with us since his college is on our way, and he did!

We had a good time playing cards and eating pizza, and I made a big pan of Scotcheroos because that’s a favorite of my father-in-law and my son. (We use all chocolate chips for the topping — no butterscotch chips. In case you decide to make them, that’s what I would recommend.)

He ended up coming home with us for the night, and we’ll take him back this afternoon, so that was a nice unexpected turn of events.

So who has big Super Bowl plans? We don’t have any plans, and I really don’t care who wins, although I’m not a fan of another Patriots win. #sorrynotsorry

I suppose the game will be on, mainly because my younger daughter wants to watch it, but I will probably be in the basement binge-watching Home Town. They came out with a 3rd season, and I’m so excited! I missed them.

In other news, I got my Scottsdale plans squared away! I have plane tickets, a hotel room, and a photographer lined up. Now I have to decide what to wear. It will be late February, so I’m thinking I’ll plan a few outfits to kick off 26 Days of Spring Fashion, which starts on March 1st.

I’m not really feeling spring fashion yet, but I definitely find myself gravitating toward all the transition styles I’m seeing in the stores right now, so hopefully I can get myself geared up for spring fashion by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, does anyone care about Valentine’s Day outfits? Is that even a thing at our age? I usually post a few Valentine’s Day looks, and if I’m going to do that, I need to get on it.

What do you all do for V-Day, if anything, and what types of outfits would you be looking for?

We usually go out to dinner, but not necessarily on the 14th. Since it’s a Thursday this year, we’ll probably go out on the 15th or 16th. I leave on the 17th for Scottsdale, so it will be nice to have a date night before I take off.

Oh, and before I go, I updated my Nordstrom Favorites page, and I also updated my Current Favorites widget on the sidebar. Both were woefully outdated, so if you’re looking for new shopping inspiration, check them out.

So yeah, that’s about all I’ve got today. Not a lot going on, but hey, it’s not January 74th anymore! You gotta be thankful for that.

Have a relaxing and blessed Sunday!!!

  1. Valentine’s Day Outfits would be neat to see, I am sure like most of us we can always wish for a Valentine’s Day romantic dinner out, but when you live in a small town and have now where except McDonalds to eat without having to drive an hour its always nice to Dream. 🙂 Right after Valentine’s I will be leaving to go to Arkansas to be with my daughter when my first grand daughter is born, have four grandsons so can’t wait for a little girl. I have been watching closely the clothes you have been posting getting ideas on how to pack for my trip, the weather is like here in FLA warm one day cold the next. Have a Blessed Sunday

  2. I couldn’t help but LOL when I read your January 74th comment.  Even in California, January seemed to drag.
I’d like to see a few Valentine Day or date night out ideas.  I’m trying to increase our date nights this year and would love some outfit inspiration.
    Have a blessed week.

  3. My husband and I don’t do anything special for Valentine’s Day, but a good friend of mine always hosts a girls-only Galentine’s Day cocktail party! It’s casual but festive. If you have any suggestions for that type event I’d love to see them!

  4. Yes to Valentines Day outfits! I like to dress up the two weeks leading up…lots of reds, pinks, hearts! 😉 oh, did I mention my birthday is on V Day? I always try to have some extra special girl’s lunches the week of Valentines as I love to celebrate my “Gal-entines “!

  5. I’m just wondering if it’s OK if I grab a couple of my favorite beers rather than java when I read your coffee talk?? I’m so glad it’s February. One month closer to spring and summer! It’s 44 degrees where I am in Wisconsin. 3 days ago it was -30 actual temp. Wind chill was a whole other story!

  6. Valentine’s Day is just another day in our house. I really don’t think there should be a Given day to say” I Love You! “. There is too much hype to give flowers, chocolates and diamonds. Not that I don’t love those things. All the restaurants are full & noisy. I prefer to go on a night when we can talk to each other and relax over a cocktail in a quiet corner.

  7. Yes please to some Valentine outfits. It’s a big deal in our life since we got married on Feb 13th. We celebrate for two days the joy of a second marriage that blessed both of us. At our wedding we went all out with red roses, candles, and romance. We got married on the ballroom floor and then had a big party. I love this time of year!

  8. I love Valentine’s Day and I always feel it’s the perfect time to bring some color & brightness in after a gloomy January! In fact, yesterday, I decorated my mantle and stair railing for Valentine’s! Yes, please show some Valentine outfits. We usually go out for dinner and normally wear dressy casual. Enjoy your weekend!

  9. Hi Jo-Lynne! Now I’ll be watching Home Town today too! No Valentine outfit for me! I ordered a few things form Loft yesterday based on your recent try-one. Thanks for all you do!

  10. It was 36° when I took the dog out this morning and it felt warm lol! Sad when just above freezing feels great 😂

I pulled out a bunch of red and pink items to wear this month but it depends on the weather. I think it might warm up to the 40’s this week. Woohoo!

We stay in for Valentine’s Day and my husband makes us a special dinner. I can’t deal with crowded restaurants.

I am rooting for the Pats #sorrynotsorry 🙂

I haven’t been a fan of early spring/transition pieces yet, probably a good thing since I am on a shopping ban for a couple months.

  11. Glad your weather is improving. We have a province wide weather alert of extreme wind chill warning of -45 C/ -49 F. Give me strength!! 😖 Good for you squaring away your travel plans to Scottsdale. Its nice to have something to look forward to.

A girls night out Galentine’s outfit would be fun. My hubby and I do things all year long and avoid the overpriced restaurants around Valentine’s day.

May make a batch of your scotcharoos recipe for the Superbowl (or the annual Patriots Superbowl shall we say?! Sorry Patriots fans!) Doesn’t matter to me either who wins but rooting for LA Rams as the underdog.

  12. Yes on Valentine’s outfits!! We usually go to an early dinner before it gets too crazy!! Or we pick another day to celebrate that’s more convenient for us. We don’t usually do gifts but rather treasure the time together and enjoy an amazing meal. I’m a Steelers fan because I’m originally from Pennsylvania but since they aren’t in it and I’m from California now… Go Rams!!
Btw we started watching Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and love it… thanks for mentioning it!!
    Happy Sunday!

  13. Sounds like a great weekend and any time with the kids as they age is a welcome to us parents:) you’re try on session yesterday’s post really reminds me that I may be giving up too quickly when I’m a fitting room and have learned to take a lot more in for comparison sake. You also never really know until you try 😉.. -18 with the windchill when we left for church. Warming up this week though🤗.

    1. Ha I guess your post was more about Valentine’s Day. We usually go out or order in.. really depends on the weather. After Christmas then a birthday in January it really feels like not much is needed for that day… I did buy a cute rayon blouse that’s white with red hearts( last summer) not for Valentine’s Day but because it was cute. We will be getting together with friends on that weekend so we may just celebrate then… not a big football fan out of all the sports, but this household will be cheering for the Pats!!!!

  14. We’ll stay in for Valentine’s Day but definitely go out for a Sweet Dinner over the following weekend. I’d love to see a few Valentine’s outfits. I’m really corny about that stuff! I love to be festive.

    1. That’s funny! I thought everyone would say it’s not a big day for them. I’m happy to work on a few V-day looks. That would give me something new to focus on while we wait for spring!

  15. Valentine’s Day… well, we celebrate it in house, and its a party because it is actually my Husband’s birthday! So we invite family and friends over and I make some of his favorites to eat (usually includes hot wings). And I make a cake and we have ice cream and honestly it really is a lovely way to celebrate Valentine’s Day! It takes the pressure off people in the family that may not have a Valentine as we focus on someone special to all of us!  I usually pull a red sweater out of the closet for the occasion 🙂

  16. I’m so glad that David joined y’all yesterday and spent the night at home.  We don’t do anything for Valentines, however, we do buy cards and a few goodies for our adult granddaughter and our adopted younger ones next door.  Many many years ago my mom and I decided to go out to eat on 2/14.  What a mistake!  The wait times, even at Red Lobster, were ridiculous, so from then on, if reservations could not be made, we didn’t go out.  This just brought a precious memory to me: for more years than I can recount, my mom would make a heart shaped Valentines red velvet cake for my dad, me, then Larry & me once the 3 of us resided in the same home.  I hope y’all had a blessed family day!

    1. I used to buy Valentine’s cupcakes or make a cake and make a special dinner in the dining room for the family – the girls loved that. Maybe we should try that this year.

  17. We celebrate Valentines by cooking together at home, something we really enjoy. Restaurants are crowded and noisy. We gave it up many years ago. I would still love to see Valentine outfits.

  18. I love the idea of a Valentine’s Day outfit post… any chance to dress up a little is super fun.. and if I have a fun outfit I can guarantee my husband will agree to taking me out so I can show it off lol 😉😊

  19. We’re going to see Jersey Boys at our local theater and a nice dinner before, but on the 15th.  We decided years ago not to go on the 14th anymore…higher prices, crowded restaurants, rushed service.  Would love to see some Date Night outfits, but don’t have to be strictly Valentine outfits.  Loved your closet post this week…lots of great ideas!

  20. Valentine’s Day is about the only day I wear color, other than maybe Christmas and sometimes Easter!😊

So much Patriot’s hate going around, so I just want to say I love them, cheer for them and say I love Tom Brady!❤️🤣

  21. It is so disheartening to you make negative comments about the New England Patriots. Could you please be respectable to your New England followers. I would have expected you to act more professional and kind. #verydissapointed

  22. I’m going to try and add some color this week and next. It’s going to be warm but completely gray outside…welcome to February! I’d love to see some Valentine’s outfits. We stay in and make the same dinner we did when we were dating. It’s the only time all year that we make those recipes. 🙂 Now, I’ll take ideas of how to get the kids to go to bed early and stay there! My darling surprised me with roses yesterday…I have to admit I’ll take them any time! 🙂

    1. Haha! I should probably try it sometime but it’s a “Shane family recipe” and they always do it with all choc chips. The butterscotch doesn’t sound terribly good to me… but I probably shouldn’t knock it till I try it. 🙂
