Coffee Talk 04.28.19

Well, spring has sprung here in Philly for sure. The flowering trees are in full bloom, and the rest of our deciduous trees started putting out leaves this week. Our landscape is starting to fill in, and the grass is lush and green. Most mornings it’s comfortable enough to sit on the deck and enjoy my first cup of coffee. It’s been glorious.

It’s hard to believe that this time last year we were negotiating our current house and getting our home of 13 years ready to sell.

A lot has happened since then! We bought a new house and sold our old one, our oldest child graduated high school, we sent him off to college, he auditioned and scored a spot in his university’s marching band, and our youngest started middle school.

It’s definitely been a year of changes, but it’s all been good change.

It’s also been a year of change and growth for my business. I switched affiliate networks last June, and that was a big adjustment as well. It turned out to be a good business decision, but it’s had its own set of challenges.

I’m looking forward to the rest of 2019 and hoping it continues to be a much less eventful year than the last. Even good changes can wear on you after a while, ya know??? I can only do so much adjusting in my old age, ha!

In more current news, my vertigo seems to be gone, but I’m continuing with the testing my ENT wants me to do. I have the bloodwork scheduled for Tuesday and the MRI on Thursday. Needless to say, I’m not looking forward to either, and I can’t wait till this week is over. I hope it seems to pass as quickly as the last few have.

Also, I’m doing the GLO teeth whitening at my dentist’s office tomorrow, so I’ll let you know how that goes. It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time, and I’m excited to see the results. I’ll take before and after pix.

I’ve also got a photo shoot on Wednesday and some fun brand collaborations coming up in the next couple of weeks. I’m open to post ideas too. I’ve been struggling a bit on that end, which is unlike me. I usually have more content ideas than I can develop without doubling up on posts.

So yeah, it’s another full week! It seems like all I do anymore is run from one appointment to the next. Hopefully I can get everything taken care of, and things will slow down for a while.

Well, that was all over the place, wasn’t it? And here I am, late getting out for my run yet again! I always think I have nothing to say when I sit down to write these posts, and then 30 minutes later I’m still typing.

I hope you all have a relaxing and blessed Sunday!

  1. Cheers to ☕️ On the porch, my very fav thing to do when I can tolerate the cool NEPA mornings!  My weather app said it was snowing, with low visibility!  Thank goodness it was wrong!  Maybe some other Salem Township is having snow, but not us!!  I so enjoy your Sunday Coffee Talks, when I can squeeze them in before church. If not, the next best thing is Sunday Afternoon, relaxing after church & reading it!  You really have a knack for writing, with just the right amount of humor & revelations of your personal life!  That in itself is always a story, right?  Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

  2. You should try rolfing for your vertigo. I’m guessing it’s dairy related and related to your eustation tubes. See Rolf.org to find one. I’ve been seeing a certified advanced rolfer for about ten years. Highly recommend. As a runner, will definitely help you. Let me know how it goes.

  3. Yes we did get snow in Wisc.! Spring snows are not unheard of. I stay sane by understanding how quickly it will thaw and sure enough, the sun is out today and it’ll be a distant memory by tomorrow.

  4. I enjoy your posts. Even if you say they are all over the place. It tells me that I am not alone.  Thank you.

  5. I’m glad to hear your vertigo seems to be gone. I hope your appointments go well this week. I will also be very interested in how your GLO appointment goes. It sounds interesting!

We were one of those with a winter storm warning yesterday. We also had tickets to see the new Avengers movie, but fortunately, even though it rained/snowed for a good portion of the day, it really didn’t seem too bad and we were able to make the movie. I guess a winter storm in April doesn’t pack the same punch as one in January. My SIL lives just outside of Vail, CO, and can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want to live there. I keep telling her…because you are still getting snow in JUNE!!!! Looking at our 10-day forecast, it’s mostly 60s, but I’ll take that over snow, even though I’m ready for 80s! 😉

  6. I am so glad that you are proceeding with the tests the ENT wants you to do.  Even though the vertigo is gone at the moment, there may be something that can be done to prevent from happening again.  And it’s better to rule out other things that could be going on.  You know, God expects us to take good care of the bodies He gave us, so that’s what you are doing.  I will have to think on post ideas.  Enjoy the spring weather and have a blessed day!

  7. I’m drinking my Sunday coffee and reading your blog…making pancakes for family and turning the heat on🙄 we are on the other side of PA…chilly here today and yesterday, but no snow thank goodness…I went through the vertigo as well, started many years ago when my kids were babies…had all the testing, they never found anything..I still gel it occasionally, but for the most part it’s gone…I do have pretty serious allergies and I think it may have been some kind of virus or inner ear issue caused by allergies. I also noticed that I developed a lot of anxiety around that time as well..who knows??  Enjoying your blog, thanks for keeping it real😀

    1. I think seasonal allergies may have triggered mine this time around too. I’m not sure why my ENT isn’t just going with that theory, but anyway… I’ll see this testing thru and hopefully it doesn’t show anything.

  8. Enjoy your blog. You are very authentic. Love your blooming lilac bush! So pretty. We got quite the blizzard yesterday and supposedly got 15 cm of snow. Ugh……😟 Back to winter wonderland outside.

Give me strength. It will melt soon and green everything up. “We need the moisture”, I tell myself. Ottawa and Montreal are flooding with evacuations and military called in to assist, which is awful.

Will think about blog post ideas. Thanks for doing the multiple ways to wear white jackets posts.

  9. Glad you’re feeling better but still getting the vertigo checked out. I had it years ago and never did get a definitive answer. I was wondering if you could address how to make your wardrobe work when you’re trying to lose weight. What should you do when you lose enough that your current size doesn’t fit right but you’re not to your goal? Most people would not want to spend a lot on an in between size but you still have to wear clothes…

  10. Love all of your posts! For an idea: how about a packing for travel focused one? I’ve read long enough to know you’ve got a few like this, but a new one right now before summer travel would be appreciated by me! Such as: where do you put jewelry? shoes? wet clothes from beach-y vacations? containers for lotions/etc? Thanks!

  11. Good luck with the testing.  I hate that stuff, but it will be over before you know it (as I always say – time flies, whether you’re having fun or not).  I have a posting idea – belts.  I feel like belts are starting to creep back into our fashion lives.  Even though I used to wear one every day, I am at a loss as to when/how/what will look good, etc., especially as I get older.   I just ordered a pair of wider legged crop pants (the first not-skinny pants I’ve purchased in years), and I’m thinking perhaps a belt would make them happy…but I would love your guidance.

    1. Susan, I’ve noticed a lot of the wide leg pants have an attached cloth belt that you knot in the front. If you rolled up an oblong or larger scarf and ran it through your belt loops to knot in the front, that could be a cute belt option.

      1. Thanks Kelly!  I had forgotten about using a scarf as a belt – that could look cute.  These are not super wide leg pants, but they’re wide enough that I think tucking in is going to be the way to go.

    2. Haha, I love that quote. And it’s so true. I keep telling myself that it will be over by Thurs afternoon, and I’ll be glad I did it.

Belts are definitely getting more popular, now that everyone is tucking. I’m just not sure I’m ever going to be able to do that tucking into high-waist jeans thing I’m suddenly seeing everywhere.

Maybe the key for me is to find jeans with a lower rise and tuck into those – to help elongate my upper body a bit. I’ve worn belts in the past and liked them, but it was with low rise jeans. I’m not one for designer knockoffs, so no fake GG belts for me, but I have been wanting to find a nice belt that I really like to go with some of my outfits so I’ll keep you posted!

  12. Hi Jolynn,
I love all your posts but I was just thinking the other day that I would love it if once in awhile you would post a recipe, stylings and organizing of your closets or rooms, tips for runners, a day in the life of what you eat or how your day goes or some of the posts you used to do. I love the clothes but I think at some points we all just have too much and would love something different to read because we love following your blog. Your Sunday posts are my favorite.

    1. I agree with all of these suggestions!  Also, you have mentioned having people over for dinner…would love ideas on what to make for a crowd.

  13. It looks like Spring here – the birds are singing, the grass is green and the trees are budding – but it is still cold!  Oh well, at least I can wear my cute jackets rather than my rain jackets, because we are having a dry spell, so I’m thankful.  My jean jackets are actually getting some wear right now.
Praying your vertigo issues are solved with the tests this week.  Enjoy your Sunday!

  14. I have 2 graduations coming up in May. Not dressy occasions but want to look nice. I’m not a dress person. A post on that would be good. One college and one high school. Both grandchildren. Cant wait to see your teeth!

  15. Beautiful outdoor pic and I have that exact same coffee cup 😊
Good luck with your medical appts this week and better to be proactive about our health then to wait for something serious to go undetected.

  16. Best wishes with your upcoming medical appointments! Regarding posts, maybe something about what to wear to a college graduation that will be casual/comfortable–will be at large university and a bit long. Upcoming vacation pack list with multiple ways to wear shorts, shirt etc. (non-beachy)-will be in Lake Tahoe and ideas for plane travel

  17. Jo-Lynne,  I love your posts. I have recently retired from being a teacher for 34 years. Now I am working on my casual wardrobe and I love your ideas. I am hoping to get some suggestions for no-show socks. I can’t seem to find a brand that  doesn’t slip off. Also I have more time to exercise and would love to see more ideas for athletic wear and especially support  bras for  those of us who need that! I had an MRI if you years ago when I was having vertigo. It was not bad at all. Just plan to listen to music and say some prayers. And that will relax you. Hope all goes well and  blessings to you and your family.

  18. I would be interested in a post on casual white pants in addition to the great recommendations you have had on white jeans. I am looking for the elusive thicker fabric that doesn’t show your underwear, but that might be a little lighter and possibly not as spendy as some of the white jeans.

It might also be fun to see you re-style some favorites, or do a dressed up and dressed down option of a favorite piece or try to show several outfits featuring the same piece.
    Thanks!

  19. I love your daily posts and your classic style is so close to mine. I just use more color. Please do a packing list post for a river cruise or 2 week cruise. So hard to not pack all my cute shoes ( my weakness). I wish I could bring myself to pay for those Tory Burch shoes- omg they are so gorgeous!

  20. The flowering trees in your backyard look beautiful! The gardener in me is wondering if there are spring flowers coming to life that you didn’t know you had.

  21. LOL! I am just reading this now and LOVE your backyard pic. As you could see by my Instagram pic yesterday, we just had a blast of winter up here in Calgary. I felt so bad for that poor robin sitting in that snowy tree! 🙂 It is sunny today but only 8C – hopefully it warms up by Friday, as my youngest has a football game! I really don’t like sitting in the cold. 🙂
I really like those white esperadiles (I sooo spelled that wrong!). I am going to have to see if I can find them here. Enjoy your weather and awesome backyard! We’ll be there soon!

  22. Goodness! You do have a busy week. I am loving my time in the south because everything is so lush. I really miss that in CA. Good luck with the blood work and MRI. I’m so glad your vertigo is gone. My mom has had that and NO FUN!
