Coffee Talk 07.16.17

Good morning and happy Sunday! I hope y’all are having a good weekend.

My son arrived home yesterday afternoon, and it was SO good to see him. It sounds like he had a great time at camp. He’s not one to talk a lot, but he was pretty chatty about his week and asking us about our time in Maine, and that was nice. I think it was good for him to get a taste of independence. It is so hard to believe, but this time next year I’ll be sending him off to college. Oh my heart…

We have a week at home and then we head to the beach for a week. I really need to get back on track with my clean eating habits and exercise because I’ve put on some weight and I’m not feeling my best. I hate to go to the beach feeling like that, so this week I’m really going to make an effort to get back on the bandwagon. Does anyone else find that summer is the hardest time of year to stick to healthy eating habits? This happens to me every summer.

Occasionally I get asked about what I eat and what I do for exercise. My goal is to eat a modified paleo diet (I eat some dairy, although I limit that when I’m trying to drop a few pounds) and run 3-4 times a week in addition to weight lifting 2x a week, but it’s hard to keep up with it all. I didn’t have a single dessert the whole time we were in Maine, but I do have a weakness for potato chips and salty snacks, and I just like food in general so it’s easy for me to overdo it.

I was doing Hello Fresh for a few weeks, and I loved it, but it’s not quite enough food for our family when all 5 of us are here for dinner, and they skimp on the meat so I’m going to go back to some of my paleo dinner recipes this week and try to really curb the carbs and hope that helps.

I hope this doesn’t sound like complaining. It’s not intended that way; it’s just where I am right now, and I know many women my age struggle with this so I just want you to know that I’m right there with ya! #thestruggleisreal

In other news, I mentioned in my daily email yesterday that my editorial calendar is startlingly empty. I was so focused on getting through my 25 Days of Summer Fashion last month and then the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale coverage last week that I didn’t have much planned for this week. This time of year it’s hard to know what to post about because summer fashion gets repetitive, and fall is still a ways off.

With our beach trip coming up, I’d like to work ahead this week so I have most of my posts prepped, but I’m feeling a little burned out on topics to be completely honest. I don’t want to overdo it with fall looks from the #NSale, but I’m happy to put more of those together if that’s what y’all want to see. But maybe there are some other general fashion topics I could tackle — like the 3 types of handbags every woman needs post I did last week. If you have any specific topics that you would find helpful, please let me know!

I’m off to church this morning and then I plan to spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool. We didn’t get there yesterday so it’s definitely on my agenda for today. Hope y’all have a great Sunday!

  1. HI Jo-Lynne,
I always look forward to your coffee talk! Summer is hard for me to stay in shape because I love all desserts, especially ice cream. Ha! My son has just graduated from college so I know a bit about how it feels when they go off to college. I’m happy to empathize and/or answer questions. I feel as if I know a lot about this topic!

I have a random question. I do freelance writing in addition to being a teacher and I am not well-organized with my freelance assignments. You mentioned your editorial calendar, so I am wondering if you have a special system or actual planner you prefer to use that helps you stay on track with all the components of what you do. I’m usually organized but with this part of my work-life, I could use some help.

Also, you asked for ideas for posts. I still stress over wearing skirts and dresses in the fall/spring bare-legged but panty hose seems so outdated I don’t want to wear that either. Any advice on that? Also, in a similar vein, have you done a post of under garments and shape wear? I could use help in that department. I only have one item and it’s too uncomfortable to wear- lol!

    1. Those ideas are helpful. I think in the fall, tights are the best option if you don’t want to wear bare legs.

I have a calendar plugin that I use on the backend of my blog. It allows me to plug in post topics for each day, and I can drag and drop if I want to switch my schedule around. They are actually links to the real posts, so i can click and open up the draft and start writing. That’s been a total game changer for me. Maybe you can do something similar on google calendar.

      1. Thank you so much, Jo-Lynne! I hadn’t thought of trying to do something like that in Google Calendar! I will explore that. I still need to call tomorrow about the N debit card! You are so sweet to respond! Hope your Sunday is lovely.

  2. I love your post! Look forward to reading it every day. I would love for you to cover on how to accessorize an outfit. This is my biggest struggle. I feel my outfits can use a little uummph, I tend to wear the same earrings, necklace and use same purse with every outfit.

    1. Thanks, Missy. I try to address that when I do outfit posts, but I’ll be thinking more about that side of things. That is helpful. Frankly, I tend to fall into that rut as well. 🙂 And I think it’s okay to wear the same jewelry a lot. If it works, you are put together and that’s all that matters. But accessories are also a great way to change up an outfit without buying all new pieces so I’ll try to hit on that. 🙂

      1. I had an idea finally so I came back to this post lol. Started reading through the comments and this one stood out similar to my idea – a post on what type of necklace to wear with different necklines? Even after doing 3 style challenges, I still find myself not knowing when I should wear a statement necklace/chunky necklace or go delicate/short/long.

  3. A couple of questions, do you eat fruit? Bread?
How do you keep your closet under control and not overwhelming with too many choices?
Do you keep the outfits you post?
Btw-I was saying to my self how good you look in your instanstories!

    1. I eat some fruit, but mostly berries. I’m not a huge fan of fruit. No bread. I do eat white potatoes, although I need to cut back while trying to lose pounds. I can eat them when maintaining. They’re allowed on whole30 so I allow them.

My closet – I get rid of a lot. I have some friends and family members who love to take them of my hands. 🙂 I return some things – if the tags are on and I don’t wear them past the front yard or for more than 5 minutes. It feels very wasteful, to be honest, and sometimes I just feel icky about the whole situation, but as a fashion blogger, there is a pressure to always wear something that is currently for sale. When things sell out, I feel like I can’t feature them anymore, but I am thinking about trying to do less shopping this fall and doing more repeats, wearing things different ways, and linking to similar styles if what I’m wearing has sold out. I’ll see how that goes.

      1. I like the idea of styling the same tops or bottoms in different ways. I see tons of other bloggers linking to similar merchandise so I don’t see why you can’t too!

  4. I would like it if you could add a once a week teenage boy fashion and hubby fashion! Also what is a blowout and what is all this dry bar stuff about? Sorry I tend to get right to the point, but I do think your blog is so wonderful and I have learned so much! Thank you for all you do on it!

    1. Haha, my son has 0 fashion sense. ZILCH. It is all Nike all the time. But my hubby is actually a pretty classy dresser and he would be game for a post or two. 🙂

  5. I always enjoy hearing about whats going on in your little corner of the world, while I’m sitting in my little corner of the world! Glad your sin is backmhime & had a wonderful experience! Ah yes, the pitfalls of summer eating……we enjoyed steaks for Father’s Day, just this last week, grilled pork chops, roasted potatoes, and fresh local sweet corn. Carbs & red meat galore….however, there is a lot of fresh fruit out there, so we at least get some healthier choices in! Re new posts for this time of the year, I can see your dilemma. Maybe something on purging summer clothes, how to transition your wardrobe from one season to the next, footwear that transitions from summer to fall, I’m just grasping here!! I’m not looking/buying anything summerish. I don’t need anything & don’t need to even buy on sale for next year. Yesterday I found 2 long fallish sweaters at the store I normally shop in for my size. I was skeptical since I’m curvier & 5’4″. I was shocked at how slimming the long sweater looked! So for you gals out there that liked JoLynne’s long sweater but are size XL or 16 & not sure how one would look on, try one on! We don’t have a Nordstrom anywhere near us, so I just shopped local & was happy to find something very similar. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!! It finally quit raining here, so hopefully we can enjoy the pool!

  6. Post ideas: Shapewear update, incorporating trends for different body types,. I always enjoy the “unboxing” posts if you have any shipments coming. Thanks for asking.

  7. I like shop your closet posts! So many of us have purchased pieces from your blog and could use inspiration on different ways to wear them!

  8. HI, Jo-Lynne,
So many tops these days are LONG and I’m short waisted and can’t tuck in. How would you handle this?

I’m thinking that a camel colored jacket or cardigan might be a good addition to my wardrobe. Any styling suggestions?

Thanks so much for all of your help!

    1. I am so happy to report that shorter tops and cropped lengths are coming back!!! I am with you on the long tops and being short waisted. I usually do a front tuck when a top is too long, but you can also hem them. That’s really the ideal solution.

  9. I look forward to your Sunday Coffee talk post all week!
Could you possibly do a post on packing for a beach vacation or just a packing post in general? Love those kind of things. I would also love a post about what you carry in your handbag and how you switch bags especially when you go from a larger to a smaller bag (what makes the cut?) I would also love a post on just accessories (scarves, jewelry, hats, etc…) since many times the accessories make or break an outfit.
I would also love to read if your kids have ever commented on your outfits. My teenage sons made me feel so self conscious about a pair of jeans with a ripped knee that I got rid of them.
I have been a long time reader (since before you transitioned to only fashion) and I love it because you are closer to my age and on trend but not crazy (if you know what I mean!)

    1. Hey Robin, thanks for the kind words. It means so much that you’ve followed my blog through all its evolutions. 🙂 Did you see my Maine packing post? I can do a beach one too. Love the what’s in your handbag idea. And LOL about the kids. I get comments ALL the time! Sometime I am surprised at how complimentary they are, and other times they think I look ridiculous. LOL! Kids… how did we every survive without their fashion advice? *snort*

  10. Good morning Jo Lynne. How about a post about fashion for teen girls featuring your daughters. I loved the one you did for back to school. I enjoy reading your blog. Thank you.

  11. Not sure if I have commented before or not, but I want to let you know how much I enjoy your blog.
Love the idea of doing posts for teen boys. Appreciate all of the time you put into your posts. Thank you!

  12. I hear ya on the eating thing – especially in the summer. :-/

For posts a good all around shoe post would be good. Also have you done a skincare post? Your face always looks so fresh. And while I don’t wear makeup I’d be interested to know what you use.

    Have a blessed week.

    1. Thanks, Gina. I use Rodan + Fields usually, unless I’m testing out another product for the blog. I think at the end of the day, the skin thing is due mostly to genetics, and then after that, staying out of the sun and drinking lots of water. I have a lot of sun damage from my younger years. Thank goodness for makeup! 🙂

  13. Hi!
I love your coffee talk on Sundays!

What about a blog about wearing one item three different ways or something like that? For example, I have a cute black sleeveless blouse type shirt. I always wear it with skinny jeans and black wedges. I want to wear it with other items, but never do. I would love to see how else I could wear my black shirt! I think that would be a fun post or maybe even a whole week of how to wear items 3 different ways!

    Annalisa

  14. Hello!

    Thanks for your posts.
Closet organization would help me a ton! I have a reach in closet, but never seem to have it organized well. I also have to eat a gluten free dairy free diet and would love to hear some of your go to recipes for Paleo. Have a great Sunday!

  15. I would love to see info on foundation wear. Slimmers, camis, socks, tights, etc. Thanks for all you do.

  16. I loved your authenticity! I was just sitting here feeling very much the same way about my weight and eating while drinking coffee before I get the kids up for church. My oldest is about to be a junior so I have ACT/SAT prep going on and thinking about college and it makes me sad to think how little time I get with her. Happy Sunday to you! Make it out to the pool today!!!

  17. I would love for you to write about skincare and makeup. I have struggled with foundation lately. I want something that looks natural but covers. Also, if you could choose only one eyeshadow color to wear what would that be? Thanks!

    1. Hey Nancy. I love my MAC foundation for full coverage. For more casual days, I use Jane Iredale’s foundation powder. Eye shadow – when I’m lazy, I just put grey on my entire lid and call it a day. 🙂 But I have cool undertones. If you have a warmer complexion, probably brown.

  18. I like the idea of skirts/knee length vs maxi and can any height wear the maxi? I’m 5’4″. Casual jackets or cardigans and how to pair them with skirts. Thanks for all you do for us! Love your blog! Enjoy your Sunday.

  19. I understand about the summer rut. What about ideas on how the mix and match what is already in the closet with different accessories. What type of necklaces go best with what necklines, etc. I also struggle with skirts and different tops for casual and dressing them up.

I really appreciate your posts and ideas. I’m sure it becomes a challenge to come up with new ideas to post but just know we appreciate your hard work.

    1. Thanks for the ideas. And yeah, it’s funny, I RARELY have a problem coming up with post topics, but for some reason this summer I’m coming up empty. All of these suggestions are super helpful. I’m making a list. 🙂

  20. Post ideas…How about several different ways to style a single item. For instance, a blouse styled 3 different ways instead of a blouse with white jeans or a blouse with blue jeans.

  21. I can definitely relate to your Coffee Talk today! My younger son is 17 and he will be getting ready to leave the nest next summer as well. He will be my second one to leave and it still will be hard, but he’s very ready to go and my husband and I are right there with him! He needs his independence to mature and live in the real world. So I constantly pray for his safety and that he will make good choices. But enough of that! I totally relate to the good eating thing too. I’m a modified Paleo eater too. I include a little organic dairy (I am not lactose intolerant and have no aversion to it at all other than reading that it’s not good for us.) In the midst of a major kitchen reno so not cooking which I hate. I’m doing the best I can though with sticking to protein and greens. Enjoy your Sunday!

    1. We were thinking about redoing our kitchen, and I decided to forget it b/c I don’t want to deal with a non-working kitchen for weeks or months, LOL!!! I’m sure you’ll love yours when you’re done tho. 🙂

  22. I’m so happy to know I’m not the only person who struggles with summer weight. I loose weight over Christmas holidays but gain during swimsuit season. Go figure! I love whatever you post. I’m not tired of the Nordy sale myself. . How about wardrobe staples? Fav household cleaning products. Just do what you do. Yours is the best blog.

  23. Jo-Lynne,
In my book you are not complaining, you are showing you have the same issues as all of us and keep it real. One of the many reasons I love your blog. Life happens!

Maybe a post on summer shoes or one pair styled for work, running errands, lunch with friends, date night. I love shoes …

Maybe share your go to recipes you discussed above?

    Have a great day!

P.S. I got the travel dryer but a older version off eBay. Thanks for the tip!????

  24. Jo-Lynne, Thank you for keeping it real and sharing your eating challenges with us. For many years I kept my carb intake down and never lost one pound, nor did I feel real good about my shape. Now that I have started eating carbs again, in moderation, I feel better and am happier with my shape. While living in a hotel for one month when Larry was undergoing the autologous stem cell transplant, I ate oatmeal with cranberries & a little brown sugar and scrambled eggs every morning for breakfast. I ate less during the rest of the day and night, and felt better. So, that is what I do most mornings now. My exercise consists of yard work and house work.
Our granddaughter just got her college ID during orientation on Thursday. She is super excited about this new venture where she will be two hours away from home. On the other hand, I know her parents are dreading it since she is an only child.
I’d love to see a few posts on dressing super casual, comfortable, and practical for doing housework (dusting, vacuuming, cleaning baseboards, laundry, etc.), without being sloppy. Seeing another post on jeans in various price points and fit variances (high rise vs low rise) with the best top choices for both, would be great.
    Have a blessed day!

  25. I like the idea someone else posted about doing a teen girl post. Mine are just getting interested in clothes and accessorizing. I give advice, but my style is def not their style. And I’m not up-to-date on teen fashion. Any help would be great! Fall back-to-school is a good topic. ????

  26. Thanks for being so transparent and honest this morning! Sometimes blogging looks so glamourous we forget the real people struggles. You’ve gotten lots of good advice about topics, but honestly I felt compelled to tell you that it’s OK if you give yourself permission to take a break and take a little time off! Lots of bloggers go quiet in the summer and you’ve worked nonstop for weeks – it’s no wonder you are feeling a little burned out! I’m betting that with a little distance and time to recharge, your creative side will engage and you’ll have loads of fresh ideas and content for fall. I hope this was helpful and not bossy ????

    1. I was going to suggest the same thing! It’s okay doe you to take some time off and “be still.” I dare say we will all be here when you come back!

      1. Thank you, Sandy. I know, and I intended to do that in Maine, but honestly, I tried to read and relax and I ended up back at the computer. I really enjoy the blog more than most leisure activities these days, lol! But I hear ya. If I need to take a day or two off, I will. 🙂

    2. Yes, go to the beach and unwind for a week, or more if you need it. We all need a sabbatical sometimes and all us followers will still be here when you return! ????. My daughter is just starting to Blog and I’m getting a glimpse from her, just how much time is involved.
As far as Blog ideas, how to wear scarves, new hairstyles for different shaped faces, organizational tricks for clothes, shoes, accessories & makeup. Hand and foot care. A weekly healthy recipe.

    3. Thank you, Alyson. Not bossy at all. I know you guys don’t expect me to never take a break. Honestly, I just enjoy it and even on vacation, I like to start my mornings out updating the blog. If I plan ahead, I have to do very little actual work during the vacation. That said, if I don’t get enough posts prepped or just don’t have any ideas I feel I can write well, I will take a day or two off or republish something from the archives. 🙂 I appreciate all of you encouraging me to take it easy. 🙂

  27. Would you be interested in doing a post on the recipes you will be using this week to get back on track? I’m in desperate need of losing some pounds this summer and would like to see how you eat to get back on track. I remember you mentioned a chicken and artichoke recipe once that sounded so good and easy. Thanks for all you do. Enjoy your day!

  28. I agree with wanting to see a shop your closet post. I always enjoy seeing different ways to put outfits together. Have a great week!

  29. Aw, Jolynne! It is so rewarding to watch our kids grow and develop! My son left for college last Fall and he was ready! Your boy will be too…it’s a process! And part of you will be so sad and the other part will be so proud of him!!! It’s an exciting time for him!!

As far as ideas for the blog: you have gotten some great ones already! Makeup, hair products, a post on finding a good bra, etc…and what is a bralette and when would you wear one? Also, from the “Sneak Peek” of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, LONG cardigans are all the rage this fall. As a 5′ 3″ curvy girl, they seem to accentuate my hips/thighs. You could show ways to accessorize to help with that or show the different lengths of a “long” open cardigan and which would look best on different body types.

Enjoy your beach trip! Take pictures!
And thanks for all you do! I love your blog!

    1. Thanks, Cary, great feedback. Just to give you a quick answer, I think the key with long cardigans is to make sure they are cut in a way that isn’t too voluminous — look for slimmer cuts, thinner fabrics, and no pockets that add bulk in the hip area. I hope that helps!

  30. Hi Jolynne. I love your blog and am in awe of the hard work you put into it! Your posts are always so well written and informative! I don’t know of any other blogger who writes posts seven days a week! I say for the week you’re at the beach you should take a break and just enjoy spending the time with your family. ????

  31. Good Morning! Jeans – do you foresee straight leg or flared leg jeans making a big comeback?

Also, this is kinda totally different but my daughter got me some cowboy boots a couple years ago when she went to Nashville and I have the hardest time styling them. She is taking me to Nashville for my birthday in October and I want to wear them and look put together and cute. Any ideas?

    Thanks

    1. They have to come back eventually, right!?! LOL… you’d think, but I do not see anyone making the switch this fall. That said, I think you should wear them if you like them and they look best on you. They are definitely available. I did try to include a few pairs in my #NSale Guide.

As far as cowboy boots go, I think you can wear them over skinny jeans with a cute top or sweater. I would try to keep it feminine on top. 🙂

  32. Thank you so much for your posts. I love seeing the different outfits you put together. I too struggle with my weight. Several years ago I went through a time when I couldn’t get my weight under control and found out my thyroid was out of wack. I found a great natural clinic in my area and went through a detox – eliminated gluten and dairy and starting taking some natural supplements to help me – lost about 50 pounds and felt great. Unfortunately I have fallen off the bandwagon and have been slipping back into bad habits. Summer is hard for me as well – seems like everyone month starting in May through August we have a family member that has a birthday!!! I know you’ve posted some recipes before but maybe some more ideas of what you are eating and exactly what kinds of exercises you do or a typical workout routine you do. I would love to be a runner but don’t think I have the stamina – I know it’s something you have to work up to. I have a treadmill but it’s so great getting outside in the fresh air. I LOVE biking and would like to do it more often but wonder if that’s enough to keep my weight down. Sorry for rambling – thanks again for all your helpful advice!!

    1. I agree about the treadmill. I like to be outside. 🙂 Waking is good exercise, though! Just keep up a good pace. Or try the Couch to 5K program if you really want to run. It’s a great way to get used to running in a safe and gradual way. 🙂

  33. Off track here too with weight ( sigh) … it’s hard with all the barbques and cookouts we go to. I’m interested in what recipes you plan to make to get back on track:)
Hope you have a faboulius Sunday!

  34. Another post that would be helpful to me would be one showing how a piece of clothing works together better with another versus a combination that might not look as good and why the one combo works better as far as proportion. Kind of a do this, not that post!

  35. I know people talk about the holidays causing weight gain, but I do fine through Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s Easter candy that gets me every year! I have gained 10 pounds in the last 5 or 6 months though and am beginning to wonder if I need to have my thyroid checked or if it’s just that I’m turning 40 this year. 🙂

I’d love posts regarding basics, like the shoes every woman needs in her summer wardrobe or that sort of thing. I also like to hear about what the new trends are for upcoming seasons, so I can plan accordingly.

Thanks for all the great recommendations and for keeping us fashionable!

    1. I am the same! Always the lowest during the holidays and then once Feb and March hit, it starts creeping back on. Summer is the worst. I usually have to buckle down in August and drop 5-10 so I can stay in my clothes.

  36. Yep, I know you have talked about skin care, but I am just in over my head trying to figure out just one or two products to use in addition to sunscreen. They still say retinol is the gold standard, but also I keep thinking about Vit C serums and that sounds important too. I am 57, my skin fools everybody into thinking I am in my 40’s, but we all know that could change any day at any moment lol. I bounce all over the place trying things, but that is wearing me out! Guess it is working for now, but definitely think I need some retinol – I see good PR on Roc, what do you think?

    1. I am as confused as you! I keep going back to my Rodan + Fields, but I’m not sure it’s the best. I believe there is some retinol in the system I use — I looked at it when comparing to the Olay product I tested out. I can tell if I like how something feels and smells but I have a hard time telling if it works or not.

  37. Morning Jo-Lynne! Yay for all the chicks being in the nest. I don’t think anyone feels like you’re complaining, just sharing. You are so right, the struggle is real. Summer is hard and travel is hard to keep your eating clean and once you get off a little bit it’s easy to slide. After just finishing a round of FWTFL this last week I was a little more lenient with my eating and we had company. Today I feel kinda squishy…lol. Back at it this week. I wish I was going back to the beach. Enjoy your time by the pool!

    1. Thank you, I appreciate that. I do have people tell me from time to time that I complain to much. LOL! And we wonder why people only put their “best” out to facebook. Sheesh! Anyway, now I always feel the need to clarify. Not complaining, just sharing the real deal. 🙂

  38. I love that you share the highs and lows of life. We are all in the same boat in many ways or we have been, at least. I can totally relate to summer eating. It’s hard to lose or even maintain in the summer with all the eating out, wine, socializing and in my case travel baseball schedule. My oldest son leaves for college in 6 weeks. It’s an exciting but scary time. So many mixed feelings. I’m doing a lot of shopping for him so trying to keep my purchases to a minimum. I do have that hair dryer in my cart at Nordstrom waiting for the sale. Have needed one for at least 2 months since mine only works on the High setting????. Have a great time at the Jersey Shore!! My old stomping grounds. Miss living in NJ so much this time of year!!

  39. Count me in as another reader struggling with my weight! Blah…I’d love to see some healthy but easy recipe ideas. I also wanted a quick follow up on those Oil of Olay cleansing cloths you blogged about. Are you still using them? I bought a package, thinking they’d be perfect for traveling and getting my eye makeup off, but unfortunately, they hurt my eyes terribly and I quit trying to use them.

So many other great suggestions have been made too. I’ll look forward to whatever you post next & certainly understand that you might need a break. Enjoy the beach (& I am a beach lover so I’d love to read about the beach area y’all vacation at & things to do there).

  40. Hi Jo Lynne,
Your coverage of the Nsale was so helpful, I really appreciated it!! It was my first time going as a card holder!
I’m with a couple of other ladies who requested posts about shapewear and fashion for teen boys and men. I would like to get my son and husband some nice button down shirts and have options for men’s jeans. Thank you!

  41. I’m with you on the weight gain. It’s the snacks and drinks while relaxing outside. I try to keep the rest of my eating healthy but still creep up on those scales. My philosophy is you have to enjoy life too. ????
A post on trends for this fall would be helpful. I like to get in my closet and decide what I need to add or replace before even entering a store. I’ve bought on impulse too often and there it sits with the tags until I donate it, so on so I’m trying a new angle.

  42. Hi, Jolynne! Love your blog. I’d like to see more from the Nordstrom sale, how to mix and match items, continue to feature some “budget” items,. It’s really helpful to see items that you wear multiple times in different ways or as parts of multiple different outfits. Maybe a post on building a wardrobe or building a seasonal wardrobe…basics and then other items to build in to mix and match. Thanks for what you do. I have a hard time putting outfits together in a way that’s fully tied together with shoes, bag, accessories, so your blog and IG really help.

  43. Just in case you haven’t heard this enough: You rock!! Thanks for the Nsale coverage! and all your hard work. I like the idea of shop your closet, some more Nordstrom sale coverage for fall ideas and using one piece in multiple ways.

  44. Hi, I always love your coffee talk posts, it’s nice you share your life with us! An idea for a post that I don’t think was mentioned yet…what you’re packing for the beach. I have gotten a little better in recent years with mix and matching. Thanks for your posts!

  45. Hi Jolynne! I always enjoy your blog for fashion inspiration, especially when I’m shopping for new items. However like many women, I have a closet full of clothes but sometimes need help putting outfits together in a fun and different way. Maybe a post with one item (either a fun statement piece or a wardrobe staple) styled two or three different ways? It might give us all ideas for new outfits from our closets. Hope this helps! Look forward to seeing your new posts!

    1. Yes, I like that idea. I guess I always feel that summer mix-it-up posts are boring because layering isn’t really an option — except I guess it is b/c it is freezing indoors! – but that’s a good challenge for me. 🙂

  46. I too love your coffee talk posts, especially this week when every blog I follow is posting constantly about the Nordstrom sale. I love all the fall clothes talk but it’s still in the upper 90’s here and I haven’t gone on our beach week yet so there is only so much FALL I can handle right now 😉 Summer is ALWAYS when I struggle with weight more, between the shorter/less clothing, the heat which makes outdoor exercise tricky, and all the opportunities to go out and overindulge it’s a constant struggle. I am committed this year to my 3X/week gym workout and trying to save the sweets/desserts for when they really count (Hello 50th birthday cake!) You gotta live, right?!?
I always enjoy your posts and have a constant realization of how much work you must put in to posting new content every day. I’d love to see posts showing your closet organization, updating outfits you already own to look fresh for this fall, skincare and makeup tips, great buys at lower price points like Target, Marshalls & Kohls, and continuing to interpret trends for mom’s like us. I also love updates on preparing to send your son off to college….having lived that last summer I can tell you it definitely changes the dynamic in the family to have the oldest leave the nest. Parenting is not for wimps 😉
Seriously, love what you put out there every day.
