Coffee Talk 08.09.20

Good afternoon! I’m going with the “better late than never” approach today.

I slept in this morning, and then I went for a walk before church instead of writing this post. I’ve decided that I have to start prioritizing exercise again. All too often, I get too busy working, and then it’s too hot to get a good workout in. I can feel and see the difference in my body, and I’m not liking it. I’m so thankful my hip issues seem to be subsiding, so now it’s time to get back into a regular exercise routine.

That means I need to get better about writing my posts ahead and scheduling them to post. I used to do that, but lately, I often end up writing a good portion of them the day they go live. I’ve tried to be okay with them going up later in the morning, but I really prefer to have them up first thing.

Speaking of my posting habits, I’m excited to tell you that Cyndi and I will be doing 26 Days of Fall Fashion again this September! We enjoyed the summer series so much, and these days with so much up in the air, these outfit series bring us a sense of normalcy. I hope they do that for you too.

In other news, my 25th wedding anniversary came and went this week without much fanfare. It just so happened to fall on the day that we had no power due to Hurricane Isaias, and I was at the Nordstrom sale.

We had planned a big celebration trip to Paris back in May that got canceled due to Covid, and since then we’ve both been so busy with work and life, we didn’t really think much about it as it approached last week. Thankfully, Paul made a dinner reservation for us last night at a local French restaurant that we love.

Even though we had to wear masks and go through the temperature check/Covid paperwork thing, once we were inside, we were able to take our masks off and enjoy a romantic dinner for two with the most amazing food. If you’re local, definitely splurge sometime and go to La Maison.

It’s only the second time we’ve dined inside anywhere since this whole mess started, and we were a little nervous, but it’s such a small place, and they did a great job at spreading people out and making us feel safe.

Before we left, we had R take our picture. My iPhone does some weird distortion thing, I don’t know why or how to fix it. I swear, our foreheads are not that large, lol!

Anyway, it was a nice night, and a much-needed escape from the day-to-day grind.

We’re still hoping to make it to Paris — we rebooked the apartment for next May, but I can’t imagine that international travel will be up and running by then. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. That seems to be the theme of 2020.

I’m not much of a planner, so I’m generally okay with the wait-and-see approach. We’ll get there if it’s meant to be.

Meanwhile, we’re just chugging along, trying to go with the flow and dodge each dart as it’s thrown at us. Ha! That’s sort of what it feels like, though.

I hope you all are having a good weekend. I’m going to sign off here and spend the rest of the afternoon enjoying the sunshine.

Have a good one, and thanks for being here!

  1. I need to get back on the exercise bandwagon, too. My gym reopened but I’m not comfortable going back right now so I froze my membership. I haven’t gained any weight but I can tell I’ve lost muscle mass and gained fat. I’m a night owl and have been sleeping later and later, but need to get up and get exercising early to beat the heat.
We also had to cancel a special trip this year. It was our 30th anniversary in April and my husband’s 60th birthday in May. We had a European trip planned for early September that was canceled of course. Fortunately we got a full refund and hope to go around the same time next year. Fingers crossed for life closer to normal next year!

  2. Happy 25th Wedding Anniversary to you! We *also* celebrated our 25th this year- on June 30th-and we had arrangements to go to Hawaii. Needless to say, it didn’t happen. I’m ok with that! I’d rather not travel that far during all of this. Like you, we’re shooting for next year. Enjoy your relaxing day!

  3. Happy 25th wedding anniversary!🎉 You and Paul look terrific! So glad you could enjoy a night out.
“Go with the flow” is my motto for August too (and what will be, will be). We have cancelled our summer and fall travel plans as well. Can’t imagine flying anywhere comfortably now. On the flip side, enjoying being a tourist in my home town. We have explored areas and done day trips these past few months of local areas. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon. Your pool and backyard looks like a pretty oasis.

  4. Looking loooong and lean 😉. If you reframe/crop your photo you will be able to adjust yourselves to more normal proportions. I’m not sure what that is but perhaps related to 3rd lens. I have iPhone 11 but the 2 lens version. I take tons of people pics and have not experienced this issue. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable on here can assist you.  Glad you got to celebrate your Anniversary – sounds lovely. Here’s a “yay” for fall fashions with Cyndi and anything that resembles normal. Thx.

  5. Happy 25th! I checked out The Maison website, what a perfect place for you and Paul to celebrate, since you couldn’t be in Paris!

  6. What a great picture of you and Paul!  I am so glad you had a nice evening out.  Isn’t it great that the children can take care of themselves, especially now, and a sitter was not needed.  You hip improvement is great news!

  9.  I think you are doing great handling all the set backs and cancelations you’ve had.  You made the best of your anniversary and your Paris celebration is something you still can look forward to and not be over already.  🙂  We need to count our blessings each day and be thankful for good health if we have it.  Have a good day and good week to come.  Thank you for being here or us.

  14. So funny!  I never would’ve noticed the forehead thing if you hadn’t mentioned it.  I really enjoy following you and your family.  I almost feel like I know all of you! Keep up the good work and I’ll be watching for those elongated foreheads!
