Coffee Talk 10.04.20

Well, hello there. I am going to have to keep this very brief because I slept late, and then I’ve been puttering and lost track of time, and it’s almost time for me to get ready for church. But I did want to hop on real quick and say hello.

I hope you had a good week. Mine was another busy one, where I felt like I could barely keep my head above water. There were some high points and some low points, but I have to say, it is good to be busy again!

It makes me remember last spring when work was soooo slowww, and  I was pretty much confined to the house except for the weekly grocery store run, which felt more like a military operation than a shopping trip.

I longed for the day when I would be running to and fro, trying to keep up with all of the errands and appointments and work obligations… when I’d be able to hop in the car and take a trip to the mall with a friend at a moment’s notice… when I could see my daughter perform in the band again.

And that day has arrived, hallelujah!

Just this week I’ve had a lunch/shopping date with a friend, I juggled various errands and doctor appointments, the grocery store no longer feels like a war zone, and we got to see our high school marching band perform… LIVE!

Yes, we are still dealing with Covid… but at least we’ve learned to live with it to a degree. I have no idea what this fall holds for us, but hopefully we are on a positive trajectory.

And so as not to ignore the white elephant in the room, I trust that our president is in good hands and is recovering quickly.

Meanwhile, I’m working on posts with ideas for cozy outdoor dining outfits and fall nail and makeup trends, and I have heard the call for early gift guides, so I’ll start planning those as well!

I hope you have a restful and relaxing Sunday!

  1. I would so love a post on cute outdoor dining outfits! That is the way my husband and I both feel most comfortable eating out. And we have gotten a surprising cold snap here in the south! Highs in the 70’s are unheard of down here. We ate out Friday night on the patio of our favorite Mexican restaurant, and I almost froze! They hadn’t even pulled out the heat lamps yet because it is usually still in the high 80’s this time of year in Atlanta! So, I am definitely looking forward to that post!

  2. Did you put anything on Instagram from Becca’s Friday night performance?  I haven’t been online much this weekend, so if you did I will go back to see it.  I hope she is happy with her performance.  More and more people in our neck of the weeds keep testing positive, so we are continuing to be vigilant.  We did go eat our favorite restaurant in town and took advantage of the covered porch dining.  It was a beautiful night to sit outside.  Have a blessed day M

    1. I didn’t. I always worry about putting those public b/c it basically gives away her high school. I decided I probably shouldn’t put those on my public accounts anymore.

  3. Jo-Lynne,

I really liked your post last year with Christmas gift ideas. I am glad you are doing it again this year! Yay!

  4. Happy Sunday! It’s a beautiful sunny day in Minnesota today with weather forecasters saying fall temps are returning this week, after a cloudy, rainy and cold week. We woke up to a temp of 28 degrees this morning- brrr.
I am excited for the upcoming post for dining outside and especially for the gift guides. My goal is to be done Christmas shopping by Thanksgiving. With 2020 being what it has been, inventory may be limited and the COVID virus competing with the typical winter ailments.
Having lunch with friends, going to a shopping mall and being able to watch your daughter perform in person are good for the soul.

    1. That is COLD for October! We are down in the 40s at night, but high 60s during the day. I hear that’s optimal weather for a pretty fall foliage season, so I’m happy about that!

  5. Yes, I’d love a post on staying warm but still looking good while dining outside. And a big yes, to an early Gift Guide. I have daughters and a daughter in law that are a little younger than yourself. What would you want this Christmas?
    Enjoy your Sunday!

    1. Oh, I am the worst to buy for, just ask my husband and kids! LOL. I buy what I want, and b/c of the blog, can justify almost anything. 🙂 I asked my mom for the P448 sneakers for my birthday, and that was a fun gift, but you would really have to know their taste to pick those out. I always love Yurman or Lagos jewelry. Paul usually does something like that for me. I also love those throw blankets from Nordstrom, I feel like you can never have too many. I often gift my mom pajamas from Soma or Nordstrom, or I buy her a sweater. Last year I got her a Tory Burch bag… again, hard to buy someone unless you really know their taste. Amy and I will get to work on those gift guides!

  6. Thank you for showing class and wishing our president well!

Also, I can’t wait for Christmas gift guides! You do a great job with that! So thankful for your help!

  7. Good Morning.  It’s so good that you had a busy and productive week.   I just wanted to say I so appreciate all your posts and your news letters and all the good info you tell us about.  I don’t always comment but I do read them all and appreciate you sharing your thoughts and your family life and your struggles and solutions to all the fashion trends and mistakes we all make.  Have a Blessed Sunday.    I was with my 6 and 7 year old grand children yesterday so this grandma is taking a nap.    Bev Brown

  8. I’m glad to hear things have returned to normal for you. It is very different in my little corner. Positive test results are up & it has entered our tiny community. I will be so glad when this is a thing of the past! Enjoy your very much deserved fun! 😊

    1. Oh, trust me. Things are far from normal for me. My kids are still all in virtual school, restaurants are only open to 50% capacity, and masks are required everywhere. The virus has been in our community since the beginning, and we are learning to live with it. Our numbers aren’t as good as some, but better than others. I’m just hoping we can keep our stores and restaurants open this fall.

    2. I meant to add, I’m so sorry your positive test results are climbing. It’s frustrating and scary when that happens. I, too, will be so glad when this is a thing of the past. 🙂

  9. I have learned so much about fashion from you. Today I shopped my closet as I got ready for church! Your ideas and positive attitude have really helped me get through this dark time in our country. Blessings to you and your family.
