Coffee Talk 11-17-19 ☕️

Greetings from Nashville! I hope you’re having a great weekend. I’ve been here at a conference since Thursday, and I’ll be flying home later today. Grab a cup of your favorite java, and I’ll fill you in on what I’ve been up to.

I’ve been blogging since 2006, back before social media and influencers were even a thing. Back then, the only people who read blogs were other bloggers, and it felt like this geeky secret club.

I went to my first blogging conference back in 2008, ironically the same one I’m attending this weekend, and it was amazing to get to connect in real life with people I had only known online. This community has been an important part of my life ever since.

Fast forward to today, and we’ve all kind of scattered as the space has evolved, so I wasn’t sure how many familiar faces I would see this weekend, but so many came back! At times it felt surreal to see so many people from my past all together again in one place.

Nowadays most people know what blogs are, but the blogging community is still something of a subculture, and blogging as a career can be isolating because most of us work alone at home so much of the time. It’s always a treat to get together with people who do the same thing I do and speak the same language.

I roomed with Cyndi Spivey, and we hung out most of the weekend with Deborah from Fabulous After 40, Jennifer from A Well Styled Life, Tania from 50 Is Not Old, and Dawn from Just Doing My Best.

Then last night I went downtown Nashville with Cyndi and Rhoda from Southern Hospitality. THAT was an experience!

I can’t begin to list all of the ladies I reconnected with from the past 13 years of my blogging career, but it was just so cool to see everyone again and catch up a little bit.

Beyond that, the conference itself was incredibly well-run, and the speakers were excellent. I don’t say that about many blogging conferences, and trust me, I’ve been to more than a few.

I’m going home inspired and encouraged, and armed with new tools and a long list of action points to experiment with and implement over the next few weeks and months.

Unfortunately I didn’t take a ton of photos — I always get busy talking and enjoying the moment, and afterwards I wish I had more pictures, but Cyndi and I did think to grab a quick picture this morning before we parted ways.

I also have some footage from the weekend on my Insta Story. I saved everything to my highlight reel under the Nashville tag.

Well, I better start packing if I’m going to get to the airport on time! It’s a beautiful day here on the east coast, so I’m hoping for no delays this time.

Have a blessed Sunday!

  1. And, so you should live in the moment! Getting together with like minded women, reconnecting with friends, and gaining inspiration from the conference has probably seen you off with new goals, and a real feeling of accomplishment. Loved seeing you together with other bloggers that I follow. I guess we both of good taste. 😉

  2. Welcome home, Jo-Lynne! Glad you had such a great time at the conference. I dug a pair of joggers out of my dresser to go to a doctor’s appointment Friday– back injury AND a broken toe, lol. Anywho, I wanted a put together an outfit that didn’t like I was in sweats. I ended up wearing blue/gray joggers, the white J Crew tee we’ve all been wearing thanks to you, and my black leather jacket with a scarf. Oh, and one snakeskin Chelsea boot. (surgical shoe on the other foot!) I was so happy with the outfit that I started wondering how else I could wear joggers as an alternative to jeans. I’d love to see you style some joggers to show us ways to wear them without looking like we’re headed to or from the gym.

  3. It sounds like the conference was great in so many ways!  I hope that your flight home was on time and uneventful.

  4. How nice for you to reconnect with old friends & room with Cyndi!  Nothing like some new ideas to recharge what your doing!  Glad you enjoyed your conference & sending prayers for a safe flight home!

  5. I loved seeing the photo of you and Cyndi! I’m sure you enjoyed being roomies and catching up! It sound like the conference was very beneficial for you as a blogger while enjoying seeing some of your blogging friends. I hope your trip home was uneventful!

  6. Conferences always give one such a boost. I know you will hit the ground running tomorrow morning. The picture of you and the other bloggers, some of who I also follow, was really good showing different clothes, styles, and body types. The picture of you and Cyndi is beautiful. You two girls really glow. Can’t wait to see what you all will be sharing.

  7. Jo-Lynne,
That’s a great handbag! You girls  look like you we’re having a great time. You and Cindi look like you could be sisters!

  8. I am a 65 year old who started reading Cyndi’s blog, which led me to yours.
Now I read both every day. It has helped me a great deal. Seeing what you both wear, and directing me to sources, sizing — as well as make up. I feel like a stylish woman, and am comfortable being me.
