Coffee Talk 12.31.17

Greetings, friends. Happy New Year’s Eve!!! Please pardon my janky cuticles, but I couldn’t resist capturing my snowy view yesterday morning. My daughter gave me that mug for Christmas, so as soon as I saw snow, I grabbed it and ran outside to take that picture. (I only had to take 25 shots before getting one that I liked. Ha!)

I love snow. I also hate being cold, but this time of year, it just makes sense. When it snows in March or April, I get cranky, but in December and January? Bring. It. ON!

So I want to apologize for any trouble y’all may have had with the reader survey yesterday. I guess it wasn’t the best day for me to post a survey, seeing as how I was busy getting ready for my party and not immediately available to troubleshoot any technical issues that might arise.

I’ve never had a problem with one in the past, but it seems that this time, the one I had embedded on the blog was wonky on mobile because my ads were making it jump around. Once I figured that out, I was able to remove the embedded one and just leave you with the link to the Google Form. I hope that one worked okay. Judging from the 1500 responses so far, I guess it worked out for many of you!

Can we just pause for a minute and think about that? Over 1500 of you took time out of your holiday weekend to take my survey. I appreciate that SO much.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you can FIND THE SURVEY HERE. It’s still live and accepting responses for the next week.

I’ll be writing a recap post to share the results and answer some of the comments and questions, so stay tuned for that. Meanwhile, I went onto my Instagram Story early this morning to show you how to get links to my IG outfits without LIKEtoKNOW.it because I had a few people ask about that. If that’s something you wanted to know, feel free to check it out.

If you don’t know how to find Instagram Stories, they are the circles at the top of your home feed. If there is a ring around it, the person has a new Story you can watch.

Moving on . . . As I mentioned, yesterday we had our big Shane family Christmas gathering, and it was a really nice time. Everything worked out — the snow stopped before everyone was due to arrive, and I guess the snowplows did their job because everyone got here safe and sound. Food and drink was plentiful, the White Elephant gift exchange was lively, and we all got caught up on each other’s lives. It ended around 6PM, and I think I was in bed by 7:15. I know, I’m a grannie.

In my defense, I didn’t go to sleep right away. At least, I didn’t mean to. I picked up The Magnolia Story at Target on Friday as my White Elephant gift, thinking I’d have time to read it before I gave it away. Classy, right? Since it was a White Elephant gift, I figured it was okay if it wasn’t in pristine condition — not that I planned to muck it up too much, anyway.

Alas, I only made it through the first few chapters before I had to wrap it for the gift exchange. I was planning to download it to my Kindle so I could finish it, but then guess who ended up with the book at the end of the night?

My 18-year-old son.

He was thrilled, as you can imagine. Ha! Especially since he almost ended up with a Fandango gift card. Oh, well. That’s the way it goes with the White Elephant!

All that to say, I took the book upstairs to read in bed, but I think I fell asleep by 7:30. I was wiped.

So who knows what happens when you go to bed at 7:30PM? You wake up at 5AM, that’s what. In fact, it was 4:49, to be exact.

Normally that’s not a problem because I like to get up early (although not usually THAT early) but this is New Year’s Eve, and I have a party to attend tonight. Um, yeah. I’ve got a feeling I’ll be taking a lonnnnnng nap this afternoon.

Anyway, that is about it for me! I know, such an exciting life I lead.

I hope you all have a blessed Sunday, and a happy and safe New Year’s Eve!!!

  2. Happy New Year’s Eve! I love the mug! Perfect for our weather here in Boston! Love reading your blog, Janky cuticles and all!! You are so not pretentious..You’re straightforward and practical. All great qualities! Looking forward to your reads in 2018!

  3. Good story about the book!   We have a gag gift exchange that we do on Christmas Eve.  This year was one of the best ones yet!  Someone got  “emercency underwear” that came in this tiny cube.  Looked like you had to add water to it!   Somone else got a bathroom basketball game where you suction cup a basket to the bathroom door & shoot hoops while sitting on the throne!  Our family get togethers are always crazy!
???? Happy New Year to you & your family!  ????

  4. I’m reading the Magnolia Story right now too! I hope you get your nap so you can ring the New Year in! Happy 2018!

  5. Too funny that your son ended up with the book!! Glad the party went well. Enjoy your nap and party! We are off to an NFL game in single digit temps with a negative real feel temp. Good times ha!

  6. Love your chatty posts on Sunday mornings, Jo-Lynne. And I realize now that I didn’t check that box on the survey. Maybe because I like everything, and I like the variety? I’m going out tonight, too. Had dinner with friends last night and we were all laughing about how we were going to stay up tonight. I don’t go to sleep early, but I do love being in my jammies by 9. I hope everyone has a safe, happy New Year!

  7. Sounds like the Shane family get together was very enjoyable and a lot of fun.  I’d say that you scored with The Magnolia Story staying in your home.  I am not a reader, but have thought about getting their book.  I hope that you are able to get in a good nap today, so that you can stay awake to welcome in 2018.  I am so thankful we rely on Him to get us through whatever crosses our paths.  Stay safe and Happy New Years Eve!

  8. Happy New Year! We’re actually going out tonight with friends for NYE. I’ll probably need a nap, too! Ha! I can almost remember when I could stay up to 1 am without any problem at all. Now 10 is really really hard!

  9. Happy New Year Jo-Lynne! I am the same with the snow…bring it on in December and January but by February, I am ready for Spring (which won’t come until May or later!) Glad you all had a nice Christmas celebration. I’d have been in bed at the same time! 🙂
