Coffee Talk 06.12.16

COFFEE

I was playing with Canva this morning and made this graphic. I am super talented at finding a gazillion ways to waste time. Ha!

So how was your weekend so far? Our schools let out for summer on Friday, and the kids are beyond excited. Even my typically reserved 16-year-old son seemed slightly giddy. Later that afternoon, we met friends at the swimming pool for dinner. It was a gorgeous evening, and we just enjoyed hanging out outside and reveling in the official start of summer vacation.

I love summer, it’s my favorite time of year. I believe I’ve mentioned that once or twice. Ha! My kids have a few camps and vacations to break up the summer, so my prediction is that it’s going to fly.

I went out to dinner with some girlfriends last night to send off a friend who is moving away. I have THREE friends who are moving away this summer. It’s crazy! I will miss them tremendously. They’re all positive forces in the blogging community. Fortunately, they are all three quite active in the blogging community so I won’t lose touch with them, but it’s still bittersweet. They are all excited about their next phase, so I’m happy for them.

I’ll share what I wore last night because I don’t plan to photograph this outfit for a dedicated blog post. It’s too similar to this one. But that Lush top sold out quickly, and this mixed media top from LOFT is a great substitute. I actually like it better because it’s a better color for me. It’s currently 50% off, making it $19.

This green mixed media top from LOFT is the perfect partner to your favorite white skinny jeans!

My earrings and necklace are also new — both from Stella & Dot. (I’m a rep for them, in case you didn’t know.) My earrings will be back in stock on July 4th, but these are also similar. I’m trying to challenge myself to wear some bigger earrings every once in a while, and I really love these.

Anyway, back to my weekend. Yesterday morning we took some outfit photos and stopped by our local Farmer’s Market, and then I finally finished reading The Good Neighbor. I really liked it. It’s the perfect light, summer beach read — clean (always appreciated) and well written.

After that, I took my daughter to the pool for a short visit before I had to come home and get ready to go out to dinner. In other words, I could really use a nap this afternoon. It’s been a busy weekend!

So I just realized that today is Father’s Day. Ooops! Good thing my husband doesn’t give a fig about Hallmark holidays — no offense to Hallmark. I love Hallmark, personally. They have the best cards, and I did a longterm campaign with them last year that was really fun. But my husband won’t care that I forgot it’s Father’s Day, and that’s a good thing because I got nuttin’.

Well, evidently next week is Father’s Day so I still have time. Haha!

I do want to say, however, that this man is the best father I could possibly ask for. He’s certainly not perfect; no one is, but he’s an active, loyal, and loving father and husband, and the world could use more of those. I’ve heard it said that one of the greatest things a father can do for his children is to love their mother, and I absolutely believe that to be true. I’m so grateful for him, Father’s Day and every day.

That’s one of my favorite pictures of us — from our trip to Turks & Caicos a couple of years ago. He hardly ever gets airtime on the blog because he’s always behind the camera, so I had to hunt to find this one.

I hope you all have a happy Sunday. It will be Monday before we know it!

  1. Happy Sunday JoLynne. I believe Father’s Day is next weekend! Loved your picks and pans post yesterday. Already purchased one of your faves.

  2. Goodness Gracious! You scared me to death but after checking…we still have a week til Fathers Day. Lol. It has been a busy weekend! Girl, get a nap in! Ha! Love you!

  3. Ahh! You had me sweating and scrambling to look at the calendar there for a minute! Lol!
    Great pic of you two!

  4. For a minute I thought I was in big trouble. I rushed to the calendar to double check. What a relief to see Father’s Day is really next week!

    1. LOL, sorry about that! I didn’t stop to think about the date. I know it’s always the 3rd weekend in June. But my husband was like, “hey, I think today is Father’s Day” and I totally fell for it.

  5. Aw, it’s always sad when friends move away! The older I get the harder it is to make good, quality friendships so it’s hard to see one go. But at least you are in touch with them through blogging. LOVE your pretty girls night outfit. That emerald green is so pretty and perfect with white jeans. And by the way, per your Snapchat question yesterday…I’ll just say wear white jeans as much as YOU want! 🙂 Blogger or not, it’s silly not to wear the clothes we own when it suits our needs! That’s why we bought them.

    1. Thank you, friend. Honestly, it isn’t the comment that bothered me. I know I wear white jeans a lot, and I make no apologies. They are my summer dressing up and going out uniform! 🙂 It’s the people who obviously know me and my habits but never comment until they have something negative to say. I don’t think they deserve to be heard, lol. I think I’m going to stop putting those thru.

  6. Hi Jo-Lynne,
I agree about how important it is for a father to love the mother. Looks like you have a good one. Happy Sunday.

  7. Hi there,
I love following your blog and I save your Sunday coffee talks to read over an “after church” cup of coffee- fun!
Great picture from a fabulous beach!

  8. Love the photo of yu and your husband on Turks and Caicos. My husband and I were there two years ago as well! it’s so beautiful there and we hope to return someday!

  9. Did you blog about your trip to Turks and Caicos? I couldn’t find a search function on the blog. We are headed there next month!!

  10. HAHA..I guessed you would have figured that out but I did do a hop over to my calendar just to make sure. I love your comment about the best thing a father can do is love the mother…I too have been very fortunate to be married to my best friend/husband/father of our kids for 43 years And he has kept us so financially sound for all those years so I could be a stay at home mom for many of them that we could retire early and move south. My only regret is that I did move away from 10 best friends and miss them so.

  11. Reading The Good Neighbor myself. Also appreciate a good clean read! Like it so far. Do you know what you might read next? Always up for book suggestions.????

  12. My husband’s birthday is tomorrow, so I never forget Father’s Day. Unfortunately I hate the fact that they are always close together. He does so much and I wish he celebrations could be further apart. Love the top and new jewelry! Enjoy summer! It really is the best!

  13. I love Canva! I recently started using it in the online classes I teach. I’m thrilled it’s summer, too. Enjoy!

  14. I just clicked through and ordered my Kindle copy of The Good Neighbor. Thanks for the suggestion. I love to read in the summer and I struggle to find good clean fiction that is also well written and interesting. I’m halfway through a freebie off of Amazon and I’m going to dump it because it just isn’t keeping my interest! Have a wonderful week!
