COFFEE TALK

It’s gonna be a fast one today! I have 5 minutes before I need to walk out the door. Fortunately I type super fast.

So we had a fun weekend, but it was full. The band preview was nice on Friday night, and yesterday we shot a few outfits and then I took my 10-year-old daughter to see The Secret Life of Pets. I can’t recommend it. It was really weird. There were some funny parts, but the bunny was just creepy, and I wasn’t a fan of the underworld scenes. But she liked it, so there’s that.

Last night we went to Chesapeake Night at our local swim club, and there was more seafood than you can shake a stick at. Our swim club is very small and old fashioned. I love it. It’s like being in The Wonder Years.

We went with friends, set up a table, brought our own sides and drinks, and just hung out and chatted all night. There was a DJ and the music was a great mix of old and new. It was a great way to close out the summer.

This week is our last week before school starts, so we’ll be busy with all the last minute doctor appointments and back to school shopping errands.

My Whole 30-ish diet is going well. I indulged in movie popcorn yesterday, and I sort of regret that, but otherwise I’m doing great. I haven’t touched a dessert or a granola bar. I haven’t had any potato chips or grains other than corn. Not that I think that grains are the root of all evil or anything, but I do think the modern day processing has made them hard for some of us to digest, and I feel better without them.

I didn’t try any new recipes this week, I don’t think. I made that Sweet Kale Salad twice. Have I shared that one with you? I modify it for our tastes and allergies. I use pumpkin seeds for crunch since we can’t have nuts and I omit some of the fruit. I do love the dried cranberries in it though.

I’ve been eating a lot of salads and canned tuna, and I made simple dinners — burgers one night, grilled chicken thighs another, usually with a side of steamed or sautéed veggies.

I need to stock up again and I’d like to try a few new things this week, plus I plan to make that artichoke chicken dinner again. That was yummy and so easy!

I really do have to dash. Sorry this was so frantic. Hoping to relax some this afternoon and read a bit. I’m reading Ben Watson’s book, Under Our Skin, and it is really good. I became a fan of his from his Facebook posts, and I ordered his book as soon as it came out, but I’m just now getting around to reading it.

Have a blessed Sunday!

    1. Ha. I know. I am so irritated! I made a new graphic with the right date, and somehow it downloaded with the old one, and I didn’t realize it till I’d left the house and it was posted. Oh well… 🙂

  1. Love the kale salad! Be careful with the canned tuna, JoLynne. You shouldn’t eat it more than once a week. The high mercury content could be a greater problem for you than eating those glutinous grains.
