Coffee Talk + What I Wore This Week

Greetings! I hope everyone is having a great weekend. I got home from Maine last night, and while I’m missing my mom and the gorgeous scenery and the perfect weather, it’s good to be home. Okay, so maybe I wish I hadn’t come back quite so soon. Haha!

Seriously, though, it was a rather rude awakening, getting home to another monsoon. I tell ya, the rain just won’t let up around here.

I had been planning a nice long run this morning, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. I can run in a little rain, but this is pretty heavy, and it’s not supposed to let up all day. I’m frustrated because I was doing really well with my commitment to run 5 days a week, and I only ran one of the last three days so I was counting on getting out there today. I’m thinking it might be time to get a treadmill.

Anyway, my mom and I had a nice visit, and it was good to see some of my extended family as well. I got my lobstah fix, and I had and clam chowdah twice, so I think I met my fresh Maine seafood quota.

This was the first trip I’ve taken in years that I didn’t bring clothes for a photo shoot, so I was able to pack a single carry-on bag. THAT was glorious! I’m so used to dealing with checking bags and baggage claim when I travel that I didn’t realize how much quicker and easier it is to do carry-on. I also checked in ahead of time and got a mobile boarding pass, so with that and my TSA Pre-Check, this trip was a breeze.

I didn’t take as many Insta Stories as I anticipated, but sometimes it’s better to be in the moment, yes?

So, a few matters of business, and then I’ll share what I’ve worn this week.

First of all, registration for the next Adore Your Wardrobe course ends on September 11th. If you’ve been considering that, now’s the time to jump on board!

Also, I shared this yesterday, but in case you missed it… You can now “favorite” any of the pieces in my shopping widgets that you like, and you will get notified via email when/if they go on sale!!!

Here’s how it works:

  1. Click on the ♥ Set Sale Alert to favorite an item from one of my product widgets.
  2. A modal will pop-up where you can enter an email address or use your ShopStyle account if you have one (you do NOT have to create a ShopStyle.com account).
  3. Within 30 minutes, you will receive an email collecting all of your recently favorited items from my blog that can be conveniently shopped directly from your inbox with my affiliate links.
  4. When any of your Favorites go on sale, you will receive a follow-up email alerting you of the price drop.

I hope that worked for those of you who tried it yesterday. I know it means more emails, but hopefully these are emails you will want to receive!

I’ll try to remember to include those shopping widgets in each post. Also, I know this probably sounds like I’m beating a dead horse to some of you, but I want to be completely transparent: I do make a commission when you shop through my affiliate links. This is partly how I earn an income from this blog. (I also earn income from ads and sponsored posts.)

I know most of you understand this and have no problem with it, but there is a subset of people who resent bloggers making money this way or feel it’s underhanded because not everyone understands this is how it works, so I try to make this disclaimer fairly frequently just to be sure I’m being transparent and up-front about it. It’s pretty much the same thing as going to the mall and having the sales associate help you… you aren’t charged any extra, but they may get a commission for helping you. As I often say, just consider me your virtual stylist…

Also, for those who make it a point to shop through my links (thank you!), I’ve added a list of stores I regularly shop at to my sidebar — let me know if you want me to add any others. Those are affiliate links, so if you’re shopping at one of those stores and want to shop through my links, you can click on any of those to get to the store through my link.

Here is what it looks like: (this is a screenshot, so those links are not clickable here in this post.)

Finally, I rounded up my outfits from this week. There aren’t a ton, but I thought I’d share what I have since things tend to sell out so quickly these days.

What I Wore This Week

This was my church outfit last week. The blouse, shoes, and bag are old; but the jeans and denim jacket are current. Also, I’ve been wearing this silver X cuff a lot lately, and I really like how it’s delicate but substantial enough to make a statement.

SHOP THE LOOK:

I wore this to run some errands earlier this week. I’m still trying to like the cropped straight jeans. Holli, a faithful reader and commenter with a style very similar to mine, suggested I try these Vigoss jeans, and I really do like them. They read as more of a cropped flare, but I think that’s why I like them — they fit more snug to the thigh, which seems to work best for me. Also, they’re on sale for $40! For size reference, I’m in the 28. This brand does stretch some with wear, so size down if in between.

Also, this sweater is on major markdown, and it’s a nice transition piece. I also linked the same style in navy — maybe a better choice going into fall. For size reference, I have the small, but it’s tight in the arms. You may want to size up in this one.

And I know I’m late to the game on this one, but these sandals are perfect for this in-between season when it’s still hot outside, but you want colors that look more like fall.

SHOP THE LOOK:

This was another day of running errands and working from home. I’m obsessed with this sleeveless cowl neck top right now.

SHOP THE LOOK:

I wore this to the hair salon. It was a hot day, but I knew I’d be cold inside, so I wore jeans. This top is old, but I love it. It has such a flattering cut and the detail on the sleeves elevates the look.

Also, I’m loving my slides this fall — I feel like they take a summer outfit right into fall on these hot days we’ve been having.

SHOP THE LOOK:

And then this is what I wore traveling on Thursday. I wore the same thing on Saturday, except I swapped out the cowl neck top for a white v-neck tee.

I almost always wear this cardigan when traveling. It’s so cozy and flattering and looks great with everything. For size reference, I have a medium in the cardigan and a small in the cowl neck top.

SHOP THE LOOK:

I’m thinking I really need to get a new pose. Ha! This is what I wore on Friday, my only full day in Maine. It was a gorgeous high of 72 degrees that day, and this lightweight olive cardigan was perfect with my high rise skinnies and an off-white tee.

Also, this was the first day I wore these loafers all day, and they definitely came through for me. SO comfortable, great support… those of you who want flats with support need these!!!

Since inventory at Nordstrom is low, I’m linking to them at other retailers as well. I’m wearing my usual size 8, but they’re a tad snug (although not at all a deal breaker; they do soften up with wear.) That said, if you tend to run in between sizes, you may want to size up half.

SHOP THE LOOK:

And that’s a wrap! I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend!

    1. Hey Krista, I’m probably too late with this but I’d also need to know more information like climate and time of day and venue. I hope you came up with something cute. When in doubt, a pretty dress is usually a safe bet.

  1. I enjoyed this post I feel like there was a lot of great information. I love cardigans, Moto jackets, and vest. The extra piece seems to really make the outfit. I also enjoy any accessory such as statement earrings, necklace and/or scarfs. Thank you for all your help… I am your size and you take the guess work out of shopping for me Have a Blessed day!

  2. I really like the Vigoss jeans on you!   I agree with you that the fit in the thighs is very flattering on you.   Thank you for posting great outfits, such inspiration for us readers.

  3. I love the Lou & Grey sleeveless turtleneck; I am ordering it today!
Question: I know these are probably out of your immediate “comfort zone” but I just bought these tie waist black pants from LOFT: https://www.loft.com/tie-waist-wide-leg-pants/472047?skuId=25767667&defaultColor=2222&catid=catl000014
And they are SO cute on; very figure flattering and comfortable. I bought the same top to wear with them as on the model, but would love more ideas of how to style them into fall (especially for work). I usually wear flats (either sandals, slides, or ballet flats). I need cute fall tops that will tuck in to wear with these. Would you consider styling these types of pants? They seem to be everywhere and anywhere these days!
    I also bought these: https://www.loft.com/hydrangea-garden-fluid-drawstring-pants/463951?skuId=25443158&defaultColor=1960&prodId=463951

    1. Those pants are cute, but that is a style makes me look like a house, lol. It’s because I have wide hips and thinner legs, but they hang straight down from the widest part of me. They also require a top tucked in to show the waist and a more fitted top to offset the volume on the bottom, and with my short-waist and larger chest, I can’t tuck in tops — especially when the pants are a higher rise. I am willing to try them and show you want I mean… but it will be quite hilarious. 😉 That said, I can definitely try to come up with some ideas that I think would be cute with them for you! 🙂

      1. You are so funny the way you describe your body!! You photograph really well; that and you’re really good at dressing for your body type. 😊 I guess that’s why you’re a trusted fashion blogger. 😉

I’m tall, long waisted, with narrow hips and a medium chest. I’ve put on an extra 8 pounds or so since menopause hit so I don’t really like things that are tight around the waist, although because of my height I can still pull off showing my waist (the tie-waist pants fit great).
I can’t wait to see what you come up with for those tie-waist pants for fall!! 🌿🍁🍃🍂🌻

        1. Well, I’ve had 30 years to figure it out, haha! And I still learn something new every day… this blog is truly my style journey as well as (I hope) a resource for others. But when I took Adore Your Wardrobe, it suddenly explained why some of those styles never looked right on me. It was totally eye opening — all of the things I kind of knew instinctively suddenly made sense in a very objective way.

  4. Great post. Love the looks and the easy buttons for shopping and savings! Thanks for doing the hard work of shopping and putting outfits together so I don’t have to do it.
Oh, and you should definitely get a treadmill. Take it from a former runner. Easier on your joints than pavement, plus great for any kind of weather. Also great for binge watching anything you want without guilt if you have a tv and a fire stick to go along with the treadmill…just a thought 🙂

  5. I actually read this while eating breakfast this morning, but technical challenges kept me from commenting.  We would love to have some rain replace the heat and humidity down here.  Since I am late to the UGG shoes party, Zappos will notify me when they are back in stock.  All of the various sites I checked were sold out in my size.  Since you also have narrow ankles and love the shoes, I am mak8ngbthe assumption that they don’t rube & down too much.  I have a question regarding using the links you provide for some of the retailers:  if I use the link, to help your business, can I still easily access my account with that retailer?  Thank you!

  6. Great post, and what a gorgeous picture of the “pond” in Maine!  I really like your new feature allowing us to “heart” something we’re interested in AND how awesome to receive an email when it’s on sale.  I also like your link for stores that you like.  I’m happy to come to your blog and click through when shopping.  I continue to learn so much from you and am more than willing to support the Blog.  Perhaps you could add Pottery Barn, and maybe Zappos?  Thanks again!

  7. I’d be happy to come to click on your stores when I shop.  Thats a great idea for you.  🙂  Question….have you started Lives yet?  I know its been busy with school starting etc. just really liked them.  Glad you had a great trip.

  8. Thanks for the mention! I think they look great on you too and probably more suited for your height than mine. I’ve been wearing them slightly cuffed with tees and shorelines until I get the nerve to shorten them, lol. I pretty much love all these outfits, but you really have me considering the sleeveless cowl neck. I may need that one!

  9. I love all these outfits on you.  My favorite is the travel outfit with the black cardigan and grey top, but I also like the straight jeans for a more casual and relaxed look.  I like that the top is more fitted and tucked in (or semi-tucked) and the little flats show your ankles.  I still think I prefer you in skinnies, but that’s nice for a change.  What a gorgeous photo from Maine!  Makes me jealous as I sit here in what feels like endless summer….
