Coffee Talk + What I Wore

Greetings, friends! I hope this weekend is treating you well. We’ve had a really fun time with family this week, despite a few hiccups along the way.

My daughter is loving the middle school marching band, and she has one more week of band camp this week, which she’s looking forward to. She was so nervous last week, so it’s good to see her settling in. She also has her middle school orientation this week, where she gets to find her locker and learn her class schedule. Then on Friday, we move my son into his dorm at college! Suffice it to say, it’s a fairly big week for the Shane kids, and I’m preparing myself by stocking up on Kleenex.

I thought I’d share what I wore this week since I didn’t get to do that yesterday, and I also wanted to let you know that Kelly Snyder of Adore Your Wardrobe fame is starting a new From Frustration to Functional Closet Challenge this month.

Registration for From Frustration to Functional is OPEN!

I’ve talked about this before, but if you’re not familiar or need a refresher, this 14-day course unpacks all of the reasons behind why women are frustrated with their wardrobes, and it’s a great way to prepare for the next Adore Your Wardrobe course, should you decide to sign up for the September session.

Adore Your Wardrobe is a paid course, but From Frustration to Functional is completely free, and it’s a brilliant program. It really gets underneath the surface to the whys of our wardrobe frustrations AND how to start fixing them. Registration is open now through midnight on Friday, August 24th.

It’s a great time to start working on your closet so it will be all fresh and ready for fall!

Meanwhile, here is what I wore this week. I didn’t capture many looks, I actually lived in the same denim shorts and t-shirt most of the week, and my room was torn up for a few days I couldn’t get my mirror selfies, but here’s what I’ve got.

What I Wore This Week

I wore this first outfit to church last Sunday. The top is new, and it’s a bit of a splurge, but it’s also 40% off. I ordered it online, and honestly, I expected the material to be a little bit dressier for the price — I was envisioning more of a silky material, but it’s 100% rayon. Still, it’s really pretty, and I got a lot of compliments on it. I like how it has some shape through the waist without being clingy. I sized up to a medium for a little extra wiggle room, and also in case it shrinks.

And again, these shoes are spendy but on a really good sale, and they even restocked a few sizes. They also have a few other colors and sizes at Shoes.com.

I wore this one day this week to run some errands. Nothing new, but I love these pink denim shorts for something a little bit different. For size reference, I’m wearing the 29. Also, these Caslon boyfriend shorts come in the same color, for a non-denim option.

And this white v-neck tee has become my go-to this summer. I sized up to a medium in this as well.

I didn’t wear this this week, but I wanted to share it because this blouse is on sale and fully stocked. I think it’s such a great piece to dress up or down as shown here. I have a small in this top, for reference. I’m also wearing a white cami underneath because it’s sheer.

And finally, I wore this on Friday when we were hosting a family get together, and you can see my newly painted bedroom in this picture! We went with the same Edgecomb Gray / Dove White combo that we’ve used throughout most of the house. I like how it provides a cooler backdrop for my outfit photos.

I also moved my mirror to the far corner of the room, but I actually think I liked the other background better so I don’t know if it will stay here or not. I have a lot more I want to do to the room, but I’m trying to take things one step at a time.

I picked up this twist sleeve top on sale at Loft, and once again, I’m wearing a medium. It’s a little big, but I know it will shrink, and the small was definitely too small. My favorite white shorts are old and almost sold out, but they’re on a great sale if your size is in stock. Plus I linked up some other alternatives below.

  1. My prayer for you and your family is that the Lord will guide you and support you during this season of change for your family.

  2. Hi Jo-Lynne,  Off topic, but I ordered a Wildfox pullover during the Nordstrom sale and love it!  Not sure if it’s the same as your white because I think it would be too warm for any summer wear, but if your white is a summer version, I can see why you like it so much.  And somehow, the extra long sleeves work.  I think the cuff is tight enough (not too tight) to keep it all in place.  Anyway, I mentioned you in my review and I thank you for all the great recommendations.  My wardrobe is so much more wearable since I started following you!

  3. I am so glad that your middle school aged daughter enjoyed the first week of band camp.  This next week will probably be even better for her!  The tee with the twisted sleeves is so nice.  I know that you are glad to have the master bedroom painted so that you can proceed with decorating it.  On Wayfair.com, when an item is sold out, do they usually restock it later?  I found a ladder bookshelf I want, but the color I want is sold out now.  🙁.  Have a blessed day!

  4. My second grandchild left for college today. One left a week ago. Different schools in GA. Will miss them but time goes so fast they will be home for Thanksgiving before we know it. But I know it is different for parents. You stay really busy so that is good. Love your blog and excited about Adore your Wardrobe. Unfortunately Aug is full but hope I can get in in Sept. Hope you have a great week.

  5. I’m trying to find a nice pair of joggers like the ones you styled at the beach.,. I thought I had found a pair but feel like the waist band is too wide and also too much extra fabric in the front… I can really pull the draw string in a lot but feel I can’t size down to a small or the butt may be too snug??? What size are yours? I’m 5’3 140 and trying for that last 5 lbs for wiggle room. Lol any suggestions I’m also not short waisted either.( so concerned about the look in the front) Would love any suggestions…
    Thanks Karen

  6. Great outfits. I love the floral tank!

Good luck getting your son off to college. I hope you don’t need too many boxes of tissues.
