#CoffeeTalk and a Giveaway

Coffee Talk | Old School Blogging with Jo-Lynne Shane

You guys. Wow. Just wow. This week. I have no words. It’s been a whirlwind. We’ve barely done any decorating for Christmas. Fortunately we did put up our first tree last weekend, but we’ve done nothing else. I guess we were all waiting for this weekend, but now it’s rainy. No one wants to go chop down a tree in the rain, and let’s just forget about putting the outdoor decorations up. Of course, with my bum foot, I can’t go tromping around a tree farm anyway.

So I got my MRI on Thursday. I don’t get the results till Tuesday. I thought maybe my foot was getting better on its own, but then no, yesterday it was all painful again. Too good to be true. Of course.

I don’t know WHAT it is. It is bizarre. I am going on YEAR TWO of being benched from regular exercise. I feel like my bones are disintegrating or something. I hope the MRI sheds some light… but I fear what next step might be. (The next step… haha.)

So it hasn’t been all bad. We’ve had some fun family times this week.

We called a family movie night on Tuesday, and we spontaneously went out to eat for dinner on Wednesday. That is rare for us on a weeknight, but I wasn’t in the mood to cook and the fridge was bare so we went to a local restaurant that serves organic/sustainable/non-GMO type of stuff (Station Bistro, for you locals), and it was really nice.

And of course last weekend we went to see Beauty and the Beast at The Arden Theatre, which I just discovered I was spelling incorrectly the whole time. You know… tomato, to-mah-to… theater, theatre….

Speaking of the Arden TheatRE . . . I get to give away a family four pack of tickets to Beauty and the Beast. Yes, I realize this only applies to you local yokels, but if you’re interested, you can use the widget at the end of this post to enter the sweepstakes. I’ll randomly select a winner next week.

In other not-so-exciting news, I went to the dentist this week for the first time in over a year. I’ve FINALLY moved to a new dentist. For NINE years, we have lived here, and I’ve driven 45 minutes back to my old dentist. Finally I decided to try someone new, and it was horrible. I kept getting choked on the water from that water pick thing they use these days. They were all pretending I had dental anxiety, and I just wanted to scream, No, you just don’t know how to do it right!! But of course I just smiled and nodded and played along.

Plus they took an hour with these invasive x-rays and examining every tooth and gum. That was BEFORE the cleaning. I was there for two hours. Modern medicine is out of control, I’m just sayin’. Just clean my teeth, tell me where the cavities are (because there are ALWAYS cavities) and let me get on with my day.

Fortunately my cavities this time (see that? I told you I always have some) are all in the same quadrant so I only have to suffer through one novocaine needle. But that means I have to go back. Oh, and then there’s the matter of those wisdom teeth that are literally falling apart that need to be removed. I’ve been ignoring them for years, but it’s getting to the point that something must be done soon. Ugh.

Have I ever told you how much I DETEST the dentist? No, it is not “dental anxiety”… I just do not like people in my mouth. And I hate needles. I guess I do have a bit of needle anxiety… it’s because of those horrid novocaine needles.

Then last night I started getting severe pain every time I took a bite or a drink, so I started fishing around and there is part of a filling missing from one of those teeth in that upper right quadrant. So my plan to put off the dental work till after Christmas is kaput. I need to call and get this taken care of asap. Every drink of coffee I take this morning feels like torture. Naturally I’m still drinking it because hello, I don’t function without coffee.

So about that giveaway. If you’d like to see Beauty & the Beast at The Arden Theatre, it’s showing till February 1st. We had a great time. I wrote about it last weekend if you want to know more.

  1. Hi Jo-Lynne! Every time I leave a comment I feel so dorky. I don’t know you and it’s just weird to comment to a stranger. BUT…I feel compelled to say something to you every now and again! And that something is: I love your blog.
Thanks for keeping it entertaining, funny, and so very readable. You’re a great writer!
P.S. I hate, hate, hate the dentist, too. (I know, hate’s a strong word but it applies here.) Whenever I go to the dentist it’s like opening Pandora’s box. Dentist visits seem to create tooth problems for me. I’m sorry you have to be dealing with your foot and now teeth, too. Good luck! Hang in there. Good karma is being sent your way!

    1. Aw, thanks, Jodi! Yes, Pandora’s box… so true! I mean, I know I had cavities up there, but they must have dislodged something with all their poking and prodding and now I have a bigger problem than I had to begin with. Ugh. SO annoying. Oh well… guess it needed to be taken care of sooner or later.

  2. Oh man. The dentist is my nemesis! I hope they can fix the filling ASAP. No woman should have to go without coffee at Christmas time! 😉

  3. We’ve had brunch on Sunday’s at Station Bistro because it’s on our way home from church. Haven’t tried dinner yet, putting it on the list!

    1. I’ve always wanted to do their brunch, but our church lets out late and it’s on the opposite side of town. I do occasionally go there for breakfast with a friend. I love the atmosphere in there.

  4. I would take my daughter for sure. I could take the boys too, but it might be more fun to take a friend of my daughter’s and their parent.

And on the dentist front – I have someone else you should try. Seriously. That sounded awful!

  5. I’ve been gone on vacation, and I’m finally getting caught up on my favorite blogs this morning! So sorry your foot is still giving you trouble. That must be so frustrating. I hate going to the dentist too – there’s always something wrong, even though I take great care of my teeth. I hope you have a great weekend!

  6. Hello,
I enjoy reading your blog, because we are around the same age and live in the same area. I would love the opportunity to take my family to see Beauty & The Beast at the Arden.
    Thanks!

  7. Hi, I am sorry to hear about your dental experience. I think we all have some form of “dental anxiety” I laughed when I read that as I have never actually heard it called that.

There is hope for a good dental experience! I just went to a new dentist and it only took a half hour for him to fix my tooth that I also had lost a piece of (mine was from eating popcorn). This dentist put the needle in slowly and then took forever to push the Novocaine in and guess what, I didn’t feel it. Can you believe that? And normally I take three or four needles to freeze and he did it in one. And he was pleasant too!

I love your Christmas tradition of chopping down a tree together. We did that for a few years when the kids were young. We live where there is snow and it can get very cold so we would always take a thermos of hot chocolate with us too. Such great memories.

Thanks for making me smile with your blog. You are one talented, pretty and busy lady!

    1. Hi Connie, what a sweet comment!! I never thought of bringing a thermos of hot chocolate… fun!!!!

So yeah… that awful Novocaine needle… they do it slowly at my dentist too and it’s not that it HURTS so much as it is just so GROSS that a needle is going into my GUM. I AM SHUDDERING JUST THINKING ABOUT THAT! I really think for me, it is more about the needle than the pain and the IDEA of what is going on. Which means it is hard to find a good solution. The slower they do it, the more freaked out I am, but then of course, I’m always glad when it doesn’t hurt.
