Color Crush for Fall: Olive Sarma

Happy Friday, friends! Today I’ve got two fall looks for you featuring Nordstrom made brands and one of my favorite colors for fall — olive. Or, more precisely, Olive Sarma.

I noticed that Nordstrom uses Olive Sarma to describe this shade of green, but I had no idea what sarma is, so I googled it. #inquiringminds

Evidently, sarma is a Turkish dish of cooked grape-vine leaves or other greens wrapped around a filling of grains and meat. Have you ever had it? It sounds delicious!

But this is a fashion blog, not a food blog, so let’s talk about these outfits.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Nordstrom’s best kept secret is their in-house brands. They’re very well priced for the level of quality, and they make a wide variety of styles for work and weekend.

This camo jacquard sweater is part of their Caslon line, known for effortless everyday classics. This sweater is 71% cotton, 29% nylon, so it’s very soft and comfortable and has no wool to aggravate sensitive skin.

This easy pullover is perfect for pairing with your favorite blue jeans and boots. I love the subtle nod to camo print with the contrasting solid-color ribbed trim.

It runs true to size or maybe a little big; you could size down if you want a closer fit.

Caslon also makes these tapered-leg chinos in Olive Sarma.

These casual pants are a nice break from my usual denim uniform, and they pair perfectly with this oversized v-neck sweater by Chelsea28.

I’ve shared this sweater once before with blue jeans and leopard flats for a casual weekend vibe, but I can see wearing this look with the olive chinos and snake print mules to work or church.

This sweater has been one of my go-tos this fall when I want to look relaxed but polished. The knit is the ultimate in softness, and the oversized silhouette with high/low hem is right on trend.

Unfortunately, the black recently sold out, but there are other colors available. (I’m wearing the small, for reference.)

If you’re looking for black, this dolman sleeve v-neck sweater is another nice choice. It’s shorter than the sweater I’m wearing, but it has the same effortless, everyday vibe, and it would look great with these pants.

These mules are the BP. brand, which does a great job with affordable, on-trend shoes and boots at a wallet-friendly price point.

But again… they sold out between the time I purchased them and when I got around to shooting this look. This seems to be a reoccurring theme. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Another good option would be these Treasure & Bond mules, which come in 4 colors including a similar snake print. Also, they’re 50% off!

Nordstrom even has their own line of jewelry, and this bezel stone station necklace adds sparkle and shine without overwhelming the simple outfit.

I wear it a lot when I want a delicate piece to fill an open neckline.

If you’re looking to refresh your fall wardrobe, be sure to check out the Nordstrom made brands. They have just about anything you could possibly need, at a variety of price points to fit almost any budget.

Also, if you haven’t already, be sure to sign up for the Nordy Club so you can start earning rewards and get perks like free alternations credit and invitations to special events. And don’t forget about their free shipping and free returns, as well as the contactless curbside pickup option.

I hope this post gives you some fall style inspiration for work and weekend!

  1. I have the Olive sweater, purchased after your previous recommendation. Love it! It does shed when I wear with black jeans, but easily cleaned up, I just use tape to rub over the jeans.

  2. My daughter would love the Camo sweater (good Xmas idea) and I like how your jeans hit perfectly at your ankle for those booties. We finally got a cool front in south Texas so now I’m excited to pull out some fall clothes to wear to work today 😃

  3. Jo-Lynne—do you wear a cami or tank under the high/low v neck? I bought it and love it but struggle as to what to wear under it for warmth. Thanks.

  4. Love this look! Nordstrom has excellent quality of clothes. Sorry to hear that band practice got rained out. We are experiencing weather “mishaps” here too: expecting a Rocky mountains winter squall tonight with up to 4″ of snow. Ugh! We are all stocked up and ready to hunker down and stay indoors. So I encourage you to go on your country drive and enjoy the fall foliage as much as you can. Old man winter is coming all too soon.

  5. Love both these looks. Didn’t know that color existed lol.. we were just admiring the beautiful red leaves on our maple trees yesterday and then this morning when I left for errands the colors of the leaves reflecting on the lake that was as still as glass reminded me why fall is my second favorite season! This time of year we are normally planning our trip to Maine where we would also enjoy the foliage oh well maybe 2021🤷‍♀️.

  6. I think merchandise is selling out because of all the incredible sales lately. That Rails blush utility jacket I shared on your FB page went down to $80 the day I purchased it!
The black sweater you’re wearing above is very similar to one I just bought from Anthropologie…..it’s a relaxed fit and comes in black plus a few other colors I think. I don’t have a link but I’m sure you could find it. Mine just arrived in the mail today!
BTW- have you seen “Emily in Paris” on Netflix? I just started watching and last night there was a bit on “fashion influencers” that was pretty fun to watch! They’re all invited to a special brand luncheon and all the influencers are in this room taking selfies and posting on Instagram ignoring each other.

    1. I’ve heard about it, and I wanted to watch it but I looked it up on Common Sense Media and I wasn’t sure I wanted to watch with the girls around… what are your thoughts on that? (They are always around, lol!)

      1. Yeah, so I would say you should watch it alone.  There’s content that you probably wouldn’t want to watch with your girls.
I finished watching all of season 1 over the weekend. It’s just fun and frivolous and the scenery alone is magnificent. (I miss traveling so much!) It was created by Darren Star who did “Sex and the City” and has that same “vibe.”

  7. I hope that Caroline has a great weekend!  I really like both outfits!  I would never think to put black and olive together, but you make it look so nice, so I need to try it.  It was 56 here this morning & has made it to the upper 70’s.  It’s actually hot in the sun.  At least I got to open the windows today and we’ll be able to leave them open until Monday.  Enjoy your weekend!

  8. I love olive & black together (& also navy & olive), so these are giving me so many ideas for shopping my own closet right now. Thank you! Hope your weekend will be a beautiful one.

  9. Love this look! One of my favorites. I’m looking to replace my olive skinnies as they are too much of a low rise. I ordered the cropped flares from JCrew but love these olive pants. May have to get them!! Have a wonderful weekend!

  10. The chinos look more of a gray-green on you, and with more of a brown undertone on the website. Can you tell me what the true color is? I like the color on you, not so much the one on the website! Thanks!
