Cottage Cheese Spinach Dip

This Cottage Cheese Spinach Dip has all the taste of traditional spinach dip but no nasty chemical packets!

Spinach dip is one of my favorite party snacks, but I haven’t enjoyed it in YEARS because it uses those nasty chemical-laden packets of ranch-flavored salad dressing mix. Who KNOWS what’s in those packets?

For some reason, it never occurred to me to make my own spinach dip with real food ingredients until I accepted this challenge by Daisy brand and agreed to create a recipe using their cottage cheese.

I’m a huge fan of Daisy brand. I always seek them out when I’m shopping at the conventional grocery store because they have the only sour cream products I’ve found that do not contain fillers. Even some of the organic brands contain fillers. But Daisy is simply, “Grade A cultured cream.” That’s it. Compare labels sometime. It’s amazing what atrocities can be committed against cream!

Likewise, the ingredients on Daisy Brand Cottage Cheese is simply, “Cultured skim milk, cream, salt.”

I love their new design. The dark blue lids signify their regular products and the light blue are their low-fat varieties. daisy-family

You know me, I’m all about full-fat dairy, so I picked up the Daisy Cottage Cheese with the dark blue lid and went to Pinterest looking for recipe ideas. I found a recipe for cottage cheese spinach dip, and I adapted it to suit our personal tastes.

All you need is a 16-ounce carton of cottage cheese, a box of frozen chopped spinach, water chestnuts, onion powder, garlic powder, parsley, salt, and a clove or two of garlic (if you’re brave! You can omit the raw garlic and just add more garlic powder if you prefer.)

I put the cottage cheese in the blender to make it a smoother consistency. Then I just added the spinach (thawed and drained dry), chopped water chestnuts, minced garlic, and the spices. I served it with rice chips but you can certainly use your favorite crackers or even vegetables for a super low-cal party snack!

Look how pretty!

  1. I *heart* Daisy products. I met them at BlogHer in San Diego a few years back and have been hooked ever since. Love that there’s only a few ingredients in every one of their products and it’s all natural stuff you KNOW!!! I haven’t done their cottage cheese in ages but theirs is the only Sour Cream I’ll buy

  2. Hmmm, I’ll have to pay more attention and look for Daisy products. I can’t stand the texture of cottage cheese so don’t know that I’m up for this recipe lol.

  3. Wow, I never thought about my sour cream having gross stuff in it. That stuff is seriously everywhere!! Anyway, I love spinach dip and am definitely going to try it with cottage cheese!

  4. PRINT button doesn’t work with my iPad or iPhone.  And can’t copy and paste because of ads. Sounds like a great recipe though. : )
