Daily Mom Style 02.27.13

It’s almost the end of February, and I really WANT to think that spring is on its way, but I have lived in this area long enough to know you really can’t get your hopes up until at LEAST April 15th. You can expect a lot of whining and complaining until then. This winter has been ao pathetic. Is it too much to hope that we might get an early Spring? Probably. Well anyway….

day 1

I picked up this scarf at Target last week and I’ve been trying to figure out what to wear it with. This Banana Republic Striped Scoop Neck Pullover is also new, and I liked the idea of pairing stripes and floral, but I’m not sure this is the right stripe with the right floral. I posted a photo on my Facebook page wearing it with a necklace and with the scarf and asked for opinions . . . and did I ever get plenty! As usual, not everyone agreed, but in the end, I wore the scarf. (I was going out to lunch with a friend.)

I’ve noticed a lot of stylish women wearing lighter boots (grays and browns) with dark pants lately (dark denim and black leggings), and I like the look. If I’d worn black with this outfit, I think it would have been too bland.

By the way, Banana Republic  is having a 30% off sale that ends today (use the code BRSHOP30). I never pay full price at BR. They run sales like this at least once a month.

day 2

I can’t remember where I wore this, but I like the combination of black, gray and plum. I tried to find a scarf that worked but I don’t have one so I added this long silver necklace.

day 3

This is my weak attempt at getting an outdoor photo on a windy day. I am so tired of indoor photos!! I wore the Target scarf AGAIN with this gray drapey sweater. I thought it might pop nicely on white rather than the black tank I would typically wear with this outfit, so I wore a white tank under my gray sweater. I think this scarf will be pretty with a simple tee in the springtime… if spring ever comes! (Sorry, back to that… I warned ya!)

day 4

I wore this dress to church on Sunday. I picked it up at the Tanger Outlets (I was a Tanger Blogger Ambassador, so I bought this with a gift card they provided) last fall on a whim and I have been SO glad to have it. It’s so easy to wear. All it needs is a pair of bold earrings and tights and boots and I’m good to go!

That night I got a last minute opportunity to attend a swanky Oscars party in Philly. I am sad and a bit embarrassed to say that I missed the perfect opportunity to fulfill Item #7 from my 2013 Bucket List … wear a ball gown. Okay, truthfully, I wouldn’t have gone shopping for a ball gown as I didn’t have time and it wasn’t a requirement. But I do have a couple of cocktail dresses that would have been appropriate. But it was a cold, windy night, and even though I’d been told about the dress code, I was sure that I would “see a bit of everything”. I opted for comfort and wore my faithful Ali Ro printed shift. I love this dress and always feel great in it. Unfortunately for this occasion, I felt really out of place in a sea of solid formal gowns. Ah well, live and learn, right??

The photo above is from last week. For this event I changed up my jewelry and clutch, but otherwise it was the same outfit.

day 5

This was a casual day working from home. I opted for comfort with this zip-up cardi, jeans and UGGs. I always feel like an open neckline is flattering. I just wore a simple hand-stamped necklace from Grace Tags and my diamond studs for jewelry.

day 6

And another casual day. This is more of a What NOT to Wear photo. These jeans are too long to wear with flats so the overall look is a bit sloppy. But they are comfy and they were clean so… that’s how it goes sometimes! This was one of our few mild days so I took the opportunity to wear this lightweight striped top, and I ditched the usual boots for ballet flats. Aaaand this outfit could definitely use a necklace.

Savannah will NOT leave me alone when we’re taking pictures. Of course it doesn’t help that I rub her neck and baby talk to her every time she comes around.

So that’s that. It’s not the strongest look to end on, but you can’t nail it every day, right? For more fashion-over-40 inspiration, check out all of my Daily Mom Style posts.

  1. I personally ADORE that blue printed scarf with the striped sweater! Just another reason I love your daily mom style posts because they give me inspiration for my own wardrobe. I’d have never thought about a printed scarf with striped top. LOVE. And I like the brown boots with it too. 🙂

  2. I love your dresses!

I also really like the printed scarf with striped shirt. Looks fabulous!

I wear lighter brown boots with dark jeans and black leggings…never really thought much about it before (I think that’s my problem…lol).

So, today I took one Target dress and wore it 7 ways. I’d love your opinion, because you are WAY better at this than I am. I’m trying though, slowly, but surely.
