Fashion Over 40 | Daily Mom Style

housewife fashion over 40

It’s Wednesday again, and time for another edition of Daily Mom Style, where I chronicle my favorite outfits from the week in an attempt to stay fabulous after 40 and encourage YOU to do the same — whatever age you are!

I’ve had a fun week. I traveled to NYC for a photo shoot with Target, we celebrated the end of summer (and mourned our babysitter going back to college) with a date night, and we spent an evening with friends on the patio and enjoyed some delicious grub. When this posts, if all goes as planned, I’ll be at the beach soaking up some rays and making the most of our last week before school starts. Life is good!

This is what I wore the day I traveled to New York City. I wanted to look somewhat professional but comfortable enough to spend half the day on the train. I wore my red jeans with this black-and-white top from Banana Republic. I wanted to wear these black patent cork-wedge sandals, but I ended up changing at the last minute into my faithful Orthaheels. I was glad I did, as I did a lot of walking, but I didn’t feel nearly as chic as I did in the black wedges. Ah, well. I guess it’s the price I pay to be a runner. I layered a couple of silver necklaces to add some bling. I’m liking the “front tuck” with this top.

How to Wear Red Jeans

I wore this next outfit out to dinner with my husband on Saturday night — white jeans (DL1961 Angel Ankle Skinny in Milk) with my Lucky Brand floral blouse and my tobacco wedge sandals. I went for gold jewelry and my favorite green bag.

This was Sunday. I decided I’d worn enough jeans this week so I opted for a casual dress. I picked up this orange shift at the outlets earlier in the summer, and it has served me well. I’m always cold in church so I finally wised up and brought my jean jacket. The bold gold necklace adds interest to the simple dress, and I thought the blue handbag was a nice contrast against the orange. It also matches my pedicure. It’s the little things!

I actually wore this outfit twice this week. I put it on to go to a neighborhood BBQ and then I threw it on the next day to wear around the house.

I didn’t capture any of my other casual at-home outfits this week. They’re just more of the same. Who’s ready for FALL!???

  1. ME!!! I am so ready for fall because I get to use the most of my wardrobe! I can pair summer faves with fall jackets & sweaters and then I have a lot more options! 🙂

  2. I can’t believe I just heard you say, “Who’s ready for fall?” Aren’t you the girl who adores summer and never wants it to leave? I’m ready for fall every day of the year. I want perpetual fall. But I’m weird that way 🙂 I’m already burning down my cider candle and baking pumpkin bread.

    1. LOL, I know, right? I’m not really ready for fall, but I always look forward to a change of seasons because it livens up Daily Mom Style for a bit. 🙂 It all gets to feel awfully repetitive after a few months of the same basic outfits.

  3. I have that dress from BR in green and never thought to wear my jean jacket with it. Looks cute! Thanks for the great idea:)

      1. Yah I’m no real comfortable with it either. I think it looks kind of weird from the sides and back, but I do like it from the front. It depends on the material of the shirt. It worked better with the blouse than with the cotton tee.

  4. Such cute outfits! I love this color too. You styled each option with skill and grace. I especially like the dress with the your jacket. Pretty hair.

  5. I am ready for fall! I just love layering things and the summer is usually too hot for that.
Those red pants look awesome BTW, you look so slim.

  6. I bought the Orthaheels that are similar to yours (I went with the brass color instead of silver…I’m on a bit of a gold kick right now), and they are like a miracle for my heel spur. The podiatrist tried to get me to invest in some VERY pricey orthotics, and I’m convinced they wouldn’t have done a better job than these shoes. I just ordered the slippers (otherwise, I’m wearing the sandals with my pajamas…they make that big of a difference), and a pair of boots for fall. They’re running a promotion on the Orthaheel site this weekend…if you buy a full-priced item (the slippers, in my case), you get half off the sale item (boots). That being said, I scored my boots for only $30!
